My 13 year old son, who is a basketball player, was diagnosed with an acute stress injury in his left tibia. Colleen and team were able to squeeze him in and start seeing him regularly within a week of being diagnosed. Colleen is a great PT, very attentive and flexible in her treatment. The staff is super friendly also. In addition to exercises (which are typical for other PT I had attended in the past) the treatments include a deep tissue massage, an electric stimulation and an ultrasound therapy that I believe stimulate the healing. I attended Bodies In Motion PT two year ago for a shoulder problem and a different PT completely fixed it, I exercise regularly and never have any shoulder problems since. This place is unique in a few dimensions: 1) hands on body work is a big component of the rehab therapy here and they are VERY good at that. 2) they genuinely care about getting you, a human being, back on your feet and into your regular life. You are not just a patient that goes in and out as a business transaction. 3) the entire staff is wonderful from the PT assistants to the PTs to the front office. I went in because I was getting daily migraines from poor posture. Through her thoughtful treatment plan, Colleen gave me hope immediately. Place is more than a little raggedy. Not enough staff. There's only one PT person most of the time and she's great as well as totally overwhelmed. The staff is nice enough, but they aren't able to give you their full attention. I know the difference because I've don't PT before in San Francisco. Vastly different experience also the location is hard to find if you kind of don't already know where you're going. Their billing is also, pretty AWFULE. I still have not been charged a co-pay. I've mentioned it to the person at the check-in more than once. I'm afraid of what they might be sending to my insurance. They can't bill to an existing auto medical insurance claim. For me that was the final nail in the coffin. The reason I chose them at all is because they are close to my house and had capacity to add me as a new patient. There's definitely a reason that Bodies in Motion had space for me. read more

When I started at Bodies in Motion, the pain in my knee was so bad that I was barely walking, icing multiple times a day, wearing Rock Tape and knee braces. I remember I helped my mom through knee surgery and watching her recover to more mobility and stamina (and less pain) than I had. I was trying to strengthen my knee and improve my alignment with the help of a friend who is a Pilates instructor but, though I was getting stronger, eventually had to admit it wasn't working. I just kept re-injuring my knee. Finally I took myself to a Sports Medicine Doctor who recommended PT, and I found Colleen based on lots of positive reviews. (Next time I'll go straight to Colleen.) Colleen was able to quickly and correctly diagnose the issue and gave me exercises that I could do with a straight leg that strengthened the muscles around the knee without re-aggravating the knee. She also assigned me the anti-grav treadmill so that could re-learn how to walk with better mechanics than what i'd fallen into. The aides helped with a Tens machine and ultrasound to help (if i understand correctly) break up the blockages that were impeding healing. The combination was nothing short of miraculous. I'm walking, even sometimes jogging, now and am entirely pain-free. My knee no longer goes out, and I'm stronger in other parts of my body as well. I'm so so so grateful to Colleen and her team for regaining the ability to hike with my family. Note: The visits are not quick. Especially as my exercises increased, I was attending for 2 hours each time. Often there is a wait for the physical therapist (which I choose to spend doing the assigned exercises). But the time investment directly translates into healing and regained function, so it's well worth it. Just bring the right expectations when you go! read more

I waited three weeks for my first appointment at Bodies in Motion due to lack of earlier appointments. I had a 3:30PM appointment and showed up at 3:25 with my paperwork and co-payment in hand (they only take cash or check which is very old-school and a bit frustrating). I was scheduled to see Mohamed ("Mo") for a one-hour session, and was told he was running behind schedule. I will note that I did bring kids with me and I had been pleasantly surprised when they said I could bring them (or else I would have had to arrange for childcare). My girls squeezed into one of the two chairs in the tiny waiting area and sat quietly reading. After several minutes, my back pain started becoming unbearable (the reason why I was at PT), so I sat outside the front door, on the ground, with my back against the wall because they had no more chairs and I couldn't stand any longer. At 4:05, an assistant said he'd take me back into a room. I asked him how long it would take to see Mo, and he didn't know. I told him that I could not just wait there indefinitely, so he spoke with Mo who apparently told him he could do a "quick" 15-minute session with me so I'd be done by 4:30 as promised. I didn't want to pay for a full session just to have him rush through our appointment because he was running late - that's nuts! Not to mention, Mo didn't even have the decency to speak to me in person and apologize for his actions. I left the office FORTY minutes after my scheduled time, cancelled my other appointments, and will now start from scratch to find another physical therapist. Thanks for nothing, Mo. read more

Colleen, Alex and entire PT team are the best. I broke my humerus bone in a cycling fall and a month in was starting to get a stiff shoulder. They were quick to fit me into their busy schedule and the team has been absolutely instrumental is me getting back range of motion on my shoulder. The entire team is attentive to your needs, and in general extremely accommodating to work around my schedule (special shout-out to Robin for her scheduling magic :)). Great service in a very friendly environment. The office is a bit run down and cramped, but they seem to have all the equipment they need, including a high-tech anti-gravity treadmill. They are also contracted with several of the large health insurance providers, so billing is easy. The biggest frustration is that there is no way to schedule appointments online. read more

The consultation done by Colleen for my daughter's knee issue was extremely thorough and the 8 week intensive twice weekly visit had her back on her feet playing soccer. The office has several aides that help with ultra sound and the application of the pads for the tens machine, both of these devices were not offered at the previous PT. Colleen's manipulations and the solid knowledge of how bodies work are part of why what she does works so well. Although the overall office is small, there are 3 consulting rooms and an additional table in the open area. The equipment available is in good condition and although there may be several people working out at once, most people share the space well and politely. Communication from the aides with children/teenagers is great. They could improve this for adults, especially checking in on them whilst doing exercises to ensure correct posture and making adjustments as necessary. Also sometimes adults do require additional attention to ensure completion of given exercises. I comment specifically on this as most people go to PT to get better and may have to be out of their comfort zone, sometimes hurting will mean improvement down the line which is often missed in the throws of that 10th push up!! Which if aides were more attentive to more progress might be made in a shorter time period. I have also had the pleasure of using Colleen myself for my shoulder and neck issue. Very pleased that I have made good progress. Having had surgery earlier in the year whilst I had made progress and had a good range of motion with my previous PT, Colleen understood that I wanted to get back to actually using my shoulder in my sporting activities and as close to 100%. Not just average use. I have some scar tissue build up that she is working the kinks out of to get me there! Overall, Bodies in Motion is highly recommended for both children and adults. read more

I sprained my ankle badly. Colleen and team did an excellent job of helping me recover full range of motion and stability in my ankle as well as resolving the residual pain I was experiencing. This visits are not quick as you come in do your exercises, then see the PT for assessment and massage and then receive ultrasound/stim/etc. But you are getting 1) supervision and support on your exercises, 2) personal attention and treatment from the PT herself every time you come in and 3) the full range of therapeutic modalities that can benefit your condition.... a very worthy investment in your physical health IMHO. read more

I have been a patient of Bodies in Motion for over a year now. It was recommended by a specialist Dr, who thought that I needed no X-ray or medications, just a good PT. After a few months of weekly treatments the strain in my neck nearly went away. It came back last summer, and after few more months of weekly appointments improved again, dramatically. Colleen, the owner, really understands the body and is highly skilled in her craft. Aside from sessions of deep, and yes, often painful, deep massages, she had recommended daily exercises that have strengthen my back and neck and have had great results. Selena and her team are great. I came here because my bunion surgery 3 months ago which prevents me walk normally. With 3-time therapies, Selena helps me walk normally again (with my entire foot - not on the side of the foot due to the pain on my surgery area). Bodies in Motion Physical Therapy is an excellent place to go for therapy. I tried them because they were on my doctor's list of places he recommended to get physical therapy, and luckily they had some openings, as I needed to get started with a therapy program as soon as possible. Everyone who works there is very professional, very nice, and knows exactly what they can do to help you recover from any injury you might have. They design a program of exercises you can do at home, and make sure you understand how to do these exercises correctly. I highly recommend them. read more

Unfortunately I would not recommend Bodies in Motion. First of all I was lied to by the office manager Mike. I asked him to check if my insurance would be accepted. He guaranteed me it would be and said he had checked with my insurance. After attending several sessions, he called and said my insurance wasn't approved. I was left paying more than $500 out of pocket. (That's 4 days of my substitute teacher pay). What saddened me the most is that Colleen did not even apologize for her employers lie. The second reason is that Colleen overbooks and I often had to wait 30 minutes for my appointment. Not OK. read more

I have been going to Bodies in Motion off and on for the past two years, and have had Kate as my pt. I totally disagree with Harriet's comments about her abilities and her professionalism.. She did wonders for me after my neck surgery, and in fact was the one who figured out that something was going on with my shoulder (turned out to be a torn rotator cuff). After I developed a frozen shoulder from the surgery on my shoulder- I didn't hesitate to go back to her. My shoulder is almost healed now and I give Kate a ton of credit for helping me. She outlined from day one what our objectives would be, and what needed to happen to get there. Colleen has been helping my shoulder get its range of motion back. I had rotator cuff surgery about 3 weeks ago and I'm surprised at my progress after each visit. She's also knowledgeable and answers any questions I have, even regarding other health issues. What I really like is that she can modify the exercises specific for me (I have issues/pain on the other shoulder sometimes!) and her manual/massage work on my shoulder is very painful but I'm glad she doesn't "take it easy on me" because the pain is necessary in order to make progress in recovery. The staff is also very friendly. I've been to other PT facilities, and this is the only place that actually requests documents/reports from my doc in order to give me accurate treatment. I think that's a smart way to approach it instead of solely relying on discussions with the patient (which is not always accurate). read more

I am writing this review because Colleen has saved me from three operations. 1. A shoulder that was dislocated. 2. A knee I thought was damaged and had to be operated on. 3. She new the difference between a arm pain and cardiac issue. My cardiac doctor is Dominic Curatola. He is known as one of the number one heart doctors in the bay area. When I dislocated my shoulder, he suggested I see Colleen. I did and she found more than my shoulder issue. My body was out of line and she fixed problems that have been with me for years. I had arm pain and she suggested I see Dr. C. A few days later I had a small operation on my heart. Thanks Colleen. You saved my life. The knee, I blew it out skiing. I'm Francis, studying to be a priest for the Diocese of San Jose in California. I sprained my ankle on February 1, 2016 while I was playing scrimmage basketball in preparation for our big game on Feb. 19th vs the priests. I was trying to defend my man as he was driving to the basket. I jumped to block his shot and after that my left foot landed awkwardly which caused my ankle to roll. My ankle blew up and was the size of a golf ball. I got an x-ray and there was no break or fracture. I followed the R.I.C.E guideline which resulted to reduce swelling. But after two weeks, my ankle was still in pain and not ready for basketball. I felt frustrated because our game only happens once a year and I really wanted to play. Five days before the big game, I decided to call Bodies in Motion to schedule an appointment with Coleen O'Kane. After the three sessions doing exercises, using muscle stimulator and taping for stabilization, things dramatically improved. My ankle felt so much better and ready for the game. During the warm up, my coach notice how ready I was running back and forth the court. He decided to put me in the starting line up and did my very best to contribute to the team. After four periods and double overtime, our team (Seminarians) won the game by just three points. It was a fun game! I give a lot of credit to God for the gift of healing and Coleen of Bodies & Motion for the the job well done.
