Stuck off the beaten path, near Smithville this restaurant offer great atmosphere in a renovated barn (hence the name). The salad bar is immense and always well stocked. Some is the hot buffet. Food was as good as any Amish food we have had anywhere. Plenty of choice with a great salad bar with lots of options. The waitress we had was prompt and friendly and courteous. She has been working there since the restaurant was first opened so we were able to find out about the history of the restaurant. It is a barn but is is clean and decorated nicely. Our table had a great view over looking the lake and all the gazebo and wildlife on the lake. A beautiful view. We will definitely be going back to try their evening buffet. read more

Took my mother-in-law and wife for a first time visit. Sorry to say the experience was less than stellar. First, I had made a reservation for seating prior to our lunch visit. When we arrived I was told our reservation was not listed. Reminds me of the Jerry Seinfeld skit of, "you know how to take the reservation, but you don't know how to keep the reservation". We were seated fairly promptly but now in the requested location with a view. The overall ambiance of the restaurant and facility is very nice. The host and waitresses were friendly. The table settings are nice and comfortable and in general everything was clean. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and salad and my guests had quiche and salad. The Reuben although tasty was a bit disappointing in structure. The bread to meat ratio was not good. More bread than meat and not worth the price. The salad was ok. My wife was pulling out old leaves and setting the aside. I was charged for bacon on my salad which I didn't order and had corrected on the bill. The quiche was noted as good but under baked. Also the value for portion was poor. A very small slice for the price. Overall, an ok visit but not what I would consider "gourmet" as advertised. Maybe gourmet for the area but certainly not in the rankings of high end restaurants. Not sure of the local hype behind this place. Maybe the ambience ranks them high or people here don't get out beyond their borders. I'm not saying it's bad food, it's ok, but for me I think there is better food in the area for better value. read more

Pine Tree Barn is a really special place. First of all, the food is amazing. Great for lunch. Absolutely exceptional place for an extraordinary lunch. I had the steak salad, which featured grilled peaches, bleu cheese, and perfectly medium steak. Throw on their famous lemon muffins and you've got a lunch that can't be rivaled. The staff is so accommodating. Lori helped us to coordinate a team retreat for my workplace and offered us our own private room. It was perfect for our midyear retreat planning! Sara was very attentive to what we needed, and took wonderful care of us while being really respectful of our programming. The location is stunning, (I won't try to articulate. This is one of my favorite places to eat. The staff is always so lovely and the food is always amazing. The onion soup, variety of quiches and pies are my favorite. While your waiting for your food or after your meal you can shop on the several floors of wonderful goods to purchase. I'm not one for fruit pie but their blackberry sour cream pie is A-mazing. We've been eating at PTB for 25 years. We have furnished our home with their furniture as well. Really disappointed today when we sat for 15-20 minutes in the heat on the patio without a waitress even "acknowledging us" sitting there. We asked the hostess if we could sit in another area with a better waitress. She apologized profusely and seated us inside, where we were also ignored. We left. So disappointing. We will never go there again. To be treated so poorly after being good patrons for years... It's sad. read more

PLEASE at lease remove the railroad tie & blacktop a path to outside downstairs door to bathroom. I struggled to push my sisters wheel chair. Finally a nice employee came to my rescue. My husband and I went there on a Monday for lunch. We had to wait over 20 mins to be seated. Then the waitress was extremely slow in getting our orders and drinks. We assumed she completely forgot about us. I ordered the crepes with curry chicken and my husband got the flat bread pizza. The crepe had no flavor and was not impressive. The flat bread pizza was a frozen pizza that they threw a few extra veggies onto and called it a special. We were extremely unimpressed. We won't be back. read more

This place is one of a kind. Their 3 floors of furniture, gifts, toys, Christmas trees and decor, clothes, and much more, are so unique and fun to browse through! Everything is high class and made well. The restaurant is delicious. Get their French onion soup, you will not be disappointed. It has amazing flavors and just the right amount of cheese. If they have a flavored tea for the day, try that as well. I'm always happy when they have the mint or lemon ones. They're so good. Service is always friendly and the place is always busy, so call ahead and make reservations. Their patio is beautiful as well. It overlooks a gorgeous lake and trees that they sell during Christmas time (you cut down yourself). Also try the lemon crumb muffins. To die for! Take some home too, you will want more!! They always have features of the day, a different quiche, another soup choice, and usually a pasta. Everything is always fresh tasting and delicious. It's such a cute building and atmosphere and place. It's Worth driving to also. My husband isn't the biggest fan, because I think it's more of a "tea room" kind of vibe So I'd say, it's a great place to take your sister, mom, or grandma. What an utter delight! A dear friend has raves about The Pine Tree Barn Restaurant for the longest time, so I seized the chance to take my daughter-in-law and her aunt with us when we went for her birthday. The whole place is enchanting, from the outside in! The server was very pleasant and the service was excellent. We had the quiche with ham and chives, the crepes of the day, asparagus soup and French onion soup, all of which were wonderful. We added a bottle of the Wooster Red Wine and all pronounced it a worthy excuse to drink in the afternoon. When we were done, we wandered about the shops in house and managed to fall in love with several unique items. It was nearly an hour's drive through beautiful countryside to get to Pine Tree Farm and this charming restaurant, and it's worth every second. We make a special trip to the Pine Tree Barn once or twice a year. We always enjoy our meal -- the food (and wine and dessert) is great... there's a spectacular view of the countryside... and then we love browsing the shop. Our favorite time to go is in early November when there's usually still some fall foliage to be seen out the bay windows and all their Christmas merchandise is out! But we just went today because we were in the mood for a short road-trip and we wanted to see the shop during the non-Christmas season. We enjoyed some sandwiches for lunch and the french onion soup -- the Troutman's Farmer's Red wine was sweet and delicious -- and then we browsed the shop! Pine tree barn is to country crafts and furnishing as Times Square s to flashy lights and busy people. Seriously, there is not one extra square molecule of space in this place. But it's all pretty attractive tasteful stuff. The food is good too, just not good for you. So tread lightly, or plan to go on a "cheat day" if you're on a diet. read more

I hate to be the one who drops the rating on this place, but I just don't see it. The black bean soup was alright, but was just missing that kick. The sandwich I had was good, but nothing special. My girlfriend ordered the "tomato and basil" pizza. Being a vegetarian, this worked out great. When the pizza came, it looked delicious, but it contained ham. Why would you leave this ingredient out of the pizza description? That's just crazy. The pizzas are pre-made, so no pizza for you, veggie. The staff was friendly and did end up accommodating us, but it's as if they never had met a vegetarian (despite our waitress being one). read more

Fitz and Floyd make beautiful nativities (hint, hint). Years ago, they had angels much like the Metropolitan Museum of Art's angels (see the book, "The Angel Tree"), I wish they still carried them there. I'll include a picture. Mmmm! The Pine Tree Barn is one of my all time favorite places to eat. They have lots of great little gems on their menu: lemon muffins, French onion soup, fresh garden salad with bean sprouts, and their quiche is ALWAYS delicious! They have a great raspberry tea that my mom loves, and a chai tea (hot OR cold; both great!) that I always order. Delicious meal of French onion soup and the Johnny Apple Salad. Loved the soup, it really was some of the best I've ever had. The salad had ham, cheese, apples, cranberries and a few other things - not an item I'd usually select but a friend said it was amazing and she was right. We are local, but had never eaten here before. We were pleasantly surprised and will be back again. The view and the deck would be wonderful in better weather. The food was very good and they have good kids meals for $5! They have a wine list that is very limited. We did not partake. Just recently took a friend there for lunch. It had been several months since I was last there and I noticed portion size had changed and prices up somewhat from before. I ordered the chicken salad and fruit and it came on a small plate with a scoop of chicken salad and some fruit around it. (not much) I did not have any chicken in the chicken salad and it tasted like I was eating a dessert with cool whip. Too sweet. After saying something the waitress brought me more with chicken in it. A Very Pleasant Outing ! We had lunch there - I had the Chicken Salad Fruit Plate with a Lemon Crumb Muffin. ( one of their specialties/trademarks.) My friends had the quiche of the day accompanied by the Spinach Salad and Hot Bacon dressing. They also had lemon crumb muffins. We all enjoyed the meal. The crepe of the day was also tempting. The menu also featured some unique items. Definitely something for everyone. There is a wonderful view overlooking the ponds. We opted to dine indoors, due to rainy weather - it is a covered deck, but the rain wasn't inviting to eat outdoors. I also had a slice of Sour Cream Peach Pie - it was delicious ! You can even purchase muffins to take home, and they also have candles with their Lemon Muffin Scent !! They are only open for lunch, and reservations are recommended. We browsed all three levels of the store/gift shop. The gift shop is open until 5pm. Staff both in restaurant and also in shop were pleasant, polite and helpful. Do not go unless you can easily take a flight of stairs to use the bathroom. They have "handicapped parking and a wheelchair ramp, but no accessible bathroom!!!! I took my Mom and asked and the only available bathroom was in the basement. The food was good. Visiting my parents and had a rainy day, so we decided to explore Pine Tree Barn. We had the option of sitting inside or on the covered deck overlooking two ponds. We were given a nice table by the window and had a great view of the ponds and hills surrounding the restaurant. The food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. The service was spot on, helpful but not intrusive. We ordered a chicken sandwich on ciabatta roll, as well as two specially quiches. They serve wine and beer with local selections of both. I look forward to a return trip to explore the wide selection of Amish furniture and home decorations. Definitely worth the trip. read more

This place has some great gems like their lemon muffins and their steak panini sandwich with spinach and feta. What is disappointing is that their portion sizes have shrunk with rising food prices. They also have extremely slow service. Plan on having time set aside for a very long lunch. Oh that reminds me, they don't have dinner service, so don't plan to eat dinner there. The portion sizes are ridiculous for the prices. The steak panini sandwich is delicious, but it's the size of an audio cassette tape--5 bites and it's gone. It comes with a small cup of soup and costs almost $10. For me, that's a bit pricey for a lunch. I ordered some chicken, curry and rice soup. It was very disappointing. It tasted homemade, but not in the good homemade kind of way. It was just bland and boring. If you haven't been there, you need to go one time to see all of the cool things, at the store.
