I want to start with our server, Natalie, was fantastic. Very sweet and attentive. The food is just lacking. We started with the Pot Stickers. They were so tiny for $16. Hardly any filling. I got the Oriental Almond Chicken. It was very bland. The "sauce" was very soupy. Veggies were overcooked. And there were like three soggy almonds in the dish. Also a pretty small portion for the price. My fiancé got the Louisiana Shrimp Pasta. Again, small portions for the price. Shrimp was not great quality and way over cooked. The "sauce" was so runny with no flavor. Finally we hoped for redemption with dessert but were disappointed again. Bananas Foster is such a classic that shouldn't be hard to get right. Ordered this pizza for lunch, which was pretty pricey. Honestly, the food cost on this thing must've been like three dollars at best. It was a 12 inch type sized pizza with not much to it and I didn't think the taste was unbelievably different or special. Looked like they use sandwich pepperoni, which is just kind ok believe it. I enjoyed one of the daily specials. It was a polenta and shrimp dish with a delicious spicy sauce. I also enjoyed a cocktail and the potstickers. The potstickers were ok, nothing special. What really sets this restaurant apart is the service. Kaitlin was our server and she was so gracious and helpful in selecting entrees. We also met her twin sister who works there as well. They are both sweet and kind. We enjoyed being able to communicate in ASL with them. The ambiance is a bit rustic meets artsy meets cabin. It's kind of loud so if you're looking for a quiet spot, this isn't it. But the food is very good. They serve food and drinks on creative tableware and glasses. But it was odd that the flatware was the cheapest kind you can get. All that said, this is a nice dining spot in Wooster if you're in town. read more

First time in Wooster and decided to head to another restaurant and then spotted Broken Rocks. So we had to stop a check it out. They have a wonderful drink menu that includes cocktails, wines and beer. For starters we ordered cocktails. I had the "Hey Mama" then Bells IPA. Made in Michigan. Gulp! For dinner I ordered the shrimp and artichoke fettuccine. Amazing!! The place does fill up face so I'm not sure if they accept reservations. We were to full for desert but they had a great selection. Really cute and open place, great for small groups and kids. The staff was welcoming, clean, and restrooms had a changing table. We got there at lunch on a Saturday so a little slow but just gave more time to catch up and understandable given the time. Kids butter noodles were a success however peanut butter and jelly was a pass. It's fancy bread and no 4 year old wants to go near that so we shared butter noodles. But the pizza, salad, jambalaya and pasta were great and loved the portions. Just enough! We will be back! read more

The tomato soup was delicious. The strawberry spinach salad left a lot to be desired. The spinach tasted old. I don't think that there was even a whole strawberry on it. So, now I know. We ate here early in the year and had a great experience. So we decided to come back last weekend and we were greatly disappointed. Our server, Chris, was not personable at all. We waited almost a half hour before he would come get our order. We even caught him once and said we were ready to order and he said....well I have to get another table first. We arrived at 7pm and left at 8:50 because we were supposed to be somewhere at 9. I ordered the flank steak and did not even get to eat because it came out at 8:40. Everyone else in our party received their meals about 10 minutes prior to mine. So I just had to get a "to-go" box to take my meal home. The food was delicious but our service and wait time were unacceptable. After waiting from 7pm to 8:40 to get my food, there was no mention of comping anything or quite honestly, even an apology. He seemed irritated that I asked for a box because I didn't have time to eat it now. I am sure we will come back and just chalked it up to bad service. Brocken Rocks is one of the best local restaurants Wooster has. They have wonderful staff, and excellent food. Many options and all are delicious, high quality meals. The inside is a little bit loud/echoey but there is plenty of room and it's a great spot. read more

Ambiance and service are lovely. I was very excited to try this chef forward menu. The actual building and Rox bar next door have a fun cool vibe. We started with homemade pot stickers, which were excellent. We then had a nice parmesean salad. Not great. Dressing was runny and flavorless. Next was a brie with apples, grapes, and smoked almonds. The brie was oily and definitely not a double creme. It tasted cheap. I ate a few bites and gave up as it wasn't very good. The bread that is baked in house was also featured on the borad. My husband ordered the Cajun shrimp pasta that he really liked. I found it to be strongly fishy tasting. The bite of the sauce was nice however it was very runny. We both enjoyed the peach shortcake. Excellent! Crispy homemade shortbread with exquisite peaches and fresh cream fraiche. I'm torn as they are on the right track but should consider the ingredients they are utilizing. read more

I was in Wooster for an event and found myself with an extra half hour. I stopped in to this place , thinking to get a coffee and a baked item. On the sidewalk was a chalkboard advertising the days special soup, which was tomato basil. Once I was seated and looked at the menu, I also spotted a beet salad that sounded fabulous. I told my server my dilemma, and she pointed out that I could order a cup of soup and a small salad. It came with a few slices of sourdough bread and olive oil for dipping. It was perfect, and really hit the spot, and besides was healthier than my half-baked plan. The interior of the restaurant was very modern yet vintage, with exposed brick and a beautiful molding around the ceiling. The art on the walls was bright, although a little bit mass-produced for my taste, but the overall effect was warm, inviting and pleasant. Once again, we made another stop at Broken Rocks. This has become our #1 place for food and as always, never leaves us disappointed. The staff were friendly and our waitress made sure we enjoyed our meal and wasn't overbearing in checking on us. Even the staff who didn't wait on us were nice and polite and spoke to us as we were walking out. Environment is very relaxing and has a "go with the flow" feel. We were able to enjoy our conversation without feeling like we were shouting at each other. And these photos don't even do the food justice. Just had my daughter's baby shower here and it was so nice. Everything from planning to boxing leftover cake was effortless. Sierra, their event planner, is the best! She helped me put together a limited menu, made beautiful customized menus and answered my numerous questions patiently. I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot our server's name but she was fantastic. She suggested peach mint lemonade so the mom to be could have a fancy drink, checked in just enough without hovering and cut up the vast amount of leftover cake we had. The Backroom was a nice place for a small shower. It was big enough for 15 people plus 2 gift tables and a cake table. So, every time I come to town I have to come here and get my fish sandwich fix. I've ordered other dishes before and they have always been delicious but some reason the fish sandwich is the thing to get. Being from California we can get some good seafood so me ordering fish it must be good. It comes with big old potato wedges which are ok. The service is always exceptional. This is a cool looking little place in downtown Wooster. Danielle and I had lunch w/ my mom and stepdad last Saturday. Staff and service was good. Food was fine. However, it would seem they don't have a fryer in the kitchen as my stepdad's fish was pan fried - which he felt didn't work on a sandwich. he and I also got "jo-jo fries" which weren't fried but were overbaked to the point they were very difficult to chew through. I think Danielle had them, too. Also, jo-jo fries are traditionally batter dipped and these weren't - steak fries would be a more accurate name. Danielle had a veggie burger and said it was fine. I had a Kefta burger. The burger patty, itself, was good. it was served on ciabatta. I don't really like ciabotta and I felt it was too dense and took away from the flavor of the sandwich. Fantastic eatery!! The service is excellent, the food is absolutely delicious, and the ambiance is hip, modern, and inviting. I'm surprised it exists in a small town like Wooster, but especially pleased because it can hard being vegan in the middle of nowhere! But, you can be a vegan and eat quite well here. Their hummus plate is incredible, and the house-made veggie burger is so SO good! I had a peach salad (in a side salad portion size) and I only wish I'd bought the full size (also, if had a bigger stomach, that would also help ). After a few years, I believe broken rocks is one of my husband and I's too favorite restaurants. My favorite to this day is still the smoked turkey sandwich. Their potato salad is to die for. We usually get a pint of it to go when we dine in. We just love it so much. My husband changes his dinners up often. The last few times we've been in we've had great service and great wait staff. I appreciate the change is service as before it seemed to lack, but now we are never dissatisfied when we leave. Always happy with full bellies! Thanks broken rocks! read more

Pleasantly surprised by this posh little restaurant. Excellent wine selection! You don't see Gewürztraminer on the menu in many places. I went for the polenta-shrimp special and it was amazing: crispy polenta...spicy shrimp...yum. The hubs got the gumbo...or was it jambalaya? I always get those mixed up.....and said it was very good, but liked my polenta dish better. Pecan pie was OKAY...They should use halved pecans instead of chopped...and there could have been more nuts and less goo. Overall, I'd definitely go back and get something else. We almost missed this place, we were looking for a lunch spot and figured this was just a bakery with lite choices... wow we're we wrong! This place was delicious. They have great drink choices, we opted for craft beers. The bread and olive oil was so delicious. They also have their breads on display that you can purchase. We ordered the jambalaya and Blue BBQ burger. Hands down, this was the beat cheese burger that I can ever remember having before. We were just driving around after leaving our hotel in Orrville and Larry decided to drive to Wooster as we had spent the previous day in Amish county. We decided it was time for an early dinner and stopped at the Broken Rocks Cafe. I had the Chicken Marsala Pasta. It was good but not what I was expecting, though to be fair it was as described. Larry chose the Roast Beef sandwich with potato salad. He really liked the potato salad. The bread on his sandwich was rather tough. It hard to bite off and chew. Considering it is a bakery it was pretty disappointing. We decided to have dessert which we often decline. He had the suggested Belgian Chocolate Custard and loved it. I was also disappointed with my dessert of Bananas Foster. Usually one of my favorites and not often served in restaurants. Usually it is served flambé and because the menu said bourbon flambéed bananas I expected it to be served that way. I would have been okay with that except there was just a strong bourbon taste like it wasn't burnt off. It was served with chocolate shortcake that was pretty dry. So overall we weren't thrilled with our food the service was excellent and the staff we encountered we very friendly. read more
