Husband got the signature biscuit that I forgot the name of, and it was huge but he ate it happily. The little ones enjoyed a biscuit with apple butter and honey butter and they were each pleased. The place is very small inside and not really good for my little ones but we ate outside on the front bench which worked out pretty good for my family. If I lived here, I'd be a regular. We ordered a Reggie box to make at home. The food I give 5 stars, the service I give 2. We called ahead to order a Reggie box for pickup. We were told it would be about 1.5 hours until it was ready. We show up right on time, and my husband calls and says he is out front in the car and wasn't sure what to do (because of COVID19). The person on the phone says wait outside and I'll bring it right out to you. 15 mins goes by and my poor husband is standing out there in 80 degree heat politely waiting. He says all the cooks are inside and can see him standing there outside, so he figures they must still be working. He was being patient as he said he has told them twice on the phone previously that he was here and didn't want to be rude or rush them. Finally he decided to call back and remind them he has been waiting outside, as instructed, for 20 min. The person on the phone says "oh we didn't know you were here." They bring the food out immediately and just hand it to him - no apologies for the confusion or explanation as to why he was standing out there in plain view of the employees. My husband says the person who handed him the box was very curt and dismissive. We thought that was extremely rude. I think the employee forgot and tried to play it off. A simple apology would've been sufficient. Anyway, once we got the box home it was very easy to prepare the sandwiches. They give you instructions and a an aluminum tin to heat the chicken in the oven. The instructions were very clear and it was super easy to make. We thought it was nice because we could have hot and fresh food rather than takeout that has been prepared 30+ minutes ago. The other pine state biscuit locations are by far superior. The seating is very horrible and awkward at this location. It's like they want to put less and less seating every time they open up a new location even though they know it's going to be busy. The longest skinniest tables, it was comparable to eating off of a snowboard. They only had 3 long skinny tables to choose from and only one of the tables was made so you can face the people you came with. I couldn't fit my entire meal on the table and I had to have strangers lingering around staring at me while they waited for a seat to open up. There is no where for them to wait, so they just flooded the dining area and looked unpleasant. I felt uncomfortable because I was saving a spot for my girlfriend that was on her way, that I already ordered for, and every 3 minutes I had to upset families by telling them they couldn't take my chair. I shouldn't have to feel that uncomfortable in an establishment. I wouldn't recommend any group of people eat here. They didn't have chocolate milk, they said it's not available at this location, probably because most people know to order to go and don't get beverages. That's fine, I'll just have water. Then they told me they didn't have the cinnamon roll that was advertised at the counter on display that they told me they had been out of for a few hours... So then take it out of your display, right? Now let's get to the good stuff. The food was great just like all the other locations and they had the friendliest female worker that was going around and talking to all the tables and helping confused people order and maneuver in the cramped seating area. She also talked up some desserts for me and convinced me to come back to try the cinnamon roll. I really love pine state biscuits and wanted to enjoy this location. They will be opening a sizzle pie next door and it looks like they will be combining the two locations into one building, so maybe later this summer I will try it again once they have a bigger less cramped space. read more

Fiona and I looked at the yelp reviews, being are first stay in Portland, looked good, was a short walk from our hotel. What a great little place, biscuits are amazing and fresh, I had the eggs and sausage in my biscuit with a fried green tomato on the side, the sausage is. Add in house and tasted amazing, sweet note with a nice spicy kick at the end, eggs cooked well, and the fried tomato was fantastic. Fiona had the Mcisley it was amazing, honey mustard sauce, pickles, fried chicken and a wheat biscuit, all worked well great combination of flavours. The coffee is also very good, get here early the full up fast and there was a line to the door for take outs. read more

Had to check this place out since we are from Texas and hold our opinion of biscuits and gravy very high. Pine State did not disappoint! The Reggie is a must! Perfect blend of flavors with not too much going on. I also got some biscuits with Marionberry jam which was the JAM! It was so delicious on top of that fluffy butter biscuit! Something is happening at this PSB location. I ordered the Chatfield, quickly used the restroom...2 minutes maybe, and when I got back out and sat down...the sandwich was immediately delivered to me...that's quick...too quick. The fried chicken was lukewarm at best...and dry...because it had been precooked and sitting somewhere... I brought my food back up after one bite and requested a freshly fried chicken sandwich. Get your house in order PSB, you aren't some fast food joint with precooked patties. I'll probably be back, but just know this, for every 1 person, like myself, that brings your lukewarm chicken sandwich back, there are 20 timid people who can't muster up the courage to stand up for a sandwich, that's been sitting around, that is unsatisfactory. I got the McIsley because it sounded like the closest thing to a Chic-fil-a chicken biscuit sandwich (the only flavor combo I could wrap my head around). It was fried chicken, pickles, honey and Dijon mustard on a biscuit. I got it to-go, and because it was so big, I didn't actually eat it like a sandwich but piece by piece. Either way, it was good. The reggie deluxe is to die for!!! The chicken is juicy and perfectly fried, the bacon adds an extra layer of goodness, and the biscuit was soft and dense. However, the gravy is what MADE this sandwich. You can tell that there is sausage and sausage grease in this gravy. It actually tastes more like sausage and less like flour. It was amazing! This sandwich is filling though so be prepared! If you cant eat it all they do have to-go boxes readily available for left overs. The place is small and seating is VERY limited. Southern Comfort Food. I headed over to Pine State Biscuits around 7:45 am on a rainy Sunday morning. There were two other diners there when I arrive. While a steady stream of people came in, about half of them placed their orders to go. The place was only 1/3 full when I left. There were way too many tempting options for me and I could have easily ordered any item on their menu. I decided to go with an order of shrimp and grits, a biscuit with honey and butter and a cup of Stumptown coffee (one of my favorites!). The shrimp and grits were delicious. The shrimp were tender and cooked with a sauce made of bacon, mushroom, garlic and green onions. The grits were fluffy, soft and buttery. The dish was boldly seasoned; the squirt of fresh lemon juice really brightened up the flavors of this dish. The only other time I have enjoyed shrimp and grits this much was at a restaurant in Greenville, SC. The biscuit, which I ate a couple of hours later, lived up to the hype. It was light, flaky and possessed a tender crumb. The biscuit was perfection. It was big, but not so big it should be shared. I split the biscuit and slathered some whipped butter and honey on each half after trying it on its own. Oh my. This was one of best biscuits I've ever had! As tempted as I was to try one of breakfast sandwiches or to have in covered in gravy, I wanted to try the biscuit on its own, without it being smothered or overwhelmed by something that could hide its true flavor or characteristics. I sat in a spot with a direct view into their kitchen to see how their biscuit sandwiches were being made (geek moment for me as I enjoy views of kitchen operations). Aside from the great music, it was relatively quiet while I was there. People from all walks of life came in to fill their bellies. For dining in, this place is best for small groups and individuals. There is only one small table inside for two people, with some tables outside. All other seats are counter-style seating with stools. Stumbled into Pine State Biscuits, half awake after a night shift and couldn't be happier. This is southern comfort food , no-nonsense with lush rich flavors. As others mentioned, through all nutrition and health diet concerns out the door. Gravy, fried chicken and biscuits are Pine States claim to fame. I went at 7:30AM, only a couple people and no line. There are only 3 or so tables, the rest are ledges with stool seats. I can see how this place can get very crowded, very fast. Its high ceilings with lots of natural light and seems to share the area with sizzle pie. You order up front then find a seat. It would be a hard sell to wait in line for an hour and convince yourself to be sandwiched in the confined eating space. When I left at 8 most seats were accounted for. I had, as everyone recommends, the Reggie... it is divine. It isn't drenched in gravy, and they really let the soft buttery biscuit shine. The fried chicken was just the right amount of salt in my opinion (aka salty) and could have been a solo dish. The cheese drips and permeates the entire dish. Ate it within minutes. Add the Aardvark sauce for an complimenting kick. Morning boozing seems to be common here, and I went with the mimosa served in a mason jar. It was more , people rave about the bloody mary which I will have to try. Friend had a Rainier for only $2.50, can't complain about that. And depending on how quickly people leave, finding a seat can take another 5-15 minutes. That said, the line is always moving and people are pretty cool about leaving their table as soon as they're done. The place is popular because it's really good. I've made many a pilgrimage for these amazing biscuits--both when I lived in Oregon and whenever I'm visiting. Every location has it's charms (and I'm so glad there is more than one) and the one on Schuyler also shares a space with Sizzle Pie if you're looking to have a full-blown-carbohydrate extravaganza. And look, the biscuits are amazing--just like your Southern Granny used to make but for me, the real star? The dang mushroom gravy. I have tried, in vain, to recreate that mushroom gravy in my own kitchen time and time again and not a single batch can hold a candle to the culinary magic they're whipping up in the Pine State kitchens. Not great and not bad. For a restaurant with biscuits in its name , the biscuits were so so. This place should be called Fried chicken and biscuits. Just about everything is fried chicken. There's not a lot of choices unless you love fried chicken. The cashier/hostess warned me about the ham, that it would be super salty. I tried it and it is super super salty, like prosciutto. It's a very thin slice of ham, I'd say more like prosciutto than "normal" ham. Although technically prosciutto is a ham. It's a cafeteria style set up. You walk up to give your order, you are given a number, find your own seat and the cashier brings your order to your table. If you are looking for a normal or truck style breakfast, you may be disappointed. If you love fried chicken and southern food, this is your place. If you are stopping by in Portland visiting, this is an absolute MUST-TRY restaurant! Super glad that I routed to this location versus the location on NE Alberta. This location has a much much shorter line, although there is less seating here both indoor and outdoor. But there are always people shuffling in and out so seating may not be as problematic. My boyfriend got the BBQ biscuit and I could not stop myself from stealing his food. The BBQ sauce had an amazing kick to it, the slaw was perfectly marinated/pickled, and the pulled pork tasted great. Biscuit also on point. On a previous trip to Portland, I'd gone to another location of Pine State so I really needed to include a meal here on our weekend eataway. It's ideal for a group outing so you can order more to share. Alone I would need to contend myself with just one biscuit sandwich. But, with a group? Four of us split the REGGIE DELUXE, the BBQ BISCUIT, ANDOUILLE CORN DOG, HASH BROWNS and FRIED GREEN TOMATOES. Location/parking: There's street parking, shouldn't be too far the find - max you'll have to walk is probably a block. I like the location because it's right across from the Crowne Plaza where we used to always stay at. Ambiance: Honestly, this is where I knock off a star. There's some stuff on the walls which I'd rather not have my son see. We get take out. Service: Great, pretty fast considering it's not McDonald's. Food: Wow, and double wow! So the Reggie totally lives up to the hype - fried chicken & thick bacon loaded with chunky gravy. If you're here for the first time - get this. If you're there again (which you probably will be) I like the McIsley - a lighter biscuit with the perfect blend on tangy pickles and sweet honey mustard. I tried my own mix this time (you can build your own) - steak and mushrooms and onions - that was really good too, the morsels of steak were tender and juicy. I think they should have that on the regular menu too with a dollop of gravy! Recommendation: You've totally got to try it! This was me and my boyfriends all time favorite breakfast place, but today was no bueno. They changed their menu prices which isn't the end of the world, but everything was already a little pricey. I tried to order fried green tomatoes, but they said they didn't have enough food to make any full sides (it's usually like 6 tomatoes)? Yet my boyfriends dish had a fried green tomatoes on it and that was okay... So then I tried to order gravy fries, made sure to tell them several times that I wanted the shiitake gravy because I'm vegetarian, but somehow still ended up with sausage gravy so I couldn't even eat the smothered fries (which are usually pretty tasty). Pop tart was great, but we will probably not be coming back anymore :/ *Also, their dining room is very small and sometimes you have to wait for people to leave before you can sit down, so there is a lot of uncomfortable hovering. They should really place the menu somewhere visible or at least have smaller menus because it is hidden behind a wall and makes it impossible to decide what you want before it's your time to order. All these little things together just make it not very worth it to come here. If you really want to try pine state I would say go to the Alberta location where the staff is always super bubbly and the space is a lot nicer. read more

My husband and I visited Portland last weekend and came here for brunch on Sunday. We arrived at around 11:30am or so, and as expected, there was a line just outside the door. The place is rather small, so the "line outside the door" isn't too bad actually. The building is shared with Sizzle Pie and so is the seating area. There aren't very many seats but I feel there was a good rotation of people and you're not without a seat for too long. We got really lucky; as soon as we ordered another couple got up and we were able to grab those seats! We got The Reggie Deluxe [fried chicken, bacon, egg and gravy] and the McIsley [fried chicken, mustard, pickles and honey, some hash browns on the side and of course no brunch is complete without Bloody Mary's. Both sandwiches were really tasty! I liked the McIsley and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys the sweet/savory mix. The honey and the mustard goes so well together!
