We were enjoying the experience with our 5 and 2 year old until the older man with the cowboy hat came up to us and starting yelling at us to stop picking apples and that our bag was too full. They instructed us in the beginning to fill the bag up which we did. They bag still had space, there were no apples falling out and none fell out on drive home (although the man insisted that he saw apples falling out all over the place) and there were plenty other people with bags just as full as ours! Families around us were also horrified and were defending us. I was taken aback and offered to give more money but he finally walked away angrily. I felt like we were being attacked and unfortunately our little girls were scared and it ruined the experience for them. NEVER coming this way again. Avoid this place!! read more

What a lovely place and everyone working here is so friendly. You can pick apples at this place and its such a great experience for kids and adults alike. If you drive just to pick apple's at apple hill, you owe it to yourself if you did not read this review. Do not stop at this place ( Pine o Mine). They are mean old folks, races, inconsiderate and they discriminate other colors, Price are higher than the grower next to them, their apples are spotty, lots of cracks and most of all it is small. You deserve more.. Trust Me..you have more option if you drive farther. Beware of pine o mine. Don't eat their dusty little hot dogs in their dusty little table that facing the parking lot. Went here yesterday with my kids to do some u-picking. Chatted with the owner a bit, who is very friendly, then headed off into the orchard. Found a nice tree and literally after picking the first apple, an old guy rode over on a quad (who obviously worked there) said "those apples on the ground weren't there before you started picking" and "there ain't much use for you out here" and he followed us very closely down the path. The apples on the ground were clearly not caused by us yet this guy harassed us about it. I didn't even know how to respond. I will never, ever go back to this place. We found another u-pick place down the road with much more friendly staff. read more

I would highly suggest that you spend your hard earned money elsewhere to farmers and owners more deserving of it than Pine O Mine. My friend and his family first visit to Apple Hill. I thought we would try here after decent reviews and visit by another friend a few weeks ago. BUT, Very sad to see owners/workers, whoever, talk down and berate paying customers. Has anyone ever NOT eaten an apple off a tree while picking? I didn't think so.... We (2 families, with 4 kids who were behaving themselves) were picking apples, had our $25 box half full when we were approached by the older farmhand with a disgusted look on his face, approached my friend, "do you go to the grocery store and eat all the food there?" "No." "Of course not, so why would you eat apples off the trees?" (We had tasted and eaten about 4 apples between the group, two of those apples still in his and MY hands) "If you would like us to pay for them, we will be happy to pay, it is not a problem." "It is a problem, how are you going to pay for them when they are already eaten?" "Charge us how ever much you think is justified. Of course, we..." "What gives you the right to walk around here and eat the apples..." This was escalating with my friend and going nowhere with resolve. Bottom line, we were feeling threatened and could not even correct our actions. The farmhand was locked directly onto him, never once looking at me during his lecture. Their big orientation before sending us out there mentions everything on how to conserve waste of apples on the ground, picking them correctly "like twisting a door knob," gently, etc. etc. No signs anywhere of "Do not eat the fruit." No verbal warning of sampling or eating during the orientation. Unwritten rule? Honestly, we put up with the double grocery store price for the experience of picking, and having an apple fresh off the tree. Especially when the minimum buy in is $25. Take that as entitlement if you want but we were not being abusive of it or turning it into a free buffet grazing party. "We are not going to eat all your app..." "I don't think you understand." "What do you want us to do? Should we leave, leave the box?" "That would probably be best." Box on the dirt off we went. We get to the the gate as farmhand #2 rides up on his 4 wheeler. "Where's your box?!" Again, zeroed in on my friend and never me but I answered. "Wtf? Go ask your other buddy, he has it." On to walking our car and getting ready to leave without incident when the orientation guy cuts us off. And you guessed it, stepped up to my friend and not me. "You know I can't have you do that." I step in and asked, "how much do you want? Is it money? We sampled a couple apples off the tree to see if we liked them to pick...." Cuts me off and directs his attention to my friend, "we just can't have you do that here." I answered that it will not be a problem again, goodbye. It was not getting kicked out that values them a 1 star review but the anger and direction of their approach. We calmly offered TO PAY for the eaten apples as settlement. We wanted to enjoy a day with friends and family, like we should be able to. Their treatment and disgust with us was really taken aback. I reserve racism as a last resort but I will mention that my friend, his wife, and my wife are Asian. I am white. The focus of the farmhands lectures and scolding where only focused on them. So sad. The day was not lost, we went on to our favorite spots (I won't mention to keep professional) and had a great day. And by the way, if you ask a grocery store for a sample of some of their produce, they will offer it....just sayin'. This is our experience. This is the only place we could pick apples, at least we could not find any other u-pick. We were informed that there were only Granny Smith - Green Apples & the price 1.25 per LB. Kids enjoyed the tire swings, and picking the apples. Most of the apples were really rotten, wrinkled, poorly tasting. Nice place to hang-around for an hour or two most. Just recently relocated to Northern California and my kids thought it would be a great idea to go apple picking. We decided to make the 45 min trek to placerville where there are many orchards to pick from. We came across a few but they were very packed with shops and pre-picked apples. We found Pine-O-Mine tucked away off the side of the road surrounded by orchards. It was very inviting. We were a group of 5 adults and 5 kids... Ranging from 1 to 10 yrs old. The 3 gentlemen at the main booth were very nice and explained the rules of how to pick apples, not to pull them because that may create more wasted apples than necessary. Because of our large group he suggested that we may want to take 2 boxes to fill, but we said this was mostly for the kids to have a good time. He had no problem with this at all. We took many pics! And we even found many Fuji apples that we were already told would be harder to find because they were picked thru already. 2 of the kids had brought their own baskets and had a few in them when we brought up our filled box. We paid a total of $33.00 ..which we thought was pretty reasonable for the family fun day we had. All-in-all...we had a great experience Apple picking! This was a tough apple year so the apples were pretty bleak. But they had frozen blueberries which were a big hit with the kids. They weren't crowded even on an October weekend. They had some fun tire swings that were a big hit with the kids. And the barnhouse thing had some fun chairs that look like it would be really cozy in the winter. We would definitely come back for a visit. Very family friendly and not crowded. They only had a latrine, but they did hook up a sink with running water and soap, which impressed me. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with my kids!! I don't believe in racism nor that it still exist but this place prove me wrong. I believe we were targeted from the moment we parked. Within 4 mins of picking apples a staff (old male) drove directed towards us and waited about 2 mins then started screaming at my 3 year old triplets for throwing back the rotten apples they found on the ground because the apples were too high for them to pick. He told us to "GET OUT with all our KIDS!!!", as if that wasn't enough he drove in his car and escorted us out but not until we had to paid for the rotten apples the kids pick from the ground either. My pregnant sister had to walk fast just to stop this guy from yelling at us and the kids so much. I have never in my life experience anything like this. (Not even when I was in High School). Why did we paid for the apples, just to stop this guy from yelling at us anymore. The kids were confuse and kept asking to go back and actually pick some apples. Needless to say only 6 apples out of the 4 bags were good to eat since the rest were just the rotten ones the kids pick from the ground. If you love your kids, please don't disappoint them by taking them to this place. NOT KID FRIENDLY, or maybe it's just because we're not white. It seems like all the white people on here have good experience just like the other white people at the farm with us. read more

Today 11/16/14, My family and I drove 2 hrs to this place for the first time, and the guy at the front was very nice and gave each of us a bag. As we start picking apples with our kids, this old guy came by and start to trip on us that our kids were picking up apples from the tree n throwing it on the ground. I don't believe it, I watch the kids the whole time. First of all, there were a lot of apples on the ground when we got there. He just came up to us from nowhere n started getting mad telling us to leave the farm. We were there for less then 10 min and got kick out. This place is full of shit, if you have kids please don't bother to go there. Store have better&sweeter apples, we just thought we would take the kids out to pick apples for the first time. It was a very disappointed trip we had today. I truly believe that we wouldnt EVER go here again. This will be our first and last. I will pass my experience around, good luck Pine O Mine... read more
