This place is adorable. They do not have a large variety of olive oil but what they have is really good. I went there wanting Chili infused but they only had jalapeno so i bought it. This last time my husband and I were there with the kids as well (5 total ages 2 1/2 - 17), and the owner was so kind and personable! What a great little store this is!! They let you try nearly everything in the place which is awesome! The lady that was working there was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. As others have mentioned they give a hefty discount for bringing your own bottle. I know the wife will make me bring her here next time we're in the area, can't forget a bottle or two. Excellent jalapeño flavored olive oil. We make the drive from Elk Grove up to Placerville just to go here. Why do you have to try their olive oil? 1. The taste. You know quality when you taste it and this is quality stuff. 2. Extremely knowledgeable staff. I've never had a bad customer experience in the many times I've been here. 3. Fabulous local olive oils! My favorite is the garlic infused, but they are all good. I go through about 1 large bottle a month (on salads and grilled veggies, for cooking, and for bread dipping when I'm not on a low-carb kick). They will refill your bottle and you get a 40% discount. Yay! I also love their aged balsamic vinegar and want to drink it by the glass! lol The store is attractive, and is the perfect place to put together a great gift basket for someone -- there are lots of neat little unexpected treasures in the store. I don't claim to be an Olive Oil connoisseur but I do use it on most things I cook as well as on my salads and occasionally to dip bread in. I stumbled on Winterhill recently while at the Saturday morning Placerville farmers market and tried a couple varieties of their oil, these being the standard Virgin, Blood Orange and Lemon varieties. The woman working their stand was extremely friendly and obviously knows and loves what she does. She told us about this % and that %, anti-oxidants, this, that and the other which was interesting but honestly went in one ear and out the other because once I had tasted the stuff I knew I would buy some. The Blood Orange was delicious but a little too exotic and strong tasting for what I wanted at the moment. I could certainly take a bottle of this just to drizzle over veggies, a salad and certainly to dip bread in. The standard was also very, very good and I'm sure I will be buying some in the near future but on this day I just went with the lemon, it will work in my marinades and as a stand alone perfectly. The bottle was pricey, much more than I normally pay but apparently they will re-fill the bottle if you bring it into their store for 40% off the $20 or so price tag. This brings the price more in line with what I'm used to paying. A % of the fee you pay on the bottle goes to a developmentally challenged program who did the artwork for their bottles or so I'm told. Not only does the stuff taste great but the bottle looks good sitting on my kitchen counter. The kids doing the art may be developmentally disabled, but are without question much more creative and artistic than I will ever be. So you get to feel good about helping the kids out by buying the bottle and by re-using it you help out the environment and get a discount as well! win, Win, WIN! 5 stars all the way and I haven't even been inside their actual store yet! I'll go back to re-fill my bottle though and if that stop requires an adjustment to this review I will make it accordingly but unless a 6 star option is created I doubt modification will be required. read more

The staff really knows their products. They had samples of local honeys, which is what we were interested in. They knew where it came from, and they knew what type of honey they were. They let us sample until we could make a clear decision, and they even told us where else in the area we could find local honey, if we weren't satisfied with what we tried! We ran into Winterhill at Rainbow Orchards this fall and bought the lime infused olive oil and the white balsamic vinegar. It makes the best, healthiest salad dressing - it's all we use now. It was pricey initially, but we've been to the store on Main St. Placerville and had them refilled for 40% off, which makes it worth it. I keep my regular olive oil for everyday cooking and this for salads or something special. It's now a kitchen staple! read more

Lisa was wonderful, she had the certified extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar tastings all set up for us plus we tasted jams and jellies. Lisa was so knowledgeable about all the products, shared cooking and baking tips with us completely without any sales pressure. I just can't say enough good things about Winterhill. I discovered them a number of years ago and can't get enough of their products. I will list my top three. The all time numero uno would be the Shakespeare olive oil. It is a Garlic olive oil that I believe is a grouping of several different garlics if I'm not mistaken. It also won them first place at the judging. Second place is the whole mustard seed in a broth of white vinegar, honey and lavender. It is scrumptious!!! The seeds are super soft and you can pop then between your teeth. It would be lovely on a roast or salad. The third item is strawberry's with Balsamic, that's the entire title!! It has strawberry's, Fig balsamic vinegar and honey. It is Divine!!!! You really must visit this little shop, you would be missing out on some real treasures if you pass it by. Winterhill is a great place to buy flavored olive oils. They have samples for tasting. The oils are fabulous. My personal favorite is the jalapeno, but the lime, lemon and garlic are also delicious. Olive oli can be bought bulk - similar to sites in Italy. The store owner, Richard, is extremely pleasant and helpful. I could have spent more time here, but after purchasing oilve oil, coffee, aged balsamic vinegar and a couple of other items I realized I could save myself broke in this store.
