If you haven't had a good family style Basque dinner and should find yourself in Basque country…read more(Northern Nevada, Southern Idaho and Oregon), you need to add The Star onto your itinerary. A classic restaurant in the heart of Elko with roots going back longer than anyone can remember, they have perfected both family style dining, as well as the perfect steak. At a glance the price seems a little higher than you would expect from some place like Texas Roadhouse, until you realize that the entrees come with literally 7 courses. In the photo below, I had the "petite" ribeye which was huge, juicy and perfect cooked, and came with 5 sides. Not included in the multiple sides were the two previous servings of excellent cabbage soup and Basque salad. When dining at the Star, you'll never have to choose between quantity and quality - every entree comes packed with both. Great service, a nice location in the historic Elko downtown, and the infamous Picon Punch all make this a very worthwhile stop.

Though my father's favorite was Château basque, we would often go to Wool Growers. Definitely the most famous of all of the Basque family style restaurants. Star was very nostalgic and reminded me quite a bit of château basque. The place was packed. As you can see in the videos and pictures that was a line out the door. And definitely worth the wait. Pinchon Punch 2 x blue brain freeze Lamb chops medium rare Family style dinner for one (spaghetti, french fries, beans, cabbage soup, fresh baked bread, salad) Bread pudding Food and cocktails five star all the way. Lamb was cooked perfect. The cabbage soup and spaghetti were delicious. The salad dressing was unique and very enjoyable. French fries were fresh and perfect. We didn't really eat the beans, but homemade bread was fire. But our waitress Jenny was pretty nonexistent. We actually went to the bar and ordered some drinks because we didn't even know if we were going to have a waitress. Finally, when she came to the table, I told her that I pre-ordered some drinks from the bar. She walked away. About 10 minutes later, the bartender brought the cocktails. Jenny came back and asked us what we were ordering. I told her and then she walked away and we really didn't see her again until the Bill. The food and drinks were brought from a variety of people. When we needed some other stuff, I flagged down the waitress for the tables behind us and she happily got us what we needed (water, more fries, etc) I went to the bar and got another cocktail as we would've never gotten another one since we never saw Jenny. The bartender and the other server were quite friendly and helpful . We will happily come back here as the food was just perfect! And it was very nice to eat family style again since it's been quite a few years since I've been to Wool Growers. On a sidenote: Reno used to have a pretty decent Basque restaurant called Santa Fe. We went there quite often and they had the best oxtail stew and they also gave you a small bottle of wine with your dinner complementary... I really miss that place also)

May 2026 Elko, N…read more Hmmmmm . . . 3.0 stars. Here is why. Arrived a little after 5 pm on a Friday. Two tables were already sitting. The hostess sat us in a separate room from the main dining room. It was hit brightly by the sun and felt like a second thought of leftover dining. Asked if we could sit in main dining room and she obliged. We asked about the menu and took time to review it. After some time we ordered. My husband had the chicken Alfredo and I ordered the PASTA MILANO which is described as: Chicken, Tomatoes, Mushrooms in a Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce over Penne Pasta. Sounds good right? It could have been good. But it was not. First of all, I never got chicken in the dish. The mushrooms were diced and very few in the dish. The only thing they got right was the tomatoes. I called the waitress over and told her that my dish had no chicken in it. She said well do you want some? I smiled and said well that's what the dish was supposed to come with. So I waited. Then I decided to go ahead and start eating my food because seven minutes went by and I still have no chicken. When the dish was originally served,, I asked the waitress for Parmesan cheese. She said we don't have Parmesan cheese, but we have black pepper. Huh???? of course you have Parmesan cheese. I have it on my Caesar salad. I really don't think she knew what Parmesan cheese was. I just shrugged my shoulders and took a bite of my food. Again, great concept. But the food had NO flavor. I added salt and pepper. Still nothing. I took the balsamic vinegar that was on the table and added it to the dish. There, I finally had flavor in my meal. But still no chicken. Finally, another waitress brings out a plate of squiggly worm like meat. She said, did somebody order chicken at this table? I was disgusted. First of all, it was not pleasant to see it look like that. Also, you should've offered to remake my meal, or at least take it back and mix it with the chicken. But to make me wait until my dishes is half gone and then bring over a plate of chicken is a poor decision. The chicken fettuccine had a good flavor. But the chicken was tough. Hard to chew. Not good flavor. I ordered a n/a Heineken. She brought it in a glass to the table. It was already poured so I don't know if I truly got what I ordered. Also the glass was too large for the amount of beer that was in it. Makes it look like it was half a drink. The waitress was kind, but we did not see much of her. She never offered to refill our bread basket. According to the menu, you get two baskets of bread and then if you want more you have to pay. We only got one basket of bread and never offered anymore. I was looking forward to some good pasta, and this restaurant did not deliver. Very disappointed in the service, and most definitely the food. The waitress took five dollars off of our meal, but she never explained why she did it or why she decided to take that amount of money. She never apologized for my dish, not having any protein, she never apologized for any thing. Management needs to teach staff that they can take ownership of the situation. It is OK to say you are sorry that the chicken was not put in your dish. Let's see what we can do to make it right. That would have gone so far. Instead, it left my attitude about this place as tough as the chicken in the fettuccine was.

We visited Luciano's today and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience…read more The service was poor from the moment we arrived. The server was rude and unwelcoming. We ordered pasta, but it was of very poor quality--it had an unpleasant smell and was not enjoyable to eat. We ended up leaving most of our food untouched. What was even more disappointing was that no one asked why we had barely eaten our meal or whether there was anything they could do to make it right. At the end of the meal, the server simply tossed our credit card onto the table, which felt disrespectful and unprofessional. Good service earns good tips, but with the combination of poor food quality and discourteous service, this was one of the worst dining experiences we've had. We hope the management takes customer feedback seriously and works on improving both the food quality and customer service.

I got the chicken kabob and my husband had the chicken shawarma. Both were packed with incredible flavor and super satisfying! We couldn't resist grabbing the baklava and a slice of Dubai cheesecake for dessert, and both were fantastic. The restaurant was clean, and the team was welcoming. They quoted us a 20-minute wait, but our food was ready even faster. A quick note for management: We took our meal to a nearby dog park and realized we weren't packed any utensils or napkins. Since a lot of road trippers stop by, having forks and napkins in to-go bags automatically would be a huge help! (Had to get creative as you can see in the photo ). Overall, delicious food and great service!Just remember to double-check for utensils before heading out!

Overall the food is good, the price is reasonable, but the service needs to be improved.

They didn't wanna wait till even Wendover, cause there might not be any good food way out there. OK, so, I pull into the Gold Dust West. I've stopped here before and I do like the food they have at the Grill coffee shop inside the casino. We get seated and drink orders taken. You know I do notice a sandwich on the menu I never had before. It's the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Usually I'd think grilled cheese was a boring sandwich you order for kids or something. But I saw it had bacon and tomato in it. You do have you choice of cheese (besides American) and choice of bread. I got it on sourdough and cheddar cheese along with onion rings ($2.00 extra). I couple of my crew got the same but with fries. The other girl on the crew got the Cali Omelet. Our food arrives and I'm surprised at the heft of the grilled cheese on sourdough. I bite in and wow, this is pretty damn tasty! It's not what I expected at all, better! The other guys liked it too and said they'd get this sandwich again. OK, I was impressed with this new grilled cheese and I think they have it at all the other Gold Dust west locations in Reno and Carson City. If you get to a Gold Dust West Casino, check out this sandwich!

Once seated, our experience was a mix of highs and "almosts." - Appetizer: We started with the fried pickles -- crisp, flavorful, and addictive -- though a seasoned dipping sauce would have taken them to the next level. - Entrées: Antonio ordered the prime rib, advertised at 12 oz, but it appeared a bit smaller than expected. Portion sizes for his sides, however, were generous and satisfying. I went with the penne alla vodka but received penne with marinara instead. While the garlic bread was decent, I missed the creamy, robust vodka sauce that was promised. - Service: A little on the slow side, though staff were polite once they arrived at the table. Overall, the food was decent, but not quite on target. We're planning to give them another try for breakfast -- here's hoping that meal hits closer to the mark.

I paid the tab totaling $118 directly to the owner Tarah and left a $10 tip at that time. As I walked from the register toward the table, the owner shared the tip amount with another employee Nicole Stanton who was standing at the bar. That employee--then loudly yelled across the restaurant that if I was "going to tip that shitty," I should "take my kids with me." As I exited--loud to all patrons--she continued stating that she "knows I make enough money to tip better," while pointing toward my children and continuing to make disparaging remarks. The remainder of our group had offered to leave a cash tip on the table ($20 was on the table). The order itself was simple and not excessive. The $10 tip left at the register on my debit card was intended to be in addition to the cash tip from the group. Publicly disclosing a gratuity amount, using profane language, making comments regarding a customer's perceived income, and directing remarks toward or about my children in a public setting is unprofessional and unacceptable. Due to the conduct of the staff member, I instructed them not to leave the additional cash tip and to leave the restaurant. This was a deeply disappointing experience, particularly given my family's long history of patronage at this establishment.
