We used to always call this place the Smiley Face Restaurant. Actually, we still do. We had our breakfast here on the next-to-last day it was open for the season. They closed until the Spring on 9/3/12. It's a shame it's not open all year, as the motel next door is, because that's a long lonely stretch of road out there in the off-season. They mostly have kids working there, but our service was just alright. You could tell they were probably (not) ready to get back to school. They congregated in the back more than they waited on people, but I've had way worse service, so I'm just going to see how it is next time. It did take a little bit for our orders, and they weren't busy by this time of day. I got scrambled eggs and plain home fries, and he got a pork roll, egg & cheese sandwich, with a side of plain home fries. The prices could've been cheaper, and I will say that this place acts like a "down-the-shore" place, regarding prices and how long they're open for the year. I always found that strange. It's not even anywhere near the shore. The food was good and stuck with us (as opposed to greasy glop that upsets your stomach), and we'll go back, but we don't know when they open for the season. I guess we'll just have to see if there are any cars out front. I'd recommend it. We always look for "Old South Jersey" places like this to eat. There aren't too many left, sad to say.

Over the course of 4 days in AC, I found myself here 3 times - and I have zero regrets about that. This visit I worked my way through the Classic Italian, the Chicken Cheesesteak, and the Philly Cheesesteak. All three were outstanding - the kind of food that just hits every single time and reminds you why this place has the reputation it does. It's hard to pick a favorite when everything is this good. One practical note for first-timers: a full sub is seriously substantial. Come hungry, or plan to share - ordering accordingly will save you from biting off more than you can chew, literally. The staff continues to be an absolute highlight - warm, sweet, and welcoming every time. That consistency in hospitality keeps the experience feeling special visit after visit. White House Sub Shop is an AC institution for a reason. Can't wait to be back.

They are well known and upon entering you can clear tell by the walls of pictures with famous figures in sports, entertainment, and television lining the walls near the booths. They also have limited counter searing at the front. They have a menu of subs only (no fries are served only bagged chips and soda). We opted, on this trip, to get the foot long Italian cold cut sub with light mayo, oil, hot peppers, lettuce, and tomatoe. You have to go to the back of the store to place your order with one of the cooks at the counter there. They will give you a number and once your number is called, you pick up your order and pay for it at the front register. The booth seating is for customers that are eating in store. Our Italian sub was loaded with a variety of meats and cheese. It's cut in half, but you can cut that in half and you really can feed four people and a cheesesteak sub with sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato, light mayo, and hots. The rolls are fresh and sturdy to hold up to the meats, cheese and topping inside (fact: the rolls are made from Formica deli across the street!). The meats and cheeses were fresh in the Italian cold cut and the meat in the cheesesteak was ample with a great taste. All in all, a great spot to grab a sub to go or enjoy in the store.

Not sure if this is a regional thing that they like the bread this way in this part of southern NJ. Had I known the bread was going to be like this I would have gotten it on a different type of roll or as a wrap! Still a great little sub shop and people who work there were nice. Quaint little old school sub shop with the decor that takes you kind of back in time. Definitely stop in for a sub if your driving through the area just be weary of the sub rolls hardness if you like a softer roll like me

The staff walked us through the menu and offered a number of suggestions. There are a few tables, more like bar stools to sit at tucked by the window. A number of drink options in coolers and chips. After hearing all the suggestions my wife and I settled on the Italian Stallion as well as the Sipala la la. The Italian stallion comes with a lot of meat but I think it is overshadowed by the bread. I didn't taste any mayonnaise so the dry bread did nothing for the sandwich. I highly wish I had lesser bread or if the bread wasn't so dry. While I did finish it it was moreso the tasty meat. The Sipala la la seems like a steak and cheese. It comes with a number of peppers which I asked to not have. I spent a few minutes trying to remove as many as I can. Once I got most of them out, the steak and cheese was delicious. I'd get this again. The bread is much softer and taste much more flavorful than the Italian. Overall it's a cool spot in the middle of nowhere. I don't have many reasons to come to Atlantic City so I doubt I'll be back but they are worth a shot if you get your sandwich done the right way.

They both were delicious. Next we ordered 6 of their Sloop Point, 6 of their Laughing Gulls along with an order of their Tuna Crudo - they all didn't disappoint! Then we rounded out our visit with their Eggplant sandwich and their Oyster Po Boy that featured fried Sweet Amalia's that we shared. Both were served on a crusty, sesame seeded Po Boy roll. Everything was fantastic which was complicated but their superb, friendly service - made you feel like family! The atmosphere was warm and the seating on the patio was enhanced with today's perfect weather! They were continually busy while we were there filling all of their tables. In addition to the awesome fare, they also offered local produce, hot sauces, jams, jellys and other cooking tools and cook books! I would give them 5 Stars in all categories. I however felt that the shucked oysters were rather small and with that overpriced at $ 22.00 for a half dozen. All of the other menu items that we enjoyed were a little pricey but definitely not unreasonable given the outstanding quality! I would definitely rate them as a great place to try - well worth the trip down! Give them a try!

But the bread to eggplant ratio was off. However, that's not to say I will not be coming back here. I definitely am. There is plenty more on the menu to try, and I'll be able to for a better opinion the more different dishes I taste.
