I have been coming to your location 3800 Tampa Rd, Oldsmar, Fl 34677 for the last 6 years and today will be the last time I ever go into a pinch-a-penny. They have sold me the filters for my pool for the last 6 years and today they sold me the wrong one (little taller). I installed it and realized they sold me the wrong one. I go back to the store to get the correct one and the teller tells me that it's the one that shows in the system. I don't understand as they have been selling me the same filter for the last 6 years! They were ready to return it and I was going to give me the correct one and a older guy comes out of the back and said, "We can't return it since it is wet". Well of course it's wet its a pool filter. He was rude and didn't even offer a solution. I believe this is the manager/owner. He is a real piece of work and lost a customer for this location and pinch-a-penny. I would have been ok with a return stock fee or something like that, but this guy has zero customer service and does not know how to treat loyal customers. read more

TERRIBLE STORE EXPERIENCE. PLEASE REMOVE THIS FRANCHISE OWNER! This is in regard to an experience with store 162 in Oldsmar, FL. Recently, I noticed my Hayward Navigator pool cleaner appeared to have a broken part. The cleaner was still functioning as normal even after the part failure and moving around and picking up debris but I figured it was best to have the part repaired. I brought the cleaner into the store to have it inspected. I was told it needed a pod kit and gear box. I agreed to have the repairs completed. I picked up the cleaner and brought it home and immediately attempted to use it but the cleaner would not move (only crawl). I brought it back for re-inspection and was told nothing was wrong. I brought it back home again and the results were no different. I called the store back and spoke with a different person who advised me that it was likely my pool filter/setup that was the true problem as the cleaner was repaired completely. I then decided to call the Pinch a Penny at 32350 US 19N Clearwater, FL as I was getting very disgruntled. I decided to bring the cleaner to this location to get a 2nd opinion as the people at the store 162 appeared to be out of ideas/unwilling to assist further. The 2nd store advised that both the turbine spindle gear kit and the A frame turbine kit need replacing. The technician explained that the turbine was difficult to move and was the clear factor in the lack of movement of the unit. I was very frustrated at this point as I had made 6 trips to Pinch a Penny stores and the cleaner is still not fixed. I emailed store 162 and the owner Peter to make aware of the problems and he called me and advised to bring it back in so they could re-inspect again. I did so and he speculated on many possible causes but could not verify the problem. I told him about taking the cleaner to the US 19 N store in Palm Harbor and the repairs that were recommended. He stated that the store recently became a franchise and they were scamming me to spend money I did not need to and the parts they recommended do not need to be replaced and once again stated it was my pool setup. At this point, I was unsure of who to trust, so I advised I would be ordered the parts myself from Amazon and completing the repairs as he insisted it would be best to purchase a new pool cleaner. I ordered the parts and completed the repairs this past weekend and the cleaner is now working and cleaned the pool. I emailed Peter again to advise the cleaner is repaired based off the recommendations from US 19 and stated that I felt he should try to make things right due to the wasted time/gas driving back and forth to the store. He called me this morning and I advised of my concerns and he cut me off and proceeded to berate me for 5 minutes about how I do not deserve anything and in fact I owe him money for wasting their time. I attempted to jump in a few times but he would not let me speak. I finally asked if I could respond and he stated no and hung up on me. This store displayed horrible customer service. They mis-diagnosed the true problems, which led to me making many trips to the store, ultimately going to another store, completing the repairs myself, and lastly, when I tried to bring up the concerns, blamed me and treated my very poorly (the worst I can remember ever being treated by a store). I escalated to Pinch a Penny corporate and spoke with Keaton who advised he would reach out to the store. He then called and told me he talked to Peter and cannot do anything because they are a franchise and they have no control over customer service even though it is under their umbrella. I escalated to his manager and was told they would not do anything for me because again the store is untouchable as a franchise. The only hope left is for Pinch a Penny to not renew their contract with this location. I made it clear to Keaton that many other reviews discussed how Peter is a complete jerk to his customers and he stated that this will be addressed with Peter at contract renewal. read more

I had a 'pool guy'. My pool wasn't looking to good. I didn't even want to get into it.I took a water sample to this location. The young lady who helped me, BEA, analyzed my water. The Pinch A Penny Store at 3800 Tampa, RD Oldsmar , FL is the best run Pinch A Penny I've been to yet. They test my water twice a month and have always given me the best advise on when and what to add to keep the pool water sparking. The never ever try to push product. It is a true pleasure dealing with owner Pete and the manager Lilly. I recently had them change out my old 12 year old pool pump for a new one, and the change out was quick and I received a thorough tutorial on how to use the new system. My experiences with this store has been so good, I don't even bother comparing prices on equipment elsewhere. The customer service I receive at this location far exceeds pricing. It brings me back to the old mom and pop hardware stores growing up where everyone is treated like family. I wish more business establishments in todays day and age were run like this store. Ron Fulton The guy that owns this store is a joke and will try and take advantage of you, case in point, last month while i was getting my water tested i asked if they had a couple of screws plastic for either a Jandy / hayward ball valve, they young girl came back with 2 of them packaged individually , when i went to pay for them i was asked for over $50.00 i was in disbelief and said no thanks. Fast forward 2 wks later i was in once again and showed the owner the package below from Amazon, that had 3 pcs for $7.00, and he tried to justify the price difference, and i walked out because of this Woke mentality now i have been going to this store for a decade i get salt, acid, filters etc, so today he starts another conversation actually arguing and still trying to justify the cost, at this point i look at him and told him the conversation is finished, guess he didn't like that and now shouting at me and telling me to get out of the store, do not ever use this store as they are total RIP off joint and the owner is a total Woke MORON, look at the pics below and please remember they wanted $25 ea. read more

The guys who work here are super friendly. I have to admit, I only stopped by because I saw pool noodles in the window. It was January and Walmart had informed me they weren't selling pool noodles for the next couple of months. Hello, we live in Florida and have pool heaters! But I digress. I was on my way home after not finding pool noodles and saw some pool noodles in the window. I made a quick u turn and pulled into this Pinch a Penny. The fatter noodles were a little less than $5. Is that expensive for a pool noodle? I honestly have no idea, but I was just happy it was there. I had a gift card that only had a couple dollars on it so I was trying to use it up and then pay for the rest on my credit card. The employee couldn't figure out how to let me pay the rest with the credit card and seeing I was struggling holding a six month old baby told me just to take the noodle. He said it was his gift for the baby. I thought that was incredibly nice of him. We could have stood around for many more minutes trying to figure out how I could pay an additional dollar or two. I just had to write this review to give accolades to the employee. The store seemed clean and well maintained. I'll definitely be back if I need more pool supplies. read more

I gave one star because I had to for writing this review. My advice to anyone going to this store is to stay away. I bought a sweeper for my pool, which had a rebate on it and it never worked. Instead of giving me my money back or exchanging it, they said they would charge me a 20% restocking fee to take a broken item back that never worked! The corporate office was apathetic and non responsive stating only that stores are individually owned and they can't do anything. Meanwhile I'm out $235 for nothing. This guys are terrible they do nothing each month and now broke the pool!! I came home from a trip to see huge concrete size chemical filled to top of the skimmer basket!! I tried to dig it out but entire pipe is full of this hardened chemical, these guys must hire people with no interest in actually taking care of a pools. They piled hardened chemical on top of chemical, over and over clogging the drain pipe. Unreal, are they blind?? 0 stars. They may have a lawsuit if this isn't fixed immediately. It's to bad I can't give them another 5 stars. I'm fairly new to being a pool owner but the staff at Pinch A penny have really made the learning curve enjoyable. Anytime I stop in they're courteous knowledgeable professional and they really do give a damn about how good your pools doing and are more than willing to offer some suggestions and it really is appreciated. Terrible service! After 2 weeks of a chlorinated floating in my saltwater pool, I had to call to find out what was going on. They admitted to putting my saltwater pool into 'salt lock.' Their suggested remedy was to drain some of the water which would dilute the salt levels upon refilling. The larger problem started when the technician left the pool draining unattended and completely flooded my yard. The pool was drained almost completely (apparently by accident) while the equipment was left running, causing potential damage to the equipment. They were unable to complete the project and left me without a pool for the weekend, moss growing where stagnant water filled my yard, and who knows what problems I will face with the equipment. read more

Had the service for over three years and through two owners and multiple managers. I have never seen a pool company clean a pool in the poring rain. I have an un covered pool that they were cleaning and they could never get it right. They would only skim and half clean the walls and floor of the pool. They would never clean the traps. All the leaves that they would remove from the pool they would dump in the corner by my ac unit. I have dogs and asked for a set day so the dogs could be put up on that day. They would come in other days and complain the dogs were out yes not your day. They came when it was raining an the dogs were out who cleans the pool in the rain. If you have an uncovered pool I would not recommend them. Looks like new owners of the Oldsmar store same bad service. I would use other pench a penny stores not this one. read more

Very helpful and very nice gentlemen. Wanted to get us the most for our money without trying to upsell or just for us to buy most expensive. They also were very thorough about explaining possible repairs needed in the future about normal wear and tear of each piece of equipment. read more
