I've been a customer of the South Lakewood ranch store (217) for the past 5 years and have found them to be very professional in all of my dealings with them. I was cleaning my own pool. I would get the water tested regularly, and buying the required chemicals from them. About a year and a half ago I decided that I needed a professional to do the weekly cleaning and hired Pinch a Penny. Our service tech, Joel, has done an admirable job in keeping our pool in top notch condition. He really goes the extra mile to make sure that we're happy with his work, always lets me know what he's doing, and he deserves a tremendous amount of credit. I hope that he continues to clean our pool because I don't think we could get a better tech for our pool maintenance read more

Unprofessional staff, bad owner, look for pool service somewhere else! They don't vacuum monthly, do poor job with making sure the chemicals they use don't ruin the area surrounding your pool and if you have a problem with the business, the owner wouldn't return your call or email. read more

Don't waste your time or money on this pool service, service is terrible and the company does not follow through with complaints. They do not clean filters, they do not vacuum the pool, and you never see the same service person twice. One of the service people punched a hole through our pool screen with a brush handle, owner said they would take care of it and they never did. In February 2017 I purchased a Pentair Mater Temp 250,000 BTU heater from Pinch-A-Penney at 11161 East SR 70 in Lakewood Ranch, FL. It seemed to work well until March 2019. After four service calls under warranty, we thought the problem was fixed. We returned from Wisconsin in November 2020 (left early in spring due to Covid) and realized the problem was still there. However, now the heater is out of warranty. Pinch-A-Penny now refuses to cover the ongoing repair under warranty. Adding insult to injury they refused next day service they said there are other people with service calls ahead of me. My grandchildren are in town for only a few days for the Thanksgiving holiday. They spend all day in the pool, however, no heater-no pool. Fast forward to Oct 2022. We returned to Florida for the winter only to have the heater fail again. I opened the front panel and started to hear a clicking sound. I gently move the control wires only to have the connector fall off the circuit board. It was obviously defective from the factory and was probably the root cause of all the problems. I had asked Pinch-A-Penny and Pentair to replace the unit as a lemon while it was still under warranty. They both refused. I asked them to supply a new circuit board under warranty, they not only refused, but the manager called me a "Negative Nancy." I would not recommend making any major pool purchases at Pinch-A-Penny, as they cannot properly service the product. I would also not recommend any Pentair product, as they also would not do anything to replace an obvious lemon pool heater. Buy any other product than Pentair. read more

Our 2015 pool pump needed repair or replacement, we didn't know which. We called Pinch a Penny because standing by their work after first getting an estimate from an electrician who was very knowledgeable but could not give us an installation appointment sooner than November. Pinch a Penny only had a 3 day wait. I was very impressed with the young man who installed the new pump. He was very professional, talked me through the options and patiently answered all my questions. After the installation, Kyle gave me an overview of the new equipment and showed me how to set the timer & switch modes. The newer model seems more straight forward and user friendly than our old pump. I feel confident that Kyle did a superb job selecting the right replacement, doing an expert job of installation and charging a reasonable price. Wow - the people and service here are awesome! I'm new to the area and I made the bad mistake of going to one of their competitors in the area first. Being completely unhappy with the others, I stopped into Pinch A Penny and was blown away. First of all, they were super friendly and super helpful. I had a few questions about my pool and they were very quick to answer all my questions, with expert knowledge. I took advantage of the free water test and they were happy to oblige. They quickly entered me into their system, so they'll develop a history of my pool, etc, to make it easier in the future. I thought I had a problem with my chlorinator, so they sent someone out the next day. He was a very knowledgeable young fella, who cleaned the chlorinator and replaced a small part too. He also diagnosed a few issues I thought I was having with the pool and he taught me a few things. Pinch a Penny is my go-to pool place! read more

In essence, for many months, I have used Pinch-a-Penny as my pool cleaning company to obtain weekly cleaning, chemicals, and monthly filter cleaning. I thought all was well until I went into my pool and there was a thick layer of algae on the stairs. I then learned that my pool filter was horribly dirty and required me to clean that myself. So, I decided to check my surveillance videos and found that my pool was not being cleaned in a manner consistent with my payments and understanding. As per the "door hanger" where the technician states what was performed, every week since January 2024 has the same things checked off: "Brush Walls, Clean Tiles, Clean Strainer Baskets, Skim Surface, Leaf Rake, Test Water". The service was also supposed to include monthly filter cleanings, though this was NOT checked off the "door hanger" on any visit in January, February, March, or April. I thought this might be an error, but after realizing the pool had not been brushed correctly and the filter not cleaned for months, I reached out to the store. When called about this issue, the Pinch-A-Penny service manager (Paul) did not return the call and I called back the following week. On 04/30/2024, the owner ("Bo") stated that I was entitled to my opinion about the pool services and that he would not return any amount related to the pool services that were not provided as contracted. He also stated that, even though the pool services were canceled in mid-April, he would not return the past charged amount for April because there is a "handshake agreement" that he would be provided at least 30 days notice for any cancellation of services. He was the rudest and most unprofessional person I have ever spoken with at any business, let alone one that should be focused on customer service and returning business. The dates and times below are only the most recent examples of the service provided since February 22, 2024. These are actual time stamps obtained from my surveillance cameras at the front driveway and overseeing the pool equipment. Note that the pool technician was at the house for between 4 minutes and 9 minutes each week - this is not enough time to perform all the services noted and definitely implies the filter was never cleaned (which takes more time than that to remove it from the housing and hose it off). Even with this information, the owner stated that he would not refund any potion of the past charges. I asked only for one month to be refunded, as it was clear the pool technician did not do his job for at least the past four months. "Bo" refused and said that he would not refund anything and then welcomed me to "do your best" to spread the word about their unprofessionalism and poor service. Have only had great dealings with the location on SR-70 up until today. I had a $2K new "intelligent" variable speed pump installed today which is far more complex than the basic pump it was replacing. The install looks great however the workers didn't even inform me when finished or provide a basic overview of the unit and what the current programming was set to. This was even after I had questions I had discussed with them before installation regarding low pump speed effect on my water features and heating unit. I also have no clue whether I need to register the unit for the 3yr warranty or if they do that. I called the store once I realized they had left without checking in and was told that's normal and I would have had to request in advance that they check out with me after install. There is no service oriented business I've ever dealt with that doesn't do a basic post service/installation check out with the customer before charging them and/or leaving the property. Again, this is a much more complex piece of equipment than what it was replacing and a brief overview would have been helpful and was expected. I hope the owner of the store reads this and considers modifying their policy to include a basic check in, good bye and thank you for your business post installation moving forward. If the installers are reading this....the install looks great and you guys were pleasant but know I had two $20 bills in my pocket for each of you as a thank you but you never provided the opportunity to give it to you since you left without notice. By the way. The install was a day later than quoted, which I was fine with. But also another opportunity to provide a little extra service to make up for the customer inconvenience. I'll continue to use this location but just wanted to provide what hopefully will be taken as constructive feedback. read more

This is a chain and obviously a big hit in The Sunshine State. Why I am writing the review is because: (1) constantly the staff here is very helpful and courteous. In addition, always carrying out purchases for customers. (2) the prices are good. You often think it might be better at a large discount store or online, but I've been checking this summer and they are competitively priced; and (3) such great pool toys. read more

People need to realize that Pinch-A-Penny locations are franchised and, as a result, the prices, service and experience can vary wildly. While store personnel at the various locations that i have been to have all been very helpful, the weekly service can vary significantly, as well as purchasing materials such as heaters and automation panels. The location at SR64 and Lakewood Ranch I have found to offer competitive rates for both repairs and service. The nearby location on SR70 and LWR is significantly higher for everything. read more

This company was suppose to take care of my pool while I was away up north. When I returned the beginning of November I was shocked at the awful mess I found in my pool. I had black mold spots, a pile of calcium/ residue of some sort in the corner,filthy brown water vents on the bottom of the pool, and a dirty filter that probably wasn't cleaned in months. When I complained they sent out the service manager to resolve the issues, and then charged me for the service! I called the owner to ask for a refund on service, and he hung up on me. Beware! Then over the years, Teri and Steve and Mo on St. Rd 70 have professionally and thoughtfully provided exceptional service and advice. They and their techs have always given me the answers and service that solved any problems quickly, easily and affordably. They are honest and intelligent and helpful in every encounter. I bring my pool water sample in 3-4x per month and they test the water for free then provide clear instructions on what steps I need to take to maintain a healthy and beautiful pool. They always carry out heavy bags or items to my car. When I have questions with mold/mildew they provide solutions that work right away. When I have an emergency issue they solve by phone, or come practically immediately to help me out. They've taught me how to use the complicated pool equipment, and they've come and done it for me. Started off Strong, ended horribly. That is the only thing I could think on how to begin this review. I give 2 stars only because the service was excellent for the first three months. The worker would show up like clockwork on Thursdays to service our pool and spa. Then we didn't get service for two weeks and that is only because we called. The manager was there with a new worker. We understand turnover. The new guy was only with us for about a month, then a third guy came. The first two guys would brush the walls, clean the filter, put chemicals in the pool and leave a slip of what was accomplished even when I was home. The third guy came and brushed the walls, no chemicals at least two of the three times I was outside playing with my kids. We decided early in February that I would just take over cleaning the pool since the rates were raised by $20 a month more. Around mid February, the guy "cleaning" my pool and spa asked me "Since you are not going to be with us in March, do you want me to come back?". I looked at him kinda laughed and said of course we paid for the service for the month. I never saw him again. I called Pinch a Penny and got a run around, then talked to a manager who was either having a bad day or is just short on the phone, I asked him to send someone when they can to do a final cleaning of my pool and add the chemicals like we paid for as the pool was beginning to turn cloudy. He said they will be there and hung up. Well they never came! I called and got another run around after I talked to a lady and said that she would give my number to the store owner who I could talk to. They never called. Thanks for the first three months of wonderful service. I should have just done the pool servicing myself from the start. read more
