We stopped here for a late lunch around 2pm on a Sunday after finding out the one restaurant we wanted to eat at was closed on Sunday...I guess they did not update their hours on their website....:-( Pimienta means Pepper so I knew it was going to be a place with some spicy food choices and in fact it was a Jamaican inspired place. Once we sat down, we were told there was a QR code on the table where we could open the menu and order...all the ordering is mobile based...nothing is order via human interaction. I ordered a Brown Stew Chicken and my husband got the Crossroads Cheeseburger. My husband ordered the cheeseburger medium with lettuce and no tomatoes...and the Mac and cheese side. When the burger arrived it was bloody red, so it was medium rare rather than medium and there was no lettuce. We asked for the waiter to fix which they did. The burger came back within minutes the way it was supposed to be...it was a good burger but nothing spectacular... My chicken dish was really good, not as moist as it could had been (or as I have had at other Jamaican places) but it was very tasty. The rice and beans was flavorful and the ripe plantains were nice and sweet. At the time to pay, you again, get on the app and pay with a credit card...a 20% service fee is immediately added to the bill, to cover tip and other fees. Not a bad place for a meal. We saw a sign where they have happy hour on Monday to Fridays from 4-6pm and you get a Red Stripe draft for $4. read more

If I say "hole in the wall" it's a term of endearment not a criticism! Pimenta is a diamond with a little bit of the coal still left on it.. Lol My friend drove 35min to get here which threw me off a lil, but the food was worth the hike. Never judge a book by its cover is what my parents told me and never underestimate the under dog.. All the clichés can be used for Pimenta...lol Once you enter, it's truly not a lot to love but once the food comes out.. OMG!!! This is Jamaican Cuisine at its FINEST! Every dish and drinks were outstanding. The oxtails were fall off the bone and loaded with flavor. The shrimp entrée and appetizer could not have been any better! The service was A1 and if I live anywhere near Fredericksburg, Pimenta would be in my heavy rotation! I'm glad my friend had a taste for Jamaican and took me along for the ride..LOL read more

Maybe this was a mistake on my part by ordering through uber vs going to the restaurant but a few issues to state. 1. I ordered rice and peas and received jasmine rice no peas 2. For 28$ i only received what is basically 2 oxtails they are so thin and small as seen in the picture 3. The coco bread omg hard as a rock literally un eatable No the food was mostly tasty i will be fair but for the money i would not eat here again read more

I hadn't been here in a few years, and decided to go again! It was a Friday night around 645 and it was empty. Completely empty, aside from the employees. We got to pick whatever table we wanted, which i looked, but some of the chairs were VERY wonky and we had to switch tables twice before we were greeted. One of the tables also needed to be wiped down, but there were plenty others to choose from. I started with coco bread, which was great! I could have used more butter, they're was less than a Tbl, but I made it work. My curry chicken, again, was great! I got it with white rice and roti, which they are now calling roti skin... that threw me off. I've never heard of roti having skin attached to the title. It was so good, whatever you want to call it, and that's all that really matters! The gentleman who prepared all the food was nice and came out to see if we liked our food and would we like to try his non alcoholic drinks he made from scratch. The drinks had way too much sugar for my palate and not enough flavor, but he evocative that they put them on ice and they get watered down. If I could have tasted more raspberry I don't think the sweetness would have seemed so extreme. I will have to make it a habit to come down Caroline a bit farther to eat here more often! read more

A must try in downtown Fredricksburg!! Pimenta is back and better than ever under new management with a talented new chef! The service was outstanding, the staff incredibly welcoming, and the food--absolutely delicious. Every bite was full of bold, authentic Jamaican flavor. Food is great! I ordered the oxtail and it's definitely a 10/10. Great service and as a Jamaican, I love the ambiance and background music. Feels like home away from home. If you are in Fredericksburg, VA, definitely try them out!!!! read more

While the customer service was outstanding however the food was a disappointment. The favorite were the side dishes - cabbage and Mac & cheese. The oxtails were extremely salty and the stew chicken was bland. I have been eating Caribbean food for decades. Born and raised in Brooklyn- I had the luxury of having so many options. Not just in the borough of Brooklyn everywhere in NYC. I was so looking forward dining at this establishment. Would I return - perhaps in the far far future. read more

Great place to enjoy some authentic Jamaican food in FXBG. Nice Jamaican music setting the vibes, with a clean interior. The food came out freakishly fast - which may mean they have popular items like jerk chicken prepped in advance which wasn't a big deal because the food was warm and tasty. Had a "father's punch" cocktail, made by the friendly waiter/bartender Reign - it was awesome. Started with fresh coco bread and for my entree got the jerk chicken, rice and peas, mac and cheese, and cabbage - thoroughly enjoyed all. Will be back again..! read more

We visited Pimenta while seeking lunch in historic Fredericksburg, and it turned out to be a great spot for Jamaican eats! Although I am not all that much familiar with Jamaican cuisine, it made me want more. We didn't know where to eat since there were so many dining options around. But Pimenta seemed intriguing, as we don't often eat Jamaican food. Plus, the positive Yelp reviews urged us to come here. We visited on a weekday and had the whole place to ourselves for dining in. The special of the day was a chicken stew in brown sauce, which my boyfriend ended up ordering. I had the jerk chicken. And for both of our entrees, we were able to pick two sides each, which we ended up sharing. We had the plantains, mac and cheese, rice with peas and Dunn's river beans. For a drink, I ordered a painkiler cocktail. It didn't take long for our food to arrive and everything was fantastic! We both enjoyed our food, but I can't tell if I liked the protein best or the different sides! All of the sides were really good, and would recommend to do what we did and share all the sides with a loved one, so you can try four instead of two! The plantains are best to be eaten last, like a dessert! The jerk chicken was tender and flavorful, so it didn't need as much sauce as it had on it. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken stew in brown sauce, which I had a bite of and liked. Service was awesome here. Our server was very friendly and checked in with us throughout our meal. When he asked if I needed hot sauce and said I did, he brought out four different hot sauces! If that's not going above and beyond then I don't know what is. I recommend trying out Pimenta for delicious, hearty Jamaican dishes and a cocktail list that will you have tipsy. read more

I've dined here twice and have been satisfied each time. This most recent visit is what encouraged me to finally write a review. What was it you ask... reservations!! I had a different restaurant in mind but called and told they didn't make reservations but around 5pm should be no issue seating two people. So we drive "farther south" for dinner and entered the restaurant only to be told the wait was 1.5 hours. What a bummer. Now it's Yelp to the rescue because, after all.. I don't frequent this town much. The useful cross reference app came in handy when I noticed that Pimenta was listed and was available for 5:15. At this point, dining somewhere new was out the question because of time so here we go. Pimenta was nearly 1.5 miles from the original restaurant, amble street parking was available. It was obvious the reservations is new because it somewhat threw off the staff member who was surprised to see it pop up on their screen. After being seated it took a longer while to order food (20 mins or so) but it appeared they make have been short of staff. Nonetheless, the server was friendly, attentive, and ensured us that we would have our food in time to make the upcoming event. The atmosphere is relaxing. The music is at a perfect level for conversation. The decor is inviting and simple. There is a small bar area near the entrance but I have not tried any cocktails or drinks. There is another section where people were exiting with instruments and band equipment. It appears there is live music at times which is unfortunate to have missed. Who doesn't love live music. The food arrived and it was hot, flavorful, and nicely plated. The jerk shrimp was spicy and seasoned to perfection. The curry shrimp was just the same. The cabbage was better the last time I dined here but still good. The egg rolls wasn't my favorite only because of the crust but the veggies inside were tasty. I've backed away from bread but having not eaten coco bread before I tried it and did not notice anything that stood out from any other bread. Now that Pimenta has reservations which is so convenient when traveling down to dine, it will definitely be revisited. read more

This place is now under new management but the service was still friendly. It had the fish which was fresh and tasted great.

The food was good, server was alright. Our food took forever. The kitchen didn't place one of our orders and didn't realize it until everyone had got their food. Food took over an hour to arrive and one person didn't even get their food (the kitchen messed up and never started the order) The food is generally good (love the jerk salmon and mac n cheese) but the steamed red snapper was raw on the bottom. Waitress was very nice. This review was originally 3 stars, cause I've been here numerous times and the food only had issues today (although time is always an issue here), but I made the mistake of posting the review while still at the restaurant and the manager (i presume) literally walked to my table of 10 to ask who wrote the review. Absolutely classless, so the review's dropped to a 1. read more

My boyfriend finally decided to try Pimenta. Best decision we've made since moving here in January. The egg rolls were one of the best appetizers I've ever eaten. My boyfriend got the jerk salmon and it was dug into and almost gone before I could get a photo. I got the curry chicken. It was good but I'm not a fan of bone-in meat so I didn't eat much. We each got two different sides to split. Top notch roti bread and plantains. Definitely will be going here and bringing any friends that visit along. read more

I was not expecting to find a spot like this in Fredericksburg, VA. Like this meaning, authentic Caribbean food that is actually really good. I was out there for work and was researching where I was going to grab dinner, and came across Pimenta. It was 5 mins from my hotel, so I was curious to see what it was all about. It's location is somewhat hidden, in that it is not in the main area of downtown. Still easy to find and get to. Got there around 7:30 and sat at the bar. As soon as I sat down I immediately received great service. Bar tender was extremely enthusiastic about their drink menu, and had a lengthy conversation about the upcoming plans to their drink offerings. The waitress was also great, and was able to help with my food selection. They have a variety of options. Appetizers, burgers, soups, salads, seafood offerings, main courses, and desert. I was torn between the main courses. Options were curry chicken, goat, oxtail, jerk chicken. I went with the Curry Goat! Comes with 2 sides so I ordered the Mac (of course) and the cabbage. Food came out and man was I shocked. They definitely give you your money's worth, which some times is unusual for Caribbean restaurants. Not here. This portion was well worth my $16. Was able to have lunch for the next day. Always a plus for me. Everything was absolutely amazing. Goat was nice and tender with great flavor, mac and cheese was super creamy and was great with the mixing of curry sauce from the goat. As for the spice they had a variety of the grace brand hot sauces, which I like the fact that they had various options. Such a great experience! Glad to have a place like this in Fredericksburg. Can't wait to get back out there to try more from the menu. read more

I went here on a whim when my husband and I stopped to grab a bit in Fredericksburg on the way from out of town, and a lot of other places were closing. I'm definitely glad we ended up here. The restaurant itself is nice and chic inside, do big ups to the owners for elevating Jamaican cuisine. It is definitely delicious and deserving of the high-end treatment too. We had a very nice window seat. I'm sure it's an even better choice during the day, since there located in a busy spot in what appears to be downtown. I loved those big, open windows that greet you once you walk in. Service was warm and friendly and very prompt. It's a good thing, because we were starving. I loved that there menu was full of tons of authebtic options you don't find in most Jamaican restaurants, even some I never heard of, and, growing up, I practically lived with my best friend who is Jamaican and an excellent cook. I was happy to see a variety of meats, including an array of seafood options (soups, stews, fried, etc). I ordered the curry goat, since the stew was out. If I ever go back, stew chicken it is! It must be great. My husband got the oxtail. The food was definitely very flavorful overall but, for Jamaican, I needed more. It scratched the itch for good food and for Jamaican food specifically, but I wished there was more punch in the flavor, and I really wished the meats were cooked more. I like my stewed meats very soft and tender. They were not tough, just not to my preference. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I'm hungry and in the area, but it didn't match homemade for me. If you like flavorful food though, you won't be disappointed. Plus, I got my food in a flash. Ain't mad at that! read more

I do really enjoy this place. They specialize in their Jamaican entrees. I'm not from here, visiting family and wanted try something different. Looked up on Yelp and this place popped up. Im happy it did. My oxtail dish was so soft and tender. Flavors were great I wanted to lick the plate. Love myself some plantains. Waiter Recommend peas and happy I tried it. Usually don't like peas but this was flavorful. He was great and the food came out fast. The place is clean and cute. The jerk chicken was bursting with flavors but it was dry. Not impressed. Have been there many times when we lived in Stafford, and for the most part satisfied. We were in town visiting family this past week, and 3 of us, wanted to have lunch there on Wed. Very disappointed in the food, both quality and portions which Seemed to be much less than before. . Then to get our bill with a service charge for dining in as well as service charge for taking out an order without any notification before eating was enough for me. If you are gonna charge someone for dining in your restaurant, then you should place a notice on your front door BEFORE they decide to dine. We had planned to return with all 12 of family , but after the experience on Wed, we made other plans. Sorry about this, because we liked the place when we lived there. read more

This is a place I've been wanting go try for a few years, as I've heard very good things and read great reviews... So, I had a chance for lunch today and stopped in... When I got there, I was the only patron at that time, it was around noon'ish. Staff were friendly and helpful and they have an interesting menu, loaded with some decent and appetizing food! I opted for their Jerk Chicken, which comes with two sides... I chose their mac & cheese and beans & rice for sides. The chicken was excellent! The mac & cheese didn't look like much and the first bite was rather "basic" but subsequent bites were awesome... I have to say, this is a legit mac & cheese. The rice and beans were good, something I enjoyed, but the flavors from the other things were enough to fill me up. As for the chicken - it was awesome! Great spice to it, even though the flavors seemed to be a little lacking what I'm used to with Walkers Wood or even Grace's, it was awesome and something I really enjoyed! I'd love to try their jerk shrimp!! The place is decorated beautifully! I really enjoyed looking around while inside and can see that this is a fun, special place to dine in the evening. Overall, I really liked it and would definitely return! read more

The food here is pretty good and the atmosphere is pleasant! However, I really was taking aback by the 20% surcharge that was added to my bill for dining in. My bill was around $38 however after the surcharge it brought it up to almost $45. I was going to tip the waitress anyway, but I see portions of the surcharge are for various other fees. So, the waitress was only getting a portion of the $7 surcharge. In my opinion this is an unfortunate add on for individuals dining in or ordering out (there is a 10% surcharge for take out). So, gone are the days of charging a 20% gratuity for parties of five or more. It has now been replaced with this 20% surcharge per person and mandatory use of QR codes (instead of physical menus). I'm definitely going to be creating my own meals and eating at home more read more
