Jerk Chicken with Two Sides and A La Carte Oxtail

After nearly eight years of searching for good Jamaican food in Fredericksburg, I finally found a spot -- now under new management -- and it did not disappoint. 10 out of 10, highly recommend!"

If I say "hole in the wall" it's a term of endearment not a criticism! Pimenta is a diamond with a little bit of the coal still left on it.. Lol My friend drove 35min to get here which threw me off a lil, but the food was worth the hike. Never judge a book by its cover is what my parents told me and never underestimate the under dog.. All the clichés can be used for Pimenta...lol Once you enter, it's truly not a lot to love but once the food comes out.. OMG!!! This is Jamaican Cuisine at its FINEST! Every dish and drinks were outstanding. The oxtails were fall off the bone and loaded with flavor. The shrimp entrée and appetizer could not have been any better! The service was A1 and if I live anywhere near Fredericksburg, Pimenta would be in my heavy rotation! I'm glad my friend had a taste for Jamaican and took me along for the ride..LOL

    Oxtail with Two Sides

Maybe this was a mistake on my part by ordering through uber vs going to the restaurant but a few issues to state. 1. I ordered rice and peas and received jasmine rice no peas 2. For 28$ i only received what is basically 2 oxtails they are so thin and small as seen in the picture 3. The coco bread omg hard as a rock literally un eatable No the food was mostly tasty i will be fair but for the money i would not eat here again

I hadn't been here in a few years, and decided to go again! It was a Friday night around 645 and it was empty. Completely empty, aside from the employees. We got to pick whatever table we wanted, which i looked, but some of the chairs were VERY wonky and we had to switch tables twice before we were greeted. One of the tables also needed to be wiped down, but there were plenty others to choose from. I started with coco bread, which was great! I could have used more butter, they're was less than a Tbl, but I made it work. My curry chicken, again, was great! I got it with white rice and roti, which they are now calling roti skin... that threw me off. I've never heard of roti having skin attached to the title. It was so good, whatever you want to call it, and that's all that really matters! The gentleman who prepared all the food was nice and came out to see if we liked our food and would we like to try his non alcoholic drinks he made from scratch. The drinks had way too much sugar for my palate and not enough flavor, but he evocative that they put them on ice and they get watered down. If I could have tasted more raspberry I don't think the sweetness would have seemed so extreme. I will have to make it a habit to come down Caroline a bit farther to eat here more often!

First and foremost, the were greeted with a warm smile by our sweet waitress . Came in before rush hour . We ordered egg rolls as starter and it was delish. I got tequila sunrise and hubs got Long Island ice tea . it was fantastic. I ordered goat curry and my main and sides were jasmine rice and plantains ... this is the first time having Jamaican , so let me just say, I want to hop on flight to Jamaica asap . lol hubs got Jerk chicken with bean rice and cabbage ... it was flavorful and spicy . overall with our experience , we will be back . we stopped by on a whim and sooo glad we did!

Preorder took over 2 hours even though there were no customers in the store. Food portions were ridiculously small and over priced at $101 for takeout that was handed over spilled without any effort of fixing the issue! Chicken patty dough was raw! All pictures included below of disappointment! Waste of time and money!

I had dinner here with a friend after our original plans fell through & it was delicious! Nice little quaint place. We were greeted by a couple of pleasant young men who sat us right away. The food was delicious!

Great place to enjoy some authentic Jamaican food in FXBG. Nice Jamaican music setting the vibes, with a clean interior. The food came out freakishly fast - which may mean they have popular items like jerk chicken prepped in advance which wasn't a big deal because the food was warm and tasty. Had a "father's punch" cocktail, made by the friendly waiter/bartender Reign - it was awesome. Started with fresh coco bread and for my entree got the jerk chicken, rice and peas, mac and cheese, and cabbage - thoroughly enjoyed all. Will be back again..!

This restaurant was a rare find in this area of Virginia!!! The curry shrimp made me think of home so hard I shed a tear. It was sooooo good. The oxtail was fall off the bone good. The Rasta pasta was everything and more. The restaurant is clean, the staff friendly, the food delicious!!! Highly recommend. Check it out when you get a chance.

We visited Pimenta while seeking lunch in historic Fredericksburg, and it turned out to be a great spot for Jamaican eats! Although I am not all that much familiar with Jamaican cuisine, it made me want more. We didn't know where to eat since there were so many dining options around. But Pimenta seemed intriguing, as we don't often eat Jamaican food. Plus, the positive Yelp reviews urged us to come here. We visited on a weekday and had the whole place to ourselves for dining in. The special of the day was a chicken stew in brown sauce, which my boyfriend ended up ordering. I had the jerk chicken. And for both of our entrees, we were able to pick two sides each, which we ended up sharing. We had the plantains, mac and cheese, rice with peas and Dunn's river beans. For a drink, I ordered a painkiler cocktail. It didn't take long for our food to arrive and everything was fantastic! We both enjoyed our food, but I can't tell if I liked the protein best or the different sides! All of the sides were really good, and would recommend to do what we did and share all the sides with a loved one, so you can try four instead of two! The plantains are best to be eaten last, like a dessert! The jerk chicken was tender and flavorful, so it didn't need as much sauce as it had on it. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken stew in brown sauce, which I had a bite of and liked. Service was awesome here. Our server was very friendly and checked in with us throughout our meal. When he asked if I needed hot sauce and said I did, he brought out four different hot sauces! If that's not going above and beyond then I don't know what is. I recommend trying out Pimenta for delicious, hearty Jamaican dishes and a cocktail list that will you have tipsy.

I've dined here twice and have been satisfied each time. This most recent visit is what encouraged me to finally write a review. What was it you ask... reservations!! I had a different restaurant in mind but called and told they didn't make reservations but around 5pm should be no issue seating two people. So we drive "farther south" for dinner and entered the restaurant only to be told the wait was 1.5 hours. What a bummer. Now it's Yelp to the rescue because, after all.. I don't frequent this town much. The useful cross reference app came in handy when I noticed that Pimenta was listed and was available for 5:15. At this point, dining somewhere new was out the question because of time so here we go. Pimenta was nearly 1.5 miles from the original restaurant, amble street parking was available. It was obvious the reservations is new because it somewhat threw off the staff member who was surprised to see it pop up on their screen. After being seated it took a longer while to order food (20 mins or so) but it appeared they make have been short of staff. Nonetheless, the server was friendly, attentive, and ensured us that we would have our food in time to make the upcoming event. The atmosphere is relaxing. The music is at a perfect level for conversation. The decor is inviting and simple. There is a small bar area near the entrance but I have not tried any cocktails or drinks. There is another section where people were exiting with instruments and band equipment. It appears there is live music at times which is unfortunate to have missed. Who doesn't love live music. The food arrived and it was hot, flavorful, and nicely plated. The jerk shrimp was spicy and seasoned to perfection. The curry shrimp was just the same. The cabbage was better the last time I dined here but still good. The egg rolls wasn't my favorite only because of the crust but the veggies inside were tasty. I've backed away from bread but having not eaten coco bread before I tried it and did not notice anything that stood out from any other bread. Now that Pimenta has reservations which is so convenient when traveling down to dine, it will definitely be revisited.

I dined here on 7/16/2022. The food was amazing and the flavors authentic. There were four of us we ordered curry chicken, oxtails and jerk shrimp. My cousin order a salad, counch fritters, rice and peas, and a beef patty. We all had cabbage which was sliced and cooked to perfection. It was nice to sit in the window and enjoy a good meal. The restaurant was clean. The staff were very nice and very accommodating. Next time we are in town I can't wait to dine here.

I had just come from a hair appointment down the street and on my way back to my car, I noticed Sangria advertised on the mini sandwich board outside. I'm a HUGE fan of a glass of fruity Sangria on a hot day! The fact that it was Happy Hour with $5 glasses made it even easier to draw me inside!! When I explained this was my first visit, they explained the Curio concept, the various areas for sitting, sipping and gathering as well as the Curio Card process. They even had a small but really intriguing menu of various snacks, from charcuterie to flatbread and even dessert. The menu changes a couple times a month, making me want to plan more visits! The staff offered me sips of each so I could decide on a Sangria flavor. Despite not being a Moscato fan, I chose the Moscato Mule Sangria. It was light, refreshing and had the Moscow Mule flavors with the added sweetness of Moscato wine. I wandered into the cellar to explore more wine offerings and wound up running into fellow educators and their friends I had never met. We chatted like we were catching up and laughed about shared birthdays and teaching!! They invited me to hang with them, but I had to get home for Dog Mom Duty. We exchanged numbers so we could plan another "run-in" downtown SOON! If you haven't visited Curio, I HIGHLY recommend it. Bring a friend, or plan on making a few. Next time, I'll be ordering food with my wine and lingering much longer! Thanks for a great end to my week. See y'all soon! Cheers!

Upon entering, I informed the hostess that I had a reservation, and I was then escorted to my table. Shortly thereafter, Trevor came over to introduce himself. I advised him that Merlot is my preferred wine, and he graciously showed me the available Merlot selections. I chose a half-bottle of Duckhorn. For my meal, Trevor recommended the steak and the soup. Both were delicious. The soup was excellent, and the mashed potatoes were clearly homemade, which was a nice touch. My only disappointment was that the steak was heavily charred--almost blackened. I was also surprised that the entrée was not accompanied by a vegetable. Despite those minor shortcomings, the meal was delicious, and Trevor provided excellent service throughout the evening. In fact, I suspect that because of the overly charred steak, the restaurant generously comped my coffee, which was a very thoughtful gesture. Overall, this was a very enjoyable dining experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and Trevor's knowledge and attentiveness contributed significantly to my positive experience.

We were seated promptly, no awkward hovering, and our waitress showed up friendly, sharp, and knowing her way around the menu--which is a quality that ought to be listed right next to "clean silverware." We started with the crab and corn chowder, and let me say this right now: the crab was not there for decoration. It announced itself. Big flavor, no apologies, the way crab chowder ought to be. Second round was the smoked salmon salad. Perfect. The salmon was excellent, but that tarragon caper dressing had a way of making you slow down and think about life choices. I would put that dressing on just about anything that didn't move fast enough. For the main event, I chose the scallops, and I am prepared to testify they were as good as any I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, sitting pretty with an aioli that knew its job and did it well. My wife ordered the beef medallions, and I'll admit this with humility: looking back, I may have chosen wrong. Those medallions were expertly prepared and packed with flavor, the kind that makes you reconsider your own plate. We finished with cheesecake and berries. The cheesecake did its part. The berries... well, not every inning is a home run. Fortunately, the wine stepped in like a good relief pitcher and made everything right again. Through it all, the service never slipped. We were treated the way folks ought to be treated when they go out to celebrate something that matters. And that, in my book, counts just as much as what's on the plate. Around 1:30 p.m., we realized our food still had not come out, while other tables being served by our waitress were receiving prompt and friendly service. Our waitress passed our table four times without stopping to provide an update on our food or apologize for the extensive wait time. We were finally able to get her attention and politely asked about the status of our order. Without an apology or acknowledgment of our experience, she responded that she would tell the chefs to "rush" our order. We never asked for our food to be rushed -- we simply wanted an update because we had already been waiting far longer than expected. When our food was eventually brought out by another staff member, it was cold after nearly two hours of waiting. At that point, my husband asked to speak with the manager because not only was the wait time unacceptable, but the food was also cold. The manager eventually came to our table, apologized for the delay, and offered to discount the meal. My husband thanked him for the apology, but by that point, we decided the experience was not worth salvaging. We told the manager we did not want the cold food or watered-down drinks. Not only was our Mother's Day celebration ruined, but the lack of accountability from the staff and the poor customer service made the entire experience extremely disappointing.
