We started with the bread assortment, which included flatbreads, rolls, dipping sauces, and butter. We also tried the fried artichoke leaves--they were perfectly crisp, tender, and delicious. For my entrée, I had the branzino with crispy skin, and it was cooked to perfection. The combination of lemon, herbs, and capers worked beautifully, and the fish practically melted in your mouth. They just opened and are still working out a few of the inevitable kinks that come with a new restaurant, but when it comes to the food, they absolutely hit the bullseye. Definitely worth checking out.

I had just come from a hair appointment down the street and on my way back to my car, I noticed Sangria advertised on the mini sandwich board outside. I'm a HUGE fan of a glass of fruity Sangria on a hot day! The fact that it was Happy Hour with $5 glasses made it even easier to draw me inside!! When I explained this was my first visit, they explained the Curio concept, the various areas for sitting, sipping and gathering as well as the Curio Card process. They even had a small but really intriguing menu of various snacks, from charcuterie to flatbread and even dessert. The menu changes a couple times a month, making me want to plan more visits! The staff offered me sips of each so I could decide on a Sangria flavor. Despite not being a Moscato fan, I chose the Moscato Mule Sangria. It was light, refreshing and had the Moscow Mule flavors with the added sweetness of Moscato wine. I wandered into the cellar to explore more wine offerings and wound up running into fellow educators and their friends I had never met. We chatted like we were catching up and laughed about shared birthdays and teaching!! They invited me to hang with them, but I had to get home for Dog Mom Duty. We exchanged numbers so we could plan another "run-in" downtown SOON! If you haven't visited Curio, I HIGHLY recommend it. Bring a friend, or plan on making a few. We started with the crab and corn chowder, and let me say this right now: the crab was not there for decoration. It announced itself. Big flavor, no apologies, the way crab chowder ought to be. Second round was the smoked salmon salad. Perfect. The salmon was excellent, but that tarragon caper dressing had a way of making you slow down and think about life choices. I would put that dressing on just about anything that didn't move fast enough. For the main event, I chose the scallops, and I am prepared to testify they were as good as any I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, sitting pretty with an aioli that knew its job and did it well. My wife ordered the beef medallions, and I'll admit this with humility: looking back, I may have chosen wrong. Those medallions were expertly prepared and packed with flavor, the kind that makes you reconsider your own plate. We finished with cheesecake and berries. The cheesecake did its part. The berries... well, not every inning is a home run. Fortunately, the wine stepped in like a good relief pitcher and made everything right again. Through it all, the service never slipped. We were treated the way folks ought to be treated when they go out to celebrate something that matters. And that, in my book, counts just as much as what's on the plate. At 12:25 p.m., the hostess informed us they were catching up on tables but that we would be seated soon. At 12:30 p.m., we were finally seated. Our waitress did not greet us warmly, make eye contact, introduce herself, or provide any information about the restaurant or menu. At 12:45 p.m., we ordered our food and drinks, and at 12:50 p.m., our drinks arrived. Around 1:30 p.m., we realized our food still had not come out, while other tables being served by our waitress were receiving prompt and friendly service. Our waitress passed our table four times without stopping to provide an update on our food or apologize for the extensive wait time. We were finally able to get her attention and politely asked about the status of our order. Without an apology or acknowledgment of our experience, she responded that she would tell the chefs to "rush" our order. We never asked for our food to be rushed -- we simply wanted an update because we had already been waiting far longer than expected. When our food was eventually brought out by another staff member, it was cold after nearly two hours of waiting. At that point, my husband asked to speak with the manager because not only was the wait time unacceptable, but the food was also cold. The manager eventually came to our table, apologized for the delay, and offered to discount the meal. My husband thanked him for the apology, but by that point, we decided the experience was not worth salvaging. We told the manager we did not want the cold food or watered-down drinks. Not only was our Mother's Day celebration ruined, but the lack of accountability from the staff and the poor customer service made the entire experience extremely disappointing. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!

I tried the Tomahawk pork chop recently and it was delicious and a generous amount of food. Most steak places also know how to properly cook fish and the Salmon is always very good here. The three course meal deal is a good value if you are hungry and the dessert is a full size. It genuinely felt like there were some kind of air-conditioning issues happening, which already made sitting through dinner uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the service didn't make the experience any better. Our server, Diego, seemed annoyed from the very beginning. Maybe he was overworked or having a rough night, but he came across as unfriendly and irritated by fairly normal questions. We ordered a good variety for the table, including the deviled eggs, ranch onion rings, meatloaf, penne with steak, and chimichurri shrimp with mashed potatoes. When I asked whether the quinoa that came with a possible dish I was looking at, could be substituted for something else, Diego responded that it was "good for me" and that I should get it. That wasn't what I asked, and the response felt unnecessarily snarky. Then there was the margarita. Why are we putting regular table salt on the rim of a margarita? It may sound like a small detail, but at this price point and level of restaurant, the details matter. It just felt sloppy. The biggest issue, however, was my chimichurri shrimp. After cutting into one, I realized it was raw. Not slightly underdone. Raw. Eventually Diego came back around and I let him know. He took the plate away, but it took roughly another 30 minutes for the replacement shrimp to arrive. By that point, every single person I was dining with had finished their meal. I essentially sat there while my friends ate and then received my food after dinner was already over. What shocked me even more was that the meal wasn't comped. There was no meaningful attempt to make the situation right despite serving raw seafood and then taking another half hour to replace it. Mistakes happen in restaurants. Kitchens get backed up, servers have bad nights, and food occasionally needs to be remade. What separates a good restaurant from a disappointing one is how those mistakes are handled. Serving raw shrimp, leaving a guest without their meal while the rest of the table finishes, and then charging full price as though nothing happened is not good hospitality. Between the uncomfortable heat, dismissive service, questionable attention to detail, raw food, and the way the situation was ultimately handled, this completely put a damper on what was supposed to be a fun Friday night out with friends. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark in too many ways for me to overlook.

My wife grabbed the Newton Cosmo, which, while delicious, was too sweet for her, and James took it back and got her a mint julep instead for no charge. For dinner she had the Caesar wedge salad with a rare steak, I had the Ramsay Bolton burger. Both delicious and portions are incredible, especially for the price. Also asked James for a bourbon flight after dinner. He listened to what bourbons I had tried before and promptly recommended a flight and how to go about tasting it.
