We decided on Pilgreen's to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was just the two of us and there was no wait and got seated right away. Our waiter came over and was very nice and gave us the info on the birthday discount. That was a nice surprise. We got an appetizer of fried mushrooms and cauliflower- it was nice and crispy but not worth $15. I ordered the beef kabobs MW and the came out MRare, I couldn't eat it so I got it to go so I could cook it more at home. The baked potatoes good and the salad was bagged lettuce- disappointing. My husband ordered fried sirloin with gravy and mashed potatoes. The meat was ok until it was dipped completely in some brown gravy that was at best canned or in a jar. The mashed potatoes plain but tasted ok. Service was good but I think that might be our last time giving it a try and I hate that cause it's literally 5 miles from our house. read more

This is an old school restaurant that's been around for years. The food is good not great. I have been there several times, and the staff is excellent. The steaks are what you would expect for the price paid. I would say they mirror the quality of Texas Roadhouse, Longhorns. They do chicken really well. and their tenders are a cut above along with their kabobs. Ambience is mediocre. The place has potential but is in need of a renovation. Oh, I need to mention the onion rings aka Rips Rings. If you love onion rings, these baby's are truly the best that I have ever had. This is a must! All in all, you will get a good meal and service for the money. If you are looking for great, you will need to go to Atlanta and fight the traffic and high prices. read more

We went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. First of all thus place is huge! They were extremely busy. Also they don't open the doors until 5pm. So when you arrive b4 5pm there are a lot of people waiting in cars til it opens. So be ready for that. The prices are pretty reasonable and they do not charge gratuity automatically like many other restaurants do. So we at the table ordered the 3 combo appetizers which included fried cauliflower, fried mushrooms, and fried onion rings. I really enjoyed the cauliflower and onion rings. The fried mushrooms were very very greasy. The vegetables were also very bland but I still liked them. For my meal, I ordered the Loaded Chicken. It came with grilled onions, bacon, and cheese on top. It was moist and flavorful. The other ladies ordered the seafood platter to with they said it was very greasy. We had to call the manager about the food. In my opinion she did not handle our situation with any type of grace. She was not apologetic AT ALL. That left a very bad taste in my mouth. Pilgreens is an old school Henry county staple and there not many places like it left! We walked right in on a weeknight evening. No reservation needed we were seated right away with no wait. We had a table with a great view of the pool, lake, and tennis courts! We started with the friend cauliflower which came highly recommended. The fried cauliflower is so good you forget you're eating cauliflower! We each ordered the seafood platters as our entree. Our server was excellent she made accommodations for the variations we all wanted to the seafood platter! The stuffed crab, the shrimp, and the fish filet were all excellent! The shrimp had that fresh Georgia shrimp taste that you only get when it's fresh! Can't say enough good things about our server! She was attentive and friendly! We never went without! Our waitress for my party of 14 was ther bomb! We ordered everything from fried chicken to pork chops to steaks. Two of the steaks had to be sent back since they weren't cooked medium like we like. The waitress quickly apologized and the next order was excellent! The cheesesteak was delicious. We ordered onion rings, chicken fingers, and mushrooms for appetizers and they came out hot! Make sure to ask for any sauces since they didn't seem to bring them out unless you ask (like honey mustard, or any dipping sauce for the mushrooms and onion rings). They don't take reservations so we got there at 5:15 on a Saturday when they opened and we still had to wait over an hour. Extremely disappointing experience. The Bacon & Cheddar Tots were a joke. Less than a slice of cheese and the bacon was processed. The wine tasted like vinegar. The Caesar salad was wilted chopped romaine with Kraft tasting salad dressing and a couple of rock hard croutons. Had to send 3 steaks back because they couldn't do medium rare. That combined with being the toughest $24.95 Ribeye was crazy. Do yourself a favor and go to Huddle House. You'll find better food. This restaurant has the worst all-around customer service & management I have ever experienced. I cannot tell you about the food, because we never got ours. Our party of 3 (on my mom's birthday) ordered a steak, chicken fingers and a salad. Not a complicated order. At the 1 hour mark, we still had not received our food. With no dinner in sight, we told our server to cancel our order & bring the check for our drinks & appetizer. At that point, the manager/owner (Sharon) rushed over and said we couldn't leave, because our meal was coming right out. I told her we had been waiting an hour. She barked that the ticket said the order was put in at 7:05 pm. I told her no, we had ordered at 6:15 pm. She barked at me again, louder: "The ticket shows you ordered 7:05!!" She then handed me the check. I asked her, "Do you think I'm lying to you?!" She didn't respond, she just sneered at me. The server, who knew when our order was put in, was standing in front of her, but she didn't ask him. Having worked as a server, we were drilled that the customer is always right, even when they're wrong. I was stunned at her attitude. She snatched the check from me acting like she was the wronged party - not me and my parents who had waited an hour for a steak, chicken fingers and a salad that still hadn't come. Been a long timer eater at the various Pilgreens locations since the 80s, as a child, and glad to say they still got it! Love this location, as it has an enclosed bar area that allows smoking. The bartender was my waitress as well and she was very attentive and kind. The food was great! Just a quick tip: if you order steaks, tell them to char grill it. My first time at Pilgreen's since so many people recommend this place. The restaurant is claimed to be on the water. It's not on the water but very close by to the lake. My first impression was that the building needed to be renovated and updates were needed to be made. Looks like no updates have been made since opened in 1930's. They are known for their steaks and unfortunately I didn't get to try it. Our food was nothing special. Mediocre. Our waitress was very attentive and had great customer service skills. The bar has its own closed off section that is completely done In wood. Looks like an old fashion study. You can also smoke in there which I thought was cool. At their recommendation, tried Garzongola something or other salad dressing. They do not bother to tell you it is extra. Same thing with baked potato, cheese and bacon extra. Potato way overdone. Wife got Ribeye. Cooked perfectly but sub prime meat for sure. Now to the senior special. 25% off entree IF you order a drink. No one told us this earlier. So, we both ordered coffee. When our bill came. We were told ribeye not "eligible " for senior discount. Wtf? I guess they figure when you 60, teeth are no good anymore. Seems there were some other hidden gems but being a senior, it slips my mind. Really, the only good thing about the meal was our server, Morgan. She did a wonderful job. We arrived at Pilgreen's at Lake Dow at about 5:05pm on Saturday February 25, 2023 to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We checked in and my son-in-law told the host we had 4 adults and needed a highchair,the host said so a table for 5, he said no a table for 4 with a highchair. We waited for 45 minutes while there were MANY OPEN tables! When my SIL inquired about the open tables the host said "It doesn't matter if there's open tables"! We waited about 15 more minutes and he seated us. Our waitress was wonderful but I can't remember her name. She got a GREAT tip though. It wasn't her fault that the baked potatoes were to cold to melt the butter or my chicken was dry. The host came over twice the first time he said " Just wondering if you have your food yet,we just got our salads and appetizers, he came over again just as we were finishing up and said something else that gave us all the feeling he was rushing us as he did NOT speak to any table next to us. This is the fist time we've been to Pilgreen's in a few years and I can promise you it will be THE LAST! Growing up in Stockbridge the original Pilgreen's and Lake Dow was always the GO TO for family celebrations until Covid and we stopped going out so much.
