This is order at counter and food will be brought to you at smaller tiny establishment and don't forget to grab your drink in the refrigerator. I love barbecue. Doesn't matter if it's Texas, Kansas City, Memphis, or St. Louis. I'm equally as fond of Carolina mustard sauce as I am Alabama white, and I consider myself a fairly good judge of meat, sauce, and the cook as well, so when I saw a sign for BBQ just a half hour outside of New York City, I should have known better. I told myself "Self" I said, "There's no way this NY BBQ is gonna be good." but I didn't listen... I should have listened... Walking in, we waited to be greeted, but when nothing happened for a few minutes we sat ourselves, which prompted a response by way of the hostess to tell us we had to move, that table was reserved. Eventually we got seated and handed a menu. We ordered a Box #2, which is 2 meats and 2 sides and we got a slice of cornbread to start, then came the food. - Cornbread. This was apparently foreshadowing for the whole meal. Dry and tasteless, it had a weird honey-esque drizzle across the top, but a box of expired dollar store Jiffy mix would have been better. We asked for butter, which of course came out cold and hard. We probably should have called it quits right there but we were hungry and how bad could it be? ** We found out ** - Brisket. We asked for fatty (who wouldn't?) and got the dryest, toughest, slices of meat ever. Looking at the pic, you can see even on a white plate there's absolutely no juice in this meat, and no flavor either, it had to be doused with sauce to be edible. - Burnt Ends had a decent crust, but again, meat so dry it could choke you and so tasteless you wished it would. Again, look for juice in that photo, you won't find it. - Cole Slaw was colorful and crisp but fairly bland. Semi sweet ISH would be the closest flavor profile I could find up with. - Homemade Pickles were actually good, but sadly they weren't enough to save this meal. We were recommended this bbq spot by our neighbors and went because they had two small tables which we needed due to visiting with our pups. They kindly brought out an extra chair for us as we were 5 humans plus 2 dogs. The bbq sauce was less impressive than I'd been told. I expected a homemade taste but this tasted like sauce I could have gotten at the market. The brisket was tender but needed the sauce. It was not the best I've tasted and didn't have much of a smoke flavor. The wings though were fire. The jerk sauce again missed the mark. We got a loaf of corn bread to share but it was kind of dry and wasn't the amazing treat I hoped for. The sides were small and stingy, tbh. I did like the pickles a lot. Also, I had asked for extra sauce but they didn't put sauce on it and we had to wait for bbq sauce to be brought out. Also they didn't remember we were sitting outside so each member of our party ended up having to point out that we were sitting outside. Understandable because they were pretty darn busy! I am an enthusiast of mint and decided to try this sister company from owners suggestion. Absolutely impressed with the quality of food and service. The brisket sandwich was tender, savory, with a hint of sweet bbq saucesauce. The Mac was gooey, but needs pepper (of course), the collard greens were nostalgic. The biscuit was divinely familiar. I'm not sure what happened to this place. I came here a few years ago and had the perfect tender smokey brisket, burnt ends, and ribs that I had been thinking about ever since. Yesterday I repeated the same order and got tough meat that tasted like it had just been cooked in the oven and not smoked. The burnt ends were chunks of inedible chewy fat. This was my first time back in over a year and this place never disappoints! The space isn't very big so you need to make a reservation or come during off-peak hours if you want a table. The service is quick and the staff is friendly. You order your food at the counter and then it's brought out to your table. I had the Texan sandwich and it was so good. The brisket was tender and flavorful. It could've used more sauce, but I added a little bbq sauce and it was perfect. The Mac 'N cheese, potato salad and cornbread were the best sides. I'm only basing this review on what I ordered and what I saw as I waited. This is mediocre, criminally overpriced "barbecue". I got the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich for $17, which somehow does not include a side w it, not even a measly ramekin of coleslaw. From the ones I saw displayed, though, the sides did not look very appetizing, to be honest. The sandwich itself was underwhelming, and it wasn't the NHC we've all come to know and love; this version was SLATHERED in a very generic, tepid "spicy" bbq sauce. I asked for a side of the "house bbq" sauce, and it was definitely not homemade; either Stubb's or KC Masterpiece if I had to guess. But the absolute worst part of the sandwich was that the chicken breasts were not fresh. The consistency was that of a cheap piece of grainy, chewy chicken, and I'm guessing they were previously frozen (and definitely not organic, but I don't know if they make that claim, to be fair). I wanted to get a sampler of their ribs and brisket, but was dissuaded because the only way you could do so was if you ordered a 1/2 lb each two-meat combo plate...for almost $55! I've never seen bbq prices THAT high, and I've been to a lot of spots across the country, ranging from world-famous to local, mom- & pop-owned. I love the customer service if this spot. The spot is small and cozy. You walk in and you are handed a paper menu. You then place your order at the counter. I ordered the wings(plain), mac n cheese, ribs, fry chicken, cole slaw, peach cobbler. Wings -ok. 7/10. Mac n cheese- 5/10 needed seasoning. Very bland but creamy. Ribs- 7/10 no smoke flavor, soft, juicy, not very flavorful. Fry chicken 5/10:- done to order. Smelt very good but was only that smell. Really great bbq flavor! I had one of the sandwiches (I believe it was brisket). The smokiness and tenderness of the meat was great! The overall look and cleanliness of the restaurant were okay -- acceptable at best. But from the moment we started ordering, it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. Everything we tried to order was "not available." It felt like the staff were forcing us to choose whatever they wanted to serve instead of what we wanted. We ordered three appetizers and two main dishes. The first plate arrived 20 minutes later -- and it was one of the main courses! Then, as they dropped it off, the server casually said the other main dish was sold out and asked me to pick something else. Unbelievable -- and not even a hint of embarrassment! What followed was total chaos. The servers were walking around the restaurant with plates, asking random tables if the dish belonged to them -- including ours. Every single dish we ordered arrived late, out of order, and by a different person. I've never seen such a level of service incompetence in any restaurant in the U.S. If I could give the servers negative five stars, I would. As for the food -- by the time it arrived, I was too frustrated to even enjoy it. The flavors were okay, but nowhere near enough to make up for the experience. I did not expect much from this tiny bbq joint. We ended up here bc it was one of the few places that had reservations left before a show we were seeing at the music hall up the block. The food was very good, and the staff was friendly. I do wish the menu had smaller combo plates. I ended up ordering an appetizer 1/4 rack of ribs plus a side a la carte. If they had a smaller size combo plate option (in addition to the big ones listed) I think that would be ideal. I also think the menu could use a lighter salad - even the kale one I ordered had a bit too much of the very sweet dressing. I'll start with the food: it's okay, not great. The wings are dry; the ribs - meat is excellent, but they're spicy. The messy brisket sandwich is good, while the pork PLT has no flavor -they use a watery Russian dressing - and the skin is practically impossible to chew through. The sides we had - Cole slaw and Brussel sprouts- were fine but unexceptional. I would comment on the potato salad, but we didn't actually get any, though we ordered and paid for it, and it was checked off on the list of items put in our takeout bag. The pricing seems a bit off as well. The boxes are just a meat plus sides, but it's a dollar cheaper to order ribs and two sides than the box that has ribs and two sides. Normally you would expect it to be cheaper when you order more/a set. The service is fine if, again, unexceptional. I was the third one there after opening, and by the time I got our food the other two people- one single, one group of three - were almost finished their meals. Amazing for sure! On a recommendation from someone, I had a very poor experience with a barbecue vendor for my daughter's college graduation. And after 2 months of no return calls and poor business practice, I pretty much told them where to go with just 2 weeks before the party (panic set in). My nephew recommended trying Pik Nik BBQ. He had eaten there and said it was really good. So, on blind faith, I emailed them and was called back by the owner, this lovely woman named Alberta. This was a whole new experience from the last. She took the time to explain her catering, gave suggestions and responded to emails and text in timely manner. This is what I call great customer service. How could I go wrong? Well...the food came and as she promised, it was AMAZING! The wing, brisket and ribs were show stoppers. And the cornbread, slaw, potato salad and Mac and cheese were delicious. Alberta personally came to deliver along with one of the staff. She bought multiple sauces, as I asked for all the meet dry so everyone could pick their own flavor and heat. Also sent a tub of honey for the cornbread. They were there on time and then set up all the food on my racks and off they went. I received many compliments on the food. No one went home hungry and the college kids were grazing till the wee hours! And there was still plenty leftover food for another meal (or two)! PikNik is Tarrytown's resident BBQ restaurant, and unlike most northern BBQ places it doesn't disappoint. They smoke everything fresh everyday and it shows. It's just a small place more oriented towards takeout, although there are a few tables. Service has always been friendly and also prompt in terms of takeout. Prices are a little high for my taste, but hey that's Tarrytown. Pulled pork was great; full of smoky flavor and with a generous portion. Brisket and ribs are almost must-haves, as is the chicken wings (Carolina Mustard) according to my wife. Burnt ends were just ok--on the fatty side as they weren't burnt enough (ironic). BBQ isn't a revelation but it is solid. In terms of sides, mac and cheese, collard greens (non-traditional), pickles and potato salad are the best bets. Cole slaw and fries are solid too. Cornbread is just alright as it's on the greasy side; not sure why they pre-slather it with butter. Similar goes for the sweet potato wedges, which are good but don't need the honey they're covered with. Brussel sprouts were nasty the one time I got them. Great to have high quality barbeque nearby. After a long four plus hour drive to Tarrytown for business I looked up local restaurants and thought to myself, can't go wrong with bbq! I ordered the fried free chicken sandwich (no tarter sauce), 1/2 lb of brisket and bread pudding. Food is never great to go so the scale varies but the brisket was good (bbq sauce may not be for everyone, very distinct), chicken sandwich was good (chipotle sauce may not be for everyone, very distinct) and the bread pudding was too wet for me. Pik Nik catered my husband's 40th birthday, and the whole process was a dream. First of all, the food is truly amazing. We used to live near Dinosaur in Harlem, and Pik Nik is better. We'd had basically the entire menu, but the ribs, pulled pork, and pastrami are standouts. For sides, I love the baked beans and the mac n cheese. All off-the-charts flavorful, and the meats are cooked perfectly. In terms of the party, Alberta was lovely to work with. She was communicative throughout the process of choosing a menu, setting up a delivery time, etc. She and an employee personally delivered the food, got us set up with chafing dishes and sternos, and then picked everything up at the end of the party (and they were flexible about the pickup time, which I really appreciated). Take a second to read my initial review. So as promised, I go back and despite the temptation to order the daily special of pastrami, I stick with my gut and order the ribs. Cut to the chase...these are some of the best ribs I've ever, REPEAT EVER, had. Meaty and oh so tender. You look at them the wrong way and the meat falls off the bone. The best tasting ribs I've ever had. The meat fell right off the bone and had a nice buttery texture. Same with the pulled pork--best I've ever had. The sauces were a perfect compliment. I ordered French fries for the side and they're decent. The country biscuit is amazing and would recommend that. The baked beans and sausage are alright. The cornbread is mediocre. Cute but very busy bbq joint in tarrytown, near sleepy hollow. They sell out often, so need to go here as your stop over. We went for early dinner (5pm) they were sold out on a lot of their meat items for that day already. Tried wings and pulled pork. Pulled pork was good, juicy and tender, but wing was way too sweet for our taste. Maybe have the sauce on the side. Their coleslaw is one of the freshest I've tasted, not soggy and drenched in sugar type, but crispy and seasoned just enough. Sweet potato wedges are also really good. Must go spot. read more

This restaurant feels cramped. Moreover, sitting near their heat lamp is not enjoyable, especially on a hot day. The food is ordered at a counter, which is fine by me, and common at bbq restaurants. While the meats are selected by weight (as they should be), this restaurant is too inflexible on how you can order. For example, they offer lean or fattier brisket or "in between" by the 1/2 pound. I asked for 1/4 pound of lean and 1/4 pound of fattier. But I was told I cannot do that. The young lady at the counter was curt about it too. I then asked for the "in between" and was told they aren't serving that right now. So...I begrudgingly went with 1/2 pound fattier, which is the marbly point of the brisket. I'm guessing they don't slice to order, which is a no-no in my book of brisket. This probably accounts for why one can only order by the 1/2 pound. Also, I prefer standard pencil thick slices of brisket neatly presented overlapping on a tray. Pik Nik served it as if it was carved up by a spoon. They also put a Korean twist on it all with sliced ginger and pickled onion. But the latter is inventive, and I liked this international touch. And in truth, the brisket was tastier than it looked, so this was an obvious plus. It had a nice bark. It was also moist and seasoned well. The pulled pork was a little dry but "okay" overall. The mac n cheese was surprisingly excellent. I was unable to sample the ribs because they were sold out, which I cannot fault them for late in the day. I did see some ribs on other tables though. Unfortunately, they looked quite dry and overcooked. However, because I didn't eat them, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. All in all, Pik Nik is a decent and satisfactory restaurant, at least for Northern BBQ. It's better for takeout though. I would also not consider this a destination place. I was first altered to Pik Nik BBQ some time ago through my brother. While I can take or leave BBQ and Southern food in general, I'm always looking for new places to try and to support local businesses - so I made it my intention to check this place out. I got that opportunity the other day when my brother chose to takeout from Pik Nik for his birthday dinner. Pik Nik sits on Main Street, nestled among a number of other businesses in the main commercial hub of Tarrytown. Because of COVID-19, they are mostly doing takeout - though I did notice a couple of tables set up for outdoor dining. They're doing all ordering and pickups at the door, but from what I could see the inside is small - hence indoor dining wouldn't really be feasible for them. The menu has a nice selection - lots of meats to choose from as well as a good variety of sides. I noticed that they had "boxes" which included a protein and choice of two sides. That seemed to make the most sense for us to order, so I decided on their pulled pork box and chose sides of cucumber with fennel and potato salad with bacon. We called early in the afternoon and gave them a pickup time later on which worked out great. The pulled pork was really tasty - they gave a generous portion and was seasoned well. I've found that pulled pork can be dry at times, but I did not find that at all here. The sides were also good - the potato salad had a cream base but wasn't gloppy; the potatoes remained intact and the bacon was the icing on the cake. The cucumber with fennel was a nice contrast to the potato salad and added a sharp, fresh taste to the box. We also ordered some cornbread and mac & cheese to share. The cornbread was pretty good and had a nice sweetness to it. The mac & cheese was nice and creamy with sharp, almost mild heat element to it. Service was great - the food was ready at the promised time and everything was packed neatly. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Pik Nik BBQ; they provide an expansive menu with great service, and really deliver the goods as a whole. While I never really crave BBQ, I would definitely return here if I get an inkling for it. read more

My family stopped by Pik Nik BBQ for lunch while visiting Valhalla. We drove into Tarrytown for some window shopping and wanted to find a place for lunch. Great choice. We had a variety of BBQ and it was all delicious. We were served by Emily who was friendly, gave us some great suggestions for lunch and was simply a nice person working hard at the place.
