It had been about 5 years since I had been to Piggie Park and I was pleasantly surprised by how much the food has improved from 2016 to 2021. Food: The onion rings were just about perfect. Perfect batter and perfect brownness, the chicken sandwich was amazing surprise as I didn't expect it to be anywhere near that level of yummy goodness. Heck, Piggie Park's chicken sandwich might get Popeyes a run for their money. My parents had the hamburger and according to them it was great and they loved the loose meat instead of a solid patty. Service: The service was exceptional except for two aspects -- I got sweet tea instead of unsweet and had to ask for the correct drink and didn't automatically receive condiments and napkins. However, that could be Covid related so it wasn't a huge deal as I got them when I asked for them. Also, years ago the hot dog had a toasted bun and was served with lettuce and tomato. Soooo, piggy park. I've been to Thomaston about 10 times in the last 3 years and from day one, people said to try this place out. They say it was good. Reviews say it was good. So I finally decided, this is the day. OMG, what a disappointment. We ordered the BBQ and the cheese burger. Not at all what I was expecting. Foods used to be really good. Now everything is greasy especially the fries. They come out of the fryer and dump in your tray and you sandwich. You ask for little onions on your meal and instead you get a bun lid filled with them. The barbecue sauce overpowers the meat even when asked to put sauce on side to put as much as we want on the meat. The only decent item is the slaw dog as long as you tell them no other condiments. Ask for mustard on your dog, and it ends up TOP of the slaw like the lid fell off the mustard jar. Tell them you want it on the dog and not happening. It's their way or forget it. This marvelous place is steeped in history as well as good flavor. It came highly recommended from new colleagues and staff at the office for it's delicious hamburgers and BBQ, but I'm very particular about my BBQ and always have to try the BBQ sandwich first at any BBQ restaurant that is new to me. It was delicious but lacked enough sauce for me. I think if they put a little more of that delightful sauce on it it would be a winner. They did not add coleslaw to the sandwich and the meat is truly pulled. I also tried a Grilled Cheese sandwich, which they label as "Toasted Cheese," and it was only missing some warm tomato soup as an accompaniment. Amazing hamburgers...loose parties with an onion flavor (but they're so fine you can't really tell they're there)...the burgers come with lettuce and BBQ sauce (sounds weird, but oh so good!) The chili dogs are great, but it's the hamburgers that keep me coming back. They serve thin, shoe-string type fries that are fantastic. Flaky ice in the cokes...and my mom swears the milkshakes are wonderful. If you are EVER in or even near Thomaston, it is definitely worth the trip. If you want to know how NOT to manage your brand, this is the PERFECT example! What a DUMP! This was once the go to place in Thomaston and the surrounding 2-3 county area. NOT anymore! I went last week and was NOT impressed! The food isn't what it once (but still ok) was and the overall appearance is dreadful! Don't expect any napkins without asking! Piggy Park Since 1951 . . . they haven't done much to it since then! I saw bare wires hanging from the rafters, the menu boards are falling apart, you can barely understand when ordering due to the poor speakers, the parking lot (and surrounding area) was full of trash and is in bad need of sealing and remarking. The whole place looks like it needs pressure washing and a fresh coat of paint. There are LITERALLY 10's of thousands of cars that pass by on Hwy 19 on a daily basis and I bet 99% don't stop. It just looks like a DUMP! I took my wife and she didn't want to eat there. She said "if the kitchen is as dirty as the rest of the place we may get food poisoning!" I'm assuming the same family owns it but I don't understand how you can NOT invest back in to your brand. I remember about 10 years ago they got new menu boards and painted the poles red. THAT was it! This place is in need of a SERIOUS makeover. And to be honest, it would probably be cheaper to just bulldoze it and start over! Seriously Pasley family, you have the $$! Remodel this place and make it what it once was. I drove from Peachtree City and was excited to share this with my new wife. Not BBQ proper but more authentic than other corporate establishments (and they put a slice of pickle on the BBQ). This place has been around for years. They sell BBQ by the pound too and proper milkshakes. It's a drive-in. You can eat on a tray provided in your car. So old school! I've had that meal about once a month for 35 of my years on earth and can honestly say, if given the choice, it'd be my last chosen meal on earth.
