Belgium is internationally renowned for their chocolate. For world pastry-champion turned master chocolatier, Pierre Marcolini elevated his craft so that his brand is now synonymous with "haute chocolaterie". He put emphasis on putting a higher percentage of cocoa in a smaller piece, minimizing the sugars. He also puts emphasis in sourcing cocoa beans directly from the growers. Each piece is assembled at their factory in Brussels and delivered to their shops all around the world. I was introduced to Pierre Marcolini in Japan of all places when the No1DP gifted chocolate to me at their shop in Tokyo Station. However I didn't know about the brand all that much until I took a Beer and Chocolate Tour offered by the Brussels Journey (https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-brussels-journey-bruxelles-2?hrid=_rEIZsWrygpqHYK9wROIKQ). I guess they must be renowned if random passerby attempt to take a sample while the host was giving a lecture about the brand. She and her 2 assistants literally had to shoo quite a few people! It's really a haute chocolaterie when they're the only one in the chocolate tour that doesn't give you a 10% discount. --- A day later I went to their flagship shop. There was a really nice lady at the counter that helped me with the process of buying chocolate there. I got a variation of their signature box Malline Découverte where I was able to make a custom box. Note that this is the only option to make a custom box. The box fits around 35-40 pieces and costs €39. There were plenty of premade boxes for sale but if I was going to pay €39 for a box I might as well enjoy each piece. My favorite pieces are almost all variations of a theme as they contain something crunchy. Not a big fan of fruity chocolate in general. - Câlin fondant/lait (almond and hazelnut praline, Quimper wafers and Madagascan vanilla caramel, coated in dark or milk chocolate) - Pavé de tours fondant/lait (a crunchy blend of hazelnut and almond praline with Quimper wafers, coated in dark or milk chocolate) - Torsade (Avola almond praline gianduja with caramelized Piedmont hazelnut crisp, coated in milk chocolate) - Earl grey tea (ganache infused with subtle bergamot notes of Earl Grey, coated in milk chocolate) [NOTE: I remember this distinctly from Japan and luckily this was one of the chocolates sampled on my tour.] This is best consumed with coffee or tea. They have locations in some of the higher-end shopping districts of London, Paris, Tokyo and of course Brussels. The closest place in the US is sadly in Hawaii.

Why 3 stars? Because it just seemed a little too high-brow for us. --- --- --- Maybe a true chocolate connoisseur would scoff at my 3-star entry, but for a person who just enjoys chocolate on a very casual level, I wasn't in love with Pierre Marcolini. As soon as you walk into the shop, you feel the aura of fanciness. It's not like the hundreds of other chocolate shops littered throughout Brussels - this one is very classy. The issue is - the selection was much smaller and the prices were much higher. I never mind paying extra for the best quality, but what we got from here didn't really stand out. It was just 'okay.' We ended up walking about a mile outside of the city center to come to this location, only to discover that there were multiple locations right in the heart of everything else in Brussels, so don't make the same mistake we did if you're determined to get your hands on some Pierre Marcolini.

Top notch maccarons

Tasting some world's fine chocolate and beer was our mission in Belgium. Pierre Marcolini was one of the chocolatiers on our itinerary.  We came here after lunch so it was perfect timing for desserts. There are seatings on the 2nd floor. We tried the Desir, ice cream and maccarons. The ice cream has less calories than an apple. It was light and not very sweet. It definitely had a different texture than regular ice cream (and gelato). Maccarons were one of the best that I had. All in all, their prices were a bit high but worthed it.

Such a beautiful space. This is a must-visit place for anyone who loves chocolate. The young lady that helped us up in the chocolate tasting area was sweet and helpful. The chocolate is expensive, but it is very high quality. I did enjoy the hot chocolate, but I couldn't nearly finish it. I wish they had a kid's size. We bought a bunch of chocolate to bring home and my wife savored every piece.

Sampler box... With drawers!

This place doesn't sell Chocolate.. this place sells an 'experience'. One you don't want to miss in this lifetime.... My husband came back with a box of chocolate from a business trip in Belgium after I told him to bring back something 'local'. He handed me this huge bag with a box as big as my head. The box itself it beautifully wrapped, black and simple with a beautiful bow. I lifted the top and it had five drawers! DRAWERS! I was completely blown away by the packaging alone! We opened each drawer and each one presented a highly decorated and couldn't-wait-to-put in my mouth, decadent piece of chocolate. Each morsel that was put in our mouth could only be enjoyed by rubbing our tongues against the roof of our mouth and moaning a load "Mmmmmm..." So decadent... so much flavor... it's hard to describe all the facets that one morsel of chocolate could carry.. from the aroma before it hits your tongue.. to the melting on your tongue.. to the explosion experience that one can only describe as heavenly decadent. I almost had to pinch myself between each morsel to make sure I wasn't dreaming. If you enjoy sweets as much as I do, I hope that life brings you around to experience such an amazing chocolate as one made from Pierre Marcolini. It is truly life changing.

These are the BEST chocolates I have ever eaten. I would give it 7 stars. They have multiple locations, and this location is the biggest one. They also have just a coffee shop/macaron/cake shop where you can't take pictures. The associates here are very friendly and nice. They're very welcoming so don't feel intimidated. I bought 3 boxes of chocolates and a box of macarons for about $130. This is a MUST stop location in Brussels.

I detest chocolate...or so I thought. The tasting is highly recommended and the chocolates are so decadent you'll want to take an entire bag back home with you. Definitely put this on your list of "must see/do" when you visit Belgium!

I am impressed! This is not a chocolate store. This is like a boutique. This is like a gallery. All these delicious Pierre Marcolini's Chocolate is displayed with class. Just like finer things in life, these are something that worth paying for. And they are definitely worth their price! I going to savour and enjoy one of my favourite keepsake from this trip slowly. Chocolate really the way get to a Man or a Woman's heart! Especially Chocolate from Pierre Marcolini's!

This is absolutely the premiere chocolatier in Brussels! Staff is quite friendly and helpful. They have a variety of upscale chocolates, truffles, ice cream, macaroons, etc. Our tour guide said if you love the person you are buying chocolate for-buy it here, and if you dislike them, visit Leonidas. We bought a Merveilleux Chocolat to share for dessert later (5 euros). It had in it Dark chocolate millefeuille, chocolate crème fraîche, and meringue. OMG-best chocolate item I've ever had! We also bought a 4 pack of the barre chocolates-a soft caramel/vanilla/sea salt/dark chocolate, almond hazelnut praline, salted caramel infused with Java coffee, and Madagascar cocoa bean chocolate with hazelnut. Again, best chocolate ever! It is pricey but it is so, so worth it. There is some seating inside but I'd recommend taking your treats to-go to continue your journey through Brussels!

Very beautiful chocolate! We tried a lovely truffle upon entrance. We were shown around by an associate that was very nice and eager to sell. We did purchase a couple of mixed boxes, 1 as a gift and 1 to take home. Their macaroons are DELICIOUS , we had the Rose and Pistachio. Outside is a ice cream stand where their chocolate is chilled and ice cream filled. We also had a taste of Milk Chocolate with chocolate ice cream and White Chocolate with raspberry ice cream for $1. We did talk to the woman about the best chocolates to travel with and we ended up getting a jar of chocolate that was taken away at the airport, just wish she would have mentioned to check it as we were talking about it but not her fault. We missed trying it! Don't make the same mistake we did.

Very friendly staff. Great combination of hot Chocolate, cakes and chocolate pieces. If you don't like creamy and heavy chocolate, don't get the cream (it is $2 more). It is an experience.

Fancy chocolate, hard to go wrong. They also have an insanely rich hot chocolate if you're into that kind of thing. It's a pretty small shop, so while they've got a full selection of their boxed chocolates they don't make them here. They do sell some baked treats that are made on site. If you're looking for a take-home chocolate gift this is the place (or any Pierre Marcolini location).

I though with it being in the shop window it might be a touch dry. Heck no! The thickness of the delicious fudge/chocolate frosting kept the moisture trapped right in there. Was it the best chocolate cake that I bought my wife & sneaked a bit or six of? No. But it was up there... And for the price it can not be beaten. Well maybe add some rum etc & then it can be beaten...

I finally had the chance to redeem myself by attending the Brussels Tour where one of the stops was here. My all time favorite flavors brought me right back to that moment when I took my first bite on the streets of Paris. It was seriously like that scene out of Ratatouille where it brought him back to his childhood. It was the same for me! Best flavors of your life: pistachio and Salted Caramel.
