Here I am again with the chocolates...On our stop over at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, I went around browsing at the duty free shop. I saw a lady bought 6 boxes of these gems ...I was tempted to buy some too but I know we will be heading to Brussels and I remember my son telling me that Brussels is a haven for beer and chocolates so I just have to curtail my cravings and wait to buy it when we get there on our scheduled tour in two weeks. so I ended up having a Chicken Sandwich at a nearby stall.
We arrived in Brussels two weeks later and sure enough, the Grand Plaza boast of having the most chocolate shops you can imagine....and the beers, Whew!!! never seen so much variety of beer in my entire life. As we pass Neuhaus, I knew i have to get in and have my fix. There it was, beautifully arranged, neatly packed on top of each other, all kinds of mouth filling delights, variety of flavors and sizes. Some sold by the pound and some in boxes.
Neuhaus has been around since the year 1857 (displayed proudly on their ads) and invented the Belgian Praline, a bite size filled chocolate which consist of different fillings & shapes. My favorite was the Truffles Speculoos, (a very tasty Belgian invention of caramelized butter/ginger cookie) I'll be writing a separate review on this...the Truffles Caramel, (Butter Cream & caramel of course ) Ganache Frederic (melt in the mouth filling of cream, coffee & liqueur), Ganache Galerie ( salty & caramel delight) and the BonBon ( has rum in it).
The Boxed Sommelier Collection (Pralines to accompany wines) came with a brochure..a tasting guide to suggest wines that goes with the chocolate. All pricey but all worth it. Neuhaus has 2 branches here in New York, one is located at 569 Lexington Ave., and the other one at 500 Madison but it is always nice to experience it where it all began.... read more
