If you order a drink such as coffee or hot chocolate, they let you pick a complimentary piece of chocolate to go with your drink, which is a nice touch. You order at the counter, take a number, and they bring your order to your table. (There is no additional table service after that, though--you'd just go up to the counter again if you would like something else.) My hot chocolate was delicious--not too sweet but rich and had good flavor. The chocolates were tried tasted homemade and were really very good. Right down the street from Musée des Instruments de Musique, this spot is a good bet for that kind of experience. Don't just limit yourself to the hot chocolate though. Their award winning chocolates should be tried on their own. I definitely recommend getting the hot chocolate + 5 chocolate piece combo. We tried a bunch of flavors (and bought home some more). They were all excellent. I believe the ones with olive flavor is the most coveted one (at least they were when we were there because of a recently won award), but honestly, just go to town. The Ganache aux olives Taggiasche here won Gold at the International Chocolate Awards for Best Flavoured Dark Chocolate Ganache. I knew I had to try it to see what an award winning chocolate tasted like. One piece was around 50 cents, which isn't bad although it was pretty small. The chocolate was very rich and the flavors really came through. I wasn't really a fan of the olive flavor, but I suppose that's personal preference. The intensity of the chocolate really hits, and then it becomes a smooth and almost creamy taste. It was really delicious although I still prefer Marcolini or Blondeel. The chocolate shop is also a tearoom/cafe where you can sit down and enjoy a drink with your chocolate. I'm glad I was able to try this award winning chocolate! read more

One of Belgium's new wave Chocolate Makers, his shop and Atelier at Rue Ravenstein a short walk from all the famous mass-market shops at Place de Grand Sablon, Laurent Gerbaud has become something of a celebrity in recent times due to his high standard of imported ingredients to pair with milk and dark cocoa made from some of the world's finest beans and although prices trend slightly higher than the usual the texture is beyond compare, even the 76% cocoa tablet intensely creamy. Further upping the ante by way of pastries from Brian Joyeux, a late arrival finding the selection largely diminished but still with a Brioche and small Kugelhopf that was every bit as good as the medium one a day prior *despite having sat on the counter all day,* suffice it to say that the Brownie made from Gerbaud's own cocoa is one of the best money can buy, the fact that Joyeux's Fondant Cake filled with Caramel was so good further explained by the fact that it too was made from Gerbaud's Dark Chocolate. read more

Definitely worth stopping by and having a coffee with chocolate and a bathroom break since as we all learn about Europe is bathrooms are few and Inbetween and even fewer when FREE. We only ended up there to have hot chocolate, so no review on the hard stuff here unfortunately. A good point to start with: they're open late, on days when everybody else is shut. Very nice atmosphere, and a warm welcome, too, brought on by a minimalist, white layout. They seem to concentrate on a few spiced chocolates rather than a wide range, which looks like a good idea. We were a bit disappointed by the hot cocoa, though, but to be honest we were among the last customers so the hot, spinning machine they would normally use was empty and clean. Ours were made 'by hand', and it felt like using that dreadful skimmed, UHT milk from a brick ruined the fantastic chocolate used to start with. Underneath that blanket of blandness, there was a storm of tastes and quality screaming to get out, and all you got were muffled sounds. It will definitely be worth a second try, though, but earlier in the day! Decent prices otherwise, for Brussels. read more
