So fancy! And a huge selection! Upon entering it's a little bit intimidating because everything looks amazing and you're really not sure what to get. I read that this is the best chocolatier in Brussels so definitely had to get some. Got a pack of 8 macaroons and the 'best of the best' selection of truffle and chocolates. The girl who helped was very nice and spoke English. Although she had to get some help with some translation of some macaroon flavors, but very sweet. read more

I know exactly what my Yelp Friend and most of the guys thinking the minute they walked inside Wittamer. Gee, this place is REALLY pink Gee, those pastry so small and cost 5 - 7 EUR! Can we just go drink a beer? Most of the guys ended up dragging their female companion out. But for us, it was a little different as we were here because the guy requested it... Afternoon Tea for One (10 EUR) with a choice of pastry and a cup of tea was a little pricey but after all Wittamer is one of the Certified Royal Warrant Holder of Belgium. Good enough for the Royals of course good enough for me. All their cakes and pastries just looked so pretty and I ended up having a Chestnut Apple Tart. The tea set came with 2 piece of truffles too! The experience would probably be more memorable if I able to sit in the patio in the front of the store on a nice sunny day.. but it was cold when I was there. read more

One of my favorite chocolates!! The corn looking praline is divine!! A must try. We were only in Brussels for 3 days so on the last day we got them, and had train tickets to head to Paris the next morning. We ended up taking a train from Paris back to Brussels a couple days later to get more of the pralines to bring home to family and friends. We came back just for these chocolates and the Belgian waffles from the Christmas market. lol Note: The actual chocolatier to buy the pralines is a few doors doors down. Wittamer's pralines are absolutely wonderful - they are not appointed a Royal Warrant Holder of the Court of Belgium for being bad, mind you. They have a charming cafe at Grand Sablon, identifiable by the bright pink canopy from a distance away. This review, however, would not be about the cafe. The real delight is Wittamer's chocolate outlet a couple of units further down the same row. Their selection of pralines is huge, which means that is definitely something for everyone. This review is for Wittamer's pralines, which are the the most heavenly, dreamiest, and best pralines of my life. I stopped by here and was a bit overwhelmed by all the pinkness and the choice of pastries and sweets. Not being very hungry, I bought a little bag of pralines to take away because the Yelp reviews recommended them and I think they must all be made with fresh cream? Each little praline seems so normal, but that evening when I put the first chocolate morsel in my mouth, I could have cried with happiness as the sheer goodness of this chocolate. I am very fond of pralines and went around Belgium trying them everywhere and I can honestly say Wittamer's pralines blew me away. I think that bag lasted less than 5 minutes and I spent the rest of the evening feeling tragic because I was leaving Belgium without any more time to go back to Wittamer. I can't wait to come back and if the pralines are this good, I want to try some of the pastries too! read more

It was out of curiosity, a memory of the past {Shiseido Parlour Ginza} that landed me in Wittamer, with it's whimsical display and the sight of seating available which is unique since most shmancy chocolate boutiques I came across did not provide. In another window display case was the difference maker, this specific shop offered some attractive cakes and desserts that drew many within therefore seats allow these "curious" impulsive consumers to enjoy their newly purchased sweets on-site. As the pastry and tea arrived to the table, I soon realized the seats themselves and myself included on the main floor were part of the display more so than an actual dining space. We became part of the design as people browsed around as well as passed by to see what pricey items others decided to take a chance on and was worth the second mortgage to enjoy a moment of potential heaven. The second floor had plenty more seats and a dedicated dining room which I wished I knew about as an option at the lost of having all the candies, pastries, locals and tourist pace around you. At the end, I have to say the chocolates here played second fiddle to the cakes & pastries for a chocolate boutique as the chocolates aren't featured visually as much as it should be. So all of the other reviews are in French, so I can't tell you why they've only got 3 stars. I got a lovely box of assorted chocolates, helped by a very nice lady behind the counter. Wittamer certainly seems more "normal" than Pierre Marcolini, with a much more middle-class shop feel. Honestly, I felt way more comfortable. I grabbed the freebie chocolate egg filled with caramel fleur de sal - awesome! I'm thinking of going back just to buy some more. I also picked up caramel fleur de sal macaron (sense a theme) - also delicious, but super crumbly. I think more was on my shirt than in my mouth, at the end. read more

We had a short visit to Brussels, and decided to do what the locals do....sit and have coffee at a local cafe. Service was great, they have a chocolate and bake shops throughout town. I was so impressed with this place! It's a chocolate shop, patisserie, bakery where everything is homemade by a passionate couple who love what they do (and pink). We popped in for lunch after seeing through the windows that the cakes looked amazing and the sandwiches looked good too. Don't be put off by the pink facade. We took a seat and had a look through the menu. Tbh I was a bit sceptical as the prices of the sandwiches and cakes were more than I expected but hey we were on holiday! To begin we ordered some drinks. I went for a glass of white and my bf ordered a flat white. A friendly waiter brought them over along with home made cheese straws for me and a selection of chocolates for the coffee! I loooove it when they do that! Both were delicious. We decided to share a half quiche and salad (12 euros for the main) and opted for mozzarella and tomato. It was also sooo good! They served it warm but the pastry wasn't soggy and they also gave us 2 side salads (instead of the one) so there was so so much food. They also brought out some freshly baked bread and butter. Thennn they brought round a few more chocolates for us to try. The service in this place is beyond words. Very good chocolates and cakes, with excellent sidewalk tables to take in the sun and sights. But unfortunately, very high prices too!! Small tarts/cakes were 7+ euros each, and drinks were about 5-7 euros, so much so that two drinks and two cakes ended up costing 25 euros in total. Still, if you're a tourist, it might be worth getting some chocs from the shop or just resting your feet and relaxing in the cafe a few paces down from the choc shop. Wittamer's is one of a handful of establishments that I wish I could give a sixth star; if Yelp allowed one six star review of every hundred you give, this would be it for me. One of the oldest artisan chocolate makers in Belgium. Available only in Belgium and Japan and the last of the family owned artisan chocolate makers. When I stumbled into Wittamer's I was greatly by a lovely lady who patiently attended me and answered every question I had regarding the process and the chocolates. I wanted to take chocolate home as gifts and she informed what would keep, and what would not. She gave me samples and conversed as though I were the most important customer in the world. I later looked at the webpage and realized that it was Myriam, the heiress along with her brother of the Wittamer chocolate fortune. Can you imagine? She spent 45 minutes assisting me and joyously conversing on chocolates and world affairs. I was floored. What an incredible experience If that level of customer service, family operation and humility aren't enough to earn your business, this is chocolate after all...the chocolate is simply the best I've ever had. The level of separation between Wittamer's and other fine chocolates is like he difference between Michael Phelps and other swimmers. Even the best of the best save one or two other Belgian boutiques are not even close. Incredible variety...I chose ten flavors among 50 and while I had my favorites even the ones that were not my favorite were still incredibly refined. Some time ago I had a business meeting in Brussels and had arranged to meet a colleague for coffee and a pastry at the well-reviewed Wittamer in Sablon. Good grief, what a mistake! I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode: "No pan au chocolat for you!" I arrived early for the morning meeting and chose a pan au chocolat in my rusty French. I wasn't offered any option but takeaway, which I considered strange. Nonetheless, to observe etiquette since my colleague hadn't arrived yet, I asked the cashier if I could sit at a table in the completely empty bakery until my colleague arrived. Yes, she said, then disappeared to the back. Her co-worker, in a black apron, approached me at the table and began speaking rapid French. When I asked her to slow down, she said I hadn't paid enough for the pastry and had to leave my seat! Apparently there is a difference between takeaway prices and dining in, although I wasn't offered anything but takeaway. I proceeded to stand on the sidewalk for 15+ minutes in the morning breeze awaiting my colleague and noticed not less than four separate bakeries/cafes/chocolatiers within sight distance of Wittamer! As a side note, not a single person sat in the bakery the whole time; it was completely empty. If you want chocolate, the far superior Marcolini is a few dozen steps away; Godiva and Cafe Leffe are the same distance away. Skip the Euro-snobbery and the outrageous prices. Even the pastry was no better than its equivalent at the Starbucks in Central Station -- and they don't ask you to leave if you haven't paid "enough." read more

Opera cake and mocha cake were both delicious. I have had better numerous times but it was very good. I held back 1 star because we sat outside for 15 minutes and they charged 7.5 Euros each instead of 5 Euros as advertised in the store. I was not aware of the added charge and just paid it. This is a review of the chocolate shop and not the cafe next door. The pralines made with fresh cream are outstanding. These must be consumed within a week as no preservatives are used. I have purchased them several times over the years and have never been disappointed. Staff is very friendly and will give you a sample. The other chocolates are also great but the "creme fraiche" are unique. read more

This is a nice place to sit with a coffee and a cake, but goodness me it's expensive. Best value is to order a house hot chocolate in the depths of winter, which will arrive complete with enough whipped cream to kill you, plus a little dish of chocolates on the house. It's a nice place to drop into when you've shopped yourself dry at the Sablon antiques market. Bring a book to coax out the maximum Euros-per-hour value. Bring people here if: they're your parents, they're wealthy, they're paying for you, they're outrageously girly or camp (the bright pink walls and boutique chandeliers are funky but not for the macho) Don't bring people here if: they're students, or expecting a spit-and-sawdust place! read more

This is a review of their chocolates. The cafe looks nice, and I've had a pastry there, but nothing that I feel comfortable judging them on. Chocolate though, doesn't get better than this. Of all the chocolatiers that I've ever visited in Paris, Belgium and Japan, Wittamer had the best chocolates. Well-chosen fillings that are balanced with the flavor of the chocolate, so that you don't lose the taste of either. I'm not saying the other places are bad, per se. I'm so delighted that Wittamer's opens early. I had very little time in Brussels--I arrived just as most of the chocolate shops on Grand Sablon were closing.
