Pork Tenderloin
Crystal Z.

Ambiance - casual, homey, great for small and large groups Service - slow, only 2 people as servers/bartenders Food - the truffle pierogi was cooked to perfection, mushroom sauce paired really well with the pork tenderloin

We had a quick lunch. And place is nice and cozy. The food was okay overall. We ordered the cabbage wraps, but they weren't great. The soup was good, though. Unfortunately, the food was served almost cold, which was disappointing. Overall, it's one of the better Polish places, but there's definitely room for improvement. Server was kind, but staff in general not welcoming.

This place was very cute with decent seating and lots of windows to let in the natural light. Staff was nice. I got the breakfast skillet with "scallions, corn, bacon, cheddar, potatoes, & sunny eggs" (per the website menu). It came with 3 potato & cheese pierogis which were delicious but I didn't see any individual potatoes, perhaps it was just a reference to the pierogi filling. It came with bread that wasn't my cup of tea. The skillet was good but if I come back, I'd probably get the pierogis alone.

Golabki - Stuffed Cabbage

First time trying Polish food, and I was so excited!! We walked in on a Saturday around 12pm and it wasn't crowded yet, but by the time we left around 1pm, every table was filled! You get to pick your own seat which is nice! The interior is super cute and the tables are spacious. What's Pierogi Kitchen without pierogis right? I'd only had pierogis once at a random cafe in Wisconsin, but I thought they were absolutely delicious!! We tried the brisket pierogi, which came with a generous portion of brisket, and they were quite big in size too!! They're sautéed in butter and onions by default, and we added $1.50 for bacon (which makes a huge difference in flavor)! I wanted to try the stuffed cabbage so badly (golabki) mainly because I just LOVE cabbage so much. It was stuffed with rice and pork shoulder! The tomato sauce helped the dish lighten up with some tangy flavor. The zurek was a smoky tangy broth with kielbasa sausage, a hard boiled egg, and onions. This was sour and quite salty, but I really enjoyed it! LOVED the fact that there was an egg in there - it makes everything better!!! The kielbasa platter comes with 3 potato and cheese pierogis, smoked kielbasa, sauerkraut, and mustard. While I wish the toast was buttered, I did love the kielbasa!! Overall, I loved how light everything tasted, and I didn't feel like I was walking around super stuffed afterwards like I do with most restaurants!

Very disappointed in this place. No one greeted us. Service was slow & painful to get anyone to acknowledge us. Only 1 of the pierogi options came pan seared. It was the potato & onion, we assumed the onions would be caramelized. Instead the were raw chopped onions. They brought out meat filled for me when I ordered potato jalapeno. I'm a vegetarian, when I bit into it, I was shocked. The waiter was like, do you want me to get potato ones instead. Um, yes. The jalapeños weren't inside of the pierogi. Only chopped as garnish. Flavorless & the dough fell apart. My brother in law said his sausage was pretty decent. We asked for the check, didn't come. About 20 minutes later, we went up to the bar to say we want to leave. It's like we had to beg to pay for mediocre food. Didn't seem like they cared at all.

I really liked it. It felt family operated and crisp -- like they really care about quality but also the space was intentionally designed. Food came out fast but it looked crafted with care. I'm a huge polish food fan and the options were so across the board authentic-- like my mother in law would make. I mean Zurek, c'mon. I had the kielbasa plate in house (my mother in law did not make kielbasa btw but my German Wisconsin household did!). I ordered the borscht and the zurek to go. They have dill pickle soup too folks! I was tempted to go three for three, but practiced restraint. Next time!

PK Old Fashioned, with "secret" ingredient Krupnik

While searching for restaurants at which to dine while I am in Chicago, I discovered a 5-star review for Pierogi Kitchen by a good friend who was there last year. Since he was coming in to town again for the same event we were attending, a group of us agreed to meet him on his way in. He ran late, so we had an opportunity to order additional drinks and appetizers. The whole evening was a fantastic experience. They have a nice assortment of beers available. The cocktails are well made and reasonably priced. I was pleasantly surprised to find some with Krupnik; their PK Old Fashioned, featuring it, was one of the more interesting Old Fashioned's I've had. Not a single bad thing about any of the foods we ordered. Of course the Pierogis lived up to expectations. But oh those wings!!! The stuffed cabbage was also large for an appetizer portion. We ordered everything to have family style. All was eaten and appreciated. The guys working here were friendly, quick on service, and fun to chat with. It was good, casual, service. I have not yet stopped thanking my friend for having found this place last year.

Great Polish Cuisine!! Our group of five adults came for dinner and got an assortment of dishes including brisket pierogis, Polish sausage sandwich on a baguette, Polish sausage dinner, potato pancakes, and sweet cream pierogis for dessert. They had quite a nice assortment of beers on tap including a coffee stout called Deschutes Obsidian Nitro Stout. Everything tasted great and not a crumb was left. The atmosphere was comfortable. The service was friendly but not intrusive. Some of us are from out of town, but I'm told this place is fairly new. We all recommend it and we all plan to come back again.

Such good food and service. The staff was so chill and kind, especially bartender- i wish i would've gotten her name but she's the best! We all loved our food, plus the sweet cream dessert pierogis were delicious. I will be back for brunch!

We came here for lunch on a Thursday around 1 PM. It was previously a BBQ joint and the interior still reminds me of it. A few Polish movie posters and album covers decorate the walls and a good Polish beer selection is on draft. We were promptly seated by the kind wait staff. We put in our food order a few minutes after being seated. It took a short while for the dishes to come out, but it wasn't too long. Coming from a Polish person, this food was good (not great), however it is somewhat unfair for me to judge it against home cooked meals. I would say if you've never had home cooked Polish cuisine, then this place does a great job of introducing you into a variety of Polish culinary staples. Recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area and want to try Polish food for the first time!

Dill pickle soup
Amber L.

Pickle people, this spot is for you! Ordered the sauerkraut pierogi and waiter checked to make sure I liked sauerkraut but I was thinking pshh you don't have to worry about that. This pierogi was properly sauerkrauted. Dont know much about pierogis so can't speak to how good this is in pierogi land but the outside was a little gummy. Perhaps that's how it's supposed to be. Also tried pickle soup for the first time and it was really yum. Come here for delish probiotics!

Potato&Cheese pierogi, kielbasa and potato pancakes.
Kelly D.

The pierogi were delicious. We enjoyed the beets as well. The kielbasa was too charred but still very tasty. The potato pancakes were also overdone, but delicious IMO. The service was great and everyone was friendly. We will return.

As she set down this sticky, wet, under-filled mess, I asked her exactly how much of my husband's $16 cocktail she had just spilled. She said, "Yeah, the bartender over-poured," and walked off. It was no wonder when we arrived that there was a line out the door. We waited around 45 minutes, and the bouncer was a really nice fellow who kept track of the numbers and people at the door. Upon entering, we were immersed in a dimly lit retro-style lounge. It was quite loud inside and packed as we walked to our seats. The server was great at taking our orders and offering suggestions. I opted for the French 75, which featured sparkling wine and mixed gin, brandies, and citrus. The drink was delicious, but STRONG. I don't know what they put in the cocktails in America, but I am always finished after one drink. Needless to say, we were all struggling to finish our own drinks. My favourite touch was the coasters, I ended up keeping all of them so that I can reuse them at my galentines event next year. The 'bisous' with the kiss on the other side is a perfect touch! Imagine my shock when we didn't even make it past the bouncer because he was so rude, AS OTHER RECENT REVIEWS HAVE MENTIONED AS WELL! We had dinner nearby and walked to Bisous after, and saw there was a line of 5 or 6 people outside. We expected this as we knew Bisous is a first come, first serve bar. We were curious what the wait time would look like, so we approached the front door to ask a host or employee inside (we assumed there'd be a desk with an employee working it who could give us a wait time). We had no problem waiting, just wanted to see how long they estimated it would be! Before we could even fully open the door, the bouncer swung the door open from the other side and hit me with the door. I stumbled back a few steps and he looked at us and said, and I quote, "What do you want?". I laughed at first because I thought he was joking and putting on a tough guy act. He was not. We quickly explained we just wanted to see what the wait time was, and he said "don't you see there's a line outside?" We said yes, and explained we just wanted to know a rough estimated wait time. He just blankly stared at us while ushering us out. Both my boyfriend and I have worked in customer-service roles for a very, very long time. This encounter was not only extremely rude and unprofessional, but he also hit me hard enough with the door to send me stumbling back, and then said nothing about it and continued to address us in a tone that was nothing less than annoyed and irritated. We didn't end up going inside because that encounter left such a bad taste in our mouths. I don't believe in spending my money at establishments that don't treat their customers with the bare minimum respect they deserve! Bummed we didn't get to experience it, as I'm sure it was lovely inside and I can only hope the rest of the employees were much more kind and accommodating, or at least able to answer a simple question. Fire your "bouncer" (??) and hire someone with some basic customer service and communication skills!!

Our waiter at Le Mistral was very friendly, gave some good advice on the cocktails, and was consistently attentive. My cocktail was just OK - sherry-based martini. I don't normally like a martini but all the ingredients actually seemed very much up my alley - the sherry, benedictine, rose vermouth. But the olive just overpowered. And definitely not worth the price of $24... Would definitely return and try the food next time as well.
