I just realized the last time I wrote a review here was 7 years ago. In that time, I've been back at least 30 times, and it's one of my most favorite restaurants in the US. Honestly, I'd eat here every day if I could. Everything is phenomenal here. Literally. I don't typically care for sauerkraut: love there's. I avoid stuffed cabbage: am obsessed with theirs. Just come here and order one of everything off the menu and thank me later. Also be sure to dine here at night, the red lighting is a vibe. The service is some of the best as well, so if you're visiting Chicago, go here.

Now this was an experience! Delicious cocktails, authentic Ukrainian appetizers presented artistically, and hearty, exquisite and piping-hot mains. The service was excellent - friendly, informative and kind. The environment is whimsical and tasteful. It gives that Eastern European "going out tonight" vibe. Tryzub feels like vacation, with Ukrainian culture permeating every delicious course.

Hand made Potato&Cheese Varenyky Pirogie . Good but they put diced red paprika, it's should not be there ...

Another visit. Ordered Borch and Pierogie Very good. Will order it again, only Pierogie should not be on it ...

When I stepped into Tryzub, I felt like I was back in my Lviv. The restaurant was beautifully adorned with Ukrainian relics, books about Ukraine, and magical string lighting. The ceilings were a marvel to look at and the corner of the room was painted with a mural of Lviv's center. We had made a reservation as it was my birthday and Easter weekend. It was a good thing we did, because Tryzub was fully packed. When we got there, we checked in and were promptly seated. Our waitress, Vasylyna, took great care of us and I loved how I was able to order in Ukrainian. As far as the food, everything was delicious and tasted like back at home in Ukraine. I had the Chicken Kiev and my better half had the goulash. You cannot go wrong with either dish. For drinks, we had the kompot, a sour cherry infused spirit (which our waitress brought for me as a birthday gift), and a light Ukrainian beer. I really liked the infused spirit, and I loved the range of flavors that they have of these. Even though the restaurant was a 25 minute Uber ride from our hotel, we are so glad that we came here. My birthday celebration was complete at Tryzub and a special thank you to Vasylyna who made it even more special!!

What an incredible hidden gem!! My husband and I came here for a date night and it definitely impressed. Serving Ukrainian dishes, both traditional and elevated, with an eclectic coktail menu in a very culturally adorned and spacious setting, Tryzub impressed on every front. Highly recommend their medley dish that's roasted in a pumpkin, the flavors and presentation were incredible and you get to have a bit of the pumpkin in the rind afterwards! Service was attentive and eager to explain any menu items that were confusing. A bit on the higher price point but worth every penny, highly recommend!

Yelp... I wrote this entire review in Russian... then I went to post and you only left punctuation. What gives?! Here is the translation of what I wrote, thank goodness I had it saved. Please forgive that which sounds funky in translation. I won't lie. I've been putting this review off and on. I've been here twice, tried a lot of things, and haven't written a review. So, this review won't have all the details that I usually include, where I take each dish apart and tell you everything I thought. No. But this review will be in Russian (I wish, Yelp, I shake both my fists at thee!) I have Ukrainian heritage. Although my parents came from the Soviet Union, they were in Ukraine. The dishes my mother cooked were Ukrainian and those that were eaten in the general Soviet Union. Therefore, although I am not an expert on Ukrainian gastronomy, I ate real Ukrainian dishes at home. This is what Tryzub does well. Their food is one hundred and ten percent based on traditional food that was eaten in Ukraine and the General Union. What is especially cool is that Tryzub not only cooks traditional food, but does something creative with each dish. The quality of the ingredients and the food is amazing. Everything is thought out very well and everything is very fresh. I will tell you a big secret, because my mother does not read my reviews, that the mushroom soup I had here was a little bit tastier than what I eat at home. Now let's talk about the atmosphere. The whole restaurant is covered with memorabilia related to Ukraine and Ukrainian heritage. The decorations take up practically every space on the wall. But even then, they did not overdo it. There are restaurants that throw a bunch of pictures on and the result is God knows what. This is not the case here. Here you feel like you are in a Ukrainian home. And I want to add, some of the decorations are even a little funny. Now I want to talk about the service. It was very friendly. The food came out of the kitchen quickly, and the waitress who looked after us did everything in her power to make sure we had an awesome time. I'll tell you what helps me: I see "salo" or "borscht" - I know what it is. These dishes don't scare me. I imagine an American might see "traditional plate of lard" and ask: "What is this?" They'll tell him: "It's a pork product that's so fatty that it'll melt in the pan." Some will probably look at this waitress as if she had three heads. These things don't scare me. But it's precisely what I know that gives me the opportunity that when I bring my friends here who don't have Ukrainian or Soviet heritage, I can tell them what it is and tell them not to be afraid. In the worst case, I'll order it for myself, and they'll pinch off a piece of mine and then they'll understand: "Oh, this is delicious, listen!" Tryzub is one of the best restaurants I've been to. Not only in the Ukrainian food category, but in general. I would happily recommend this place to everyone. And if friends come to visit me, I won't let them go home until they are here.

We thought it was really good. We have things that we want to try for next time - that is always a good sign! Great atmosphere - it feels like your grandmother's house from the old country, there is so much to look at. The servers were very accommodating and friendly.

I visited Chicago in March and went out of my way to visit this Ukrainian restaurant that had so many good reviews. It was around 1:45 PM on Saturday afternoon and there was no wait. The food was fantastic. The food was authentic, unique, and full of flavor. There were no bad dishes ordered! They also had a wide selection of drinks and cocktails, but I didn't feel like drinking that day. One small hiccup: when I first sat down, the server didn't give me the brunch menu, so I ordered from the regular lunch menu without realizing brunch was still available. Once I saw other people getting brunch dishes, I switched part of my order over. It wasn't a big deal, but it would've been nice to know all my options from the start. The vibe of the place was nice. It was casual and welcoming. Near the bathrooms, there's some bold anti-Putin artwork, which was both surprising and entertaining. All in all, this spot felt like one of those finds you want to tell everyone about, but also kind of want to keep to yourself because it's so good. I'll definitely be back - next time, for brunch right away.

Wow is all I can say to start. Upon walking in, this is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the neighborhood. The service was very welcoming and gave a great rundown of the menu. I'm familiar with Eastern European food being Eastern European myself, but knew nothing of Ukrainian food. The potato pancake flight is a great starter! I had the hunters stew and it was so filling and luscious for a cold day. The real hidden gem here is the infused spirits, seriously they have a flavor for every kind of cocktail. The Bloody Mariyka was superb and a wonderful compliment to the app. I can't wait to come back for supper. The brunch menu is smaller than the dinner menu as expected but I need to engage the full menu for maximum food coma enjoyment.

Really enjoyed my visit to Tryzub! There's a wide variety of varenyky on the menu--we started with the fried varenyky as an appetizer, and they were a great choice. The chicken Kyiv was tender with a rich, flavorful filling that really stood out. Service was good and attentive, especially since it wasn't too busy during our visit. The atmosphere is well decorated with lots of interesting Ukrainian facts and cultural touches, which makes the space feel welcoming and unique. Bonus points for the strong and interesting vodka drinks. Overall, a great spot for authentic food, good drinks, and a relaxed experience. Would definitely return when in the Chicago.

In Chicago for the weekend and made my way to Ukrainian Village. Tryzub was highly rated, so I went there for lunch. Being half Ukrainian and having lived in Kyiv, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia as I stepped into the restaurant. The walls are adorned with various things that make you feel like you're in someone's home. Ukrainian pop music plays through the speakers. I sat at the bar, which features even more interesting aesthetics. I really wanted to holubtsi, but they were featuring their brunch menu. I had a breakfast skillet (essentially shakshuka) and potato pancakes. The skillet was great. The eggs could have used a pinch of salt, but the toasted, seasoned rye bread that's served with it more than makes up for it. Some people like thick potato pancakes, while I prefer them thin and crispy. The ones at Tryzub are somewhere in the middle. But they're served with plenty of sour cream and a tasty mushroom cream sauce. The bartender was friendly and accommodating, and I happily purchased a Tryzub t-shirt (the same ones that staff wear). If you're in Chicago and want to experience and support a Ukrainian business that also serves fantastic food, Tryzub is your spot!

This restaurant embodies the heart and soul of Ukrainian Village- the food and atmosphere both deliver bold, refined sensations while also paying homage to Ukrainian history and tradition. The service is expeditious and genial. We ordered a menagerie of different dishes- a Varenyky (Pierogi) party platter, Chicken Kyiv, and Goulash. They all tasted unique and superb. The Varenyky were definitely the fan favorite, I got to try very interesting combination of new flavors. I'm no expert on authentic Ukrainian food so I can't speak on its authenticity but the flavors were all delectable.

Tryzub remains one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the Chicago area (and probably one of my favorite restaurants period). It is such a special place. The ambiance and energy is so warm and inviting. The service is top tier and the food and drinks never miss. I always look forward to a Chicago trip because I know we'll be getting a meal in here.

Winter Borsch, Ukrainian pierogis, and I can't remember the larger flat thing- but it was DELICIOUS!

We had to stay in the crowded lobby for a long time before the ceremony space was opened. The restrooms are far away from the action, about as far from the party as they could be. The second floor cocktail space was cramped. The two bartenders were soooo slow. Not sure if they were part of the catering staff the Rookery uses or separate. Dinner was exceptional. No one knew the bar moved from the second floor to a space under a first-floor staircase for drinks after dinner. There was no announcement of where desserts were located. A lot of the issues I had with the wedding could have been eliminated had an experienced planner been hired. Too often during the day guests were not sure where to go or what was happening, what was next. It's a beautiful space but my advice to couples would be to hire a planner who is experienced and who has worked several wedding at the Rookery. Also, I was told the space was rented the night before the wedding so the couple couldn't have a rehearsal. Unfortunately, that was obvious and added to the disjointed event. Also, some tourist walked into the back of the ceremony space during the wedding. I would have thought Rookery staff/security would keep tourists out of a private event, but this is one of those things that will become a funny wedding story in a couple of years.

The truth of the statement revealed itself as vaunted ceilings gave this cavernous room an aura of grandeur and the feeling of tradition. There were beings engaged in erudite studies with an inflexible concentration on laptops, notebooks, and in the back were old men going back and forth on the chessboards. It was still and had the eerie silence of a church chapel and sunbeams flowed in from the windows above. What an alien universe and there I was with a large foil tin carrying thirty of the best chicken wings Chicago had to offer. After the religious pilgrimage to Wings Around the World, Reuben H and Aurore L had the good sense to take us all to Reynolds where we wouldn't be bothered and be allowed to worship our wings in peace. For the moment, Reuben went to fetch pop while Aurore went off as well. I was alone and a heretic - a trespasser sneaking in and using up space that I had no right to, but the chess players were very old and had no business being there either. Then it came to me that everyone was allowed in and Reynolds was there for all to share, no identification required! Lined on the walls are large portraits showing various trustees of the University of Chicago. Lists of past Presidents line the wall and the fashion progression from long beards and robes to finely made designer suits and shaved faces led us to mock one portrait - he definitely wanted some of our chicken wings! We cracked open our wings and uncapped our pops only to find that the Cherry Pepsi was expired! While we munched and crunched on our chicken wings, nary a soul turned their heads nor noticed what fine dining we were helping ourselves to. The unbending concentration of the other people in the hall sustained itself except for the old chess players who all got up and went out for a smoke. We ate undisturbed and worked to get rid of the evidence. On our way out a young college student declared that he was going to have to retake high school chemistry. They were so organized, they even remembered to not drizzle honey on one of our guest's dessert. I checked with every single one of our guests who needed an accommodation, and every single one was fulfilled. We even had a guest who was arriving late; his food was kept warm and brought out immediately when he arrived. As the bride and groom, we got to sit at the head table with our personal Head Waiter, Justin, who was awesome. He made sure our water and wine glasses were always full, and would personally deliver them to us throughout the night whether we were chatting at a table or in the middle of the dance floor. He said he was there if we needed anything, and he always jumped in to help with a smile. Our guests repeatedly told us how beautiful, elegant, and classy the venue was. The Tiffany Room and first floor galleries were the perfect setup for cocktail hour, and everyone loved the gorgeous glasswork (and open bar). The Wisteria room, bathed in candlelight, with a view of the Chicago Skyline, was perfect for dinner and dancing. The staff was professional and helpful, and the entire event ran smoothly. We specifically wanted a venue that would "do it all" so we didn't have to, and Halim Time and Glass Museum absolutely delivered. We treasure the experience we had on our special day and thank Jessica and all of the staff for making it the perfect experience.
