Brazilian chicken pie with chorizo with side of red cabbage slaw £8
    Stephen P.

I grabbed a small table on a Sat afternoon although you have to order at the counter. I got the "seaonal" Brazilian, which is free-range chicken and chorizo and vegetables. I hate food that over-salted and I was assured it wasn't. Chorizo can boost salt a few notches, but this was tasty and well-balanced. I got the red cabbage slaw to make this meaty pie a bit healthier. The pies come with a small jug or boozy gravy which takes a few bites to get used to. The "help yourself" water jugs lean more towards a canteen style attitude, but the gastropub decor is a bit more classy with its dark colours. 7UKP is not cheap, but this is homemade with quality ingredients. This was my first visit and I'll certainly come again. Don't get confused - this is not like a bit of old school London (pie and mash with liquor and eels) London transported to Bristol. This is a modern kitchen version with a price tag to suit.

Nice pie restaurant on the high street but impossible to park. We had the mushroom vegetarian pie with cheesy mash and the Indian flavor vegetarian pie, the haloomi chips and finish with sticky toffee pudding. All the dishes were good but could have done with a little more pronounced flavors. Good portions and good service too. The desert though was amazing!

I'm more than a little embarrassed to admit this, but today was my first ever visit to Pie Minister in Stokes Croft. I know, I know! I have eaten Pie Minister pies before: in St Nics market and other restaurants in Bristol. But today was the first time I've been in their amazing restaurant and I loved it! Live and eat pie is written all over this place, and it's not just a brilliant play on words/lyrics, but it looks bloomin' awesome! I'm a sucker for great typography and they use it really well inside and outside. The interior has lots of explodes brick work with black/grey decor, neons signs and lots of really nice touches. It's definitely one of the most casual but stylish restaurants I've been in. The pies: how to you describe something that is better than perfect? I'm not a huge fan of short crust pastry, unless it's absolutely covered in gravy. But the pastry in a pie minister pie is just amazing. They also do open pies with no pasty on top, and 'pot' so pie filling in a pit with no pastry as all.

Pieminister pies are the best pies in the world - no dispute! I'm totally addicted to their Thai chicken pie and I'm rather partial to their millionaires shortbread as well. I don't care that the two together will set me back about six quid. They are totally worth it! The pies are crammed with huge chunks of succulent chicken and are really moist, without too much pastry. Utterly delicious! I've been calling into their flagship shop on Stokes Croft pretty regularly since moving to Bristol about five years ago. In that time I have watched Pieminister grow into what the owners had always wanted it to be - a franchise chain. It's now possible to buy Pieminister pies at various outlets across the country, and at quite a few festivals as well. They made their millionth handmade pie a couple of years ago, and have had to relocate production to larger premises as they outgrew the baking space at Stokes Croft soon afterward. (This is now used to incubate new businesses). Pieminister are pretty faultless. They possess a great ethos, make mouth-watering food, which they present and package beautifully and they keep it all pretty ethical too. Using sustainable packaging and wooden disposable cutlery with take-out orders, their carbon footprint is kept to a minimum.

I remember when Pieminister came on the scene several years ago, with their uniquely ethical approach to the food industry. I remember feeling proud to be from Bristol listening to people talking about the excellent pies and mash they were getting. Then the summer months rolled in and with the ensuing wave of festivals Pieminister was there to represent. These memories go some way to illustrate what kind of place Pieminister is, its ethos and what it stands for. In many ways they have encapsulated (within delicious and home cooked pastry) what Bristol is about: a city that also feels like the countryside, a fresh and organic place with no artificial touches. Pieminister pride themselves on keeping it simple and sourcing fresh, local ingredients as close to their kitchen as possible. The pies all come with delicious home cooked mashed potatoes, peas and gravy as standard and of the many meat and vegetarian options available the Heidi Pie, with goat's cheese and spinach, is not to be missed.

As Pieminister says, "pie and mash, a perfect marriage" and I couldn't agree more. This pie restaurant is so cool and I'm very glad I tried it when I was in Bristol. I'm hoping to try some of their other locations in London but so far, this one is the best! The Light as a feta pie was delicious and a nice choice if you want a lighter meal that won't make you feel super heavy and full after eating. My boyfriend ordered the Chicken of aragon which he said was very good. The chicken pie came steaming hot but my feta one wasn't as hot as I would have liked. Not a fan of the gravy but the mash and chips were fantastic! For a pie with one side (and free gravy) it was a pretty cheap meal. Judging from the other yelp photos I think they refurbished the place because it looks a lot different and honestly, a lot better. Feels really trendy but I personally like that style and I'm a fan of the dark walls with wood tables. Friendly staff, excellent pies, great value. If you love pies you will definitely love it here!

If I could, I would sing you a song about Pie Minister. It would be a gregorian chant, and it would bring you closer to the divine. This place makes me thank the lord for tastebuds. It will almost certainly do the same for you, even if you are vegetarian. I usually go for the vegetarian anyway because they're all so delicious...and you know you're onto a good thing if you don't need to eat meat to feel that you've had a satisfying meal! Please don't forget to have mash and peas with your pie. It is a holy combination.

Heidi pie with minted mushy peas and mash. So good! Veg option and my meat-eating boyfriend had food envy.

I am American and here I had my first ever experience eating a savory pie and mushy peas. As a vegetarian it was recommended by the friendly staff that I get the Heidi pie. I ordered it with the classic combo of mash and mushy peas. So delicious. It was a very rich meal and I was nursing a serious food baby afterwards but it was totally worth it. And despite being so full we went on to order the toffee apple ice cream pie for dessert which was one of the best desserts my boyfriend and I have had.

OK - so they're one of Bristol's most famous exports, and you've probably eaten them at every festival you've ever been too. Plus they're on sale in several markets, shops and the best pubs around the city. But this shop is the original and the best. In case you've been living on Mars (not the chocolate) or somewhere not so pie-orienated, you may not know about the wonder that is Pieminister. So here is a brief run down: they do pies. Buttery pastries, crisp-shelled, piping hot interior tasty tasty pies. The difference being - yes they make steak and kidney, but they also do 'Thai Chook' and 'Mr Porky' (pork and apple) and 'Matador' (beef and chorizo) and the veggie 'Heidi' (sweet potato, rosemary and goat's cheese) and many, many more. In the shop you can purchase pies to take away (and heat in your oven) or sit down to eat at one of the charming bench seats. I like to buy the little pots of minted mushy peas (soo much better than you local chippy's), mashed potato and rich gravy too - available for just a few quid. What a scrumptious alternative to a typical takeaway.

    The mothership fungi chicken pie

Food was scrumptiously good!! I ordered the mothership (mash, minty mushy peas, and gravy on top of the pie) fungi chicken pie (chicken, portobello and chestnut mushrooms)

The other dish was a New York steak ciabatta (with amazing chips). We ordered wine and washed the tasty meal down before following it up with sticky toffee pudding and a decidedly evil peanut butter cheesecake (which comes in a glass). We like it here. It's grand and light, and the food is good and reasonably priced. What would we change? We would upgrade the condiments, so that the ketchup is better, and that authentic maple syrup is used on our pancakes rather than golden syrup, which is thick and doesn't taste of much. We would also have preferred our meals a bit hotter, as we felt like we had to wolf it down before it got cold. But these are small niggles that can be easily fixed, and probably will be at some point if the professionalism of the staff is anything to go by. They're friendly, not over-familiar, not too pushy, and they seem to want to go out of their way to make sure you enjoy Cosy Club. The wine list is short, but will hopefully improve in time. As of writing, it's only been open a couple of weeks. I look forward to being able to buy Champagne by the glass!
