I'd walked by this place a few times before. It was usually almost empty whenever I did, but being in the mood for Mexican, we decided to give it a try. The food turned out to be excellent and was very authentic. They have a very extensive menu with cemitas, tortas, quesadillas, mole, and anything else you can think of. The portion sizes were very generous and we were completely stuffed. The quesadillas came with a large amount of meat, and the torta was above average in size. They also brought out a nice amount of free nachos and salsa to start the meal off. The prices of everything were reasonable and similar to other Jackson Heights Mexican restaurants. I feel like a reason this place is so empty is because it looks more expensive on the inside (modern decor) compared to the older and more run down spots like Taqueria Coatzingo. This use to be our reliable sit down Mexican restaurant by 82nd St. I've had their cemitas in the past but today's breaded chicken cemita lacked cheese, tomatoes and flavor. I also tried the nachos with steak, beans and cheese. My first bite was filled with the tough fat part of the meat. Usually the food is good and reliable but tonight it was just not hitting any spots. Even my shake was tolerable, but not enjoyable as it was so warm. Great location for casual dining and drinking, serving affordable Mexican food with an extensive menu, plenty of booth seating, quick service and usually not too packed. I had a beef enchilada which came in a massive portion and was extremely well cooked with delicious melted cheese. As for drinks I had a couple of margaritas, which I believe were made with more natural ingredients than many of the other nearby establishments, meaning less hangovers the following day ;) It has a nice relaxed atmosphere, although the last time I went there was one large noisy group the last time I went and vendors hawking DVDs or flowers do tend to come in every now and then, which I suppose is normal for somewhere located on Roosevelt avenue. Dassit, MY MEXICAN SPOT. If I could give ten stars, I would--because they even gave jolly ranchers with the bill at the end. And you can't go wrong with jolly ranchers. The cesina tacos are SLAMMIN'. They're really good & even if you're full, you're gonna want more. Guaranteed. They put a hefty spoon of avocado, the perfect amount for the taco. & they're not cheap with the meat! They pack that taco like it's supposed to. I didn't have to pick out any chunks of fat or extra crispy pieces. It was seriously an awesome taco. I also got the arroz con leche (bebida caliente/hot drink). It was fresh & perfect for this 15 degree weather. It warmed the cockels of my heart. Really had an excellent meal here. Where to begin? The atmosphere in this very casual Jackson Heights Mexican restaurant is very casual but the food and service were fantastic. The restaurant is also very clean which is always a plus for me. We separately had steak fajitas and a cheese quesadilla. We shared the guacamole. Everything tasted so fresh and home made. The fajitas had bay leaves which seemed odd to me but they actually added a lovely and homey taste. The cheese quesadilla tasted quite unique. The shell had a bit of a crunch to it with an aromatic corn flavor. It was incredibly tasty. The music was great as was the service. As the meal went on, we decided on a pitcher of sangria. I only wish we had ordered it earlier. The fruit was chopped up into perfect little cubes. Small finishing touches like that tell me that they are paying attention. Oh! The pico de gallo was FANTASTIC! This alone is worth the trip. Definitely will go back. Quite a good meal we had!. Highly recommend. Don't have time to waste writing reviews about bad food. Me and my wife ordered frozen margaritas which seeing they didn't have a slushee machine was our mistake. The drinks didn't taste like strawberry nor passion fruit, it just tasted like watered down slushees. We also ordered the Birria combo which included 1 taco, 1 mulita and 1 quesadilla. The idea was pretty interesting so we tried it out. They had decent flavor to them but unfortunately they were really greasy. We had a hard time finding parking and were not able to make it in time to another restaurant so Pico de Gallo it was unfortunately. We ordered guacamole the homemade one..it was a bit odd they had the onions, cilantro, tomatoes and green peppers on the side instead of mixed in already. It was pretty good once I mixed everything together. I got the steak chimichanga which was a bit disappointing. It didn't have much flavor and it didn't have much inside besides rice and the steak. Maybe I'm just greedy but I prefer my food to have all the fixings lettuce, tomatoes the whole nine yards. My friend did like her veggie burrito. My co worker and I were looking to try another Mexican Restaurant since our usual was really busy. We were hungry for some shrimp and decided to order the Camarones al Mojo OMG!!!!! What a party in our tummys!!!! They weren't cheap with the shrimp and the sauce was so creamy and good. They served a goood amount of rice and salad with bread. Needless to say it was enough for 2. My husband who is Mexican native used to love this place but sadly now the quality and quantity of the food has been disappointing. Too expensive for nothing, food does not taste the same. The food is great but ordering delivery is challenging. I normally order through grub hub and seamless but for some reason my address they do not deliver. Yet when I call they do. Unless someone who speaks and understands English takes my order everything comes correct. Any other time, I always have my orders wrong. If I'm paying 30$ and more my order should come correct.
