Adult Hockey League is a joke. You get what you pay for playing adult hockey at this joke of a rink. Poorly ran, referees are drunk, and it's unsafe. This league is nothing more than a bunch of wannabe pigeon goons trying to relive their fantasy of making it to the show. You will he hacked, whacked, and the referees will do nothing other than drink their coffee laced with booze. Total joke. read more

Love this place for skating lessons. They have a great program for kids learning basics that is very affordable. The staff are all incredibly kind and helpful, particularly the skate guard (Alison?) always with a smile and helpful attitude, she's so kind to my daughter. They talked in a very condenseding tone with nothing to offer to help a customer who's simply asking some questions to help little ones get started. Went for a public free skate, Friday from 3-5pm. Got there promptly at 3, only to find that the ice wasn't fresh but as if a hockey team had used it for 4 hours prior without resurfacing. Annoyed. I know all businesses are cutting corners these days, but it literally takes 15mins to Zamboni and some water to make it smooth again. Lazy. Really disappointed. Won't be going back there. read more

I never really learned how to ice skate, because I somehow already knew how to balance and keep myself up my first time on ice. It's always funny seeing people go around and holding onto the edges! So after years and years of dancing, I decided to learn how to ice skate... as an adult. Yes. As an adult. Imagine somebody that never ice skated before. Me. Here. Yep. I came to a public session at Pickwick to give a shot and decided to sign up for the classes. Hey... Why not... Let me tell you how much fun it has been (for months now). Lots of friendly people there. And 3-turns, Mohawks, swizzles and tons of other moves with funny names and challenging body positions... But going back to friendly people! Yes! Brian at the Pro Shop is simply awesome. Always willing to help and take good care of you and work with your coach to make sure you get the fixes you need. When I started, I had ordered beginners skates at a different shop in Anaheim and got a bad fitting. Really BAD fitting. Let me tell you how a bad fitting affects you on the ice: Tons. Heavy tons. Boom. Dangerous. Death (ok... Not really... But you get my point here...)! I got my current freestyle skates with Brian and he took the time to explain to me about the boots and find the perfect fit. Night and day I tell you. He worked with me to find the right blade position based on my coach's guidance as well. Thank you, Brian! The teachers are amazing. Very well trained and friendly staff. I have Mary Lucas as my coach and she is freaking fantastic. A master of edges and figures combined with an uncanny ability to help you correct your body positions in order to execute the moves correctly. She has been so instrumental in helping me achieve my goals on the ice and I can't recommend her enough. Very patient, helpful and resourceful when you have questions or need advice regarding which path to follow during your studies. She cares about your well being and is very supportive! SO knowledgeable about skating in general! And you can't beat her humor! Have a class with her and you will see what I am talking about! 5 stars! Fabulous! Gone with the Wind Fabulous! We have been here a few times with our son since it is close to our home. I want to like it, the old fashion facility and the nostalgia is definitely there but the majority of the staff are aloof or downright rude. Unless you are an experienced skater, you feel like you are taking your life and the life's of others into your own hands trying to dodge spinning figure skaters on one end of the rink, hockey players in the center and odd groups of "locals" standing around on the ice talking. I've never been to a rink where the staff on the ice don't police this sort of thing. Usually all the tricks happen in the middle, the fast skaters take the left, the learners take the wall and no one is allowed to chew the fat on the ice...keep it moving. Today was sort of the last straw for me, who needs the aggravation when it's supposed to be fun family time? read more

Go to any other ice rink and avoid this place. The staff on the ice were very rude. Phones aren't allowed on the rink and they should have signs posted. It was my friends first time iceskating so of course we would want to capture the moment. When we took a picture, one of the staff members rudely scolded us and yelled. He then said he would kick us out if we didn't put the phone away. He also said if only one of us had a phone he would kick out our ENTIRE group. I think that is very extreme and rude. There were kids in our group and yelled at them the same way. It was also very crowded and they did not clean up the ice so by the first hour you were practically skating on snow. They seemed to be having practice on the rink while people were skating. In other rinks, they have separate rinks for public skating and practices. You have your show offs, the ones that are hanging on to the walls, the little kids who will make you dizzy, the ones that keep falling right in front of you and making you almost trip.. So this for the pro shop and sharpening. The guy Ben is awesome. It was a busy night for him and he was still education and patient with us about our skates. My daughter has been skating once but loved it so much she got really skates for Christmas. We called everybody and this was the only place with consistent sharpening availability. Called ahead to be sure Ben answered and said I'll be here all night come on down, we got there in 20 min and as mentioned slammed, like 10 pairs of skates to get done and hockey practice starting. It was only 6 so we had time to kill. Told him take his time. We walked around and looked at the ice and facilities. Beautiful rink. Looked clean and well maintained. Hockey was going on and my daughter was amazed. Not everyone wearing masks (spectators I get why the players can't) despite signs being everywhere. And looked like there were nurses or testing people on site for players. Not sure. Had helpers listed for 16 a rental. Cute little seals. Finally Ben started our skates after a short wait. He laced them up, advised us what guards to get for them, and even advised us to make sure the pants we got (my daughter had to have sparkly skate pants lol) fit as they were final sale. Super kind and engaging. And being so attentive even though he had a long night and making the experience great for my new to skating daughter is priceless. Thanks Ben! read more

Ok public rink. Nearest one besides this is Pasadena I think. Couple negatives. First, the laces on my rented skate were broken and too short to properly tie. Not a big deal. But secondly, and personally more disappointing is that they let anyone rifle through lost and found. I lost a very nice windbreaker ($80+) and came back the next day (less than 24 hours later) to look for it. The staff said "yeah we found it, it's in lost and found!". But it wasn't., and when I told them they insisted they did find it and had placed it there just earlier. So basically, if you lose anything of value here don't expect to get it back. There was even a phone in the lost and found that I could have grabbed! I have emailed the contact email address for the skate rink, and the email bounced. I have also attempted to contact them via the website "contact us" form and that failed also (email server errors). This place is maybe not managed that well.....YMMV. read more

My daughter is taking an ice skating class here and she loves it. I love that the staff is really nice and attentive. The class she was in was full of students but she still got a great experience and even a few moments of one on one time with the teachers. There's a small cafe area which I will use to dress her next time I am there since it's warmer than the rink. I hope she wants to continue lessons here it's a great family venue read more

Wow, some haters but then again it's yelp so no surprise here. I've been coming to Pickwick for the last year and I come here weekly. The staff and the ice are why I choose to come here instead of the other ice rinks. At other rinks I felt they were run by high school kids and could care less.. The staff here have a passion for skating and hockey, put it this way, they help people learn to skate if they see you struggling. Sure.. if you want to be in selfie land and take a thousand pics on a dangerous platform with others who skate around u if you want to complain about not being able to take selfies go kill yourself and next time try asking the people that work there they have taken many pics for me of me and my son on the ice as well as other people skating. Besides just live your life and practice skating this isn't a photo shoot for your Facebook page. Anyway, the ice is well taken care of and I play hockey here twice a week. My son has started playing here and we have our little family do wed night free skate just to work on skating and talk to others who come to do the same. It's become a little community that we really love and enjoy sharing. I have met and skated personally with every single person on the staff including management. I cannot support this ice rink and speak highly about them enough. I say come out put some skates on and try it out for yourself.. Or like some other yelpers just use it as a platform to complain about how ridiculous your (supposed to be fun) experience is.. Most problems are the actual people anyway. read more

Pickwick is one of the more better places to skate regarding ice conditions but the overall place needs some renovation and the management needs a swift kick in the butt. I've been coming here for years to play hockey, teach friends to skate, and watch friends play in their leagues. In fact I have many of my best crashes and injuries (due to the sport) at this rink! The arena is pretty dingy and worn down, rather dim (they have lights but don't turn them all on...going "green"?), and needs a good cleaning. I've never been to the locker rooms but use the benches along the outside perimeter of the ice rink to change and get myself ready to hit the ice. That area is usually littered with used hockey tape, food particles, forgotten articles of clothing, or wet but somehow that doesn't bother me. Like other ice rinks in the area, Pickwick caters more to figure skaters than hockey players. Figure skating takes up the bulk of ice time while hockey players take whatever's left (usually late night or unpopular days). The ice itself have improved over the years with the Zamboni running on schedule. The biggest problem I have with Pickwick is the lack of management. Though there are a few diligent individuals, it's the others that are bringing this place down. My numerous phone calls inquiring about joining the hockey league were never returned (hockey director is COMPLETELY USELESS) and those who do answer the phone seems to be clueless with the weekly schedule. Quite often there were many who managed to squeak through without paying week after week and management was ineffective. Rules upon rules were implemented in hopes to alleviate this problem but were seldom enforced. Some of these people needs to be replaced. There were many occasions where I'd come in for drills and the ticket office door would be closed, which is strange. The ticket window on the outside was never open during weekday evenings. The small sport shop closes before posted closing time, which sucks when I'm in a bind. However the sport shop manager Brian is very personable and does the best skate sharpening in town. Prices are on the high side (for hockey); for example "almost" one hour of stick time costs $15 which is pretty insane. $15 and you have to show up at 5:30 Sunday morning! While that's an optimal way to wake up, the price seems absurd. Drills & scrimmage is $22 but it's on Wednesday evenings from 10:30 p.m. to nearly 1:30 a.m., which makes it difficult for the working population. Large parking lot available to the side and back of the rink. It is my hope that Pickwick will improve soon as I like coming here. read more

Pickwick is my home rink. My mom signed me up for lessons years ago, and this is where I grew up! I remember when I first came here, I thought I was in a time warp-- at any moment Peggy Fleming or Dorothy Hamill would take the ice (even though their Olympic careers were long over). There is an old, comfortable feeling at Pickwick, and it's not just the fact that I've been skating here for years, my non-skater friends have enjoyed their time here too! The ice is clean, and the surface is even. If you come late to a public session then disregard that last sentence, because the ice will be chopped up by then. But don't judge the place based on that! There is a skate shop at the entrance, and that is the only place I have ever bought skates. I trust them with my feet, and my blades. There is also a snack shop. That's usually where parents go to stay warm. Everyone should try ice skating. It's hard at first, but if it were easy then there would be no challenge and no one would do it. Okay, so the last thing I want to say is that there are ice skating lessons going on all-year round, and if you want to skate then I think you should because the coaches are the best, and very supportive. I took all those lessons for years and years and I highly recommend them. read more

Used to go here often. Last year I started trying it out again and was a bit disappointed but not surprised. Yes, it needs some (maybe a lot) of upkeep and maintenance and some (not all) of the workers seem like they hate their jobs on any given night, whether it's "busy" or not. But it's a convenient location just a few minutes from the freeway with easy parking, and a neighborhood favorite, hence the 3 stars. Just don't expect to feel like Dorothy Hamill anytime soon there. I don't know why I never thought to review this business before until I noticed them on Facebook the other day... Of almost all the businesses located in the city of Burbank, I think our most pleasant experience has taken place here. Foremost, we had the pleasure of meeting a truly beautiful pro who taught my daughter her first ice skating lesson ever... Aruse (hope I spelled her name correct) caught my eye from the moment we stood to watch the group classes proceed since we arrived rather early. The happiness on the all the kids' faces while she taught them how to squat was so fascinating... and she did it with such grace. After the groups left the ice, she worked with a more experienced skater who looked like she enjoyed every second of her time with Aruse. This prompted me to introduce myself and my daughter to a complete stranger who we both immediately adored. Although I don't know why, you won't find her picture on the wall as a pro but my daughter (& honestly myself as well) fell in love with her. Unfortunately we were not able to follow through with all the scheduled lessons we had booked with her due to an unexpected family emergency. My daughter won't get off my back because she keeps asking to go back so as soon as we get back on our feet and a bit more organized, I'm going to be emailing her again. Overall, the arena itself was quite clean... classes looked like loads of fun for the kids, the bathrooms need a major remodel but other than that, the staff was friendly and rental skates were upgraded. read more

I am a return customer, although it's been years. I will now be a a regular customer because of Brian! I'm happy to say that the rink is back open *Hooray no more quarantine. I went to get some info about new skates and Brian went above and beyond to help me, and answer all of my questions, etc. He is the perfect face for the company because he definitely is not only knowledgeable, but also a true people person ! I love to skate and Pickwick is a great place to do it. The Public Sessions can get a little crowded, but overall they usually are not too bad. They always post and have accurate schedules online and the staff are great. As far as ice rink bathrooms go, they aren't the nicest, but they aren't bad either. Worst birthday party I have ever thrown for my daughter in the last 7 years. Spent almost $1,000 and the service was horrible. Every request was handled very poorly. When speaking to management I was able to see that this all starts with the way they train their employees. We were pushed out of the room very rudely. Everything is on their schedule. Even cutting cake is when they want to do it. Find another venue if you do not want to be disappointed! read more

I started taking classes here over a year ago. As an adult, I never figured I'd be able to do much of anything but the teachers here have helped me so much and I can see the progress each time I attend a class. I've even learned a couple jumps and spins, which I never thought I'd be able to do. I can't wait for the rink to open again! read more

My daughter had her 9th birthday here. It was fantastic. The price was great. For little more than I would have spent throwing a party at my house, the staff at Pickwick Ice put together a great party for my daughter and 24 friends. Zamboni ride for the birthday girl! Food for grown ups and kids. There was an arcade for kids to play video games when they did not want to skate. We had an ice skating instructor for the kids who were new to ice skating and we even could buy beer for the grown ups at the snack shop. Erica and Natalie helped us and they did a great job. I would recommend this to anyone who has a child who wants to ice skate with their friends on their birthday. read more

Me and hubz signed up for Adult ice skating classes. Ok, we are not going to be Adam Rippon and Ashley Wagner anytime soon..or actually, like, ever, but we were still serious enough about learning to ice skate to pay $204 for classes. However, soon enough we learned that it's nearly impossible to learn anything at this place. A 30-minute class that ends before you blink is followed by the 2h public skating session where you are supposed to master the skills you learned in class. However, the public session after our class on Saturday is a war zone and a disaster waiting to happen. I'm trying to dodge crazy hockey kids and their parents coming at me at the supersonic speed. They are all padded and protected. I'm not! I'm trying not to cut off the fingers of small children whose parents are looking away. There are coaches who take up large chunks of ice and do private sessions even though they are not supposed to and literally cut you off like you don't exist. There are groups of advanced kids trying to do spins against the direction of everyone's going. Small kids on the blue whales get regularly pushed under your blades in an apparent plastic blue whale suicide attempt. I mean come on. There's literally nowhere for us to practice what we learned in class. Basically renders their "Winter Academy" thing useless. We talked to someone at the sales office about it and were met with soul-crushing indifference. I mean come on! We are excited! We are starting on this new cool hobby! We've been watching performances of Plyushchenko and Rika Kihira [insert your fav skater inspo] all month, and that's your attitude towards us? Ugh! That's gross and unacceptable. And you are clearly not here for the love of figure skating. Management just doesn't care to enforce rules or do something to make it more enjoyable for customers. So here's my big fat Yelp 'Meh' for Pickwick Ice. They clearly failed to melt my heart [pun intended]. read more

Locker Rooms are unsanitary and infested with COCKROACHES! Saying it was nasty would be an understatement, plus the staff's response to being notified about it was worse. We found cockroaches in the locker room our youth hockey team had been assigned to use. It was discovered after they came off the ice from playing a game. The kids were changing out of their gear and found cockroaches crawling on their belongings and the benches where they were sitting and had their things. We hurried the kids to get dressed and cleared out of the locker room as quickly as we could and naturally the kids were freaked out. The rink manager was notified because I felt it was a concern and needed to make them aware to prevent anyone else having that same experience--and with expectations that they would at least check/clean the locker room. The Manager's reply was to laugh it off and say that he knows those are in there--he sees them all the time and it's always been a problem, but "not to worry they'll be renovating that part of the rink soon and they'll be gone after that.." He also did not make any effort to check or have anyone else check/clean the locker room. Absolutely disgusting and callous approach to a clearly obvious, unsanitary and known issue by the facility staff. read more

I'm not one to post a review, especially not a bad one... however, I was very disappointed this week when I took my two kids ice skating. My 6 year old son did not know how to skate on his own so I went to the front desk to ask for a "Bobby" (the thing that little kids can hold on to to help them skate). I was shocked and disappointed to find out that it is $15 to rent for the hour and a half session!!! I had already paid about $36 for my two kids to skate for 1.5 hours. I was there with my newborn baby as well so I couldn't just go out on the ice to help my 6 year old. $15 is outrageous to charge for the Bobby. Iv been to the Pasadena rink and it is free there. I will not be back to Pickwick in Burbank again. read more

DO NOT book birthday parties here. I'm not a complainer. I like small businesses and I want to give them business as much as I can. I paid over $400 for a party room, 10 rental skates, 3 pizza, salad, chips and lemonade. The package includes 1 hour party plus 3 hours of iceskating. You have to make the kids eat up chips, pizza, salad and cake in one hour. I guess that's okay, better than half hour, right? But then the staff immediately starts to clean up everything in the room as if to say get the hell out. When kids come back for a break from iceskating and they're thirsty or hungry for a bite, we have NOTHING to offer. I thought I paid for the lemonade which kids couldn't finish in one hour...? After all, what kid would ice skate without a break for three hours? We're allowed to stay in the room for 4 hours in total with a table with the birthday presents and stuff on it but the chairs are all stack up, and staff keep coming in to equip the room for a dance lesson which does not even take place on the same day. How come you can't wait to clean up the room until we leave? Why do you offer 4 hours of the space if you make the customers feel so unwelcome!? Just to be fair, we could bring home leftover pizza (and cake which I bought at some other place). Book a party if you like your kid to be mistreated on his/her birthday. read more

Ice skating was fun but I'm giving it a one star due to the front desk worker and the ice cafe workers and food. The front desk worker gave a lot of attitude and threw the blade side of the skates on the counter almost hitting me. The iced cafe workers also gave attitude, especially the woman, she was very rude while I was ordering. The food was just terrible. The onion rings were watery inside, the service was horrible, and the chicken tenders tasted like cardboard. The nacho cheese looked like melted plastic and the chips were soggy. I also saw them putting the food in the oil from plastic bags! I had a horrible stomach ace after eating the food pls do not order the food here! My child has skated at a lot of rinks and really likes Pickwick. Pickwick's ice is good, the staff is friendly -- especially Jason who does his best to make sure that everyone has what they need. The coaches at Pickwick are top notch. Several of them are coaching elite skaters whom are skating internationally-- including an Olympic hopeful. Brian, in the Pro shop, has been a great help too anytime we need help with skates. He does our sharpening and does a great job! read more

It's an older rink and that shows. Use the lockers at your own risk. The people in the front office told me that sometimes all it does is take your money. Don't forget to bring quarters if you're going to chance it (.75) The change machine wouldn't take my money, the snack stand couldn't make change and the front office didn't have any! They did, however, offer to hold my purse and shoes. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but it's not like I'll never set foot in this place again. read more
