I came here for public skating on Sunday from 2pm-4pm. The place was pretty busy. The ice rink can be pretty dangerous since there are a lot of different level ice skaters using the rink for practicing tricks, and skating. The center of the rink is blocked off for private lessons. The prices are quite expensive. General admission is $14, regardless of age. An additional $4 for skate rentals. As of July, prices will be going up! There are lockers available, $1 for usage. I noticed alot of people just left their items unattended on the benches. They offered lessons throughout the year. *Tip: dress warmly! Bring a jacket! The ice is over-crowded, so I don't know if they keep track of how many people can free skate. The bathrooms are outside in portables and very hot. I don't know how the people getting figure skating and hockey skating lessons have enough space to work. The great part of our visit was that we were attending a birthday party. Parking: You can get discounted parking ($6 with rink validation, only good for the lot on the Southeast corner of Green & Euclid) at the Pasadena Convention Center. On-site parking is $15 for the day--use the East entrance off Euclid Ave. between Green and Cordova. Drive straight ahead and park near the Conference Center sign. It's a nicely maintained indoor ice skating rink that can get fairly crowded. In the center is a coned-off section designated for experienced ice skaters who attend classes there. There are two entrances / exits for the rink itself, with bleachers nearby for those who'd prefer to watch and take a break. There's also free Wifi available, which is always nice to have. Restrooms are located in outdoor trailers on the right-side of the building entrance. Skate rentals are included as part of the entrance fee (discounted price for Pasadena residents available). Should be 0 star - DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE FOR SUMMER CAMP. Coaches are irresponsible. Parents please take a moment to read how my daughter's safety is neglected: My daughter is 6, on her 1st day of summer camp, they went to an underground parking lot to do off-ice training. Then they went to bathroom break as a group. Unfortunately my daughter was left in the bathroom, the group left without her (the coach who brought them to bathroom didn't do head count). She had to walk back to that underground parking garage all the way by herself. She saw no one there, didn't see her group. Luckily she saw a security guard and asked for help. That was how she returned to the group safe. After the incident, the coaches just let her continue, but she started to freak out, cried and looked for me. However no one tried to contact me and ask me to come. Incident happened at 11:xx am, my daughter cried for more than an hour until pick up at 1pm. Can you imagine, a little girl who is traumatized had to sit there for more than an hour to wait for mum. I wrote a very long email to them on the next day (8/6), requested answers on the following: 1) Why did she get to the parking lot without anyone noticing? 2) How come no one in the group look for my daughter? It sounds like no one even noticed she was missing. 3) Who is responsible for this if anything happened to my daughter? 4) Did anyone try to contact me or my husband when the incident happened? If my phone call didn't go through, did the coach try her best to get hold of me by leaving voice mail or text me? I got to know the news when I went to pick her up at 1pm. 5) The camp didn't ask parents to sign permission or authorization form to take the children out of the ice rink, but they took the children out of the rink and went to an underground parking garage where it is extremely dangerous. I DID NOT AUTHORIZE THEM TO TAKE MY DAUGHTER OUT OF THE RINK, WHY DID THEY DO THAT?! 6) request CCTV footage to make sure my daughter is 100% unharmed. Here is the response from the Camp on Friday 8/9: "Apologies for the delayed response, we have been very busy with skate camp. As you know, Jill checked the bathroom to make sure no one was still in there and the bathroom was empty. I can not tell you how she got separated from the group. We are thankful she is safe and okay. We do not have access to cctv, that is not something we are able to provide. We will go ahead and refund you for camp. Again, we sincerely apologize. -Coach Sunshine and Coach Talia" We are extremely disappointed for this kind of reply, especially they skipped all the questions I asked. Then I emailed the Person in Charge of the ice rink but got this reply: "Pasadena Ice Skating Center does not operate this ice-skating camp. Therefore, we recommend you contact Sunshine and Talia who are operating the camp. How come they think my daughter is okay?! Excuse me?! she is not okay. There is aftermath they don't see. My daughter feels unsafe, unsecured, emotional, and being very clingy to me. She doesn't want to leave me. Someone being irresponsible and then leave this aftermath for me to handle. I even feel very guilty for sending my daughter there, I feel very sorry for her as she refuses to go back to the rink to take her private lessons. We have to end our partnership with her two beloved coaches (which last for 1.5 years already) abruptly because of this. I cried and cried and cried, I don't want her to leave her coaches, but there is no way she can go back. She said she doesn't want to go back because she doesn't want to think of the incident, which makes her feel scared. They refunded me, in the hope that they can get rid of me, get rid of bearing the responsibility. BUT, this is about the safety of a 6 year old is neglected. This is child endangerment. P.S. my daughter started her skating journey here from Tot 1, until now she is Free Style 4 level. She skates 4 days per week, for more than 1 year, established a very loving relationship with her two coaches (Coach Victoria and Coach Wendy). Now that we have to end everything here because this is an irresponsible ice rink with irresponsible coaches (Coach Sunshine, Coach Talia and Coach Jill). Their hours vary as they have private lessons during the day where they don't allow public guests inside so call in advance to see! Came by during holiday week right when it opened. The rink was fairly empty right when they opened, but within an hour, the rink was insanely packed. They also don't have a lot of the kid friendly bars for the rink, they ran out really quick. The skate for our toddler was really stiff, we weren't able to get her foot into the skate and the largesse was too big. Also, prices are same for everyone unless you're a Pasadena resident and senior. Even my 2 year old who skated for less than 5 minutes was charged full price. They really should limit number of people on the rink, definitely unsafe at times. read more

This is a satisfactory place to skate. It is conveniently located in the sense that it's close to me, but there is very little around - so if you wanted to have lunch, then walk here to skate, your options are very limited. The ice is clean and well maintained, but: * admission is higher than it should be, for skate sessions that are shorter than they should be. * hours are not clearly communicated on their website, and I've shown up to skate several times when they were closed for special events. Is it that hard to update your website? * public skate sessions are set for inconvenient times, particularly for kids. Their holiday public skate blocks are terrific - if only this is what they offered year round. * skate rentals are terribly uncomfortable. I remedied this by buying my own skates because I just couldn't use the rental skates one more time. * the parking situation is lousy. Because it's located next to the convention center, your choices are: (1) pay a million dollars for convenient parking; or (2) park a little further and read the street signs very carefully, because many streets have 1-hour or 2-hour limits. It would be nice to offer validated parking in the lots or have a dedicated parking area, but nope! * hot cocoa is watered down and just plain lousy. read more

I've been taking group lessons once a week here for a few months now, and I usually come 2x week! Negatives: 1. Parking is difficult at busy times. Street or garage are both paid. 2. The weekends are particularly crazy! During public sessions, there is a circle sectioned off for private lessons. It can get really crowded. 3. Often the rental skates are pretty dull (though I assume that may be true of most rental skates at other facilities too). 4. In the classes, skill levels vary a lot. This isn't necessarily bad, but it can be challenging for instructors to cater to everyone. Positives: 1. I really enjoy the coaches (esp Ellen & Sunshine & one whose name I'm forgetting)! Every coach has a different style, so it's helpful to try a couple different classes to find a fit. They will guide you if you're planning to buy skates. They try to give individual attention in the group classes, esp if it's a weekday class. If it's a big class, they get multiple instructors. 2. On the weekdays (esp mid-day) it's not typically crowded. That's the best time to go! It's great. Mostly adults. 3. Once you finish your lesson, you can stay on the ice for no charge. I believe even if you're coming for public skate you can leave and come back for no charge. 4. They have hockey stick time and parties. Overall I enjoy going here! What a fun time! A tip before going to have a more enjoyable experience: - watch a video on YouTube on how to properly fall, how to brake, balance, and move on ice! Now that we went over that... here are some things to keep in mind: 1.) parking can be validated, park at the parking lot that is mentioned on the website, call in if that's what you prefer 2.) hours vary so call to double check 3.) there are no ins and outs, if you need to use the restroom you can find it at the first right from entering the skating rink entrance. 4.) Skate rentals are complimentary, not the gloves or socks.. so bring a pair (and extra) just in case they get wet. You may also buy some at the rink as they sell some. 5.) if you're not tolerant to the cold, make sure to bring warm attire to bundle up with 6.) if it's your first time, you will most likely fall... mentally prepare and have fun. The faster you fail, the faster you learn and the more fun it will be. Focus on one skill at a time. 7.) For people who want to sit out and watch, there are bleachers outside of the rinks. 8.) There are refreshments available to buy in the vending machines 9.) There will be an intermission to Zamboni the ice, this is the perfect time to have a short rest and go take a bathroom break. 10.) I really wished that they made everyone were helmets because my mom hit her head hard on the ice after slipping (luckily, she's okay and it wasn't too serious). I came here for the Saturday public session and I was very surprised at how horrible it was, and I love ice skating. Some of my comments are not a big critic of the place, as I know not everything is in the rink's control, but they all added up to an overall negative experience. 1. Difficult to find parking; you need to pay for all options, including the street. 2. Public session was only 2 hours. This is fine since most skating places only offer 2 hours, but I felt this was worth my time for the following reason. 3. The biggest criticism I have for this place was the rink itself. It was crowded with a lot of people. All the skaters were going everywhere, which made it difficult to skate. They also sectioned off 80% of the rink in a big circle in the middle for private or group lessons, with about ten instructors and students all learning a different lesson. The instructors were not looking out for the public skaters and would randomly step outside the cones in front of me, and I had to skid to a stop or make sure to go around them. It was stressful to constantly make sure I was not running into inexperienced skaters as well as people who are supposed to be professionals. On top of an already limited rink, even though it's a PUBLIC session, one instructor decided to put up additional cones and section off a corner of the rink for their student, which made the rink smaller for everyone else. There was also a staff member on the rink WITHOUT SKATES walking around. He wasn't making sure the patrons were skating safely or in one direction. He was also making it another obstacle to maneuver around in an already crowded and restricted ice rink. Why have a public session when patrons can utilize the whole rink? You should not have classes occurring at the same time as a public session. Overall, it was a crowded, stressful, and chaotic experience to be skating here during a public session. I'm not sure if all public sessions are like this, but my one experience is enough. Some fixes: Have Public sessions and group lessons during different times so they don't interact. If you have staff on the ice, make sure they're wearing skates and that they're monitoring the patrons to ensure safety of all guests. The staff was most often getting in my way and I had to maneuver around them. If you must have classes during public session, make sure you're quartering off the rink on one end, and not a huge circle in the middle. read more

Pasadena skate is an indoor skating rink that is a bit larger then many other indoor and outdoor rinks in the area. They do not have complimentary parking there are a few parking garages around about. However, none are validated for ice skating. There is also street parking although during certain hours it might prove to be harder to find. My friend and I arrived around 8pm, in different cars. I found a spot to park Brody, that's my car, and met up with my friend in front. With the holidays, attendance was projected to be high, and there were a good amount of people out on the ice. The indoor skating was a different experience then the outdoor as there ino view. I quickly got over that and enjoyed it for what it was. However this time I had my peacoat stayed on since it was a little bit more cooler. I know I know what you're thinking what is she doing with those red and white stripped gloves and their fingerless haha. I thought they were fun and full of holiday spirit perhaps lol. Admission was $11 and $4 for the skates making it a whopping $15 bucks each person. I think it was totally worth it and I hope to buy a pair of skates. Once fee is paid a stamp with the word skate is stamped on either hand and then skates could be rented out (if you don't already have your own). After getting the size I needed, I found a bench to sit on and put skates on. I had ballet shoes on but I made sure to bring a pair of socks. I also made sure my skates were nice and tight yet comfy. Skates were in fairly good condition and they also have lockers for your belongings. Most people left their shoes underneath the benches while they are skating. Nevertheless, I hopped on the ice and all those feelings came rushing right back. I thought to myself it would be nice to get my own personal pair. There were many people--bumper to bumper inch by inch on the wall. Nevertheless there was a nice amount of people actually skating. After about 35 minutes or so we were told to come off the ice so it can be remolded and rid all the lines everyone's skates created. We came off the ice and sat down on the benches to give our legs a tiny break. That didn't take much time at all maybe 10 minutes or so. Then we skated for another 45 minutes and then decided that enough was enough. Plus we were both starving by this time so we were thinking something light since it was late. We took our skates off, returned them to the rental section, and thought it would be a good idea to find the restrooms first before we left--there were two sets of men and women restrooms out back. As we were leaving the employees acknowledged us leaving, wished us farewell, and happy holidays. I really enjoyed myself and will be going skating again sooner rather then later. Overall, it's a pretty good price for the classes and you get to practice at public skating after your lesson. OMG, I haven't been to this ice rink since high school (circa 1998). Brings back a lot of nostalgia. Open skate, couples backwards skate, etc. My daughter got invited for a party here and it was her first time ice skating. The instructors are really nice and friendly. Came during winter break for schools, so it was probably expected - but would think there would be some type of people mitigation for safety reasons for both Covid and general ice skating measures. Gosh what a cute rink! I still need to train during my vacation so I came for the Adult Lunch Bunch and they are a ton of fun. It's a nice NHL-sized rink so if you're use to that you'll have no problems adjusting. There's a coach on duty at all times on the Lunch Bunch sessions so if you ever need a pair of eyes, they're there to help you. It's $12 for admission, which is basically freestyle ice prices. I think it's well worth it but in my experience California ice time is a tad expensive. I guess considering the climate, it makes sense. I don't have much experience outside of those sessions, but if you're a wandering figure skater trying to keep your coach from sending lasers at you because you got rusty on vacation, this is a solid option. read more
