We also tried the pan sautéed walleye which looked a little pale but tasted perfect. The squash and zucchini were crunchy and flawless. We had a full order of onion rings for two people which was a huge mistake and probably should have been shot down by the waitress. Way too much. Service was prompt and friendly. I received a gift card for Pickwick through work and decided to bring two of my colleagues for their lunch, arriving right as they opened at 11am. We were seated immediately and had an amazing view of Lake Superior. Their lunch menu is nice with a large variety. I opted for a half sandwich with their daily soup which happened to be some version of "creamy cheeseburger" or something similar. It was a pretty typical wait time for our food and the serving size was about right for a lunch. The quality of the food was fine and the flavors were good. The chicken sandwich was good, but lacking any substantial flavor. The soup was creamy and warm but nothing spectacular. I don't think I would seek this out as a lunch spot but I wouldn't be opposed to going back. read more

So I have been traveling through IA & MN for work and I would typically not have two burgers in a week but (See review of Wilbos in Cedar Falls) but Pickwick featured the Pepper Burger. Starts as any other burger and then they put Pepper Jack Cheese on and flash deep fry it. It comes out looking like a chicken sandwich. All the flavor is trapped in the burger with a crispy crust on the outside. Tip - cut in half so juices don't come flying out. Amazing and unique burger. Loaded with flavor. Food was out in less than 7 minutes. Had an overpriced bland meal at a "nice restaurant" yesterday and this blew it away. I sat in the bar and the with the traditional wooden German kegs an their Stein collection the decorations are amazing. Friendly staff / Great place.... Outstanding waitres Cassie!!! Delicious Walleye! Out of this world onion rings...truly (I typically don't eat friend onion rings but these I couldn't pass up, even the dipping sauces). The cosmos were perfect and they have an extensive wine collection. Hubby much enjoyed the hard to find Dahlwinnie 15 years whiskey. The included salads were perfect and too large! The sautéed Walleye serving is enough for 2 people but we didn't know that so by each of us ordering our own we had leftovers. They also came with a big mound of mashed potatoes that were delish and some properly cooked zuchini. I wear a size 4...after this meal I think I'm now a size 6! Cassie was so personable, knowledgeable and prompt that she got extra tipping. Told her she should be in sales! Loved this evening. Decor is anciently beautiful. The Pickwick reminds me of my childhood, eating lunch after church with my grandparents! It'a a beautiful and historical building, with glass stained windows and wooden bars. The onion rings are my favorite onion rings on the globe (see pic for details). I was shocked by how much I enjoyed my dinner here. First off, the building is stunning - its a historic building with lots of original detailing and a gorgeous view of the lake. The service was also quick and friendly, and we easily made reservations without any hitches. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms to start and had complimentary bread basket along with it. They were delicious - cheesy goodness with generous portions. I got the broiled walleye with a side of zucchini and a baked potato. The walleye was sooo good, although the zucchini was a bit plain. My wife has been here before and said the onion rings were the best. We started out with onion rings and artichoke dip. The onion rings are huge with a well seasoned coating. Plain dipping sauces, a fun sriracha Mayo would have made them perfect. The artichoke dip was on point. The Italian sausage really added a lot of flavor and the toasted garlic crostini was perfect for the dip. We shared the pepper burger. This was best deep fried burger I've eaten. Pickwick is one of those restaurants that we've always said we want to visit and then wind up skipping for one of our known favorites when we're in town. So this time through, we made it a point to get there. I'm glad I did. First, for those of you who are not local, this is a really OLD restaurant. If you believe the back of the menu, Pickwick traces its origins back to 1888 and claims its est. date as 1914. But given that the blurb on the back of the menu ends with "but you can't believe everything people tell you. Just what's written on the back of a menu," it's your call about how much stock you place in that. At any rate, it feels like an old German restaurant where a woodsmith or a guy with an accordion just might stop by your table. Second, these people really know how to cook beef. Man oh man. If you are a steak lover, go here. I had my once-a-year craving for something lighter so I chose the beet salad with the tenderloin on top. It was SUPER good. Like even though I didn't finish it, I took the rest home and ate it the next day even though I generally hate leftovers good. We also had the Pickwick Tidbits appetizer, which are basically beef tips cooked to temp, served with lovely grilled mushrooms and covered in bernaise sauce. Also, since clearly you need a boatload of carbs, they come with enormous pieces of grilled bread. Which are delicious. Which I totally ate completely. They should really just double the portion size, slap some veg on the plate and serve an entree version of this thing. Yum. Third - the rest of the meal was totally fine. Service was fine. We had a lovely view of the lake and the Fitgers parking deck out of our window-side table view. But STEAK. I could feel my red cell count rising as I ate. It was delicious. read more

I stopped here for lunch with friends after a four-day hiking vacation on the North Shore. We were all hungry and cold. Covid safety protocols were in place: seat yourself at tables spread apart. There are still plenty of the Pickwick's signature sandwiches, salads, and entrees to choose from. In our party we shared an order of walleye fingers and two Reuben sandwiches, one with fries and one with Pickwick's distinctive giant onion rings. I thought the walleye fingers were fine but not memorable. Same with the Reuben: a little heavy on the sauerkraut, lacking in some other flavors. Perhaps I'm simply spoiled on Cecil's outstanding Russian Reuben; nothing else compares. I've gotta say, though, the fries and onion rings were outstanding. Fries totally crisp; onion rings perfectly cooked so that the onions inside were sweet and just the right doneness and the coating crispy and satisfying. For food alone I'd give three stars, but the beautiful decor and nice service bumped it up to four. read more

So all the appetizers were amazing full of flavor but the steak is 54$ and taste bad had no flavor so the char on it made it taste like burnt meat and I ordered my steak rare. I had to ask for A1 sauce for flavor. The restaurant is a great place just don't waste your money on the steak. read more

This was my first time eating at Pickwick's, and I am not disappointed. I would consider this restaurant more on the fancy side than most restaurants, so plan accordingly with dress, hunger, and wallet contents. The food is a bit spendier here, but you are getting your money's worth. Between the bread, an appetizer if you choose to get one, a salad up typically get with your main course, and your main course, it would be surprising if you finished everything before the end of the night. The food itself was phenomenal. I ordered the Vegetable Kabobs and loved the pasta and sauce that came with it. With my dinner, I ordered a mojito, which was a bit mintier than I would prefer, but delicious just the same. Our table was also placed right next the widow that overlooked the lake. What a pleasant surprise this place was!!! We stayed close at the Sheraton and really wanted to avoid canal. I almost didn't go into the Pickwick as I wasn't real sure what it was but we deceived to give it a try. What a beautiful place. Gorgeous old restaurant with a ton of history, original woodwork and an amazing view of the lake! The service was exceptional from the hosts to our amazing waitress and management stopping by our table to check in! The food was excellent, my kids had typical kids meals (buttered noodles) but they were excellent! My husband and I had the prime rib and it was amazing! One of the better prime ribs I've had. My boyfriend ordered the Atlantic Salmon, which came with zucchini and squash and mashed potatoes, he rates it a 8/10 due to vegetables not having a ton of seasoning. This is a great stop if you're coming from the Cities to Lutsen (for example). The servings were generous. I had a club sandwich and bowl of chowder and it was enough for two meals. The walleye fingers were great. The people in my group loved the wings. The cocktails were good (Bourbon Smash!) and a decent beer list. We had excellent service too (you rock Alex). This place is horrible! The prices are high, the service is poor. We spent 2 hours here for a birthday party. The food took so long. Our waitress would not refill our cups of water, not clear the plates. This was the worst meal by far we had in all of Duluth. The staff needs some coaching if you want to stay in business or lower the prices. We were really looking forward to eating here as we come here all the time when we go to Duluth. Nearly 100 years old, but yet a "newborn", the Pickwick ("the Wick" to locals) has always been a Minnesota favorite, and has been operated by the same family until this week. The new owners have modernized some of the infrastructure, and will be "updating" (horrors!) the menu. First pic of the new bar area (below) shows that they have increased seating, extended the bar itself, and added more seating at the bar (formerly, it just had 8 highly coveted stools). Looks like the have lightened up the room a bit, and possibly removed the plethora of dead animals and fish that previously hung on the walls and replaced them with flat screens (horrors, again!) (Can't we go anywhere, anymore, w/o having to watch television?). Minnesota Burger Reporter Kawikamedia and the Minnesota Burger Posse were there for Pickwick Pepper Cheeseburger the opening last night, and reported nothing had changed, apparently, in his usual (and favorite) Pepper Cheeseburger and onion rings. But he added an aside, that the "true test" of the burger is how it tastes after a night in the frig (like I believe the test of a pizza is how it tastes after a night on the kitchen counter!). Still waiting for that verdict. The Wick has retained their charcoal broiler for steaks and fish. One can only imagine they kept the various local fish entrees, featuring Walleye. Or one can hope. Word is they will be opening the 2nd floor, previously unused space, as a wine bar. The group started with the Pepper Poppers, before launching into the burgers. After running Grandma's Marathon I was ready for some prime rib. On Saturday night it comes in two sizes - 10 and 20 oz. I got the 10. It had some fat but not too much, and it was well prepared. I sat at the bar - the bartenders are friendly and enjoyed chatting up the customers. There is a decent selection of taps and wines by the glass. The bartender mentioned they are the oldest restaurant in Duluth and yet it was cozy not dated. The back dining room has a nice view towards the lake. read more
