What evidence do I have to support my contention? I'm glad you asked. Exhibit A, and without question the restaurant's Pièce De Résistance, is the lentil chili. Now, I know what you're thinking - chili is supposed to contain meat and only a communist would proffer such a vaunted title on a vegan dish. Right? I used to think the same way, but the delicious balance of chili seasoning and fearless heat of Pickleman's take on this classic makes it one of my go-to late night dishes when I'm hanging out downtown. Exhibit B is composed of the salad selection, which features options to suit many tastes, all of which contain genuinely fresh vegetables in addition to their specific peculiarities. That may seem like a simple thing, but seasoned salad eaters know it can be rare, indeed. It may seem weird to lead off a review of a sandwich and pizza place with two options that are neither, but I've honestly never had any reason to venture beyond that side of the menu because they're both so delicious. And that they do those things so well is more than enough reason for me to juice their rating, whatever failings other reviewers have experienced notwithstanding. read more

You actually order to the far left, and when we came in the guy had his head down so we just moved down the line because there isn't the typical window where you can see sandwiches being made. He finally looked up and said "order over here." We weren't the only ones to make the mistake.. They had to charge us twice because they clearly didn't listen, number 5 and a small salad for here. So he just charged me for the salad, then said I didn't tell him about the sandwich, then they bagged it for to go... ‍ It's a pretty big place so normally you shouldn't have a problem finding a seat. I have visited the Downtown Store multiple times as I live in walking distance. There have been issues with the order taking and what I make it home with. I don't understand, when placing an order a ticket isn't written up and given to the customer wo proceed to the register to pay. Tonight, when placing the order I repeated it 3 times. A half cranberry walnut salad and a half of bbq pulled pork sandwich on wheat. Proceeded to the register to pay and the same individual taking my order received my payment. Again, repeated my order 2 times. While waiting another worker ask me what I ordered and what I wanted on my 1/2 bbq pulled pork sandwich. Clarified and repeated that my sandwich was a half bbq pulled pork sandwich on wheat. I just wanted banana peppers added. repeated a second time. Waiting, adjacent by the door to the register area, the manager ask me if I was waiting to pay for my order. I told him that I had already payed. I get my order and walk home. My sandwich was a Cuban sandwich with no bbq sauce. Home, undressed in comfortable attire and did not walk back down to the store. Disgusted. If you're into surprises and trying new things, then this is the place for you.... because whatever you order will not be what you get. Myself and three companions went in and ordered an avo-cobb salad, chopped chef salad, chicken salad sandwich (not grilled), and turkey sandwich (not grilled). If you're into hunting, the avo-cobb salad is the one for you! You will be hunting in the forest of lettuce for any egg or avocado. We ordered delivery from Pickleman's in downtown Springfield and enjoyed all of our food!! The pizza toppings were fresh and crisp, especially the spicy green peppers. The cesar salad was a hit (you can add some extra toppings for no extra charge!) and the lentil chili soup was so delicious! Still super hot when it arrived. You've also gotta try their sandwiches. I'm 69...I got hired as a delivery driver and fired three days later ... No real reason except that I wasn't a good fit! The food is good... I've been a driver in one capacity or another for 37 yrs. when there were no deliveries, I washed dishes, made chocolate chip cookie balls, emptied trash, swept the floors, wiped down tables & chairs. I didn't take breaks. Coke a Cola had a huge order (which I took) and the GPS took me to the trucking part of Coke instead of the business office. First off, Tina should have her cell # on the order for new drivers, 2nd, someone should have gone with me so, the problems I had could've been avoided and introduced me WHICH most jobs do ... I apologized and explained what happened and I'm sure that's why I was fired. I am an outgoing person and will do whatever is asked of me but, this was just wrong. My frds who know me as the caring, outgoing person I am...are appalled at this. I really don't care anymore...but, what they did to me was wrong, period! The other thing ...I had to read and sign their company rules...no visable tattoo's, no piercings except one nose...and others OF which sure are not followed at the Springfield location. There were several items that you could make vegan. The staff was nice. Some didnt seem like they wanted to be there. Our order came out in waves. The pizza was last due to cooking time. I used to be a huge fan of Pickleman's but now it's just okay. I recently ordered a pick-up order of a Chipotle chicken sandwich. I added on some veggies and got a half a pickle to go with it. I'm not sure how long it has been, but they no longer sell the Calypso drinks (super bummed). Overall, it just seems way over priced for a sandwich and a pickle. I paid $10.65 for 1 sandwich and a half a pickle. Honestly, there are other sandwich shops out there where you can get a much larger sandwich for the same price and same quality (Jersey Mikes, Jimmy Johns, etc.). BOTH were delicious but I ended up getting the broccoli cheddar which was equally good. Amazing grilled cheese with mozzarella and provolone.
