Capturing the magical essence of the place.

Walking into Slap Box is like being let in on a secret. It's not trying to impress you with flash; it earns your respect with substance. There's a small, charming patio out back--checkered tablecloths, string lights, the whole damn thing--that feels like a well-kept secret garden for those in the know. But let's talk about the pizza. Because Mark, the owner, is a man of particular and admirable obsessions. This is not a man who cuts corners. He's the kind of guy who will toss an entire batch of sauce because the tomatoes weren't singing the right song that day. That level of fanaticism is rare, and you taste it in every bite. The pie that landed on my table was a thing of beauty, a glorious, messy masterpiece. At first glance, you'd think the sheer weight of high-quality, locally-sourced cheese and toppings would sink the whole operation. But then you bite in. The crust--a sourdough base--is a goddamn revelation. It's got this artisan grit to it, a satisfying chew and a crisp underside that stands defiantly against the onslaught of flavor above. It's bread that craves more, and it gets it. The cheese pull is the stuff of dreams, a beautiful, chaotic stretch that promises and delivers pure joy. And the wings... oh, the wings. We got the teriyaki and the so-called "taco" style. Don't let the simple names fool you. The teriyaki wasn't that cloying, sticky-sweet glop you get from a jar; it was deep, complex, with a hit of umami that whispered of South Asia. The taco wings? A brilliant, weird, and utterly successful fusion. Spiced with a fierce intelligence and served with a sharp hit of lime, they were the kind of dish you can't stop eating even after you're full, a dangerous and delicious habit. This is what we search for. A family-owned joint where the care is in the crust and the soul is in the sauce. It's a breath of fresh, unfiltered air in a world of bland conformity. If you're new in town, or even if you've been here your whole life and just didn't know where to look, this is your place. This is where you go to feel better. Slap Box gets it right. And in this business, that's everything.

This was my first time here and my high expectations were met! Amazing food (I got the Arma Segreta 2.0 Pizza and Franks Traditional Hot Wings). Amazing service - such kind, cool people. Love the ambiance when the sun goes down with the outdoor seating and lights. This place isn't quick, but the hour wait was worth it and gave me and my daughter an excuse to go right down the street to Sequiota Park to see a marvelous sunset! 10/10 experience

Me and a few came here with some high expectations, which were not met very well. We started with the Street Taco Wings, which had a good tang to them and were very juicy but simply lacked a satisfying crunch. Then we got the El Camino and Torta Supreme Pizzas. These Pizzas had such amazing flavors, but those said flavors kept falling off every single slice! Both of the Pizzas crust were way too flimsy to hold the topping which just made the general eating experience very unpleasant. Overall, Pros - Amazing flavors, very nice service and great tone/ambiance Cons - The Pizzas crust being flimsy, and too much cheese (Somehow).

this place is so so good it has gotten very popular recently, and definitely deserved! they have a great variety of specialty pizzas and all of them have been great so far. i don't think you can go wrong. they are also pretty large in size. my husband and i usually split one and have leftovers. the wings are amazing with great seasoning. they also have a fridge inside where you can chose beverages (including alcoholic) by the singles and the 6 packs. so that's cool if you're sharing. they have a cute patio to the side of the building with umbrellas to sit at. about 6 picnic tables back there i would say. other than that there is no other seating. and NO indoor seating. so i would plan to pick up and take home in the winter or for bigger groups for sure. the ranch is also pretty dang good! give it a try!

Ok, Springfield folks. I don't know how many pizza's I have had over the years (it's a LOT) but I don't have any doubts that Slapbox is absolutely the best I've ever had! They are at: 2932 S Lone Pine Ave, Springfield, MO 65804 We did their Margherita pizza and cheese bread (half eaten in the pic) for a starter. The cheese blend makes your tongue wanna beat your brains out for the next bite. Second time we've been and wow! Kudos Slapbox!!! And a great sense of humor too!

Kept seeing posts about this place, so we had to stop by while we were in town. The pizza, cheese bread, and tiramisu were TOP NOTCH. I will be thinking about the delicious crust on that pizza for a while. The staff was super friendly and the location itself was really neat. Do yourselves a favor and check this place out. You won't regret it!

Great pizza dough and great toppings. I got the Nona's pizza last time. It's all taken care of out except for a small patio out back.

Amazing pizza! Great flavor like I've not gotten at other pizza places in town. We will definitely be going back to try other combinations.

LOUD AF on a Tuesday night with incredibly slow service…read more I like to eat in local places while we're on the road. Read about this place being historic with a beautiful bar and lovely tin ceiling. And that is all true. Walked in and could not believe how loud the single singer with an acoustic guitar was. There was a sound engineer, working a board, so he must've thought that level was OK. But you could not have a conversation at all. I was wishing for earplugs. When we first stepped in, I considered just looking at the carved mahogany bar and going somewhere else. But, we figured it should be fast and we could endure the cacophony for a short time. We were so wrong about it being fast. There was only one wait staff working that night, and she was also behind the bar. When she finally moseys over to us, she admitted she had forgotten all about us. She then took our drink order, and the drinks came quickly. But then she literally never came back to take a food order. Watched her go to all the other tables, watched her clean off the bar, watched her answer a phone call for a takeout order, and then I finally went up to the bar and asked her if we could put in a food order. Once the food was ordered it came out quickly. My husband's smashburger and candied pecan salad were both really delicious. I am a sucker for a local food item whenever I see it on the menu, and I made the mistake of ordering the cashew chicken poutine. The cashew sauce had zero flavor and was just overly salty. The chicken was fried very tough. At least the cheese curds were good. But I barely ate any of it. Nothing but regret about this choice.
