I have been eating at Piccadilly since I was a child and this chopped steak has had me on lock for at least 25 years. It's literally the only thing I eat no matter which Piccadilly location I may be visiting. This chopped steak slaps. I visited this location for lunch last week and I cleaned my plate. I got the large chopped steak meal, the rice was counted as a side. I had to choose another but ended up buying an extra side anyways. If your grown get some onions because I forgot. Of course to be sure to get extra gravy if your eating it with rice. Carrot soufflé has ALWAYS been my go to side and it tasted amazing. I added the squash and zucchini and as the extra side and it was good good! I love great tasting vegetables and this hit it on the nail. The food was fresh, I enjoyed my lunch that day. The total was about 16$ with my extra side and I would pay for that every time cause it was just that good. Don't forget you to grab you some ketchup if your like me and I could see A1 being good on this even though I haven't tried. You also have a choice of a roll or cornbread. The rolls are pretty good in my opinion. I could imagine with butter and honey it would be fantastic. The To go staff here was nice, smiling, and happy. They accept tap and pay which was great because I forgot my card and still was able to eat. Of course food here isn't going to be seasoned down bad but it's far from bland. Freshly cooked comport food served cafeteria style. My favs are the hamburger steak, country fried steak and fried chicken. The sides are delicious and freshly cooked in house. The Mac n cheese, cabbage, black eyed peas and mashed potatoes are my favs. All the desserts are delicious as well, my favs are the hummingbird cake and pecan pie. You could order each thing separate but I always get what they call the Dilly meal, which is your choice of meat, two sides, and a bread of your choice. I always get the jalapeño cornbread, but my husband loves a Fresh Hot yeast rolls. read more

I haven't been to a Piccadilly in about 20 years. My memory of the place included terribly bland and overcooked food. Welp, 20 years later, sadly I had the same experience. The food was bland, watered down and the pie tasted like dirty water. The three of us that ordered could not finish any portion of our respective meals. This was definitely a waste of time and money. I first learned of Piccadilly's during my first tour of Baton Rouge without ever realizing it was a chain until I finally gave in and tried the joint. With the exception of fast food (Hello Raising Canes! http://www.yelp.com/biz/raising-canes-baton-rouge), it always seems to me major chains don't fly well here where local establishments garner so much of a name. The place was spacious, one of those places where it looked like I was about to eat in a dining hall at a community college. Arriving during heat of the lunch hour rush had me a little worried at first, but save for a few tables of senior citizens, the place was practically empty. One of the guys behind the counter was telling me this was pretty typical, citing a nearby popular establishment that "takes all of the business." Shuffling my tray along the line while collecting a bowl of jambalaya, a few sides of corn, okra, and a mini salad, had me reminiscing about my elementary school days - 'cept our choices were usually pizza, burgers, and chicken nuggets. And while most canteen / cafeteria style joints serve a pretty standard array of obese-laden American fare, the more telling aspect is that it's almost always bland. Sadly, that's what most of my food, along with everyone else's in my party, was on par with the trend as well. Killer fried chicken though, I must say. It wasn't the cheapest cafeteria style food either. The main dishes ranged $8-13 with $2 sides which racked up a nice little # by the time we reached checkout. Bland food with an inflated price tag had me suddenly thinking this "other local establishment" (that likely serves up a heartier, less expensive version of the same stuff) didn't sound so bad after all. read more

I attend Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church, which is on the same side street. I often will stop at this Piccadilly location either before or after church, especially if I am pressed for time and need somewhere that I can eat quickly. Piccadilly fills that need. The food is always good, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are always efficient and friendly. read more

Visited 1/28/17. Our waitress was a nice person. The restaurant was clean. The food was poor. I've eaten virtually the same thing at Piccadilly for years. The food has been getting worse and worse. Saturday's food was next best thing to inedible. I brought my fried chicken home. It's sitting in a box in my fridge. It will probably go out with the trash. I went to the expense of buying dessert. It was a waste of money. I commented to my husband it was the flattest cheesecake I'd ever seen. It must have been sitting there since lunch. It tasted like bland cheesecake flavored plastic. It was hard to push the fork through. The cashier was outright rude to my husband when he gave her a coupon. She had to get up off her stool to look at the register tape and it was just a major imposition. I miss Piccadilly. The crappy restaurant I went to Saturday night was a poor, poor substitute of a once great memory. read more

I have never been a huge fan of cafeteria style restaurants, but for the price and selection of genuine Cajun cuisine, Picadilly cafeteria is the bomb. They make the best seafood gumbo full of fresh shrimp, oysters and crab meat. And you can get a bowl with a piece of garlic French bread for under $5! I have been going to this place since I was a little girl, and when me and my family go back to Baton Rouge to visit relatives or to go to LSU games, we always visit this restaurant at least once. The service is great and the price is always right! (My favorite game show, behind Family Feud.) Anyway, Picadilly has everything from shrimp creole, crawfish etoufee, seafood gumbo to chicken and dumplings and chicken fried steak. This is the one I go to when my grandfather wants some quick food to bring home. He loves the red beans and rice and can't get enough of the cornbread. He's a super picky eater so for my favor grandfather to enjoy this place is a huge compliment. I love I love Piccadilly Cafeteria! I know "cafeteria style" restaurants can I'm negative connotations on some people psyche,I guess you can say it's one step below a buffet. However I'm not prejudice or one who discriminate. As quirky and condescending as this sounds I mean no disrespect. The typical crowd are akin to the ladies you would see at the bingo hall,fancy church hat and the kind who never miss an episode of Jeopardy. As soon as you sit down first thing you do is fill your cup with a glass of sweet tea. Okay the food. I'm talking fried okra,sour cabbage,spoon-bread, fried and blackened catfish with tartar and a side of lemon and don't forget dash of hot sauce. Roast beef with sauce. i've had corn pudding and let's not forget the sweet yams. Occasionally I would see some pork belly and of course Fried oysters which I had to have with slaw.A real treat is when I would come in after church and piccadilly have crawfish étouffée. Crawfish étouffée and a piece of sweet cornbread would be my last meal on earth I could have it that way. I was usually too stuffed to saddle up to the dessert table. There is nothing like this is Northern California!! The only thing I can compare it to would be a buffet or a salad bar but the French Quarter restaurant at Disneyland is the closest thing I've seen. You line up and select an entree and two sides from a wide array of dishes laid out before you. There were at least seven or eight entrees and well over a dozen hot and cold sides. Pick your bread and get an optional dessert and drink. The price is moderate, comparable to Chipotle, about $12-$15 per person. We got chicken fried steak, fried okra and carrot souffle. All three were scrumptious and the portion sizes were very generous. The spanish cornbread was too salty to eat but that was the only disappointment. This California girl gives Piccadilly a big thumbs up and we'll come back next time we're in town!! read more

Once THE must-go-to-after-church spot in Baton Rouge, the decades have not been kind to Piccadilly. Offerings now best compared to the fare one might expect in the nursing home. The dish described to my curious companion as "white fish amandine" was at one time their highly popular specialty, trout amandine. Although my companion seemed pleased, the several bites I had were mushy and bland. She chose not to finish her Caesar salad, complaining that the croutons were soggy. Veggie side dishes are always the high point in my opinion, with Southern favorites such as fried okra, turnip greens, black eyed peas, and sweet potato souffle. As usual, I got a sampling of the veggies and was mostly pleased. The jalepeño cornbread was the winner on this trip. It was offered as an option with my veggie plate. The recipe must be one of the items unchanged through the decades, still possessing the beautiful texture, color and piquant flavor I recall. I could easily see buying a box of these to go for a barbeque or Southern-style lunch. Piccadilly has filed for bankruptcy, I learned about a week ago. Its sagging fortunes maybe a reflection of its diminished menu and luster. Some nostalgic relics of restaurants are able to endure for a combination of reasons, which usually include a resolute commitment to dishes of unchanged quality, both in ingredients and preparation. Sadly, Piccadilly has not remained so resolute, with the results deflating for both the diner and the company's bottom line. read more

Hospital food is now way better than the food you can get here. I was told before I knew that Yelp existed that this restaurant was pathetic and to not waste my time dinning here, but I was talked into going here by a group of co-workers several years later and I have to say I was not impressed at all. I would think that the price would be reasonable for slop food and it really was not. I highly recommend never going here unless you are forced to go here or you want to be a team player amongst peers and/or co-workers. read more

I've been eating here since I was a little kid, so Piccadilly holds a special corner in my heart. That being said, they've taken a major downhill slide in the past few years. We routinely eat here with our kids (who love it), but on the last trip my daughter found inedible "plastic bits" in her chicken & dumplins. Upon complaint, manager on duty refunded the dumplins, a whopping $2.50, but nothing else was done. The adult side of our table has had issues with food quality vs. price for quite a while now. Unfortunately, we will not be going back; and this is a very, very sad day. RIP Piccadilly! read more

I used to eat at Piccadilly in 2003 while on a project that had me traveling regularly to Baton Rouge. I loved their carrot soufflé so when I knew I'd be driving through again 13 years later I had to stop. I did read reviews of several Piccadilly's in the area and this one had the best reviews. So I bit the bullet despite the horrid reviews and went anyway to this location on Florida. We arrived at 11am sharp on a Saturday and WOW the food was great! I had the fried white fish, fried okra, carrot soufflé, and jalapeño cornbread. All were good and I left nothing on my plate. I suggest going when they open and the food is fresh. I used to work in a similar cafeteria in high school and these places are hit and miss depending on time of day. Over 25 people were waiting outside this restaurant this morning in the heat. The manager takes customers for granted when he cannot open restaurant on time. He finally opened door at 11:04 am. MANAGER, WE ALL HAVE THE SAME TIME NOW ON OUR PHONES!! Secondly, after we got inside, the serving line was staffed with only one young girl who was visibly frustrated herself. Had a pretty horrible and racially charged experience at the restaurant this morning. One of the people in our group was basically physically threatened for merely asking for a cup and told to "Go sit down white boy." From the moment we entered it was clear from the staff that we were not welcome in this establishment. To be fair to the restaurant, they did do one right thing. Another customer was disgusted by how my friend was treated and went to get the manager. The manager, Scott, offered to clear our ticket. However, the damage was done and I will never return to this restaurant. Do yourself a favor and find a better option. read more
