For a pizza I went with an arrabiata, which was basically a cheese pizza with calabrian chili and a little extra cheese. It was quite indulgent, and also garlicky, with a nice charred crust that flopped in the hand and was a bit damp towards the center (generally a marker of quality). I enjoyed it enough that I didn't wish I was somewhere else, which in Asheville is saying something, and I liked the innovation on the menu. And surprisingly, I can't recall having been to any other high-end Neapolitan-ish pizzas in Asheville, so maybe this is the one that will stick.

I selected the kale salad with pumpkin seeds, currants, lemon, and olive oil to start. The kale was chopped small and dressed well. My main course was the lumache pasta in lemon cashew cream sauce with spinach, squash, and tomatoes. The squash and tomatoes were firm but not raw, adding nice texture to offset the pasta along with cashew crumbles. Lastly, was the hummingbird cheesecake, a honey cheesecake with toasted banana pineapple cake pieces. The dessert was very good and the presentation beautiful but I think I prefer a crust on my cheesecake. I found that everyone worked together like a well oiled machine. The hostess served my water, others cleared my plates and brought clean silverware every course, the manager served my main course without disruption, but my server was a constant presence checking in and making me feel taken care of. This is a really nice restaurant, so at this point I was pretty convinced either we weren't getting seated or my friends were going to spend the rest of their marriage talking about the dinner I ruined. I explained the situation to the staff and they could not have handled it better. No judgment, no making us feel out of place, nothing but an insane level of hospitality from the second we walked in. They even sent out a few dishes on the house. Our server Riley was phenomenal. Riley knew the menu inside and out, gave us all the information we needed without overexplaining everything, and never steered us wrong once. We basically put our dinner in Riley's hands, and that was probably the biggest reason the meal turned out as well as it did. And the food was fucking incredible. Not "we're drunk on a wedding weekend and everything tastes good" incredible. Every single one of us said it was one of the best meals we've ever had. And I don't say that because my culinary experience is limited to Applebee's and the Cheesecake Factory. I went to probably half the restaurants on the Michelin Guide while I was in Asheville, live in Atlanta where I've eaten at plenty of Michelin-recognized restaurants, and have been fortunate enough to eat at Michelin restaurants outside the US. Gemelli is in the heart of Biltmore Village, and I could see parking being an issue if you don't get lucky. They do have their own private lot, but it's not very big. We did get lucky and got a spot right up front. They do have reservations available, though we were able to get a table without one right away. I'm sure the need for them is very seasonal, we visited just before "leaf season" really cranks up. We started with arancini, and this was an excellent version. Crispy outside, tender rice and cheesy inside. Bathed in their vodka sauce, which maybe seems to be their signature sauce as most of our order came with it. That's a good thing, it's an excellent sauce. We also got bread service... which I would not do again. Bread being complimentary is still mostly a common thing at Italian restaurants, so for me to pay for bread, it better be something amazing. In this case, that was money I could have held onto. It was good, but, I have had better complimentary bread at other places. Minor lesson learned. We ordered a small plate of meatballs (2 meatballs well sauced and about the size of a racquetball) to have a bit more protein with our pasta dinners. They were excellent as was the red sauce they came bathed in. Very deep tomato flavor, great spices, would love a meatball sub made out of these. My lasagna ranked in the top 3 I have ever had, and I consider myself nearly Garfield-esque in my love for lasagna. The pesto on top, and the burrata-like cheese used in the layering set it apart along with again, delicious sauce... including a lake of vodka sauce that it was served in. I was pretty full, and the half I saved was delicious the next day as most lasagna is. I have one solitary complaint other than the bread. It's nice and all that one of the employees took my food to box it for me. But I was kinda mad when I opened it the next day to find they didn't box up any of the vodka sauce left on the plate. That would have made for even better leftovers, and I have no idea why they wouldn't think to spoon that in there. What a waste. Regardless, would definitely come back again for another meal to try other things. It will be hard not to reorder the lasagna!!

Never knew I would like this. It was so satisfying. We want to make this st home! Our drinks were the LA SUECA RED SANGRIA - garnacha, tempranillo, orange slice, strawberry, cinnamon, nectar. Very satisfying. Also the SPARKLING White SANGRIA - perelada cava, cognac, gin, triple sec, grapes, and blueberries. This was the best. If you only get water, I recommend the Vichy Sparkling water, it has a little salt flavor, add a twist of lemon and it is refreshing.
