I'm leaving this review despite the restaurant already having closed because it's been literal years, and I'm *still* mad whenever I remember my experience there, and I need closure. I thought I had already left a scathing review after my experience, but for some reason, I did not. I don't remember what I ordered the one and only time my husband and I ate at this restaurant, but I do remember that it was inedible, so I sent it back, and ordered something else. Later, when the bill arrived, I saw they had charged me for half of my first meal. So I flagged the server about it, and they were like "well you ate half of it " and I explained I had taken 2-3 bites, the later ones simply to make sure I did indeed dislike it, and then my husband had a bite to confirm I wasn't tripping and that it was in fact terrible. 3-4 bites was NOT half the meal. It wasn't even a quarter. When I tried to push back on that, I was told "well, we know what our portion sizes look like, and half the meat was missing." The crazy part about this is that they seemed to truly believe I had gotten double the meat portion they had actually put in front of me. It was enraging. We paid and vowed to never return. I have told anyone who would listen about the time a restaurant refused to comp an entree that sucked because they accused me of l y i n g about how much of the meal I had consumed. The crazy part is that my husband and I would have returned to try this place again had the staff just believed me from the jump that I wasn't trying to pull a fast one. I normally am never happy about a restaurant closing, but Piastra? Good riddance. read more

We just had most RACIST experience here.....AVOID this place like a plague. We ( Indian and my daughter) visited this place. We were completely ignored....wine/appetizer order put in after 20 minutes...came to table after 20 more minutes....and NO bread....while every other table was given bread in 2 min, order delivered to table in 10-15 minutes.... After 40 minutes, still no one came to get our food order.....so obviously , we called for check and paid & left. We had decency to pay, even with such a horrible experience. IF this establishment has any shred of decency, they will investigate this, at mininum send apology to us....if not , refund our check . People....AVOID this place like a plague. read more

My wife and I have dined here twice now; once on our wedding night and again on our Anniversary. Neither time did they disappoint us, but this most recent visit my tagliatelle nero di mare pasta could have benefitted from a little adjustment. The overwhelming flavor came from the dried Calabrian chiles, which had not been reconstituted properly into the sauce, so it also left me wondering whether the gritty bites came from that or if the clams & mussels had been cleaned properly. Regardless, the sauce lacked depth. The fresh pasta clung together in clumps, an indication that the chef had not mixed it diligently during the cooking process, but from a visual perspective, it looked to be on point. I must confess, the lamb carpaccio is one of the most distinct, unique dishes that I have tasted in quite a while; as a caveat to that, it is a bold flavor profile, so if you prefer a neutral, familiar red meat such as beef, proceed with caution and an open mind. My wife had the lobster and cavatelli, which was by far the most fully developed dish of all, creamy savory richness coating slightly dense bites of pasta, reminiscent of gnocchi, and the lobster was definitely present, which is the exception rather than the rule with most creamy dishes advertised to contain lobster. Our server was attentive, professional, polite, personable & well spoken. I can't say that I have any critiques in that area. Though she did not introduce herself, I presume she was the owner, came by to ensure that our meal was more than satisfactory. Even the lady tending to our drinks revisited the table with diligence. The inside has a very open floor plan, although it could probably have a layout redesign so that some tables don't make some patrons feel as though they are in the way. The decor is a blend of industrial chic with modern, local art lining the walls, most pieces being slightly above average amateur status. They have a private dining area dedicated to larger parties if you plan ahead and give them notice. There seemed to only be one lavatory for the whole restaurant, but it's possible that I didn't look long enough. All in all, a nice place for Italian food if you want to break free from the typical American-Italian offerings. Our meal was $130 for two entrees, two glasses of wine, an appetizer and a desert, with tip included. I'd say that's about on par with just about every other restaurant that doesn't have a drive thru. Buon appetito & mangia! read more

We have eaten here a few times and have never been blown away; the food is always just okay. I will say in the past, the chicken parm is really tasty, their homemade rolls are great, and we recently tried the aranchini which we liked! But the spaghetti and pasta sauce was bland, the lasagna was unique but couldn't tell what I was eating, and their mocktail was just super sweet. Service was superb! read more

We enjoyed a great experience here for dinner for our Anniversary. We got a window seat. The waitress, Maddie, was very sweet and accommodating and was fairly knowledgeable of the menu. The restaurant was quiet, quaint, and very charming and had that vintage decor and feel. They are renowned for their wine list and I had a glass of a delicious, slightly sweet Cab with dinner. We started with the Arancini which was delicious as well as a green salad. I had the special for dinner of Risotto with Lambchops and a Huckleberry glaze and was it scrumptious. The lamb was very well prepared and not overcooked. They were grilled. I did feel that some of the food was devoid of necessary seasoning. The owner walks around and greets you to ensure that you enjoy the meal. That was a nice touch. Parking can be kind of time (surprising for a Wednesday night), but the Marietta Square is often very busy during the weekend and weekdays. I recommend them for date night or a dinner with family. read more

This place is great! We pretty much only eat out at Italian restaurants and this is one of the best we have been too. The food is all made in house and absolutely delicious. I would show pictures but we went to town on our meals. The vibe is also very authentic and it feels like a small restaurant you could find in italy. The service was also spectacular. Went there on a date night and sat in picture window. I'd call vs utilizing the online app to get a table, very accommodating staff. I had the carbonara, she had the chicken Marsala. We both had a few unique additional requests that more than catered too. Food and ambiance is great, staff is even better even in a full-house, busy night. I had seen this restaurant a few times before when we were at the Square for other activities. For whatever reason, we always seem to have been there more at lunchtime so this place was never open. When I got tickets for a show at the Strand Theater, I saw this listed among the handy places to eat, so I made a reservation for 6:30 p.m. We arrived at the Square a bit early. The navigation app I was using recommended parking about a block away at a pay lot, and there seemed to be no spaces + heavy traffic around the Square anyway. I found the lot and ended up paying $6. It was just across the railroad tracks west of the Square. We arrived at the restaurant about 20 minutes before our reservation. They looked busy, but did have a free table, so we got seated. They seemed to be about one server short versus the size crowd they had, but the staff managed it. Their layout is (facing the place) a bar area on the right and a large dining room on the left. We entered via the bar, as it was the first door we came to, but I think you're supposed to enter via the left door for dining. They accommodated parties from 2 to 10 when we were there. Our server got our drinks and then brought our complimentary bread - a large, warm roll and some smaller melba toast type pieces. It was good. Their wine list was good. Our server then told us about the specials. I got a squash ravioli dish while my wife opted for a trout special. We split a garden salad, which was easily big enough for that. The lady who I assume was the owner, as she was circulating between tables and chatting with guests, stopped by to ensure we were okay at this point. Pacing on the meal was leisurely. I don't mean that in a bad way, but if you normally budget an hour for dinner, you may want to buffer in 15 extra minutes. I never felt rushed or delayed though. Our food arrived and I was surprised by the sheer size of the ravioli - I only received 2, but the food volume was easily as much or more than I'd normally get in another Italian restaurant. They were huge! We opted to skip dessert so we were able to finish our main dishes, barely. I was really full, though. Prices were reasonable. It isn't quite up into the 'fine dining' range. The value for the food quality is good, though. I'd consider returning here, though we don't seem to wind up in the area at dinner time much. read more

We came for dinner after seeing a show at the Marietta Theatre in the Square. We were early (5:45) and were seated promptly. DH and I shared a Caesar Salad, I had the Branzino (whole - YEA) and he had the Towahawk Pork Chop. The food was delicious, and our server was wonderful. Topped it off with Cappuccino and a Chocolate Cake with a warm caramel sauce. The owner came over to check on us which was lovely. Everything was great and we will be back! read more

Such a charming, cozy Italian eatery - with indoor or outdoor seating! But most importantly, the food is delicious! With a talented in-house chef/ co-owner, each dish was delicious from fresh tuna to shrimp and house made gnocchi and fresh peach salad appetizer. Known for its pastas. It took its over 2 years of living next to Marietta Square to give Piastra another chance after a substandard first experience on Easter 2021. With restaurants like Hamp & Harry's, Mac's, Silla del Toro, Two Birds, etc. right around the corner, we didn't feel the need to spend $150 on what we found to be lackluster food & service. This experience was, unfortunately, even worse than the first. We sat outdoors for our 6:45 reservation and were promptly asked if we wanted regular or sparkling water. We asked for sparkling and received both. Ok, worse things have happened. Next, we had an employee come to our table and ask us if we knew who our waitress was (narrator: we didn't.) Our waitress finally arrived and took our drink and appetizer orders. We ordered calamari and arancini and a couple cocktails. Drinks and apps arrived pretty quickly to the table. Sadly our silverware was left behind. We asked a passing busboy to bring us some utensils, which proved to be too big of an ask for the poor kid. A second attempt with a passing waitress 10 minutes later was more successful. We got our silverware and dug in. The calamari was undercooked - the breading was soggy and pallid, the squid slimy and firm underneath. We did not finish the plate and waited for the waitress to ask if everything was ok (narrator: she didn't). The arancini was fine, but had grown cold during our silverware ordeal (we just tucked in to the calamari with our hands, as you expect to have to do in a nice restaurant). We finished our drinks as they were removing the app plates and waited 15 minutes for anybody to ask if we needed another (narrator: we did.) Entrees were carbonara for my wife and cavatelli with lobster and fennel seed miso for me. I asked our waitress if it was Japanese miso as it's an odd ingredient in an Italian pasta dish - she replied that it was hard to explain and that it was different from the Chinese miso. Based on her description, I decided to roll the dice. Carbonara was decent, with the only note being that some of the pancetta was a little tough given the large, inconsistent dice. The cavatelli had a big portion of lobster, which would have been great if it was fresh and cooked properly (narrator: it wasn't.) Lobster had a fishy taste and was rubbery as a result of being overcooked. The lobster shells I found mixed in with the pasta dish gave a nice contrast to the rubbery lobster and gave my teeth a good break-test. It was also an interesting choice for the waitress to arrive with the bread basket for the table as we were finishing our entrees instead of before we even order. Really avant-garde stuff you wouldn't expect normally. The cherry on top was getting the bill and seeing that they included a new feature where they charged us for the ice in our cocktails. Let me say that again: THEY ADDED A $2 CHARGE PER DRINK FOR THE ICE IN OUR COCKTAILS (narrator: see the attached photo.) I waited to ask the waitress about the extra charge, but in keeping with the theme of the visit, she never came outside again. We paid the $8 for our ice, tipped her in full, and vowed never to return. Sadly, we spend a ton of money at restaurants in the square - Piastra will have to sell its ice to tourists instead. Update: The manager found my bill and comped our meal unprompted based on this review, which was very nice of him and appreciated. He explained to me that the $4 charges were for larger shots, which I am still confused about. If I order a double whiskey, and my drink costs twice what my wife's single vodka costs, I don't understand where the extra charge comes from. He said my double drinks were 4 oz pours instead of a normal 3 oz double pour (narrator: they weren't). I still don't understand the extra cost, but at least it wasn't for ice. We'll take that as a win. read more

I received a service in the square and decided to stop in while I waited for traffic to die down. My experience was "okay". I didn't have a terrible experience but it wasn't mind blowing by any means. Pros: easy to sit at such a busy time on a Friday evening. Staff are generally kind and attentive. (I did sit at the bar). Very reasonable pricing for food. Cons: The staff although kind to me were often bickering and mean to each other and I heard just about all of it while eating my meal and being at the bar. I had a new bartender who was very nice and attentive but kept telling me and other patrons "it's my first day alone...". Which we all understood and tried to calm her nerves. The food was cooked well as far as doneness and temp but relatively tasteless. I had to doctor up my leftovers when I went home. I just got the calamari and the white pizza so nothing spectacular. Overall I'd probably not return just to be able to try another restaurant Update: The owner responded after my post with the copy and pasted reply that he wished I said something when he "visited me" and he in fact DID NOT. We really enjoyed a date night out at Piastra last night. I like how they have different art decorating the walls, much of which looked like it was for sale. As we were waiting for our drinks the chef/owner came by to visit. He explained his menu and made a few suggestions for us. We really enjoyed talking to him as this was our first visit. What also impressed me was that he was active. He saw something that needed to be done and he took care of it himself. We ordered the calamari and it was very good. Lightly fried, not tough at all. There was also fried pepper rings that really balanced the dish. There were two sauces that came with it, neither had much flavor but it wasn't needed anyway. The bread showed up at the same time as the appetizer. Seemed a little late in the process. I ordered the tagliatelle with clams and mussels. It had just the right "zing" as the chef said to balance the richness of the dish. My only constructive feedback was the pasta was very al denta. Maybe on the verge of tough. My wife ordered the ravioli. They are massive! It was filled with broccoli, cheeses and a hint of truffle. "Tree and cheese" the chef said. The filling was really tasty. None of the flavors overpowered each other. Again the pasts was very tough. More than al dente. We started to ask the waitress about it, but since both dishes were tough we just assumed that's how the pasta is prepared here. It wasn't a deal breaker, just not as good as it could have been. We also had an order of truffle fries. They were fresh cut and tasty. All in all a little mixed, but we had a great time. We will be back to try some other dishes soon. read more

Not good at all! This restaurant had a great menu but they chefs could not execute on it. The food was bland and it was like the chefs didn't know that when you cook with wine you need to allow the alcohol to cook off! It was disgusting. I ordered a veal dish and it was literally a slice no lighter than my hand and paper thin. The sauce on the pasta was heated up thinned out tomato paste basically. It was tasteless and acidic. We ate because we were starting ingredients but i paid for it with reflux all night. These people need to hire someone who knows how to cook. read more

Came here for a friend's birthday, and while the service was good, the food was underwhelming. I ordered the Bolognese, which was definitely not Bolognese. It was a very sweet pureed tomato sauce with some meat added to it. A Bolognese is a meat sauce flavored with a bit of tomato paste, not a tomato sauce flavored with meat. My GF got the pizza, and the dough was not good. Undercooked and doughy, with absolutely no chew to it at all, almost tasted like a cake flour or gluten free flour. Several people got the butternut squash ravioli and received two ravioli the size of a calzone that was filled with diced squash, definitely not what you expect when you order ravioli. I've never seen a butternut squash ravioli that the filling was not pureed. I think you could make it work without pureeing, but the ingredients would need to be a very fine dice to make this work. The textures of the large diced squash just do not work in a ravioli. Just looking at the ingredients in their "carbonara" and I should have known I would it was not for me. I'm sure many people would enjoy the food, but it's definitely not traditional Italian. read more

Came in with the family to enjoy a night out. We had an amazing dinning experience, especially with our server MJ. She informed us of the specials and wine of the week. The food was superb and so flavorful. The restaurant is so family orientated with such a beautiful atmosphere. You can't go wrong with this restaurant. We will definitely come back ! read more

Came here with a couple of friends. Ordered the calamari, dumplings, chicken piccata, prosciutto e rucola pizza, cannoli, and banana panna cotta. Out of all these items the only thing that was good was the panna cotta. The calamari was soggy, dumplings were mushy, the chicken piccata was bland and unseasoned, but the WORST offender was the so called "pizza". The description for the pizza said "thinly shaved prosciutto, marinated tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and baby arugula." The dough was equivalent to pita bread, I don't even think it was pizza dough, it was bland, it was pale and not even baked. The prosciutto was rancid and definitely old and not even thinly sliced. The rancid odor of the prosciutto could not be hidden by over cooking it which seems to be what was attempted. The tomatoes were old and not marinated, the "baby arugula" was spinach that was just piled on covering the disgrace of the greasy so called "fresh mozzarella" which was equivalent to sliced prepackaged sandwich mozzarella. The cherry on top is that the pizza doesn't even have any sort of sauce to add flavor. The pizza was dry and greasy all at once which I didn't even think was possible. It was awful. That was not pizza. The cannoli had a greasy and stale shell with grainy filling. We couldn't even finish the food it was so bad. Our server, Cheyenne, was great and understanding and comp'd the pizza but the hostess had a bad attitude and we didn't feel welcomed. read more

We had a private party at Piastra for my son's wedding rehearsal. The food, service, and ambiance were amazing. The banquet menus for family style included the house salad & bread with roasted garlic. Everything was excellent. The favorites were chicken alfredo and the baked grouper. This was our first time at Piastra. The place was so quaint and the staff was very friendly. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The food was rustic Italian. I had the Chicken parmigiana it was well seasoned and tasty. My husband had the lasagna with a meatball on the side. The lasagna was sliced thin and long rather than the traditional square which I thought was very cool. It did have a lot of char on it. I think that was supposed to be a technique but my husband didn't enjoy the taste. He mentioned it to the waitress, not expecting anything and she was quick to take action and make it right. The meatball was delicious. It was my birthday celebration and they brought a birthday cannoli which was delicious. It was definitely a place we will go back to. read more
