Came here for our anniversary dinner and had never been before. We arrived early but they were able to seat us immediately. Our server was MJ and she was fantastic! Her descriptions of the food were spot on and recommendations were perfect. Easily the best espresso martini I've ever had. The food was good Italian-American. For the price and for the ambience, it was enjoyable and very pleasant date experience. The drinks were excellent, as was the chocolate cake. It would take a significant step to make this a Michelin five star or to make it less than a four star, because the food is good but not so far above "good" to make it noteworthy. We were the last patrons at the restaurant arrived around 9:40pm; just enough time before their closure @ 10pm. We had just walked in from the Dinner + Play @ the Marrietta Theater Company - watched the 5 Course of for Valentine's weekend. We were worried that the restaurant would close early. But, was saved on dinner hunger from the wait during the play to curb our appetite! To my surprise for an Italian restaurant, servers were friendly with close attention to our needs and food was awesome! Despite the mixed yelp reviews and low quality photos, I had an amazing experience here! I sat outside to get better pictures of my food, so it was a bit humid and hot but the host refilled our water super often which was nice! Our waitress was super friendly and made conversation with us and good recommendations. I love how gluten-free friendly Piastra is! So many gluten-free options for appetizers, pasta, pizza, and dessert! They have gluten-free bread, and I'm pretty sure it's homemade by how it looks. It was delicious with the olive oil and my non-gluten-free friend loved it too! For appetizers we shared the gluten-free calamari. It was crispy and tender and the dipping sauces (garlic aioli and roasted red pepper) paired perfectly with it. My main entree was the gluten-free rigatoni domenica. The housemade fennel sausage and sauce were super flavorful. It's enough for two servings; I took half home. You can't even tell the pasta tastes gluten-free. My friend enjoyed the tagliatelle vongole (hand-rolled ribbon pasta with little neck clams). Dessert: Gluten-free chocolate cake topped with warm caramel sauce. The chocolate dome melted over the cake when the waitress poured the caramel sauce which made for a nice video and interactive experience. The cake was so gooey, fudgey, and moist. Definitely share with someone because it is quite sweet. Ugh. I am so torn. First, let me start off by saying--we WILL come back. This is a super close and adorable local Italian restaurant nearby so we'd like to get another experience in the future. I digress... LOCATION/AMBIANCE: Located on the Marietta Square, so if you're a local, you know about the parking situation there, but if not-- weekday nights are a little slower and you have a better chance at finding street parking, otherwise head to a lot. I loved the adorable "window seats" Piastra has, it definitely gives "small town charm" from the outside and the warm low-light on the inside with only a handful of tables feels quaint and romantic. A cute date night spot! FOOD/DRINK: It's "Dry January" for us, so we passed (again, plans to come back!) but the offering of water or Pellegrino is a nice touch! *Appetizer* The four of us split the Arancini to start. Nice presentation and good flavor. Crispy on the outside with fluffy risotto on the inside. The sauce it came with was also flavorful! *Pastas* Two of our friends are gluten-free so that's partly why we chose this place. The menu is VERY gluten-free friendly, and you can order most items gluten-free if that's needed! One person ordered the Gluten-Free Carbonara, she regarded it as "good" and the portion size was gigantic but she took the leftovers. Two orders of the Rigatoni Domenica (one regular and one gluten-free), and the sausage in particular was DELICIOUS. I had a few bites of my husband's dish and I love the fennel. The pasta overall was quite nice. I ordered the Tagliatelle Nero di Mare, which came out looking beautiful. HOWEVER... Upon first bite, there was something very hard and spiky in my mouth. I tried to get it out with my tongue, but upon using my fingers, we quickly discovered a piece of metal that was rolled INTO the actual pasta (but hey, at least you know they're making their pasta!) It looked like a piece of a Stainless Steel Scrubber. I pulled the piece out with pasta still attached to it and hesitantly poked around at the dish. Our server came by to check on us and I explained the situation, so she offered something else or to replace the dish. The second plate, I noticed, had less clams and mussels than the first (photo is first dish)... and I wondered if that was a coincidence or if when they remade my plate there they noticed I had already eaten a clam and mussel so now I was getting less? Again, could be total coincidence. The pasta (the second time) was delicious, but the sauce just left me wanting a little more. Whenever we come back I'd like to try something else. SERVICE: The hostess who seated me first immediately offered me some water while I waited for everyone to show up. Our server was sweet and helpful, but just a few things I noticed included: she never brought out bread until the metal in my meal. I don't know if that's a standard practice at this restaurant but it looked like she immediately brought out bread when her other table was sat. She also was thoughtful enough to put in an order of the gluten free bread for our friends, but didn't point out when she set the bread basket down that the crackers included in the basket were not the gluten free bread. It wasn't until after she came back a few minutes later with the GF bread that my friends realized the cracker-like slices they had been eating weren't the GF option. Also, no one came over to our table or apologized for the happenstance with the piece of stainless steel in the pasta. Again, when I told the server she was apologetic and offered a solution (which we love! that was great!) but I just thought it was a little odd that a customer had a piece of metal scrub brush in their mouth after the first bite and no manager or owner had said anything. OVERALL: We will come back! It seems to be a neighborhood gem and we don't want this first occurrence to be our last. So until then, CHEERS! read more

Pleasantly surprised by this eatery, my friend and I shared two pasta dishes. We tried the giant corn and truffle butter ravioli and the domenica in spicy red sauce. The ravioli was creamy, buttery and very delicious. The Domenica was incredibly flavorful and a great contrast to the ravioli. Also had the house chardonnay which was delicious. I really wanted to like this place. I moved close to the square about 3 years ago and finally made time to try it out. I love local spots, but I think I would prefer Carraba's over this. First, I want to say the place is decorated nicely and the staff is friendly. Our particular server was a little busy the night we came so our service wasn't the best but we were not in a rush so I can overlook that. It was the quality of the food that left something to be desired. It did seem like everything was made from scratch but it also gave off the impression that it was made a day or two prior. Some of the food almost tasted reheated. We had the lasagna (pictured), carbonara and a cheese pizza. We also ordered the fried risotto. The lasagna was decent but nothing special. The carbonara lacked seasoning. The cheese pizza was fine. The risotto balls were luke warm on the inside which gave it a reheated/ warmed from the freezer taste. All the staff I interacted with, and especially our waitress, were friendly and attentive. They saved our take-away containers after we left them at the table and we picked them up a few minutes later. I was impressed by that. The food was hit and miss. The flavor of the malfatti appetizer was mostly just cheese and was mushier than I expected for something that was pan fried. It was much less interesting than I was hoping for. The Rigatoni Dominica was cooked well, but the heat of the chiles overpowered the sausage. The bread was very simple, which was fine, but the garlic butter dip didn't add as much as it could have to really make the bread great. My date was less than impressed by the fettuccini carbonara. I'd say give this place a shot if you're near Marietta Square and are in the mood for Italian. Just don't expect to be blown away. read more

We went here for dinner last night. We started with the malfatti (WOW - delicious flavor and a unique dish) and the arancini (not so wow - kind of dry). I normally take forever to decide what I want to eat but the indentro dish sounded right up my alley. That's a seasonal dish that they switch up, so when I went it was a ravioli with butternut squash and pesto. I expected a traditional ravioli dish with soft butternut squash inside but it was very different. Imagine one large ravioli, with chunks of butternut squash inside. I wouldn't order it again but my family loved their dishes, which means maybe I need to try those. Mom and dad split the vitello (veal) cooked piccata style which comes with pasta and my sister got the bolognese. They were happy with their meals (so much so, my parents forgot to offer me some.) I will say, I did have one of the best espresso martinis here! Also, a woman who I believe is the owner, came by to say hello and ask about our experience... that's another plus in my book. Piastra in Marietta, GA, is an exceptional spot for Italian dining, and was one I had initially discounted because of its small external footprint. Inside is much bigger, though, and inside is some of the best service I've had on the Marietta square. In particular, our server, Bracen's, service made our experience so memorable. From the start, Bracen was attentive and went above and beyond by quickly clarifying details about the cello flight. The food was top-notch: the lasagna was rich and flavorful, with perfect layers, while the deep-fried risotto and cheese balls were crispy on the outside with a deliciously creamy center. We finished the meal with a house-made cello that was impressively strong yet smooth--a perfect ending to a wonderful dining experience. I love Piastra. The restaurant is quaint, service is always on point, and they're consistent. I could eat their rigatoni domenica for the rest of my life, and that's saying a lot because I need diversity in my life. She's rich, a little spicy, and very flavorful. I also love how gluten free friendly they are. They offer gluten free bread sand gluten free pasta. I appreciate how accommodating they are AND delicious. If you order gelato, they give you so much and will give you multiple flavors if you ask. I recommend the mango since it's very refreshing after a meal. We ordered chicken Alfredo for one of my kids and she only got the noodles without any chicken . Two other kids got spaghetti which didn't have any taste and too much cheese . The meatballs were made out of sausage and kids don't like it . We ordered pork chops with spinach and fries . The meat was ok although too much grease . The spinach was so so salty that my blood pressure went up. The fries were so old I couldn't eat all of it . The waitress was supposed to bring bread as part of appetizers and she never did ! It was my husband's birthday and I asked them for something special . They promised to bring cannoli and they never did !!! I don't think I'm ever coming back to that place .
