A last minute decision to eat here proved to be marvelous. Hostess was warm and welcoming over the phone when we called in half hour before their opening to see if they had any tables left. Welcome at the door was friendly and we were seated quickly and offered drinks immediately. Our waitress, Natalie, was exceptionally warm, friendly and knowledgeable. So were the servers. My ravioli was perfect - cream sauce to die for and my husbands tomahawk pork chop was awesome! Cooked to perfection and plated beautifully. I usually do not eat at Italian restaurants but I was invited and had to do it. There was an event here that was a food and wine tasting and I was so happy to be a part of it. I met some wonderful people at the event and have to remember what I was told, but there were people there who have visited Italy and had some great suggestions on how to go like a local. The food and wine were spectacular. They all were well thought out pairings and I enjoyed each one. I must say that the wine was certainly a highlight especially the dessert wine. Finally got to dine here this weekend after hearing good things from another gluten free friend. I was really happy to see the entire menu was laid out with GFs for the items the chef was able to make gluten free. Easy to understand and our waitress was helpful in telling us how the GF variation was prepared. Great service. We started with the gluten free version of the MOZZARELLA SCOTTATO- yes homemade mozz. SO delish. My critique here is the mozz wasn't fully melted. Still a little undercooked. But it did taste great. I asked about bread and they then brought out a GF roll for me and regular bread for my date. Mine was great for gf bread- super soft. I dipped it in their garlic infused oil- YUMMMM. He wasn't in love with his bread- said the consistency was almost like a biscuit. For my main course I ordered the PARMESANA CLASSICO POLLO (chicken). It came with a side of gf pasta in pomodoro sauce. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the breading wasn't falling off, and the pasta was perfectly cooked as well. My only let down was the pomodoro sauce. I felt like it lacked any real flavor. He ordered the LASAGNA QUATTRO FORMAGGI and loved it! We were craving Italian, so we decided to try out a different spot. We were the first of 3 tables to arrive at the 5pm opening for dinner. We were overlooked the entire time we were here- our waitress came by to take our order, and at the end to quickly drop off a check. Food was delivered by others which is fine- but we had no one come back to ever ask us how things were or anything. The girl that dropped the food off was very sweet, offered us cheese - which we said yes to - and she never returned. The sauce in the pasta had a great flavor, but something was really off with the noodles, it was almost as if they were keeping them in the water and taking them out when they had an order- they were extremely hard, not sure if overcooked or undercooked? Couldn't quite put our finger on it. I would have loved to discuss service complaints as well as how the food was, but we weren't asked. I feel that since we were a non alcohol table of two- we were very much pushed to the side. The best part of our meal was 100000% the bread. It was great. read more

If you love good Italian this is the place for you!! My husband and I went and thoroughly enjoyed our food, service, and the atmosphere. We enjoyed the calamari as an appetizer, bread was delicious, our entrees were so tasty, and you must get the chocolate cake for dessert. Out of this world!!! I am gluten free and they made freshly baked gluten free bread for me. There was also a wide variety on the menu that was available gluten free. I typically stay away from Italian places due to being gluten feee but glad we gave this a try. We will definitely be going back. Great place on the square. So glad places like this still exist! I originally deleted this review after speaking with a manager, he was going to redo my order the next day since they messed up and the kitchen was closed. He yelled at me and said the only way I was getting my food is if I took down the review I already took down. He said my pictures were altered but this is really what his food looks like. Disgusting. Johnny's Pizza is better than this. Fake a** Margarita Pizza & supposedly bruschetta. Owner/manager lady didn't even greet upon entering the restaurant to pick up my food. I'll start by saying that I really wanted to love this place. I've had it on my list to try for over a year. We were seated in a window which I liked but it was the window in the bar. It pretty much felt like we were seated in the bar which is not what I expected after making a reservation over 6 weeks in advance. The food was "okay". I had the carbonara which was not my favorite at all- it wasn't traditional and the pancetta was just chunks of fat. My husband had the chicken Parmesan. The chicken was good but the sauce had no taste and there was a lack of Parmesan/cheese. Overall, the restaurant is so cute on the inside but the food wasn't worth it for us. read more

We decided to try this after walking by and noticing the vast amount of gluten free options since 3 out of 4 of us have Celiac. Many things including pizza, pasta, breaded chicken, calamari, and fried cheese can be made gluten free and while some were average, others were quite good! The calamari and fried mozzarella were made with coarse bread crumbs, so while ok, not as good as a rice flour that keeps them lighter. The breading slightly burned while the cheese was still cold and therefore didn't "string or ooze" when cut, but still decent (and a beautiful presentation & decent portion size). We also tried a gluten free pizza that was tasty, a bit more doughy than normal gluten free, however the sausage and cheese on it were so fresh that one can easily overlook the lack of crispiness. Now, for the highlights - the fettuccine carbonara and the rigatoni domenica were phenomenal. Not only was the pasta perfectly cooked (which is overly important for gf pasta to not turn to mush), the flavors were dead on delicious! It takes a little longer for the gluten-free, and there is an additional charge for this, but for these two it was worth it. The wine options were great, a few craft beers on tap, and a full bar. A little pricey, but what they nailed was worth it for a charming experience. read more

Seems like it use to be an old bar that had carpet and was never changed out when it became a restaurant. Between 4 people, we spent roughly $150 and no one enjoyed their meal. Was served raw chicken after waiting for an hour and a half in the rain. They had an umbrella which helped. They offered to remake the meal but we declined. Servers were friendly but we had like 3 and they did not communicate with each other so we didn't get things we asked for like ice. The bread was good. Waited 30 minutes for it. Looks like a beautiful restaurant in the square and it is, but unfortunately you can't read the menu, everything is overpriced and flavor-less, the Alfredo was basically parmesan and salt. To add chicken to the fettuccine was an extra 5$ don't order the meatballs as an entry they only bring you 2 and they taste like dog kibble, I should have listened to the reviews. Piastra is a gem on the Marietta Square that has been around for a long time for good reasons. It's my bff's favorite place, so I have eaten there a number of times. Prices are very fair for the portion sizes and food quality. The service has always been very good. One of the highlights of a visit there was when I had a question about the arrancini and the server brought both the owner and chef to talk to me! They are as accommodating as possible about any food restrictions you may have from allergies to religious dietary concerns. Thank you so much for not making me/us feel bad for asking questions and instead treating it as an opportunity to showcase your versatility. I've always wanted to try this place. Finally got takeout in the age of COVID-19. I got chicken parm (it's always my go-to when trying a new Italian place). Hubs got the pork. He loved his. Mine was very good as well but there's something you need to know if you're going to order this dish here. It has a very grilled taste to it. That's not bad, just be prepared because it took me a bit by surprise and wasn't quite what I was expecting. The bruschetta is very good as well. And let's talk about the chocolate cake for a moment. It's a unique dessert and it's REALLY, REALLY rich. Doesn't take much to get a chocolate overload and that's coming from a serious chocolate addict! Lacked salt, as well as any other type of seasoning. My husband got the arugula salad, which was so incredibly bland. No flavor at all. For my meal, I got carbonara and it did not look or taste like carbonara, and it was cold. My husband got veal piccata. The pasta was good, but the veal looked like boiled chicken and was flavorless. Tucked in the charming downtown Marietta Square, Piastra boasts handmade, in house mozzarella or pasta, fresh baked bread, hand stuffed sausage, and even made-from-scratch desserts like their peach cobbler, it's all so fresh and feels authentic. From the rich meatballs, to the crunchy risotto balls, refreshing peach caprese salad, to the delicate salmon sausage entrée, to the unbelievable pork chop, and finally finishing it off with crumbly peach cobbler. This authentic Italian meal was a walk through Italy, but with a hint of the south sprinkled in to remind us we're not in the Lipman family kitchen in the outskirts of Rome. Bring your elastic pants, you'll need them for this journey. Starting with the meatballs, these three beauties were hand-made with pork, beef, cheese, and perfectly seasoned with garlic and topped with a silky red sauce. They were rich and meaty with great flavor and balance. A good little appetizer to share or on the side. Beyond these, we got two other dishes, the Arrancini (Fried Risotto Balls) and Peach Caprese Salad special. The risotto balls were outwardly crispy and crunchy with creamy risotto and pancetta pieces, then the balsamic drizzle is earthier completed the entire bite. So, a crispy, crunchy, creamy, with hints of meat and earth all in one fun little ball. Enough for sharing or not. We opted for NOT. Opting for something a little lighter after fried and meaty starts, Piastra's seasonal take on a traditional caprese salad was to add peaches and orange tomatoes. The mozzarella is the freshest we've ever had, so light and mild paired well with the earthiness, sweetness, and slight pine of a fresh sliced peach. Take the peach, mozzarella, basil, tomato, all in one bite, you'll get a ton of flavors that's perfect for the patio on a hot summer day. Every Thursday through Saturday, Chef Lipman offers a Chef's Tasting Menu, a 4-course menu with appetizer, pasta, entrée, and dessert. It's only $65 and a steal! Off that menu, we sampled the Salsiccia de Salmone, the salmon sausage. Now this, we've never had anything like it! This isn't your momma's sausage, it's lighter and flakier. Just imagine perfectly ground salmon encased and mixed with spices, herbs, while paired with onions, garlic, and zucchini. It screams summer with the lightness of the fish to the bright and crispness of the zucchini squash, and richness of the onion. The addition of the lemon vinaigrette really brought the whole thing together with a bright, light flavor. We're definitely a fan of this one! If you've been waiting for our favorite dish, it's ready for it's close-up. The Braciola di Maiale, Tomahawk Pork Chop, was a thick cut piece of pork heaven. We only had a pork chop this thick and juicy one other time at a fancy, upscale, Atlanta steakhouse to be unnamed and this one was BETTER! From the absolute divine char on the top, the juicy and thick perfectly cooked cut of pork, to the sweetness of the sauce, this piece of meat is perfection. Then, you pair it with out of this world mashed potatoes boasting of creamy and rosemary(!) goodness. On top of that, the earthiness of the garlic drenched spinach and you've got a melody of flavors that work in perfect harmony to bring to life one amazingly beautiful dish. What more could we say about this dish besides, "GET IT?" One thing we did not anticipate when we stepped into Piastra was the dessert passion that comes with visiting Chef Lipman's kitchen. Made from scratch and one of the freshest peach cobblers, their desserts are all made fresh daily and change seasonally. Peach is perfect for the summer, especially in this dessert because the sweetness and cool of the peach matches the creaminess of the whipped cream and the nutty, buttery, crumbly, graham cracker crust. Overall, the crunchy crust mixed with the peach and the whipped cream is every dessert flavor we can imagine. We need more peach cobbler in our lives. Don't you? We told you that you would need your stretchy pants for this Italian family-style meal. Let's top that off with a glass of Pinot Grigio, which was so affordable, or some fantastic white sangria that paired perfectly with the peach caprese salad and you've got it all.
