5 stars for the light and fluffy crust on their Detroit-style pizza with an LA twist. I had the Lil Red with pepperoni, which was super fresh and crunchy. Amazing and kind staff. No alcohol on the menu but they let you BYOB, and there's a liquor store across the street you can walk to while you wait for your order. The rooftop dining patio has amazing views of the hills. Perfect for large groups. Also, their thought and attention to details, I.e. the design on their pizza boxes ties nicely in with the Shepard Fairey mural on the outside of the building. Worth a try!

PI LA brings a LA take on Detroit style pizza to DTLa where you're find square thick cuts of pizza along with a variety of fun toppings and fixins. Located down an alley off the street (there are a number of signs, look for the neon pizza sign, and a guard out front) which may be a little less inviting at night, but once inside, you'll be welcomed but might bright lights and a very retro vibe. Pizzas here are def creative. I enjoyed the Seoul flavor as the acidity of the pear played well with the meats and dough. The other, while meaty, had me wishing for more cheese to balance the thick chew of the bread. If you're around, worth a bite and service is nice (can be a bit slower at night when it's not busy).

Food was great and you can choose half options. Service was really great and the employees are very nice and check on you regularly. The atmosphere was quite cool. It's in the Allie way and the inside looks kind of future/old dinner style. Super cool spot though

This place has thick square pizzas. I'm still a little unclear on what constitutes a Detroit style pizza, but I feel like an argument could be made that this place serves that style. Even though they label themselves as LA pizza. All I know is that it's really delicious. Really fun creations on the menu, and the place itself feels like an old school diner. it should be noted that it was a little tough to find from the street. You have to walk through kind of an alleyway to get to the restaurant itself. There's a little bit of signage on the street where the address says, but you probably won't be able to see the place itself driving by. When I walked in, I was greeted by a really friendly person behind the counter. When it was my turn to order. the person was super helpful and friendly as well. I also like that you can order half pies. That's helpful cause these are large and dense. I ended up ordering the Seoul Kitchen, which you might expect is influenced by Korean flavors. The pizza had a nice crunch and the flavors were on point. I really love this pizza. I definitely want to come back and try their other flavors/ combinations. Such a cool spot and great food and great people.

I was craving a greasy deep dish pepperoni pizza and found this place on Yelp. A happy find! Ordered online for takeout and the pizzas were ready when I got there. Surprisingly, I ended up liking the vegetarian option more. Although the gtx satisfied my pepperoni craving, it had a much harder crust (the kind that scratches the roof of your mouth), but I'll chalk it up to the drive home and being too hungry to heat it up more. Highly recommend the corvette- so fresh. Pizzas came out to around $20 each. We ate 3 squares per person. It's a little hard to find, especially if you're driving at night. Follow the lit "pizza" sign through gates and walk down the short alley. The restaurant has plenty of booths and bar seating. What sets them apart from other places: -Chili oil! Each box came with a container of this crunchy chili oil. It tasted like a toasted chili oil mixed with Thai peanut satay and cumin, with mild-medium spice level. I've never had anything like it. Very unique and was excellent on the pizzas. -Frozen options. Those of us who hate dealing with LA parking can get some frozen pies for future cravings.

You might miss PI LA since it's in an alley, but it is well worth the visit. The pizzas are delicious, the workers are welcoming, and the inside feels like a retro pizza parlor. Pi LA deserves to be part of anyone's food spot rotation for a night out in LA. Every pizza is made to order and they have classic pizza options such as the margherita (Lil Red Corvette) or the meat lovers (GTX Racer). If you can't decide or want to try more than one, you can do half and half on a full pizza order which are 4 deep dish slices but you'll be satisfied with 2 per person.

Located in dtla, the entrance was a little hard to find since it was in a weird alleyway. The interior was so cute!! Love the aesthetic and plenty of seating. We got 3 half pizzas to try different flavors. We got the jd doge ram, seoul kitchen, and a filipino special they had. Our favorite was the filipino one, it had yam as a topping which was delicious. We ordered them to-go and at them at home. The pizzas were decent but the crust was a bit tough. Would recommend eating it there, maybe it would be better fresh. The crust was also super cheesy which I liked but my boyfriend was not a big fan.

I couldn't stop thinking about Pi La. I kept wondering what the crust would be like if I had it fresh. So I ordered another 7 pies, this time frozen. I packed them away individually, saved the boxes, placed the garnishes in the refrigerator, and put the pies in the freezer. Today, I baked the Love Bug per the directions on the box. It was amazing. The crust was airy, crisp on the bottom, with a great chew--hallmarks of the perfect LA style Detroit Pizza. Please see the crumb shot attached! The frico was also perfectly crisp. Coupled with the creative ingredients that are so cohesive, the pie transcends to greatness. Is it better than Quarter Sheets Pizza (QSP)? Yes, it is better than Quarter Sheets if QSP had an off day. If we are measuring peak to peak, QSP is still better--both crusts are light and airy, but the crust of QSP is more flavorful whereas Pi La's crust is lighter and less greasy. On the other hand, QSP has inconvenient hours for me and does not offer delivery, so Pi La is now my current favorite pizza place. I can bulk order pies to offset the Uber Eats delivery fees. Then bake them at my convenience. Better than Goldbelly! I took pics of the process from frozen to bake to the final product. Will update the review as I bake the other pies. Update: Baked all the other pies. Opal GT highlights the dough prep quite well and places the the crust front and center. They all came out spectacularly. The convenience of baking from the comfort of your own home should not be underestimated! So much mental overhang is avoided: no more friction from worrying about tipping, speaking to people, parking, traffic, etc, etc.

This is a cool place tucked in a small little alleyway on 4th between spring and Main Street. As soon as you walk in you'll smell the amazing aroma of pizza. The ambience of the restaurant is pretty hip and cool. The service was amazing. They were in the middle of fulfilling, a huge catering order, but they still accommodated me in a reasonable time. The pizza was pretty good. I just got half of a pepperoni pie. I really like the pepperonis they have so much flavor and the cheese they use is top quality mozzarella.. I will definitely be back and I would suggest you all give it a try as well.

Hidden in an alley off 4th street, it is probably the best deep dish pizza in LA. They serve them in big square, whole or half square. You can order a la carte or customize your own they made their dough and grated their cheese. Ingredients quality was top. Also the house made chili crunchy is yummy and just mildly hot.

Came here with a friend for dinner. We walked from Ahmanson to grab some dinner here before our show. My friend and I each got two half pizzas to try. I tried the Korean one and the smoked chicken one (I can't remember the names without looking at the menu), and both were very good. The crust is a little greasy but I really enjoyed it overall. The restaurant itself was clean and there was plenty of seating available for us. The bathrooms were clean as well. The gentleman at the front was nice and answered all of our questions, and even came over to refill our water several times.

Ambiance: it's a hidden gem in DTLA, located in an alley, not so easy to navigate from main streets, once going inside the store, it's very spacious with stylish silvery decoration, good for large group hangout Service: very friendly and attentive, patient with questions and provided useful suggestion Food: simple menu for red pizza and white pizza etc. GTX Muscle Car - **** cupped pepperoni, fennel pollen sausage, fresh mozz, roasted red onions, classic option, best seller here, recommend Firebird Seoul Kitchen - **** smoked and roasted k-town spiced pork belly, shiitake mushroom, kimchi-tomato sauce, asian pear, bold in taste and rich in flavors, recommend Price: half size and full size to choose for the pizza, affordable prices, about $25 per order

Found my new go to lunch spot! Tucked in an alleyway off of 4th Street, I was surprised to find a spacious, clean space with cool decor. The employee who helped us made excellent recommendations and we loved the food. While the pizza was being made, the owner (I'm guessing) came by to give us some samples of the dough. Absolutely delicious. I would pay for just a platter of the pizza crust only, haha! It's the perfect combination of crunchy, chewy, and cheesy. The pizza I had (Seoul Kitchen) also had a unique blend of toppings I never thought would belong on a pizza, but it somehow worked to create a delicious dish I can't wait to go back!

The list clearly favors organic and biodynamic producers, which I always appreciate--minimal intervention, letting the terroir and varietal speak without unnecessary manipulation. The flight format was flexible, offering around five selections with the option to choose three pours. I went with a sparkling red, an orange wine, and a white--each bringing its own personality to the table. The sparkling red was lively and slightly unconventional, the orange wine had that textured, skin-contact complexity, and the white rounded things out with a clean, expressive finish. Our server elevated the experience by guiding the tasting order, which made a noticeable difference in how each wine showed. It's always a good sign when the staff understands how to pace a flight rather than just drop it off and walk away. We didn't explore the food menu this time, so I can't speak to the full program, but purely from a wine perspective, it lands at a solid 4 stars for me. The space itself is ideal for a relaxed midday tasting--plenty of seating, with a great outdoor setup.
