The thing I really love about it is the variety in activities and workouts you can do here. I am a former wrestler and football player so, my workouts go from weight room to mats and I can do that all in one building here. There is a rock wall, racquetball court, mat room, dance floor, spin room, basketball court , and all the above! Oh did I forget the pool and sauna? Seriously, they have EVERYTHING. Another thing I truly love about this place is the attentive staff and the ample space. Of course they use student employees, but I have had nothing but positive experiences with with this staff! They are knowledgeable and attentive so you never feel lost in the huge space here. Speaking of space , this place also is a great size. Even at peak times you never feel like your standing over anyone in the weight room or track! There are about 8 courts in the basketball gym so everyone can run games at the same time! I coach parkour and wanted to see how the best of the best do it and was not at all disappointed. The gym isn't large--pretty sure the LA location is quite a bit larger--but they have the core equipment they need including an AirTrak and trampoline. Most importantly, they have excellent coaches--Malik who coached the adult/advanced tumbling class plus the tricking class I took was super-patient plus understood proper spotting techniques and had a great approach to communicating with students. All the students there were great, too, serious adult athletes most with an equally serious set of skills already under their belts. In short, this is exactly what you want a tricking or parkour gym to be: safe, clean, quality equipment, top-notch instruction, and fellow students as serious about their game as you are yourself. I cannot recommend JAM enough--this makes it clear why the very best pro athletes doing what we do, people like Cloud Campos and Aiden Kennedy--train at their Los Angeles location.

When you walk past the front desk you go down a long hallway and it looks like they have several fitness rooms and a gymnasium (there were people playing basketball in there when we walked past). The Zumba class we took was with instructor Tash. She literally screamed at us and all the students / participants throughout the class, and came within 2 feet of me to scream (and I mean triple SCREAM) at me to get my legs up. This was inappropriate and made me extremely uncomfortable. Tash asked when I entered the room if this was my first Zumba class. Despite me telling her yes, there was no instruction nor a speed a first timer could even begin to keep up with. Not sure why the question was asked in the first place. The gym overall looked clean enough, and spacious. There were at least 15 people in this particular class on a Saturday, and there was plenty of room for all of us (if any more had joined, it would have felt crowded).

Motivation was lacking. Parents did not need to be in the class but in order to get the most of it we and other folks joined in as the coaches weren't attentive and appeared uninterested. We noticed some of the other coaches teaching the older kids were also lacking the excitement we feel a gymnastics coach should have (something akin to a cheerleading coach, full of energy and smiles.)

Not to mention it is the top rates premiere gym in the Atlanta area. My first session went great with me learning basic boxing and kicking techniques/ combos. The coach/ owner taught the class personally. While teaching, he made sure to communicate with me personally and train me at a beginner level. I plan to train their 6 days a week, and I am looking forward to the opportunity Bangkok Boxing is giving me to grow. Facilities are state of the art, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. You get plenty value for your dollar with unlimited session Muay Thai, Fitness kickboxing, and boxing. If you do see any lower star reviews they seem to all be personal issues the person had with the gym. Nothing to do with the quality or team working there. Also most lower start reviews are from people not being able to get out of the contract once it is signed. Do net let this deter you from visiting. These are individual financial banking problems that in no way represents Bangkok Boxing and its teaching.

I felt very uncomfortable continuing with a gym membership at either location. Great front desk assistant, terrible owners. The owner needs to comprehend that African-American's are the main ones supporting his gym and I will not take this discrimination lightly, neither should his customers. I have plenty of Asian-American friends, so this is not a bashing moment, this is a festering boil that needs to be popped!

I have learned a lot from him already and know that every Tues and Fri, I am going to have a terrific 45 minute workout (or a little less when I am late!). By terrific, I mean hard as heck - David is very encouraging and also very precise about form and the amount of weight. He pushes when appropriate, which seems like 90% of the time!, and backs off the weight when he sees that I'm not keeping good form. I told David that I wanted to focus on arms, back & shoulders (I had a very good base but had started losing my tone/cut due to partial neglect for a few months). He designs my training session around that - with some core thrown in to make sure I'm maintaining that with my other workouts during the week. Every session has been different and challenging so far. I do get sore after our workouts but not in a painful, can't-raise-my-arms-to-wash-my-hair way. His gym is your basic physical fitness gym with a solid variety of weights and other fitness equipment. He has very very popular bootcamp classes -- once I started working out with him I realized a lot of Avondale Estaters frequent his gym and take great pride in earning their "levels", e.g., Warrior, Elite etc. I earned my warrior, which is level one and actually sort of thrilled me. I want to wear my Tshirt out & about so people know, hey, I made it too. :) David also offers small group training - women sculpting groups and other strength training classes along with bootcamp. I think the best things I can share about David are that he has extensive experience and knowledge of exercise and anatomy, he is encouraging, communicates very clearly and specifically to ensure proper form - and he's just a really good, nice guy.

And before you shout "Skill issue!", let it be known that at Stone Summit I can comfortably climb V0-V3s, but I couldn't scale one of Wall Crawler's V1-V3s. Their bouldering room was wacky in all sorts of other ways too-- half the routes weren't marked with a V-grade at all, and Wall Crawlers chose to adhere to the outdoor bouldering safety method of "Drag the mat under where you're bouldering," which is great if you're an experienced climber/faller, but pretty unnerving to amateurs who don't want to miss the 5x5 ft. mat from 12 feet in the air. Aside from the bouldering section I enjoyed Wall Crawler Rock Club though. The top-rope routes were well set and I enjoyed the ~6 routes I climbed, plus the automatic belay machines were great since I didn't have to spend an hour getting a belay certification. My friends and I also enjoyed goofing off in their in-house "gym," which has a bunch of tools that train climbing muscles like lats and forearms. Overall however, I decided to stick to rating Wall Crawler a 3/5 star because of the cost. Wall Crawler Rock Club is just $2 bucks cheaper than Stone Summit despite the latter being 10x bigger, 10x taller, and having 10x more amenities like a huge weight room, free coaching, 4 locations, a modern website, and nicer shoes. I'm totally cool with a smaller, "local," gym having less perks than the big guys, but not when I have to pay the exact same cost. In that case I'll just drive 5 minutes longer to the bigger gym.
