I've really gotten into film photography over the past year or so. I started with an old Minolta 35mm I found at a yard sale, and I've just recently moved up to a big chonky Mamiya RB67 medium format camera that uses 120 film (featured in my last attached pic). I'm very much a beginner with this stuff, but super excited and enthusiastic to be learning a whole new subset of photographic techniques. With that said, I feel incredibly lucky to have a resource like PhotoLab in the East Bay. The services they offer are great, their prices are competitive, and (most importantly) their team is friendly and helpful and welcoming to a newbie like me. It's also awesome to have a local shop that sells a wide variety of film stocks, and can offer advice on which ones to use to get whatever effect I'm going for. TL;DR: PhotoLab is fantastic!

Over $200 in film developing into negatives

I received helpful, friendly guidance & service when I brought in a large quantity of really old 35 mm film to process into negatives. But when I picked up the negatives and asked for help to view the images so I could decide which ones were worth printing, I was ignored and brushed off for another customer behind me. Then the young lady said VERY rudely: 'I'm helping another customer!' and while that doesn't sound so terrible, it was somehow really upsetting & I got so rattled I had to leave. I did say that I paid them over $200 for the film processing & was hoping to get a little more help. Then I said I was really upset and was going to have to leave without making my order for prints, if they couldn't help me. They offered silence, rather than help, in response. I was frustrated because I couldn't see the images with the light table they offered, so I was just asking if there was a better way to deal with it. Plus, I had this huge role of negatives that kept falling on the floor and I couldn't figure out how to handle them. I paid a little extra to go to this place because it is a small local woman owned business. I'm sure the owner and many of the employees are great, but I just can't go back there because of this one bad encounter.

Best photolab in Berkeley! I love the flexible film drop off process here, fill out the intake form and drop it into the slot in the front entrance. I usually receive my scans in 3days or so. Never had an issue with any wonky development! Prices are pretty standard - $7 for developing color 35mm film and $8 for scans, pro-tip they are running a Yelp check-in promo of $13 for dev+scan, so save yourself a few bucks :)

I was very happy with getting my film developed here. There are a few places around the Oakland Area to get film developed, but I came here because of their $13 check in deal. I filled out an intake form and the worker there took my credit card to put it in their system (they don't do Apple Pay or have a chip reader, you're charged once the film get processed). I got ample help and was very happy with the nice worker. When I was here, I was hoping to get some film as well but they didn't have my favorite 35mm stock due to the film shortage. I got three rolls of film developed here and all the pictures turned out great! The scans were high quality and I love the colors. Turn around time was about 3 days, which was also amazing. I received my photos via a shared drive link, which is great because I was used to bringing a USB whenever I get my film developed... a little inconvenient to have to pick it up again as well. Keep in mind, the link only works once. I tried opening the link on another one of my devices and it didn't work. I did already save the photos to my personal drive, so it was fine. I definitely will be back to develop more photos and hopefully get more film soon.

Had a friend recommend this place after I had a poor experience with a pharmacy development of a disposable camera. Reasonable pricing and great development. Use a proper film lab for development people.

After utilizing the Yelp app to find a framing company close by, we found Artistic Picture Framing. After meeting the crew in-person, we knew we were in the right hands. Since there was a lifetime guarantee posted on the back of the frame, I took it back to same shop, but unfortunately the new owner, Saul, was not able to honor his predecessor's guarantee. I had another item that needed to be framed as well, so I decided to go ahead with working with the new owner, Saul, anyway. He showed me a nice variety of frames and I chose two that complemented each other and worked with other frames already in my space. He recorded my choices in his notes and charged me a high, but reasonable price for quality framing of this type, and I paid half as a deposit. He said it would be three to four weeks. Five weeks later, I called to see about my frames and he said one was delayed another couple of weeks. When they were ready (a month late), I came to pick them up and the documents were well mounted, smooth, and clean... But they were in matching frames. I said that one was wrong, and he said that unfortunately he had misplaced his notes, so he couldn't confirm, but had relied on memory and thought I said identical frames. Though I was dissatisfied, I chose not to have them redone and rather just to take my items with me. Saul told me the remainder of the payment would be $100 higher than he originally quoted. I showed him the receipt for the first half of the payment and his original quote, and then he agreed to that accept the amount he had quoted. I have not been back to Stoll since. I have, however, had very good experiences recently with framing a few items at Storey Framing.
