John is a nice guy & the convenience of a mobile repair is amazing, but alas my experience was not 5 star.... 10min before our appointment I text him directions & he called to tell me he didn't have the screen he needed for my repair. I wasn't in a rush so told him we could reschedule for the next day. Next day: 30 minutes after apt time he text omw & arrived 45 min late. After giving him my phone he asks "what's wrong?" Confused at his question since we'd just spoken the night before to rescheduled- I showed him the cracks & missing glass along the top corner. He offered to install a free screen protector afterwards (which I thought a kind offer) & told me to come back in 15-20 min. He was still working so we chatted about the new releases. I explained I was having mine repaired so I could sell it eventually & joked "its a $79 investment in my future". He replied "Is that what I quoted you? I thought I was giving you a discount?" I told him that information would be on the phone he had in parts at the moment... I went back as he was finishing up (43 min after arrival) & appeared to be testing the camera functions. I thought it odd since it was completely dark outside and there wouldn't be a way to see if they worked... He again asked what he was charging? I said "Well you mentioned a discount, so what do you normally charge?" He repeated the question, so I told him I thought it was $79. He replied that it's normally $99 so that is a discounted rate. I knew that was a lie since I had the inital contact quote in my yelp messages which indicates an inconsistency with pricing, but whatever- handed him my cc. Noticed there wasn't a screen protector on & asked if that could be applied. He asked if I really needed one if I was going to sell it. That made me uncomfortable after the pricing situation, but I just mentioned I'd appreciate it since I would be using the phone for awhile. Once back inside the issues started to arise: 1) In a rush to put the screen protector on it was applied so crooked that half the home button & ear piece were covered making it impossible to use without removing it. 2) Side bezel was scratched & dented where he used a tool to remove the old screen (which can be avoided if care is taken to remove the glass). 3) Overcharged. A notification popped up showing a $ 790.11 charge on my cc. Sent John a text about & felt stupid for not looking when I signed the phone. 4) Broken Camera: The screen had a weird greenish-yellow color so pulled up the camera & noticed odd colors. Tried switching to the Front camera & found a black screen. Performed a hard rest & RAM reset- neither fixed it. Knowing the camera cable is easily torn/damaged during repair if not careful, I sent him another text. 5) Broken Mic: Then, I tried to return a call & the person on the other end couldn't hear me even if I tried to use speaker phone. Sent a 3rd text... 6) Screen Sensitivity. Opened a YouTube video and it was stuck in fast forward. Took the case off & discovered that whenever I touched the top of the screen around the white ear piece area the video either went into fast-forward or the youtube settings menu came up. 7) Screen Ghosting: While downloading financial/storage apps removed for the repair I found that anytime I double-clicked the home button to bring the App Store back up the new app ghosted through. Needles to say I quickly regretted my decision to use Phone Mav & became stressed that external repairs voids apple's willingness to fix issues. THE NEXT DAY: 1) I finally got a reply from John the next morning saying he'd refunded the overcharge although the full amount wasn't ever refunded (brining my final total to 81.11) 2) In regards to the broken camera he said he'd tested it and it was working fine after repair.. but offered to come by that evening. 3) Once he was back, I shown him the sensitivity & ghosting issues as well. He just looked at me weird & asked "Why would you ever touch that part of the screen or do that with the apps?" I was completely shocked! No apology for the fact that I couldn't use my phone to make calls, take photos, or put a case on (not to mention the overcharging, tardiness, and temperamental sensetivity issues). Instead, he questions why anyone would have the issues that have arisen in less than 12 hours after his repair? Questioning how someone might use their phone isn't a professional or helpful response to concerns about your parts or repair & doesn't strike feelings confidence regarding its resale. Unfortunately I regret my decision to use Phone Mav but in the end was just thankful my phone didn't become a door stop. read more
