China House - Beef Ramen

I've been coming to China House since I was a kid, and it still hits exactly the same way every…read moretime. This isn't one of those fancy fusion places trying to reinvent American-Chinese food -- it's pure, classic comfort, done right. Got the orange shrimp (the star of the menu, obviously) and it was perfect: plump, juicy shrimp tossed in that iconic sweet-tangy sauce, with just the right amount of crisp on the outside. The broccoli on the side was fresh and not overcooked, which is a win for any Chinese takeout spot. Service was warm and fast, even on a busy Saturday night. The place has that cozy, no-frills vibe that only comes from being a family-run staple for decades. If you're in Lucerne Valley and craving the kind of Chinese food that tastes like home, skip the new spots and come here. 10/10, will keep coming back for another 43 years

I believe the old owner still may be the chef, but I'm not quite sure. I know this place gets mixed reviews, but we've always liked it as an American takeout Chinese food option. It's just very nostalgic of my husband a nice childhood with the flavors they offer. The war wonton soup was delicious and filled with goodies like meat and shrimp. And I get Moo Shu almost every time because it's just yummy. Honestly, we all finish our plates when we come here. I think the spice is a great meeting place for lunch or dinner when you're in the high desert my whole family will highly recommend this on any given day as a meeting place.

Young Dim Sum - Shanghai Dumplings aka Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao)

Stopped by Young Dim Sum today and this place did not disappoint. Everything we ordered came out…read morefresh, hot, and full of flavor. We got the stir-fried beef noodles, egg rolls, pot stickers, and the fried buns with condensed milk, and every dish was on point. The stir-fried beef noodles were the star -- super tender beef, perfectly cooked noodles, and great wok flavor. The egg rolls were crispy and filled just right, and the pot stickers were juicy with that perfect sear on the bottom. The fried buns were surprisingly good too -- warm, fluffy, and even better dipped in the condensed milk. The restaurant is clean, service was quick, and the food looks as good as it tastes (photo attached!). Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. Highly recommend if you're in the area and craving solid dim sum dishes

Beef potstickers: Appealing looking but awkward to eat and seemed prepared from frozen. The meat was a little roll floating in the middle of the thick wonton wrapper. Pan fried on one side, a bit rubbery. Shredded Cucumber salad with garlic flavor was good with decent fresh cucumber. Scallion pancakes. Greasy. Unable to detect any scallion or onion flavor so I opened it. Tiny specs of what had to be those dried chives or green onion flakes. Scant amount. This is a simple, cheap fix for a usually delightful side order: Just chop up some fresh green onions and throw them in there. Easier on the oil & these would've been pretty good. Wouldn't order this unless they revamp this simple app. Distracting banging around of pots and pants in background. I guess it was pot washing time. Several customers ordered the dim sum and maybe that's the way to go. It's a no go for me.

The weekday lunch specials are a good value here for a tasty meal. I should begin going through…read moretheir entire lunch special menu for fun. Today I ordered the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with tofu lunch special. It came with an egg flower soup, egg roll, crab Rangoon, and choice of steamed or fried rice. The eggplant and tofu were cut in small pieces but the dish tasted good overall. The garlic sauce was savory. I also wanted to order their Shredded Pork with Rice Noodle dish off of their Korean menu. I had it before but, due to a miscommunication with the waitress, I ended up with Japchae instead. The Japchae was actually excellent, well made with a noticeable amount of wok caramelization flavor. The sweet potato glass noodles had a firm, chewy texture and provided a nice contrast with the tender pieces of pork and stir fried vegetables. I will probably order Japchae again even though I don't think this is a regular menu item. It is highly recommended. Service is polite and efficient. The dining room is comfortable for a single diner.

The combination fried rice and garlic eggplant really stood out and were definitely the highlights of the meal. Overall, everything was delicious and satisfying.
