Had a taste for some pho so I had to satisfy that craving! The restaurant itself was nice and clean, had a great ambience for afternoon lunch. I ordered the veggie spring rolls which were so good! It came with a type of sweet and sour sauce. The pho came in three different sizes; app, small and large. After looking at the portion bowls, I opted to go with the app size chicken pho ga because, well, I thought it would be enough. When it arrived, it was not as hot as I hoped. After adding the jalapeños, basil and lime juice( didn't use the bean sprouts) it was already like warm. The chicken was cooked good and the portion was comparable to the size of the bowl. All in all, I enjoyed the pho, broth had decent flavor, the portion was satisfying, juice wish the broth was a bit hotter. Maybe I'll get a small next time! read more

The selection of Vietnamese food in Hampton is very limited but Pho79 has always delivered. I have attended both Hampton and Newport News location (Hampton majority of the time) and the quality of food and service is always satisfactory. The staffing is a little low but the I can certainly say the quality of the service didn't suffer. The portions are pretty generous. The appetizer size pho was just the perfect size . Certain items are very good like the crab rangoon but others are not. I do not like that the sandwich selection has been scaled down to one sandwich and the price was raised but the quality seems to be iffy. The lack of texture and chewiness of the noodles made me think that they were overcooked or a cheap brand of vermicelli noodles were used. This was my only complaint about Pho. I work in Hampton, and I've always thought (Others Too) it was the best. This past Friday, 03/15/24 was the sealer of fate on their "Customer Service". Their customer service has seriously declined recently. There are some employees who are mature and readily available for good customer service, but others in the restaurant are more worried about their "Cell Phones & Social Media" then it's customers! It was Friday, 03/15, "MILITARY PAYDAY", Langley AFB would pack this joint up by 11:30am so I would always be there by 11:00 to get a seat. Very good pho. I've had pho all over the world and this satisfies. I just go for well done brisket pho, nothing too wild. The real distinguishing part of pho is the broth and then the quality of the meat. Broth was great and the meat was good quality. No weird fatty parts. Beyond the food, I appreciated their thoughtful takeout containers. Cup of broth accommodates the noodles and vegetables perfectly. read more

I stood for over 10 minutes by the door and eventually sat myself! I had two more show up with me shortly after, and were being ignored until we called a server over. The place was not busy by any means and I know they saw me. Horrible customer service! It sucks because i actually enjoy their food here. Never coming back unless those female servers get fired. This Vietnamese restaurant checks off every criteria on my list of a legit pho place. Not only do they have delicious pho (in three sizes), but they offer a wide variety in traditional Vietnamese dishes. My fiancé and I have tried the pho, chicken banh mi, the shaking beef, and their spring rolls. I can personally say that I would recommend everything that I've tried. I've also had their Thai iced tea, it was first too milky (too much creamer), but they fixed it when I asked which was really nice. I did give them a four star vs a five star because this place is a little more pricier for a Vietnamese restaurant than I would expect. As someone who has tried 4 of the Pho 79 locations, I have to say that this location is my least favorite. Though the flavor wasn't terrible, the meal as a whole is not worth the price charged. My son had the kids meat and noodles with barely a piece of meat on the plate for $5.00, I had the C.4 which is pork and rice (my usual) at $12.95 which was disappointing due to the fact that the small piece of meat was extremely thin and there is nothing else of value on the plate with the sides being white rice, lettuce, a slice of tomato, and 2 slices of cucumber. Come on... at $12.95, there should be some more meat on the plate. I feel ripped off. The Norfolk location is my favorite and at the same menu price, you get skewers of meat that is cooked to perfection! read more

I've only lived in Norfolk for a month and I've already stopped by this place several times. Their pho is awesome! The broth is rich but not oily or greasy. The portions are decent and the price is A-OK. Their rice with meat dishes come in HUGE portions are are super tasty. The waitstaff is super friendly! It can be a little slow to get food but well worth it. The one thing I don't really like is their bubble tea - it's a yogurty/milky mix that I think clashes with the bubbles (way too sweet)! I am quite frankly disappointed by the fact that I am just now trying this place. It is a great place to take the family! I have tried almost all the Pho places in the area. I was being stubborn and never quite made it in. I am so happy I did. The place is modern and clean and not at all what I expected a Vietnamese restaurant would look like. The hospitality there was amazing. I think every employee in there checked up on us and made sure our family was taken care of at all times. The food came out in a jiffy, almost in a blink of an eye. I love pho. This was an excellent outing. Pho was tasty but it could've had a bit more meat (beef). I think there were only four maybe five pieces. Eggrolls were very tasty. If you like strong coffee definitely order the Vietnamese cold coffee. It is super strong!! Kids meals were generous portions of rice/noodles that came with the ckn skewer. I think that this location is my second favorite pho 79 the other is in Virginia Beach in Virginia Beach blvd. If we are back on this side of the water we will surely be back. I was not impressed with this last visit. I was giving them another chance since my last visit was just "OK". My daughter had the Pho Ga (Chicken Pho) and had a good chicken broth, but the shredded chicken was dry and over cooked. You would think that in a broth that this wouldn't be the case? She didn't even finish her bowl and wasn't too crazy about it and she isn't crazy about returning to this location. I had the (H1) Hu Tieu (egg noodle soup with shrimp and sliced pork) which had no real taste. Something was missing and I can not put my thumb on what is was, but the broth was good. We also had ordered 2 Boba Tea's which our server didn't even bring to us until after I asked for the check??? She apologized saying that she was really busy and it was on the house. That was a nice thing to do, but I felt that they were not that busy, but things happen so no big thing. I would also like to add that our table was dirty and I had to ask someone to clean it. Sticky to touch. I don't find myself coming back to this location anytime soon even though it is very close to me. I had a better experience at the other location in Newport News. Well, I have been a fan of Pho ever since I discovered its existence about 4 years ago. Pho79 showed up here on the Peninsula in Newport News last year now this NEW store only a couple of miles from me in Hampton. Very nice restaurant and atmosphere, so clean, very nice staff and an AWESOME BAR! I was her with my daughter for her birthday lunch, she had beef and shrimp kabobs, with rice, salad and some sort of dipping sauce. It was very good except for the dipping sauce, it was over powering with fish sauce. I had to rinse my mouth with water after tasting it. I had the beef and tenderloin Pho. It was nice and hot! The broth was AWESOME and the meat was tender. It needed more vermicelli for my taste but it got the job done. Really good food and the price was right. We were told to sit wherever which was fine but we didn't have a server come up to us for well over ten minutes after sitting. We had to ask to order our food, they never took our drink order, we had to ask twice if we could get our drinks, had to ask where our food was. Other customers had sat down and ordered pho and received it welllll before we received ours. They didn't bring out the lime, mint and sprouts and we had to ask for that too. The food - bun bo hue and fried chicken. The bun ho hue lack the taste of how the soup supposed to taste like. It's one of those type of meal that you can eat but won't bother to order again. Nice char grilled flavor on the chicken without overbearing spices etc. The vegetarian egg rolls were really good. Everything nice and fresh. Service was fast and friendly! Lunch price was great...only $31. As soon as you walk in, the AC hits you real good unlike most Pho restaurants where they try to make you feel like you're really in Vietnam...all hot and what not. But this spot was nice and cold in here! Vietnam food is better in Vietnam (Nha Trang) plus its dirt cheap, but hotter than hellfire. I'm giving this five stars because I didn't have to sweat in the humid air like in Vietnam or other Vietnamese restaurants in the US. -15 minutes later... had to go across the street to the Barnes & Nobles, cuz that Pho79 started kicking in quick. We checked out a new Vietnamese restaurant that opened near us a few months ago, Pho 79 Bar and Grill. I was told that these numbers following these Pho restaurants are all about "lucky numbers and good fortune." A new one opened earlier last year in Newport News called Pho 83. Although the menus of all these Pho restaurants look pretty much the same, the decor of the three Pho restaurants I visited are completely different. The new one looks the fanciest of all three restaurants in the vicinity. Perhaps it is because they are so new and just opened, but they seem to present themselves as welcoming and inviting. The interior decoration was appealing, and the staff were diverse and pleasant. On this occasion, my sometimes grubbing partner and I had take-out. My meal, shown below, was a larger-than-normal soup called Hu Tieu, a pork broth soup with egg noodles and a meat of my choice. My grubbing partner got the noodles with beef--that wasn't a soup. There was plenty to go around. I look forward to returning to take in the interior surroundings and the super large TV over the bar. read more
