Was exactly what we needed on a cold winter day. The chrysanthemum tea was so delicious not too sweet and super cozy. My niece got the Bún Heo Hoặc Gà Nướng with grilled chicken, cabbage and peanuts. She thought it was pretty tasty. I got the Phở Nam regular size and it was a pretty hefty portion. I probably could have gotten the small and been very satisfied. Overall the service was quick to get the food. Wasn't as quick to wrap up which was nice, we didn't feel rushed out. Will definitely be back soon

Smallish Vietnamese restaurant that legit had some of the best Phở Gà I've ever tasted. Saw some reviews of this place on Yelp and put it on the list of spots we needed to eat at during our trip to Charlotte. Generally speaking, when you pop into a Vietnamese joint and all the customers are Vietnamese, the food should be pretty damn good. That was definitely the case here. And for the record, I'm Vietnamese. Service was fast and friendly (conversely, up in northeast USA, the more terse the service, the better the food, and the friendlier the service, the less better the food). The Cà Phê Sữa Ðá was standard fare, as were the Gỏi Cuốn and Chả Giò The standouts were the Phở Gà (what I ordered) and Phở Tái (what my GF ordered). The broth was deep and flavorful and you could tell it was made with love...everything phở broth should be. If you love Vietnamese cuisine and are in Charlotte, Pho Van should be on your list of places to go. Will definitely be back the next time we are in Charlotte.

#55 Shrimp Fried Rice (3/5): Very mediocre fried rice. It didn't have enough flavor or oiliness. #24 Pho (3/5): All pho basically tastes the same to me, but I didn't like how much cilantro was in this. Crab Rangoon (3/5): Almost no cream cheese. Basically a fried wonton filled with shredded imitation crab. Very strange. #2 Summer Rolls (2/5): WAY too much mint. It completely overpowered everything. The peanut sauce was pretty good though. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

Service is excellent, the employees were all super nice. Pretty solid pork banh mi, Kallie enjoyed her pho. About average price. Would come back.

Pho for me is a great comfort food especially on a cold or rainy day. Recently on a bleak rainy evening I found myself craving it, and after doing online research I found myself at Pho Van. Many people regarded this as the best place to get pho and I can see where they are coming from, it is delicious! The restaurant is small and cozy, when you walk in you are welcome to take a seat wherever you like and they will bring you water and a menu. I decided on their combo pho because I can never decide between the meatballs or brisket so why not both. The bowl had generous portions of noodles and meat and the broth was delectable. It's hard for me to say if it is the best pho in charlotte, as there are a lot of places I haven't tried, and some that I tried many years ago, but I can say that it is the best I've had in recent memory!

Aesthetic: Authentic, Mom and Pop Vietnamese restaurant with a variety of pho and yummy dishes. My Favorites: The Pho Ga and Pho Dac Biet are outstanding, I can't wait to try more! Experience: I knew this place was legit when we walked in and a lady was hand stuffing crab rangoons at one of the booths. Both orders of pho we had were fantastic, I highly recommend getting the large so you can have two servings. It's a lot of food! We were feeling under the weather, and this was the perfect healing meal. We also tried the coconut juice and chrysanthemum tea, and they were both delicious. This is going to be our go to spot for pho in Charlotte, we seriously can't wait to come back.

Great new Vietnamese place on South Blvd. It actually took the place of Vietnam Grille which had good food but very inconsistent service. I have been to Pho Van several times and received great food and service every time! Some of the servers are not completely fluent in English but the owner is and she can answer any questions or make recommendations if you're unfamiliar with Vietnamese cuisine. All of the food that I have had has been really good. I am particularly fond of their Phos (steaming hot broth based soups) where the meat and herbs are added at the table. They simmer their base broth for at least 12 hours which gives it a deep, complex flavors that you won't always find at other places! Beautiful! Cheers!

Very nice family that gives good service and the food is always hot and fast. Broth is good!

My lunch today included some of the best pho ga I've had in a very long time. It was obviously made fresh, full of chicken and greens, and it was not heavy in salt as I've had it many times in the Northeast. The atmosphere, the decor, and most importantly the staff are very welcoming here. I don't know if it was intentional, but our tea was brought to us a few minutes before the cups were, which essentially forced us to let it steep an appropriate amount of time. Each of us received our own bowl of dipping sauce for the summer rolls, which meant we could each double-dip into our own sauce as much as we wanted. It's amazing that something as simple as that has not been a common thing at other Vietnamese restaurants. My pho ga also came with additions I've not had elsewhere, most notably chili oil. Our other entree was a chicken and pineapple rice dish, nicely seasoned and with just the right amount of sweetness. This was a great find and a pleasure at which to dine.

Cuisine: 7 Service: 9 Decor: 7 Value: 8 Overall: 8 Super friendly and attentive service. I got a classic banh mi with extra pâté, which you can see clearly see from the picture. As for the taste of the pâté, it was not as intense as I would like, but not bad at all. The all important bread was good fresh, but did get slightly chewy when I ate the second half on the plane ride home two hours later. Honestly, not a big deal because it should be eaten fresh anyway. Cold cuts were fine, but I would have preferred a bit more punch with the veggies. Regardless, a satisfying banh mi overall, served by a wonderful mother daughter team. Btw, Vietnamese coffee was good. I'll be back to try some other dishes next time.

Ask the Community - Pho Van

Do they any pho or soups that are not beef or pork, like any veggie or chicken based soups?

Yes. They have vegetarian and chicken dishes. For instance, on the menu if it says Pho Ga, it's chicken Pho.

The restaurant has an eclectic, mismatched décor that felt more cluttered than charming. Combined with the sticky menus and food scattered across the floor, the space had an overall dirty feel. The pho was served with lemon wedges instead of lime. When I asked for lime, the server looked at me without saying anything and walked away. She eventually returned with lime wedges, so I assume she heard my request. The pho itself was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Service felt rushed, and the staff seemed too busy to be attentive. It gave the impression that stopping by our table was an inconvenience rather than part of the dining experience. Given the restaurant's strong reputation and glowing reviews, I expected a much better overall experience.

The inside was larger than I thought as there is also seating in this kind of hidden back room. The lighting, for dinner time at least, was really moody and warm which offered an intimate but modern atmosphere. The service was friendly and quick! Our water was constantly refilled. My friends and I did family style and got the Dry-Fried String Beans, Coconut Shrimp, Ube Cheesecake, Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Chicken Wings, Takoyaki, Crab Rangoon Roll, Szechuan Spicy Wontons, and Basil Popcorn Chicken. I heard that the appetizers are better than the entrees here and that was so true. All of the appetizers were delicious! The Thai Chicken Wings were had this nice crunch despite being coated in this Thai sweet chili sauce. The Crab Rangoon Rolls tasted different than usual crab rangoons, possibly because the filling tasted more like stringy crab meat rather than chunks? Still really tasty especially when paired with the yum yum sauce. I loved the Basil Popcorn Chicken, especially when dipped in the yum yum sauce. You can really taste the five-spice powder. The pieces were a bit large for popcorn chicken, but I did not mind. I was shocked (in a good way) by the Szechuan Spicy Wontons. Extremely flavorful, especially when dipped in the sauce. As for the entrees (which all came with a bowl of rice), the Coconut Shrimp was weird. The batter was extremely thick and hard to bite into, which was unfortunate as the shrimp and coconut sauce itself were delicious. I did enjoy the Dry-Fried String Beans, though. It was in this nice garlicky sauce, plus the beans were sautéed very nicely. I thought that the deserts were okay. The Ube Cheesecake needed more cheesecake and the Mango Sticky Rice needed to be a bit sweeter for my preference. All in all, this is a solid restaurant! I was skeptical because of the terms "Asian fusion" but my worries washed away with the food. The appetizers are a must have here! I would rate this spot a 4.5/5 stars if I could.
