Pho Van has a tasty selection of noodle soups. I came for lunch on a Sunday and found the restaurant to be consistently busy the entire time. However, I had no problem getting a table! You can tell this place is frequented by regulars, which is always a good sign. It's located in a small unassuming strip mall, but there is plenty of easy parking all around. The restaurant is cozy and unpretentious with options for booths or tables. I ordered a chicken pho, and I found the broth to be very rich. Even for a smaller sized bowl, the portions were decent. There were a good amount of noodles and a respectable amount of chicken in the bowl. Overall, this place is solid. Was exactly what we needed on a cold winter day. The chrysanthemum tea was so delicious not too sweet and super cozy. My niece got the Bún Heo Hoặc Gà Nướng with grilled chicken, cabbage and peanuts. She thought it was pretty tasty. I got the Phở Nam regular size and it was a pretty hefty portion. I probably could have gotten the small and been very satisfied. Smallish Vietnamese restaurant that legit had some of the best Phở Gà I've ever tasted. Saw some reviews of this place on Yelp and put it on the list of spots we needed to eat at during our trip to Charlotte. Generally speaking, when you pop into a Vietnamese joint and all the customers are Vietnamese, the food should be pretty damn good. That was definitely the case here. And for the record, I'm Vietnamese. Service was fast and friendly (conversely, up in northeast USA, the more terse the service, the better the food, and the friendlier the service, the less better the food). The Cà Phê Sữa Ðá was standard fare, as were the Gỏi Cuốn and Chả Giò The standouts were the Phở Gà (what I ordered) and Phở Tái (what my GF ordered). The broth was deep and flavorful and you could tell it was made with love...everything phở broth should be. I have been to Pho Van several times and received great food and service every time! Some of the servers are not completely fluent in English but the owner is and she can answer any questions or make recommendations if you're unfamiliar with Vietnamese cuisine. All of the food that I have had has been really good. I am particularly fond of their Phos (steaming hot broth based soups) where the meat and herbs are added at the table. My lunch today included some of the best pho ga I've had in a very long time. It was obviously made fresh, full of chicken and greens, and it was not heavy in salt as I've had it many times in the Northeast. The atmosphere, the decor, and most importantly the staff are very welcoming here. I don't know if it was intentional, but our tea was brought to us a few minutes before the cups were, which essentially forced us to let it steep an appropriate amount of time. Each of us received our own bowl of dipping sauce for the summer rolls, which meant we could each double-dip into our own sauce as much as we wanted. It's amazing that something as simple as that has not been a common thing at other Vietnamese restaurants. My pho ga also came with additions I've not had elsewhere, most notably chili oil. South Boulevard continues to produce some of the most diverse restaurants in the city, and this one is no exception! First, to be clear, if you are not paying attention, you will miss this location. It is tucked into a very nondescript section of South Boulevard, and shares a parking lot with a laundromat and a grocery store called compare market. So you may want to slow down as you get closer to the location so you don't miss the turn off. At 7 PM, the restaurant was mostly empty with two other tables occupied, but by the time we left, every table was full with another party walking in. Even given the traffic, the restaurant is very quiet, clean, and well lit. This is a very extensive menu with quite a few dishes that I was not familiar with. So we relied on previous Yelp, reviewers for help, and they did not disappoint! For starters, we tried the Mongolian fries, which I may not be correctly naming. Matter of fact, I don't remember all of the specific names of each dish, so I will just describe them in the best way that I can. For entrées, we had the brisket and short rib pho as well as the broken rice and pork chop house special. I was not familiar with broken rice, so after asking the waiter about the dish, I decided to try it. It was a really generous portion of meat and rice, with an over easy egg on top, accompanied by another egg soufflé, type side, some greens and veggies. Everything was really good, well seasoned and especially fragrant with Thai spices. The pork chop was moist and perfectly cooked, and the flavor was outstanding. And for my first time tasting broken rice, I really enjoyed it. The texture wasn't too different from regular short grain or long grain rice but again the flavor is what made the difference here. The highlight of the meal was definitely the pho. Probably one of the best bowls I've had in a while. Extremely flavorful broth, and the short rib was tender enough to pull the meat off with a fork. And unlike other Thai restaurants, they didn't overload us with add-on ingredients. Just enough, basil, bean sprouts and jalapeño slices to enhance the bowl's already flavorful ingredients. One additional highlight I need to mention is the outstanding service. We were waited on by both owners, and every time they approached the table, they asked how we were enjoying things and offered suggestions when asked. My lady had the Thai coffee, and was so in love with it, she saved half of it to take home for breakfast the next morning! And to top everything off, the restaurant is a real value. We paid a total of approximately $60 including the tip. We will definitely be back again soon! read more

Best pho in Charlotte. There aren't many to choose from but I can admit with confidence that they're the top choice. It's all about the broth. I prefer a clear and aromatic broth and they nailed it. The noodles weren't clumped together either and were easy to pull apart. The bean sprouts and basil were fresh. The sliced pepper was crisp and had a good kick. We picked it up for take out so I can't comment on overall service but the lady who greeted me on the phone to take my order and in help me in person upon pickup was very friendly. The broth was flavorful without being too salty, the chicken was tender and moist and the overall textures and flavors of this Pho was excellent. My daughter is vegetarian and she tried a vegetarian version and enjoyed it quite a bit. I look forward to going back and trying more dishes. The menu was extensive. They've added booths, and a sound system with music for an upgraded atmosphere over the prior restaurant that used the space.
