Update: since opening this establishment has gotten so much better. For decent pho, I recommend giving Pho Town a try.

It was a cold, dreary Monday. I wanted soup, specifically Chinese. Only the Chinese places we like are closed on Monday. Then I remembered Pho Town, a Vietnamese place. It was open. Only I've never eaten Vietnamese food. I dialed our cosmopolitan daughter who lives in Raleigh and has spots she likes. I was seeking advice, but she didn't answer. I ventured in, casting my fate to the wind. I asked an employee to talk me through the menu. She was very gracious and patient, but we did have a little bit of a communication gap; however, she repeated things for me. I went for the signature pho (pronounced "fu" and not the expected "fo") with chicken, cooked beef eye round, and marbled brisket. WARNING: The brisket is raw, but it comes in a separate plastic bag. When the kitchen door swung open once, I could see a rotisserie chicken in a plastic container on the prep table. I also ordered the steamed rice with grilled baby back ribs, and fried eggs. Also, the fish cakes appetizer. And finally, the Bahn Mi French sandwich special combo. It was a lot of food, but I wanted to make sure I had enough in case there was something we couldn't handle. While I was waiting, two regulars came in. They said they eat there often and everything is good. I felt more confident and assured. The sandwich was self-explanatory: two crusty pieces of bread with a flavorful filling. My husband ate most of it, leaving me a healthy bite. The bread was firm and crusty, and the filling had a kinda teriyaki taste, a little sweet and a little savory. I'd definite order it again. It requires no prep on my part. The employee had patiently explained what I'd get with the pho and the steamed rice, but she didn't really explain the assembly. So, I had to wing it. With the pho, I put the raw brisket in a bowl, topped with the cooked proteins, added the sticky noodles and poured the reheated broth over that. It seemed to poach the brisket nicely. Then i added the garnishes and a swirl of hoisin sauce. I don't know if this is the right way, but it was pretty tasty and a change of pace from our usual wonton. With the rice, which comes in a nice mound, I cut it in half (for us to share) and topped it with the baby back ribs (which were more like short ribs). I put half of the egg on top (not a good move, since it overcooked in the microwave and had to be cut with a knife). After I reheated, I swirled some of the slightly sweet sauce on it and garnished. Except for the egg, this, too, was good. My big epic fail was the fish cakes. They had cooled by the time we were ready to eat them. I nuked them. REALLY BAD MOVE. I had to stab mine with a fork and attempt to yank a piece off with great effort. Dried beef jerky is more tender. I take the blame on this. The speed with which I got my order was great--just a few minutes. (But my tutor did notice an item was missing, so she ensured it was included before I left.) I am grateful for her taking the time to explain things to me, but I wish she had given me a better explanation about the serving assembly. And don't think I'll order anything with chicken, since it seems to be rotisserie from Sam's Club. I've heard that pho is great for breaking up congestion. I had the sniffles and they did seem to lessen after a bowl of pho. I'll go back to Pho Town again with a better idea of what I'm getting and a clearer idea of questions I can ask. As for the pho loosening congestion, if we could only pour some over I-75 during jams and fix that, it'd be great. read more

This place is awesome! The food was great! I love the fact that they have the spicy condiments on the table so you can adjust your level of heat. My only gripe was that they didn't have a separate area for their take-out customers. Some lingered around us as we ate. Mehhhh. I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. To me, the food was subpar. Additionally, they kind of messed up my order a few times although they did correct it relatively quickly. The venue is nice, cute, and quaint, the staff is very friendly, I just was not impressed by the food. I've had Pho numerous times, so maybe I was holding this place to the standard of a lot of restaurants I go to in Atlanta. But yea I probably won't be back. This was the first time I ordered from this restaurant and I had the shrimp pho with beef broth and the fresh spring rolls. The spring rolls were kind of bland. I tried dipping it in the peanut sauce, but I still was not fond of it. The shrimp pho was very bland as well and the smell from the broth made my stomach turn. I tried adding more seasonings and some sriracha, but that did not help much especially since I could not get over the smell of the broth. Also, they only gave a little bit of shrimp. Best pho in this area, worth price because it's authentic with a good selection of options. For Vietnamese food the only thing disappointing is that the side salad is butter lettuce without sauce but really everything else is so good. This place has horrible customer service and average pho. We placed an order for The Vermicelli with Grilled Cured Ground Pork. We didn't receive the egg roll or the shrimp it was supposed to come with. We called and was told that they would just remake a bowl if we didn't mind coming back. We said sure and was going to go back and pick up the bowl and leave a positive review as it relates to their customer service. 30 seconds later we get a call saying they were sure they made the order correctly. We explained that they did not and gave them our order to review. Then they said we ordered the wrong thing and it was our fault. We checked our order and receipt and we order exactly what we wanted off of yelp. It came with a picture a description and the price. We called back and informed them that we ordered correctly to see if they would amend the issue. He was insistent that my husband ordered incorrectly. I told him we had pictures from yelp, an order receipt, order number and I read the description of the item. I was then told that sometimes when you order off line the menu is different then whats in the store. I then asked how can you ever know if you are ordering what you want and he laughed as opposed to taking ownership. I was dumbfounded at the blatant lack of concern and care. I cant understand how we went from we will make you all another bowl free of charge to we don't care in 30 seconds flat. I told him to go check the menu on yelp and our order number and he did not care. I asked if he was willing to offer a partial refund considering we didn't get half our meat or the egg roll. He said he cant do that. I then said if this doesn't matter to you then fine. His response was "yeah, uh huh, I'm busy. Have a good day" We will never go back here. Whats wrong with people that they feel its okay to treat people any kind of way after they've taken your money. I hope others decide not to eat here at all. This was just blatant disrespect. We have to start hold businesses accountable for their lack of customer service. We will never go back. There should be a higher standard of customer service here in McDonough. read more

I work in Decatur so I am surrounded by really good restaurants so believe me when I say Photown is great!! My son and I go there at least once a month. I even got my picky husband to try it. The people that work there are so nice and helpful. If you have never had Pho they will help you select a bowl and ingredients to put it in it. The food is incredibly fresh and the flavors are perfect. The reataurant is new and clean and decorared nicely. We love it and I thiink you will too. Oh, and have Thai tea when you go. Tried this place for lunch today and I had the special combo pho. Not everything was available from the menu. It was tasty, but I thought they skim on the meat in the pho. Other restaurants have more ingredients(meat) in their special combo pho. If they want to stay in business they need to go to Pho Dai Loi restaurant and compare the ingredients in the pho. I will give it a few weeks and return and see if they have improved on their pho. read more

Oh no, they certainly overprice their prices for the portions of their food. First off I seen they now have a BAKERY? They buy from another shop and sell for more money, like seriously you can see it on the package. Sweet tea poured from a gallon from walmart charged $2 a cup and their boba are just iced filled with a price tags of $5. My cup of "Vietnamese Coffee" had literally an inch filled of coffee and the rest filled with ice and was seen shaken up just to make the cup look full for nearly $5, don't be fooled. First we tried ti call our order in on both their numbers listed. Either it was turned off or they kept sending it to voicemail, so that already was a sign. Secondly, I had put in my order for the three meats and spring rolls. Well got my order looked at the first to go box and saw it was the fresh spring rolls instead of the fried egg rolls, went back and asked to change it. Of course they kept telling me "you ordered it"! Ok.... It was a mistake I want the fried ones but I didn't feel like arguing so I took it. Got home saw my meats and it was sad. They cut the meatballs in half so it looked like a double order then they forgot my second meat on my other order. So to say it will be a minute before I come back here. read more
