The hostess behind the desk clearly did not want us there this close to closing. who else is that rude? is your business so good that you can afford to turn customers away??? I would've loved to come back to handle this with the lady at the front desk but I was one of the last customers to order take out tonight. Really enjoyed my Chinese food from here! I ordered the Sesame Chicken with fried rice and wonton soup. The chicken was great and the sesame sauce was good too. Huge portion sizes! You are guaranteed to have leftovers. I also tried the crab ragoon appetizer for the first time and it was so yummy. If you are a cream cheese fan, I highly recommend it. The restaurant is small in size and offers both tables and booths for seating. I dined in the restaurant and had great service from our server. She was very accommodating and made sure my cup was always refilled. She gladly provided me with a to go cup and to go boxes. I came here right at dinner time around 6 PM for take out. The ambience of this place shows some attention to detail. They have a slightly oriental latticework around the waitress refill station. A lot of the hole in wall Chinese restaurants look more like a small cut out of a elementary school cafeteria. This one well not extravagant I was tastefully done bamboo and rope decor with decent looking prints and art on the wall. It was not packed but there were plenty of people here. I'm going to take the food home and further rate the store. A day later after some sleep and some work, I have come to some conclusions regarding this restaurant. I had just enough leftovers to to take them to work with me. It was nice to have a lunch ready made. I would say the food had a pleasant flavor but the sauce was on the thick side; the chicken and beef was tender but it leaned to being a bit over done. A this strip of beef or chicken is best when it is cooked only as much as needed. Even though the classic Sunday pot roast that cooks all morning and falls apart when you try to move it with a fork is good, the best roast, steak, or piece of meat leans to the medium with a slide sear on the out side. In making a good Chinese dish the meat should be this way. I admit that it usually makes the meal more expensive, but worth it. In summary, the food was savory; my children ate it (so very important when you have a 7, 9, 12, and 13 year old); the misses liked it. read more

China star is normally really good. When I first moved her I ordered a spread of food to feed a family. It was not great at all. After almost a year my spouse ordered the shrimp fried rice and lemon pepper wing combo which I must say it is delicious, reasonably priced, and a generous portion. The chicken is nice and crunchy + lemony. The shrimp fried rice is usually full of shrimp and nicely cooked! So this is what we stick to. I haven't been brave enough to venture outside of that! The owner left, it went down hill, they closed and suddenly opened under a different name. It will suffice to say that it isn't the same anymore. I had yet to try this place in my quest for great Chinese food, until today. The food is good. It isn't stand out Chinese though. You know that average Chinese food you get at almost every restaurant around town. This is on the high end of that. It is good but it isn't original or special. The hot and sour soup is missing a certain depth of flavor. The braised wings were amazing but the fried rice seemed a bit bland. The crab rangoon was hot, had plenty of crab flavor and probably was my favorite part of the meal. The prices are spot on. The service is impeccable. Friendly and near perfect. Glasses were never empty, food came out quickly, and every custom order came out just right. The dining room was clean. This is the top echelon of Chinese food in the area. It won't compare to some food outside of the area. Especially North of here. If you want Chinese food in the McDonough area I would go here without a second thought. I've been coming here since I moved to the area. This place is close to me and pretty much the only Chinese restaurant I've been happy with. You get good food at a decent price. I will say that I always always get a dish here called...Yang Chow. I've never had it anywhere and I consider it to be my all time favorite Chinese dish. It's basically just white fried rice with some veggies, pork, chicken, and shrimp. The white rice is so good, it's got a little black pepper on it and it's delectable. This entree, with a bunch of hot mustard on the side for dipping and you're good to go! When I order this for take out, I get 2 meals out of a box of this fried rice dish. Talking to the lady inside, she told me that's one of the few dishes that is traditional Chinese fare. Meaning I guess it hasn't been Americanized. (Let's hope they never do) Some other great things to get here are the egg foo young, they're huge and taste great. The General Tso's is good and spicy. Moo Goo Gai Pan is also good. This places is usually on point but the breading in the shrimp was soggy, the broccoli was over cooked and tasted funny...like watery. We used to come here a lot and really liked it. Unfortunately once Josephine stopped being a regular server the service went downhill. The last straw was when we waited a long time dor a meal and my wife's meal came and mine never did though I was assured it was on the way. Eventually the server came back with the check and asked me how was everything. I told her I wasnt accustomed to paying for a meal that I did not receive. I was not happy and haven't been back since. A big issue to me is that on Sundays when people would get out of church the server would kiss ass of the big tables trying to shmooze for a big tip and completely ignore us.
