I wanted to try this place, as I've been exclusively eating pho at Than Brothers for seriously, like 25 years?. I thought I'd give Pho Tic Tac a try. Recently an ugly thread cropped up on Yelp Talk, believe it or not, it was about Pho! I think the crankiness stemmed from some misunderstandings, but it was really odd and amazingly hostile. I felt a little shocked at how cranky people could be with complete strangers! I decided to soothe my sadness at the state of the world with some delicious Vietnamese food. I'd only had Pho once or twice before, but I thought that I might as well try again. We'd driven by Pho Tic Tac many a time on our way to Central Market. I decided that tonight was the night! As we walked in the door the waitress saw us, and moved a chair away from a table to make space for me and my chair. No nervousness or weirdness there, which was great (sometimes service people act like they've never seen a wheelchair user before - I swear I'm not contagious!). After scanning the menu, I...well, I didn't get pho. It sounded good, but I am such a sucker for a bun noodle bowl, especially the kind with eggrolls. So I ordered that, and it was delicious! The eggroll was crispy, and very dry, not oily at all. It soaked up the sweetened fish sauce that is served with the dish, and had a quite pleasant texture (sometimes when eggrolls are quite oily and soft to begin with, they completely loose their crunch when the sauce is added). The lettuce, cucumber, and carrots were all quite fresh, and the addition of green onion added a lot of brightness. I gobbled up every bit. We ordered the two-in-one rolls to start the meal off, I definitely recommend them. For those not in the know, these are an eggroll in side a salad roll. DELICIOUS! I thought that I'd be able to see through time or something, but instead I just tried to control myself from moaning out loud about how good they were. If my dining companion hadn't been snarfing his down as fast as I was mine, I'd have stolen it! At this point I was quite full, but I decided to drink up some of the extra pho broth my companion had leftover. He had added all of the accompaniments (basil, lime, bean sprouts - plus hoisin sauce and chili sauce). YUM! This is a very solid little pho place that's a pleasure to see still in operation. Their block in Greenwood burned down a few years ago, thanks to some arsonist, and now they're doing just fine on a busy intersection along Aurora in Shoreline. It's great to know they kept the beat going. It's a pretty ordinary little building, but it's a stand-alone, and there's a bit of parking on both the north and south sides. The inside is pretty nice--some tired old linoleum on the floor, but the tables and chairs are nice, the staff is friendly and bustling, and the tables are mostly full. The net effect is a neighborhood gathering spot for families and neighbors, but at reasonable prices. The menu is extensive, moreso now, I think, than in the old Greenwood location. About six pages. Maybe 20 different phos, including a kids' model. The service is brisk. The condiments are fresh. The chopsticks are plastic, the spoons are notched in an interesting way, the servings are generous. But there are some drawbacks. The broth is a little cloudy and musty. The noodles are a little dry and clumpy. The tea is in a bag. Nothing that would stop me from coming back--for sure I'd happily come back if I was in the area. But those are the kinds of details that will keep them from hitting the top spot on the list of pho places, that's for sure. read more

Never in my life had I waited 30 minutes to get spring rolls, and 45 minutes to get a small bowl of pho, until I went to Pho Tic Tac. I don't expect the nicest environments when I eat at pho restaurants, but this one feels unclean and has ripped seats. So when I finally got my pho, my broth wasn't even hot. In fact, the server saw that my raw beef was not cooking at all and brought me a separate bowl with hot broth to dip it in. The bowls are also so small that the broth was spilling out as I was trying to eat... and no this never happens to me (I am not a ravenous beast). I do think they deserve one star, because despite everything I do like the flavors of their broth. But considering my whole experience, I'd much rather go to Pho Binh or Pho An on LCW instead, or even try something new, than come back. read more

So I guess Aurora isn't as shady as I thought it would be, woohoo! I really liked this place, I can come here for pho the next time I'm hungover. The menu is unlike other pho places where it's #1 through #15. There's a variety of combinations that you can choose from. For example, I usually like to add extra meatballs to my pho BUT I don't like paying the extra dollar because I'm cheap like that. Pho Tic Tac gives you the option to have pho with meat and meatballs or brisket and meatballs, which I love too. Too bad there isn't one that has all three, but then again, I'd be paying the extra dollar. I can opt out on one of the meats anyway. The service was pretty decent too, very sweet people. I also like that they have other choices to choose from, they just don't have banh mi which is a shame although the best banh mi still originates from Little Saigon anyway. Honestly, I was a little hesitant to try this restaurant. Pho Tic Tac proved me wrong! It is not the best of the best but good enough. The interior reminded me of an old Thai restaurant. I wasn't too impressed with the service. I credit them for their speed but forget about you after that. My friend and I shared the Okra Saté, Rice Vermicelli with Shrimp, Pork & Egg Roll and the Fatty Flank & Rare Steak Pho. My fiancé is not a fan of the okra but I loved it. They use fresh whole okra with a peanut and teriyaki sauce on top! yum! In the Vermicelli dish, the Egg Roll was the star. I could have done without the pork and would suggest another option. Was craving pho for a while, and I've always known that Pho Tic Tac was just up the street on Aurora. Read previous reviews on Yelp and sounded like a good place, so we stopped by. Parking can be a little tricky as it's just off of Aurora, and you have to park in the lot that's shared with a casino. Not the greatest parking lot, but if you get your food, you don't care! Walking inside, you can tell it's an older building that had some remodeling in recent years. There were no other customers inside, but the waitress quickly seated us and we ordered. A small brisket pho for myself, and lemongrass chicken for my dad. The wait wasn't as short as some other pho locations (aka Than Brothers, where my longest wait was 3 minutes), but it other customers started trickling in so it wasn't a big deal. The food came out steaming hot, and it was delicious! The pho broth is a little sweeter than other places I've tried, but still yummy. They're very generous with the amount of meat as well as the noodles. The noodles were a little tougher and chewier than what I normally eat, and I prefer softer noodles, but it was okay...not great, just okay. My dad's lemongrass chicken plate was pretty generous with the portions for the price! I believe his dish was around $6, and he had a heap of rice, and lots of veggies, chicken, and whatever else was in his dish. Their menu is definitely reasonably priced, and the pho was tasty. Bf and I are moving 20 blocks down to an apartment building that allows dogs (because I'm picking up my golden retriever puppy in TEN days!!) and we decided to reward ourselves with a nice bowl of pho for the hard work. We both had the special combo, pho dac biet, which cost a little more than the other bowls. The broth was not as flavorful and meaty and was on the lighter side. The lime slices were too thin and they only gave us 4 slices of jalapeno all together. I love the taste of jalapeno (and lime) in my soup, so I usually load up on the jalapeno. Four slices was not enough even for me alone. No big deal, you can always request more. There was a good amount of beef, tripe, and tendon. In my house, if you can get all 4 family members to agree on a place to eat, it's a winner. Pho Tic Tac is one of those places. By far, this is my son's #1 choice of places to eat. He loves their kid's pho and I love the price. I always get pho as well and often get fried tofu and eggrolls. For the rest of the family members, they rotate between pho and grilled options like chow mein and combo plates. I can honestly say that the food and prices have always been excellent! The 4-star review is not a 5-star review for very particular reasons. We often order lemonade and 95% of the time, they will forget, not once, but multiple times. We have never gotten the lemonade before the food has come and more often than not, received it when we are almost done eating. The other reason for the 4-star review is for less than stellar service when calling in orders. Make no mistake, Pho Tic Tac is ridiculously busy. At times, we call in our orders and pick them up. Our orders are only acceptable 50% of the time. Once, we got all the way home and found our order was wrong. One of our dishes had been replaced by another. Another time, we went to pick our order up and it was not done after 20 minutes and we had to wait an ADDITIONAL 20 minutes as we watched others order and pick up, all while we waited. We've learned that we should always eat at the restaurant. That's fine with us, again, since we all agree, it's a great time for our family to get together and enjoy food that we all love. read more

My 100th review! Pho Tic Tac is a solid place to come and get your Vietnamese food fix. They have decent pho that has a solid broth. I personally prefer another pho place as my go-to but my lady loves this place because they have wonton pho and that can be difficult to find. My one gripe with tic tac is that they "slice" or "shave" their chicken rather than shred it or pull it. It makes the pho ga harder to eat and also makes the meat seam strange to me....dunno why. If Yelp did half stars I would give them 3.5 but I'm not going to knock a business a full star just because I don't like the way they cut and serve the chicken. Especially since my lady loves the place. They have a number of other dishes to choose from other than pho. Which can be nice if you're with someone not craving pho. Another bonus is that they have fresh chili paste and the dried/fried chili oil on the table instead of one or the other. Prices are VERY reasonable. I decided to get some spring and summer rolls to placate the rumbly tumbly noises and after sampling both, everyone was quite pleased that I did. Good texture on the rice paper rolls and the ingredients were nicely fresh. The main courses arrived and again, everyone was pleased with the appearance and flavour of their choices. I would recommend their restaurant for their menu + the prices. We ate cheaper than we had intended which meant heading down for some tasty frozen yoghurt afterward. My only complaint is that I had to flag down our waitress for water refills - this is a major pet peeve of mine since I usually just stick with water. She was friendly and took our order quickly. I usually go here during weekdays and they never look so busy like this friday night. There was one group unhappy because they were waiting for the dessert but it took so long and they got mad. Used to be my favorite pho place whenever I'm in the area. Not anymore. Went in after luncb, and only one customer was there. I ordered my usual XL no. 20 which is steak and meatballs. The same waiter that always there took the order and even repeated the order. Got the order wrong, but didnt say anything, since it was still contain steak and meatballs in the soup. Got up and pay, the same guy rang in 10.95 plus 2 dollar plus tax, came up $ 14 some change. I said why the extra, he said well no. 26 is the combo, thats why its a dollar more.
