Our go-to for Vietnamese in Silver Spring. They are friendly, quick and make reliably good food. We enjoy the summer rolls, pho tai, pho ga, pho chay (with fried tofu because it's better) and bun ga nuong (grilled chicken over vermicelli). One watch-out: Be sure to check that your order is correct when getting takeout. We've gotten someone else's order a few times, but the folks at Pho Tan Vinh handle it well. read more

A pho place that's next to a county liquor store? Who could ask for more? Pho Tan Vinh is pretty special. The ambience is subtle and non formal. A T.V. in the corner plays CNN. The smell of spices and basil linger in the air. Even when most tables are full, it isn't too loud. On this particular visit, we enjoyed crispy spring rolls, and summer rolls with shrimp. The spring rolls were hot and flavorful, while the summer rolls were very fresh and light. I had the beef tenderloin pho. The beef was very tender, so tender that it almost melts in your mouth. The broth was amazing. (I normally doctor pho with a bunch of siracha to give it flavor) but I did not have to for this one Something of note to me is that they offer beer and liquor. I don't even know how many great things I can say about this place: Staff is super friendly, accommodating, and attentive. Portions are extremely generous. They serve liquor, which is always a plus. I think the Pho soups are okay...not the best... I have only ordered here because it was one of the only Pho places that are in Downtown Silver Spring (thats what I thought...). Be aware when ordering on UberEats they scam you on the portions. They will only fill the container halfway with soup and barely give any noodles or meat which I don't think is fair at all! read more

Came here with a friend for lunch and we had no difficulty getting a seat. The staff don't speak English well but they were nice and courteous. I ordered the Pho Tai (the round eye meat). I ordered the small and after taxes it came out to be $9.01. One thing I really appreciated was the acceptance of credit card. The other nearby Vietnamese restaurant requires a minimum charge of $10. I personally don't think it's warranted. I also asked if this place sold the broken rice and they did not. I am just going to assume that the places here just don't sell it. I am not sure why though. The broth from this place was much better than the other place. Had more flavor and depth of flavor. However, I felt the meat was better at the other place. The meat here wasn't as tender and it was slightly overcooked (prob my fault). The decor of the place is fairly modern and spacious enough to sit comfortably. I decided to check out this Vietnamese restaurant because I had a cold and they had vegetarian options for soup. The Pho Chay was just OK, but its possible through my congestion I couldn't taste all the flavors. Although I enjoyed the snow mushrooms in the vegan spring rolls, they were very, very greasy. FYI, they have a $10 minimum for cards, so bring cash or plan to order more than one small thing. Can't believe I've never written a review of Pho Tan Vinh before! Easily one of my family's favorite restaurants in DTSS. It's a value-for-the-money thing. The food is 4 to 4.5 stars, but the price is so low, it deserves 5. The atmosphere and decor are lovely at this price point and the service is more than adequate. We always get the pho and the bun (bowl w/vermicelli) and usually get the wings, though they take a little longer. Everything is amazing here, though-- I especially love their special banh mi with steak and egg-- the bread is to die for, and I'm not a big bread person. I'm a big advocate for trying things twice and I'm glad this time was much better than the 1st. I tried both the chicken and beef broth pho and I prefer the chicken one more here. The beef one is good but the chicken one was slightly better. Essential elements that makes this a great pho shop in my mind AKA things they get right on the money! 1)Pho comes with lots of noodles 2)Fresh bean sprouts and greens 3)Piping hot broth - perfect temperature for actually cooking your beef brisket! I have been a regular customer since 2019 but this incident happened on Thursday night (6/23/2022). I had ordered the veggie pho in the past and it never went wrong. But this time, they had put half the amount of noodles as usual and I had found 2 flies in my soup. I notified the server and asked if he could take it off the tab as finding bugs in food is never acceptable, he said he would take it to the owner. The owner spoke with me and began to yell, saying that she could not control the bugs in the soup and that since I ate half of it, she couldn't take it off the bill. I think that is completely unacceptable as I could get sick from eating bug-infested soup. Also, every kitchen should control bug issues in the kitchen, it is unsanitary not to. The server ended up giving me a 50% discount on my pho order. I was dissatisfied with the way the owner handled the situation. Walking distance from hotel late on a Sunday night was a blessing. The beef Pho soup was absolutely amazing. They were close to closing time but the soup came out piping hot and delicious. I've been a regular since they opened some years ago. On average, I go three times a month. What sets this Vietnamese restaurant apart from others is the friendly, prompt and attentive service. The food here is pretty good and I've been coming off and on for years. However, the salesperson was exceptionally rude to my fiancé on my last visit. For some reason, he thought my fiancé was an uber driver and yelled at him when he saw him holding the shopping bag with my food. His yelling was so extreme, I was confused about who he was yelling at. When I told him we were together, he apologized but no one should be spoken to like that uber driver or otherwise. Was craving pho for a while, roommate mentioned there's a pho place 3 minute walk from our apartment and decided to try it out. I've been living in Silver Spring for nearly 4 years and never knew of this place but glad I did! Took my boyfriend for a brief walk (across 2 streets) to this restaurant and we were greeted so kindly and seated promptly (with Covid precaution of course). The waiter was quick to get our order from drinks to appetizers to entrees. There was a family ahead of us when we arrived but the waiter was patient and prompt with his service amidst the noticeable short staff. I ordered a large bowl of veggie pho, my boyfriend ordered the large bowl of beef pho, we ordered a glass of thai iced tea and an order of shrimp spring roll and I got a banh mi to go which totaled to be $38 before tip. They did however got my shrimp banh mi order wrong (they gave me a chicken banh mi instead), not enough for me to give them anything less than 5 stars though. I plan on coming back soon! Trust me I'm Vietnamese and I'm from Atlanta Georgia where the Vietnamese community is very huge . I was scrolling through yelp to find good Vietnamese food but apparently there's a lot of asian fusion restaurant . The " pho tai " is so gooood . The broth is fresh , made correctly like it's homemade . The com ga nhuog is fire . I recommend this authentic Vietnamese restaurant. If I could give more stars I would . Egg was cooked through (I hardly see the point of putting an egg on a long sandwich if it's not runny), and my reasonably fresh to-go banh mi bread wasn't sliced for me so I had to tear it open myself while picnicking in the plaza nearby. Steak was cooked to medium but fairly tender. Summer rolls were slender, shrimp and no pork with hardly any veg. At least the cafe sua da was robust with more french drip than condensed milk like I prefer. Might give them another chance with pho and taro smoothie with bubbles. read more

The Chicken Pho is my absolute favorite (with extra onions)! :) Secondly, their portions are far from controlled! (In a great way) They give you sooo much food for a great price! The owner, Tiffany, is the sweetest and very hardworking! She takes the time to get to know her customers. Hands down the best Vietnamese iced coffee in the DMV. They are also one of the few restaurants with Bun Cha Hanoi (my favorite) that actually tastes like what we had in Hanoi, though a greater quantity of herbs/lettuce would be appreciated. Good and fast service, very reasonable prices. read more

The shrimp was grilled to perfection with just the right amount of spices, the veggies were fresh, and the baguette was perfectly soft, with just the right amount of crunch. I dipped my sandwich in hoisin and sriracha and enjoyed every single bite. The prices are very reasonable, the waiters are friendly, and the restaurant was clean. The food is good, however the customer service is not. I understand that for parties 5 or more, gratuity is included. However, there were only four people in my group and our friend, who did not eat at all and merely sat with us, was counted as a fifth person. And as a result, an 18% gratuity was added to our bill. My friend said that if he had known that he would have counted as a fifth person, he would have just waited for us somewhere else. When I tried to explain the situation to our waiter, he was not understanding at all and as a result, we had to shoulder the extra cost. I would understand if the restaurant was packed and we took up the only available table of five, but the restaurant was 95% empty with many empty tables and chairs. Also, I think an 18% gratuity is quite large for their service. The waiters are not very attentive. tl;dr - highly disappointed in the service, as usual. One of the first pho places I visited once I arrived here and sadly I was very underwhelmed. I feel compelled to believe I caught them on an off-day as the broth I tasted that day was quite flat and lacking in aromatics. As I began to lacklusterly dig into my medium sized 'large order' I noticed a lack of the need to slurp the noodles. While some might enjoy not having to slurp or bite their noodles to avoid slurping I love it. Slurping allows you enhance the flavor of the food by incorporating what you smell into the mix. Slight technicial note but important none the less. The noodles were also quite soft almost not even needing teeth to enjoy them.
