I would rate 0 stars if I could. I Found a hair in my soup and the worker yelled at us and kicked us out the restaurant. I asked her to simply remake the soup but she refused and told us to leave the restaurant. read more

Ordered takeout on a Friday evening. Food was ready when we arrived and it looked very clean inside. Got home and had a wonderful dinner of veggie pho and shrimp and noodle soup. We also had summer rolls (not crispy) which were tasty. The food was fresh and was very very good. Recommended!!! read more

I've been eating there for 7 years since we moved to downtown SS. There have been recent staff changes and yes, the pho broth has also changed. The new broth was a bit too sweet for me at first, but on my most recent visit, it was not too sweet. The new broth also has more beefy/fatty taste than the previous version, which I appreciate. read more

Our go-to for Vietnamese in Silver Spring. They are friendly, quick and make reliably good food. We enjoy the summer rolls, pho tai, pho ga, pho chay (with fried tofu because it's better) and bun ga nuong (grilled chicken over vermicelli). One watch-out: Be sure to check that your order is correct when getting takeout. We've gotten someone else's order a few times, but the folks at Pho Tan Vinh handle it well. read more

A pho place that's next to a county liquor store? Who could ask for more? Pho Tan Vinh is pretty special. The ambience is subtle and non formal. A T.V. in the corner plays CNN. The smell of spices and basil linger in the air. Even when most tables are full, it isn't too loud. On this particular visit, we enjoyed crispy spring rolls, and summer rolls with shrimp. The spring rolls were hot and flavorful, while the summer rolls were very fresh and light. I had the beef tenderloin pho. The beef was very tender, so tender that it almost melts in your mouth. The broth was amazing. (I normally doctor pho with a bunch of siracha to give it flavor) but I did not have to for this one Something of note to me is that they offer beer and liquor. Many other pho places I've tried do not. read more

Came here for dinner Pros: - Reasonable prices and portion sizes - Food comes out extremely quick so if you are hungry, come here! - Employees were friendly and efficient - refilling our order, asking how we are doing - Summer roll was nicely filled aka there was not excess rice noodle with small shrimps - Pho with brisket and medium rare eye round was delicious - good portions of meat and noodles (they don't skimp on meat) Cons: - Parking really sucks. Restaurant is located on a really busy street (more than three traffic lanes) so difficult to parallel park on the main street read more

This is a convenient location to get pho if you live or work near Silver Spring. The service is decent. It was hard to get their attention at times, but the food is good. Just a regular pho restaurant. read more

We love the pho and the vermicelli. It's one of our usual pick up places. Kids enjoy the pho ga (chicken), and the summer rolls are a "must" every time as they are fresh and come with a tasty peanut sauce. read more

For my first time trying Pho, the food was great! The employees did not bring any energy in the place which made the service dull. Shrimp Rolls were yummy but the service did not do Justice bc they assumed I was taking out without asking and I had to send my Pho back . read more

I don't even know how many great things I can say about this place: Staff is super friendly, accommodating, and attentive. Portions are extremely generous. They serve liquor, which is always a plus. Food is on point. The the pho was delicious and had the extremely comforting taste that I had been craving. Everything else from the spring rolls, summer rolls, and the meat and rice platters were also fantastic. Craving some pho? Give this place a try! read more

I think the Pho soups are okay...not the best... I have only ordered here because it was one of the only Pho places that are in Downtown Silver Spring (thats what I thought...). Be aware when ordering on UberEats they scam you on the portions. They will only fill the container halfway with soup and barely give any noodles or meat which I don't think is fair at all! read more

Came here with a friend for lunch and we had no difficulty getting a seat. The staff don't speak English well but they were nice and courteous. I ordered the Pho Tai (the round eye meat). I ordered the small and after taxes it came out to be $9.01. One thing I really appreciated was the acceptance of credit card. The other nearby Vietnamese restaurant requires a minimum charge of $10. I personally don't think it's warranted. I also asked if this place sold the broken rice and they did not. I am just going to assume that the places here just don't sell it. I am not sure why though. The broth from this place was much better than the other place. Had more flavor and depth of flavor. However, I felt the meat was better at the other place. The meat here wasn't as tender and it was slightly overcooked (prob my fault). The decor of the place is fairly modern and spacious enough to sit comfortably. Overall I would recommend this place and will definitely be coming back. read more

Pho Tan Vinh is the best pho I've had in the DMV. Now that I've found Pho Tan Vinh (well my friends found it and told my wife who took me...so essentially I found it), I need to find more excuses to make my way up to Silver Spring. As is key to any pho, it's the broth. I don't know what they've got going on in that pot, but it's a slow simmered symphony of deliciousness. When's my next bowl? read more

I decided to check out this Vietnamese restaurant because I had a cold and they had vegetarian options for soup. The Pho Chay was just OK, but its possible through my congestion I couldn't taste all the flavors. Although I enjoyed the snow mushrooms in the vegan spring rolls, they were very, very greasy. FYI, they have a $10 minimum for cards, so bring cash or plan to order more than one small thing. Service is really fast though, which is nice if you are in a hurry to get back to work from lunch. read more

Can't believe I've never written a review of Pho Tan Vinh before! Easily one of my family's favorite restaurants in DTSS. It's a value-for-the-money thing. The food is 4 to 4.5 stars, but the price is so low, it deserves 5. The atmosphere and decor are lovely at this price point and the service is more than adequate. We always get the pho and the bun (bowl w/vermicelli) and usually get the wings, though they take a little longer. Everything is amazing here, though-- I especially love their special banh mi with steak and egg-- the bread is to die for, and I'm not a big bread person. And you walk away for like, $25-40 for two people, including tip. Incredible. A SS gem. read more

This place has been going downhill over the past couple of months since ownership changed! I used to come here 3-4 times per week but, now every time I go, they're out of something like (Broth) or other essentials!! You're a Pho restaurant, how in God's name do you run out of broth at 12:30pm in a Monday?? Yesterday, I circled the store 5 times in search of a parking space only to finally get outside to find out that their credit card machine was not working! Today, I called on my way there to ensure their machine was working only to get here to find out that TODAY'S ISSUE was they had no broth!! I'm Done With This Poorly manages establishment!! Save your time and money and just drive right pass this spot!! No Instant Replay! Update!! They have really gotten it together! I'm a big advocate for trying things twice and I'm glad this time was much better than the 1st. I tried both the chicken and beef broth pho and I prefer the chicken one more here. The beef one is good but the chicken one was slightly better. Essential elements that makes this a great pho shop in my mind AKA things they get right on the money! 1)Pho comes with lots of noodles 2)Fresh bean sprouts and greens 3)Piping hot broth - perfect temperature for actually cooking your beef brisket! YES, a place that understands I do not want tepid broth! Other than their weird carry out fee, $10 credit card minimum, and it being $8.50 a bowl (which is a little more than the usual), it's a good place to go for pho in the area. Glad I found my new go-to pho place! read more

Walking distance from hotel late on a Sunday night was a blessing. The beef Pho soup was absolutely amazing. They were close to closing time but the soup came out piping hot and delicious. Two and a half stars. Cute interior, polite staff, empty tables. Egg was cooked through (I hardly see the point of putting an egg on a long sandwich if it's not runny), and my reasonably fresh to-go banh mi bread wasn't sliced for me so I had to tear it open myself while picnicking in the plaza nearby. Steak was cooked to medium but fairly tender. Summer rolls were slender, shrimp and no pork with hardly any veg. At least the cafe sua da was robust with more french drip than condensed milk like I prefer. Might give them another chance with pho and taro smoothie with bubbles. read more

I have been a regular customer since 2019 but this incident happened on Thursday night (6/23/2022). I had ordered the veggie pho in the past and it never went wrong. But this time, they had put half the amount of noodles as usual and I had found 2 flies in my soup. I notified the server and asked if he could take it off the tab as finding bugs in food is never acceptable, he said he would take it to the owner. The owner spoke with me and began to yell, saying that she could not control the bugs in the soup and that since I ate half of it, she couldn't take it off the bill. I think that is completely unacceptable as I could get sick from eating bug-infested soup. Also, every kitchen should control bug issues in the kitchen, it is unsanitary not to. The server ended up giving me a 50% discount on my pho order. I was dissatisfied with the way the owner handled the situation. Regrettably, this spot has lost a loyal customer, which is too bad because I had recommended this place to many family and friends. read more

After our third visit in 10 days, I feel compelled to write a review about this wonderful place!! First, allow me to profess that their Pho is the BEST in the area!! The Chicken Pho is my absolute favorite (with extra onions)! :) Secondly, their portions are far from controlled! (In a great way) They give you sooo much food for a great price! The owner, Tiffany, is the sweetest and very hardworking! She takes the time to get to know her customers. We are now regulars! :) Menu Items We've Tried: Chicken Pho Chicken Wings (in fish sauce) - interesting smell, phenomenal taste! Rib Rolls - AMAZING!!! I've been a regular since they opened some years ago. On average, I go three times a month. What sets this Vietnamese restaurant apart from others is the friendly, prompt and attentive service. Meh. I came here excited because it was new and close to my house. Although the prices are pretty reasonable, I felt that the broth was pretty bland. The sign of a good pho place is when you walk out after eating, your clothes still smell like pho. We also ordered the summer rolls, which had small shrimp in it and no pork. Boohoo :( I did enjoy the peanut sauce it came with though! I guess I will have to keep looking for a good pho spot. read more

I ordered a shrimp banh mi without pate and mayo and it was excellent! The shrimp was grilled to perfection with just the right amount of spices, the veggies were fresh, and the baguette was perfectly soft, with just the right amount of crunch. I dipped my sandwich in hoisin and sriracha and enjoyed every single bite. The prices are very reasonable, the waiters are friendly, and the restaurant was clean. I'll most definitely eat here again. read more

The food here is pretty good and I've been coming off and on for years. However, the salesperson was exceptionally rude to my fiancé on my last visit. For some reason, he thought my fiancé was an uber driver and yelled at him when he saw him holding the shopping bag with my food. His yelling was so extreme, I was confused about who he was yelling at. When I told him we were together, he apologized but no one should be spoken to like that uber driver or otherwise. Sadly, I won't be returning. read more

Was craving pho for a while, roommate mentioned there's a pho place 3 minute walk from our apartment and decided to try it out. I've been living in Silver Spring for nearly 4 years and never knew of this place but glad I did! Took my boyfriend for a brief walk (across 2 streets) to this restaurant and we were greeted so kindly and seated promptly (with Covid precaution of course). The waiter was quick to get our order from drinks to appetizers to entrees. There was a family ahead of us when we arrived but the waiter was patient and prompt with his service amidst the noticeable short staff. I ordered a large bowl of veggie pho, my boyfriend ordered the large bowl of beef pho, we ordered a glass of thai iced tea and an order of shrimp spring roll and I got a banh mi to go which totaled to be $38 before tip. They did however got my shrimp banh mi order wrong (they gave me a chicken banh mi instead), not enough for me to give them anything less than 5 stars though. I plan on coming back soon! Will update with photos. read more

I'd give it 4 stars if the pho was better...now that I've been here 3-4 times and tried several items I feel like I can properly review it. Don't get me wrong, the Pho is good...just not the best compared to other items on menu. Not drenched in fish sauce (which is how I feel like the other downtown SS pho place is). Get the Banh mi. Any with beef or pork. I especially liked the one that comes on the hot platter (I think it's the first item on the banh mi page). But it's also the most expensive one. Bread was fresh the 2x that I tried. Pate was good and funky like the way it's suppose to be. The grilled Hanoi pork fish was really good too. Summer rolls were skinny and did not have the amount of veggies I normally see. Overall, good but not great. But...it's close! read more

So i went here again and ordered summer roll and pho. Summer Roll tasted great as always. Unfortunately the same could not be said for the pho. The pho (broth) was definitely lacking in flavor. The taste made me think as if the chef just added more water to the pot because they were running low on the broth; it was watered down. Maybe a novice diner wouldn't be able to tell a difference, but you can't fool a pho- veteran. I ordered the small bowl and didn't even feel like finishing it. read more

The worse of the places the food tastes disgusting and too expensive, in addition to that too miserable are the portions. Terrible service from the rude and stupid manager. read more

Silver Spring is loaded with restaurants where 2 people can have a nice meal for around $25. This is one of the them. Many of the Vietnamese restaurants I have been to are a little shabby inside, drafty in winter, with a dreary decor. This place is none of those things. The interior was clean and comfortable, the room was warm in February, and here is a bonus. There are exquisite black and white photos on the wall that would not look out of place at a photo gallery. However, a large screen TV turned on mute dominated one of the walls. But maybe some patrons are looking for that sort of thing. You can also amuse yourself with their free wifi if you choose. So my wife and I had three items. We started with a spring roll that had basil shrimp and rice vermicelli inside. You could dunk it in peanut sauce to bring on a nice medley of flavors. Then we split the grilled chicken banh mi sandwich. It also had a lot going on. Grilled chicken, cucumber, pickled carrot, pickled daikon, a few cilantro leaves, soy and mayo. The roll was nice and light with a crisp crust. Finally, we chose the pho special which had thin strips of tenderloin. This meat was of unusually high quality, and was well worth the few extra dollars that it cost. You will find a lot of dinners for two for under $25, but not many of them will be this good. read more

A great find! My parents and I were craving Vietnamese food after a weeklong vacation in Mexico, and I found this place after reading the good reviews on Yelp. I noticed that we were one of the few Vietnamese customers in the restaurant, so I was a little wary at first. I shouldn't have been. The owner/manager was very nice and accommodating; she suggested a bunch of dishes on the menu to us. We ended up ordering the pho and the spring rolls. The pho was hot, the beef broth was delicious, and honestly the small bowl was huge. There was even pho for the one vegetarian in our group! The spring rolls were crispy and hot, with a good meat to wrap ratio. Overall, five solid yelps. I'm usually pickier with Vietnamese food since I've grown up eating it my entire life, but Pho Tan Vinh does not disappoint. read more

My husband and I stopped in for lunch on Sunday. The food was very good. We had the Shaky beef, which was tender and very flavorful. We also had the caramelized fish in clay pot. Although the favors were good the fish itself was not that great. It was basically frozen tilapia fillets. Not sure if this dish is usually made with fillets of fish but I'm betting it would have tasted much better if they used whole fish! The food deserves 4 stars!! The service was not excellent. My husband and I felt ignored, while we watched other patrons get the full attention of wait staff. There were 3 other parties there when we were. I didn't want to say anything but we were never offered drinks or even asked if we wanted to try desert. As we paid our bill and walked away I asked my husband how he felt about the overall experience and he confirmed he felt a bit ignored as well. Minus one star for the bad service. read more

I and my fiance tried out this restaurant just opened. We tried their pho. They have clear broth with rich flavor and taste. You may notice star anise. Its flavor is strong relative to other pho restaurants around here. Brisket, tendon, tripe ... all meats were cooked well and flavorful. The quality of beam sprouts were surprisingly good. (If you haven't experienced, beam sprouts do have their own flavor!) The amount of condiments were moderate, but sufficient to my taste. Overall, I was quite satisfied with their pho. We also ordered some beverages. Their Vietnamese coffee (iced, with condensed milk) was nice and strong. Thai iced tea is what you would expect. Unfortunately they did not have smoothies yet. We shall try one next time. Their menu have some room for improvement, I think, given that the staff had to ask a few times to make sure the order is right. Each entry of the menu is separately numbered for each section. It would be easier for both customers and new waiters/waitresses to have alphabets for each section. (There were a few "first day of the business" typical problems, but I'm not gonna bother mentioning them.) In sum, I liked this place and hope their business goes well. It is a good addition to Silver Spring, even though we do have fairly good pho restaurants around here. The design of the interior is clean and polished. The glass wall to the front made the place open and well-lighted. I can recommend this place for both couples and families. read more
