    Steak Pho

I stopped in here for a quick lunch and I'm so happy I did. I was warmly greeted and told to have any table by the window. These are all set for 2 or maybe 3 so I happily picked out a table with a view. I settled on the beef for my 1st time here, ordered medium rare. It was pink on arrival and quickly cooked the rest of the way. I was served a lovely platter of bean sprouts, peppers, etc to add right into the hot soup. In a flash, the soup appeared emitting an aromatic fragrance to be enhanced with the fresh vegetables and herbs. Truly tasty, full of flavor ready to customize to your tastes. Hot sauce and soy sauce are on the table. I like a fairly low salt content in my food and this was just about right. The bowl was so big and the meat so delicious and tender, I had to take half of it home and now I have dinner to look forward to.

We returned to Pho Tam after a long absence. I'm not sure why it took so long, but we came back in a big way with an extended family party of 10 to enjoy a celebration dinner. It was a very nice and relaxed venue for such and our servings were delicious and generous and good values. Chris Tam was the friendly and energetic owner on duty, and he and his staff took good care of our party. Their space is airy and comfortable and on a warm evening, it was comfortable dining - not too warm and not too cold as some places can be. We ordered an appetizer plate as well as a variety of pho bowls and rice dishes. They have a kid's pho bowl but it's still sizeable at $14.95 versus a regular pho bowl with 1 meat at $16.45. I personally very much enjoyed my BBQ short rib with rice plate and the grilled flavor was rich and tasty. You can peruse the photos and itemized bill for what we had, but the total bill for our party of 10 was a very reasonable $247.38 and which included the mandatory and well deserved 18% gratuity. Thank you Chris and continued good luck!

Pho Tam is our go to every time we are in the area! Portion sizes are huge.. food comes out hot and delicious! Would definitely recommend coming here for a nice meal!

If you're looking for fantastic Vietnamese food, this is the place to go. The Pho is authentic and never disappoints. Our favorites are the fresh shrimp spring rolls and the lemongrass chicken bahn mi sandwich. The staff is very friendly and the dining area has plenty of seating, so bring along as many as you want. Highly recommended!

First time visit here. A few knocks: - the appetizer platter was served with a long black hair on one of the spring rolls. It also had A VERY pungent fish sauce smell, which was not a pleasant aroma when served. I would say the star of the appetizer offerings was the eggrolls. - while the banh mi was served on a crusty French baguette, and the meat tasted savory, it didn't taste super fresh, and I was left with that bloated feeling of having consumed too much MSG for the rest of the evening. - our orders were taken in a disorganized manner, and the food was served in the same way. The waitstaff didn't know who ordered what, causing some confusion, and it would have been nice to have plates delivered to the proper seat with ease. - the space (a former Pizza Hut) is dated I did appreciate the extensive menu, with lots of pho choices and hot entrees. There are also a few kid sized pho options.

It was pretty quiet when I went for lunch, but I don't see why. I was seated right away and the staff was very friend, welcoming, and attentive. The restaurant was very clean as well. I ordered the pho. The portion was larger than what I usually see. It was rich, full of flavor, and delicious. The meat was tender and the veggies were fresh. It hit the spot. This is a spot I'll be visiting again.

This place is pretty good - overall the flavors are there and pretty bold so I'm pleased about that. They give you a good amount of veggies and beef so that's a plus. I would just say for the bon bu hue the broth can be spicier and also add in pork blood and pork knuckle. Outside of that, this is a good place for pho in Nile's. Can still improve on the bon bun hue though

My coworker and I stopped by where for lunch because we were in the mood for pho. The broth is not bad. It's beefy and flavorful, but I did find it a tad salty for me. I had the rare meat, meatballs, and tendon. They give a lot of meat though so that's good. They also cut the tendon in big pieces too. Usually they only give a few pieces at other places so that's nice they give a good amount of meat. They seem like really nice people and the place is nice and clean. The parking lot is a little weird though but it's just the plaza haha parking is like around the back.

Amazing broth with generous portions. I've only tried one menu item so far, but this was the bun bo hue flavour I've been looking for. Cafe Hoang has good bun bo hue, but it's a little too sweet for my preference. The one here doesn't come with pig's feet or pig's blood, but there's plenty of beef and pork roll. I guess these cuts of meat make the dish more approachable. I almost felt like there was more meat than noodle. I kept eating the beef, but I kept finding more at the bottom. Also, not sure what it is, but I loved the pork roll they used. There's a noticeable depth and complexity to the broth here that's missing from a lot of the pho restaurants in the area. Good balance of spices too. Since I ate here before the dinner rush, I don't know how busy it normally gets. My food came quickly and I was out the door soon after finishing my food. Prices are a little higher than usual, but it all makes sense when you consider the portion size and labor to make a broth with that flavour. I'm excited to come back and try everything else!

Always friendly, always good food. Clean flavorful pho broth that hits the spot! The noodle salad, coffee, and pork chop platter is amazing too! Very generous portions and clean environment.

I'm not super cultured about these things, but I think Pho Tam is pretty good. It used to be an old Pizza Hut and they turned it into a sort of open layout restaurant that's very square in design. Enough about the look though. The pho portions are good and the broth is tasty and served piping hot. The cost is based on the number of meats you add, so you can go small or go big. There's basil and bean sprouts that cook up in that hot soup. We also got the prawn rolls (I think) and surprised to see some sort of root veg in there. Delightfully surprised. I think it was taro? I admit I've often gotten the pho there so I haven't branched out to the other dishes. The service is tiny inconsistent. You might need to flag someone down to get the sprouts or something, but it's no big thing.

Not may restaurants serve Jasmine tea. It was such a treat that they had it! Delicious. For appetizers we had the Vietnamese spring rolls and the pork belly. Outstanding. Everyone you just have to eat here it's so good. The pork was crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, and chewy on the inside. Juicy too. It was so good. I wish they had just brought out a small bowl of it. The spring rolls were generously stuffed and the peanut sauce it came with was on point and only enhanced by the table hoisin sauce. I would eat here daily if I could. Anyone who lives in this area is so spoiled to have this down the street. For the Pho, I had the meat combo so I got a little bit of everything. My only feedback would be that the veggies that come with the soup are sparse and I wish more Thai basil came on the plate. They loaded up on the bean sprouts though and that was awesome. Really I am being picky and everything here is top notch. The place is smaller so I'd recommend visiting on off-peak hours so you can spread out and relax with some tea. I really enjoyed myself here. I NEVER leave negative reviews as I spent over 18 years working in food & beverage, and I know how incredibly difficult it can be for small businesses to maintain a good reputation... but I absolutely cannot look past this. My family went in there for lunch today and the man working at the counter gave us the worst dining experience of our lives. For 4 people, we ordered 3 meals + 1 pho to share. Guy asks, "would you like extra bowls?" We said yes, and under his breath he said, "Ha, typical" .... As if that weren't enough, as we were completing the order and walking away, he said, "ha, Mexicans." Despite the disrespect we STILL didn't say anything. But then my dad went up to the service counter to ask a question and the guy who was working responded with, "Que Paso?" in a mocking way. At this point, we had enough of the blatant disrespect. I love my Mexican brothers, sisters & neighbors... oftentimes, I consider it a compliment to be mistaken for Mexican (we are Filipino- lots of similarities in our cultures)... that is not what I take issue with. I take issue with the fact that he said it in a derogatory, offensive, and racist manner. I am sickened by the implication that race or ethnicity has anything to do with the service we deserve. This man had the nerve to do that to my elderly parents who have legally been in America for over 40 years. This behavior is inexcusable. Once again, I worked in food & beverage for over 18 years. My family is well-versed in showing kindness to their servers, tipping well over 20%, and giving grace - even when service sucks or mistakes are made. It's unfortunate that this business didn't have the opportunity to earn our repeat business; it probably could have helped them out since it appears that they're already struggling (every seat was empty - wonder why)

There isn't a single weak item here. Everything is consistently fresh, balanced, and made with real care. After almost a decade of eating here, I can confidently say this is the best Vietnamese food in the entire city... and yes, that includes the spots on Argyle. One of the biggest reasons Dung Gia stands above the rest is their approach to seasoning. They use little to no MSG, which is almost unheard of nowadays. A lot of Chicago restaurants -- especially around Argyle -- rely on extremely heavy MSG and oil to artificially boost flavor. It might make the food "pop" at first bite, but it's not real cooking, and you feel it afterward. Dung Gia's dishes taste clean, fresh, and naturally flavorful because they're made correctly, not covered in shortcuts. If someone is used to heavy-MSG places, they might think the flavors here taste "different" -- but that's because this is how Vietnamese food is supposed to taste. Once you adjust, everything else feels oily and artificial in comparison. And the service? Always fantastic. The staff has treated us like family for years. They're kind, attentive, and genuinely care about the experience you're having. Even when the place is busy, they're fast, friendly, and on top of everything. It's rare nowadays to find a restaurant where the food and the service are BOTH consistently this good. My wife and I hardly eat out anymore, but when we do, Dung Gia is literally the only place we choose. Even though we live closer to Argyle, we will happily drive right past all those restaurants because nothing compares to this place. The quality, the consistency, the portion sizes, the freshness -- it's unmatched. Whether you go for the pho, the clay pots, the stir-fried noodles, the salads, the broken rice dishes, or the vermicelli bowls, you're getting a meal that tastes homemade, not mass-produced. After almost a decade of dining here, I can confidently say: Dung Gia isn't just good -- it blows every other Vietnamese spot in Chicago out of the water. If you haven't been here yet, you're genuinely missing out on the best hidden gem in the city.
