I think we may have gone on the wrong day and sad to say we had a horrible experience. The food was delicious but service was SO SLOW. We were seated, not given menus. When we got the menus it took forever to even get our order for drinks in. Our drinks never came out until I asked after 20 min and still didn't order. I saw the people next to us and I think they were agitated as well. We ordered and 1/2 goes by and still have not received our drinks. I ordered a hot tea and a can of soda. I finally asked for it and when it came it came in a dirty stained pot that was chipped. The appetizer came on a chipped plate and were not given plates to eat our appetizers. The gave back the tea. What saved this experience was the food and the two waitresses (who I think were the owners kids). The food was excellent. Had the sliced beef pho with pork spring rolls, which were very flavorful and filling. However, it is unfortunate that I went on an extremely busy night because it took over an hour to get our food and drinks. The biggest downfall was the dirty dishes given to us. They were not only dirty, but the teapot and plates were chipped (which can gather bacteria) so they desperately need to replace the dinnerware. It is impressive that i found a pho spot here in Ireland. It's like i knew i could but i wasn't sure. Pho Ta is located in a bit of a hidden spot, a small , nice , clean shop. My toddler is obsessed with pho so we must get our pho fixed. My husand and toddler seem to like the food. While it's no French Vietnamese food, I was pretty impressed with this little Viet restaurant located in Temple Bar area. My friend and I were craving something Asian for dinner and Pho Ta looked to be an affordable option for the both of us after we had dropped tons of money on Guinness. Priorities you know! The interior was very quaint. Small tables seating 4pp max line the area, and during the evening it seems like it would make a good date spot. At the time, I wasn't craving pho in particular, so I decided to try their Pho Phong Bo instead (€10), which contained large pieces of fried rice noodles overlaying some beef stir fry. The presentation was lovely and it tasted like the Viet food I'd get back home in the States. It was definitely one of the heartier dishes that any meat lover would enjoy. My friend went straight for her meatball Banh Mi (€6). Compared to back home, it was fairly small and didn't necessarily incorporate a lot of the ingredients you'd find in Viet sandwiches such as pate. However, it was tasty enough for my friend to say "yes!" to coming back if she ever needed a banh mi fix. Can't argue with the price, atmosphere, and good Vietnamese food here in Dublin. This cold and cloudy weather in Dublin, man oh man did it make me crave pho. Place has pretty good reviews so i came in with an open mind. There was only 1 other party in the restaurant at 4pm. It's located right in the temple bar area. First off, the bowl is pretty small for my standards, especially for the price at €11. There was no hoison sauce available, but the broth was actually pretty flavorful so there was no need. I really enjoyed the flat pho noodles, which are labeled as homemade. Had the perfect bite and did taste better than typical dried rice noodles. The dac biet comes with slices of beef, chicken, and shrimp. Shrimp is definitely not traditional unless you order a seafood pho, but they were fresh and plump so I enjoyed them. The herbs came with lime, chili peppers, bean sprouts, cilantro, and spearmint. The latter is really weird to have with pho, typically reserved for other noodle soup dishes. I also was kinda not feeling the Chinese soundtracks playing over the speakers. Maybe they're half Chinese? Still, it's a Vietnamese restaurant. Servers were very friendly and attentive, as my water was consistently filled. My family and I stopped in for dinner after a long day of tourism, and I was blown away. Our starters were great and very clearly made fresh, with great sauces, my Pho broth was fantastic and I got Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk to try a new coffee beverage, and was very pleasantly surprised as well. The building is super clean and well put together. A somewhat hidden little gem in the mankfest that is Temple Bar. Only recently opened my friends told me about this place and we went for some food before a party we were attending. The staff are amazing. Like just great. Super friendly and accomodating. We need more staff like this in Dublin. Dublin waiting staff really suck balls sometimes. It's great when you get genuine friendliness like this. Vietnamese food can be bland when it's catering for a western pallet. So when I ordered my food I asked for it extra spicy. They offered to bring me some homemade chili paste so I could add the heat myself which was great. I got a mixed meat and fish noodle dish which was was offered dry or with sauce. The sauce I was told was a homemade stock they made that day. So I went with this. It was yummy. The chili paste was also yummy. So much so I ordered another portion of it. It was not too crazy hot and as a chili freak I devoured it no bother. For a Friday evening meal in Temple Bar in really lovely cosy settings for €12 this was a steal. The beers were 4 euro I think a bottle which is also great for Temple Bar. Mostly Asian beers which I do love. Can't wait to go back. My only concern is word will spread too much and I wont get in next time. But for the staffs sake I do hope this happens. Well deserved. Really really enjoyed my meal here the other day. Vietnamese food has this ability to fill you up without making you feel stodgy or uncomfortable, and Pho Ta is no exception. The portions are huge, and it's nearly impossible not to eat everything on your plate because it's all so frickin delicious, but the freshness of the ingredients and the lighter nature of them, mean that you still feel relatively good even though you've had no self control and demolished it all. STAR 3 FOR EMPLOYEE EXCELLENCE: From the moment you enter, and throughout your visit the employees at Pho Ta will make sure your experience at their restaurant is just what you like. If you prefer a more intimate time with your group or date, but need your drinks looked after and questions answered quickly- that's not a problem. I was looking for a good cozy food place for a surprise birthday dinner for my husband and thought of trying a different cuisine in Dublin. The place seemed to be new (they don't have a webpage yet just Facebook page) but it looked promising and I am glad we went here. Its a quiet, cozy place with 2 floors and a warm ambiance. Main highlights: -BYOB, when I called to reserve, I asked about BYOB - they said YES with a 4 Euro corkage fee. Reasonable enough! -Pretty good food at reasonable prices when compared with other restaurants in Dublin (The most expensive main course is for 9.5 Euros) -The main course portions are of great size, bring an appetite - Service, the staff was always smiling and attentive - Food/Menu, their menu is great; there are photos of each dish with a description of the ingredients. Impressive! We ordered summer roles with peanut sauce (the rice rolls were very fresh and the sauce was so yummy- I could just eat that!), prawn cake was good too. Chicken noodle soup was decent with lots of veggies but could be a bit bland for some people (May be we should have opted for another main instead). My sautéed rice noodles with veggies turned out to be pretty good choice. For dessert, we tried typical Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk - a bit strong but an excellent taste none the less! They have been open for just about 9 weeks and it's a good option in Temple bar if you are looking to try different food. We would love to go back and try more varieties :-) read more

We had a lovely meal here the other day. Temple Bar area isn't my usual hunting ground but a friend was playing a gig in Gypsy Rose so we wanted to eat somewhere close-by. And what a great choice Pho Ta turned out to be. We had different pho, noodle cakes and a few starters between us and everything, like really everything was delicious. For the pho you can pick your broth: beef or chicken. I picked chicken, just because I never had that and one of my mates picked the same dish with beef broth. Both tasted pretty similar, there really wasn't much in the difference at all. They had a decent wine selection as well and sadly I can't comment on the desserts as we were too full from the huge portions. One star taken off for not having air-con or any form of air circulation. We were roasting the minute we sat down which was quite uncomfortable and put me off ordering something spicy. read more

When you enter Pho Ta, you will be thrown into the beautiful decor and ambience of Vietnam. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. The menu is filled with authentic dishes. I had to have the beautifully crafted Vietnamese coffee to start with. I do not like coffee usually but in Vietnam, it's an experience. I got the Cafe Trung, Vietnamese coffee made with egg. Sounds weird but tastes like heaven. For food I got the Bun Nem Cha Nuong, rice vermicelli with pork rolls and grilled pork. Deliciously soft vermicelli with crunchy flavourful pork. You cannot go wrong with this one. It comes with a sweet and sour fish sauce on the side, perfect for adding a bit more moisture and flavour to the dish as wanted. Chuc suc khoe! My first Vietnamese in Dublin so I was a tad excited. Unfortunately this excitement was unfounded... The place was dead quiet, with slightly overbearing staff. The decor left a lot to be desired as did the lighting of the place. There was an air of mustiness too. I got the lunch deal of a main and a drink for €9.50. Your standard value. The coconut water I got was ok, it had real chunks of coconut in it but also tasted like they added sugar to it. The dish I got, garlic prawns with fried noodles just tasted like your standard Chinese. The waiter told me that the noodles would be 'lightly fried' but they were just completely deep fat fried noodles, very unappealing. The prawns & vegetables were covered in the gloopy sauce we've all come to know & hate from your average Chinese. In short: Not a place that I'll be telling friends about or returning to. read more

My first Pho experience and it was pretty pho-nomenal! (I don't apologize for that.) The downstairs was empty when we came in but apparently seating upstairs is a thing because a few groups went up and it sounded like a real party. The wait staff was very helpful... I was obviously a beginner (may have been my slaughtering the pronunciation on the menu) so when they brought out the dishes they actually did explain what the extras were for and how it's generally eaten, which I was abashedly grateful for! The décor is nice, dark wood and Vietnamese-looking art (though I'd not be an expert on authenticity) and although the ground floor was very quiet and mostly single people or pairs rolling through relatively quickly, the upstairs seemed busier (as mentioned). Food was delicious - only beef was that the broth was not beef broth for one of the soups, which had beef in it so we assumed it would be - turns out it was chicken broth so be sure to read the menu closely when you order or you may be disappointed. Appetizers were exquisite and the peanut sauce was particularly good! Would definitely recommend it. As for main dishes, there was a rice cake thing - can't remember for the life of me what it was called - but we decided to take a risk and order it and it was probably the highlight of our meal. Came with the usual accompaniments(cilantro, bean sprouts, sliced peppers, & lime) but no Thai basil. Beef was rare when placed in front of me, good sign, noodles over cooked, broth was quite bland, no sriracha or hoisin available. The broth was warm, not hot. Service was good, drink list ok. The staff here (girl with short hair and glasses) were so helpful, kind, and replaced my meal incredibly quickly; I couldn't have asked for a better waitress- but the score has to also reflect the food.. I've been here before for other noodle dishes and summer rolls and thought I would try the vegetarian fried noodle cake option, but asked for it with a little spice. I understand that the dish is a little more glutinous or starchy in nature; but the resulting sauce was lukewarm, uncomfortably thick (perhaps from too much starch?) and had almost no distinguishing flavor whatsoever. I don't usually complain, but I tried to eat it for a while and just gave up. It was replaced for no extra charge with the papaya salad and summer rolls. The summer rolls were brighter affairs with a solid peanut dipping sauce and hearty crunch to them- so the meal was saved. Vietnamese food is definitely catching on in Dublin and for a very good reason... this Asian cuisine involves a lot of fresh vegetables, herbs and marinated meat which is very flavoursome but doesn't end up on your hips. Also you don't tend to feel bloated after a big meal which is great for a meal pre-night out! Location is bang on in Temple Bar but in a quiet unassuming street, staff were Vietnamese too so it helps add to the authenticity. Prices are fantastic - nothing over €10! Their house wines are very reasonably priced and quite quaffable. Dishes are standard Vietnamese fare but done very nicely, authentic and delicious but no frills. You definitely come here for the food, not the experience! They have this massive TV on the second floor playing some sort of Asian style musical which is very distracting... If you are the kind of diner who likes fusion Asian food with rainbow coloured fish piled on flower shaped rice and vegetables in 45 degree angles, I'm not sure this is the place for you. read more
