I found this amazing Asian market on my last full day in Dublin. Oh how I wish I'd discovered it on day one. I was told there are plenty around, but this is the one I went to closest to the Temple Bar area. They had any and everything you'd imagine from snacks and seasonings to meals and plenty of cookware. I like to try a variety of international snacks whenever I travel out of the country, this time was no different. It's become a satiable and exciting experience for me over the years. This is my favorite Asian market in dublin, the store from the outside looks tiny, then you walk in and go in to the back, feels like a speakeasy and it's surprising how big it is inside c they got loads of Asian options, from fresh fruits and vegetables, to fresh baked items, to shelf stable snacks and ingredients, noodles and drinks. The staff don't speak English that well, so be prepared to go on a hunt on your own, otherwise I definitely love this place and recommend it. read more

After over a week in England and Western Ireland, I was desperate for cold tea. At least the Starbucks now serves iced tea, because when I was last in London it did not. Everyone looks at me like I am an alien when I ask for it, so I knew upon arriving in Dublin that I could likely find an Asian market that sold what I like. There were several markets in the area but this one was in the city center and easy to find. It took a while to find unsweetened jasmine tea but hunting amongst the drink case, this had information on the back revealing itself. I ended up coming here three different days in Dublin to get more tea. I did look around and the selection here is excellent. I saw produce I would love to see in the U.S., such as Thai pea eggplant. There were so many products here on the shelves and in the refrigerated and frozen sections. I was really impressed. Being Asian, I do a lot of my shopping here since it sells a large number of imported products and low prices. I also like to cook a lot of Japanese food, so I come here to buy Japan imports which I find are much cheaper and more tasty and authentic than British made ones you find in regular supermarkets. Tofu, miso, natto, all kinds of noodles, rice, dashi stock, nori, sake, sweets, fish, gyoza, kimchi, asian vegetables like daikon and bok choy....all here. The vegetables are very cheap and sold in large quantities. Like you get 5 bok choy here for the same price as just 2 in Fallon & Byrne. Same with mushrooms like shimeji and enoki, which are cheaper. You can also find some great imported sauces, sweets, snacks, dried foods etc. from countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan etc. that are only sold here, so it's worth a look. The only negative is that you need to watch out for rotten items and expired stuff. And a lot of stuff has MSG and other chemicals so it's to best read the labels. Also the staff aren't exactly the friendliest or best at english, so I'd recommend knowing exactly what you are looking for to avoid any hassle. The minimum is 10 euro to pay by credit card, and they charge for bags. read more

A very interesting place to do your shopping. Even if you don't do any Asian cooking this is still a great place to come for a little wander around - i especially love seeing all the funny brand names like "wife biscuits" - sit down, good wife !! It's great value if you are buying vegetables especially for things like pak choi or fresh chilies. They have a massive amount of herbs and spices from all over the world and every type of noodle you can think of. My favorite thing is the gyoza (Chinese dumplings) which can be quite hard to find. There is also a little section at the back that sells plates, dishes & woks again at good prices. The staff are certainly not what you would call friendly or helpful so you really need to have an idea of what you need when you go in. They are however very unassuming and don't mind you wandering around for any amount of time looking at things - so you won't feel intimidated in any way. This place is a little treasure trove of treats. Tucked away in the basement, it has everything you could possibly need for an Asian dish. Run by, staffed by and occupied by Asians, you know it's the real deal when you see locals doing their shopping there. They stock bulk quantities of necessities: things like rice, olive oil, herbs, chilli/soy sauce, curry paste etc. You'll get it at a fraction of the cost htat you'd pay in the supermarket. Massive bags of dried chillis, kidney beans and cashew nuts line the floor and the shelves are stacked high with tins of soups and sauces that you will probably never have heard of. The do great frozen fish - calamari, tuna steaks and prawns, ands they are excellent value. I think I spotted 5 big frozen tuna steaks for €10 last time I was here. And their vegetables are so interesting - even just to look at. I spent ages trying to guess different ones, but I was completely off the mark! read more

There are actually a bunch of Asian and Indian food markets in Dublin, a lot more than I was expecting to find. This is great news for me, because I love to cook and these places often have some of the best and most unusual ingredients to be found. One of my favorite things to do is to buy a whole bunch of stuff that I cannot identify and then come home and have a tasting party with friends. Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes it's disgusting and it's always lots of fun. Not for the faint of heart though! Asia Market is just flat out superb, and it's kind of the DL in terms of Asian markets. It's got a huge selection of products that can be used to create incredible Asian dishes. They sell bulk rice, beans and olive oil, so it's a great place to come and save some money if you use these items on a regular basis. Their frozen seafood selection is not to be sneezed at either. Their selection of fruits and vegetables is awesome, fresh and sometimes quite unique. I come here on the reg to find some of the cheapest tofu in Dublin. Don't even THINK about buying it at a grocery store, it will be 50% more expensive. read more

From the outside Asia market just looks like a completely empty shop, but down the back is a little corridor that leads to this enormous market filled with asian delights. It's a little intimidating if you don't know your asian food, and there is some really manky stuff here, but also really good fruit and veg you've never seen before. I very instantly regretted ordering one as soon as I saw the color (grayish brown artificial color) I didn't like the taste at all, no tea flavor and made with mostly powder. Avoid the bubble tea counter in the front of the store. The rest of the market extending into the back was quite large with plenty of products from different parts of Asia. If I wanted Asian products in Dublin, I think I would probably check here first. read more

I've got to tell you - go here and be amazed what East cultures have to offer. Forget your fish and chips and burgers for a day. Also, a lot of frozen sea food here. So people who like that pay a visit. They don't only have food, they got beverages. This place also offers whole sales like packages. SO you can grab a 10kg of rice, for example :-) Insane amount of spices. Just come over and buy something. It took me a year to find this store and I'm glad that I did. Excellent, excellent selection of spices, seafood, and all things Asian. Surprisingly very clean and reasonably organized (most products are clearly labeled in English). To give you an idea of the selection...this weekend I was able to buy Tamarind Paste from Thailand, Wasabi Peas from Japan, Rice Noodles from Vietnam, and spices from India. Prices are great, expect 50% less than you would spend at Tesco for similar produce and seafood without sacrificing quality. Def worth a visit! read more

Chinese veg is cheap in comparison to Irish supermarkets. I buy pak choi, choi sum, tung choi and so on. Pak Choi costs €2.00 for 5 items instead of nearly €3 at Dunnes or Tescos. Sauces, noodles, frozen/fresh dim sum, freshly baked Chinese bread, the prices is good. Try and compare with Fallons and Byrnes and you'll be shocked on what they are charging for some sauces. If you are from Hong Kong, this is definitely the place to shop, there are products from all over Asia, but you will find more Hong Kong products here than any other Asian supermarket. By the way, noodles are super good value as well, and great emergency supply who buys a whole box. :-) read more

This is a great place for students to shop for food. You can get staples such as rice, fruit and vegetables along with some more unusual foodstuffs here. The shop is a lot bigger than it seems from the outside and the staff here are pretty efficient and friendly. One thing I have to keep in mind though is that some of the labels don't tell you the full story of what's inside and you can end up with some pretty disgusting food- in my case it was what I'd assumed was creamed spinach, but turned out to be some sort of cabbage I think. But anyways, cheap but good quality food= happy student shopper. read more

These are faux chicken pieces on sticks. They are hot but you can pat them with a tissue or run them under the tap if you don't like heat. This is the best prepared faux meat you will taste. Also in the fridge find the vegan ribs on what looks like bones but of course aren't. YUMMIE! On shelves nearby find their tins of young green jackfruit to make faux pulled pork. I also bought a large bottle of rice wine which is delicious added to asian food. They have a great variety of tofu etc. This shop is a gem. Now this is the real deal. In comparison to the more flashy Oriental Emporium across the way, well, there is no comparison. This place is cheaper, more diverse and better frequented by those in the know (like me obviously!). Yes it's good for Asian cooking, but it's also a good place to start if you just need to get your essentials for your weekly shopping. Spices like you wouldn't believe, fresh exotic fruit and veg and a ridiculous selection of rice and noodles (10kg of jasmine rice anybody?!), this place has it all. If you know Mandarin or Cantonese or some other Chinese language, that could be an advantage as a lot of the time you are guessing blind. But that's part of the fun. I think. Most of the time. 10% student discount says it is anyway (I'm so not getting rid of my student card any time soon). The staff aren't exactly the most bright-spirited I've ever encountered, and appear to have taken the SARS/Swine Flu fears to a new level (they wear plastic gloves while handling money...and I don't even look that sketchy. A big fan of this place. Huge selection of noodles, sauces, spices, anything you need! I love gyoza and the accompanying dipping sauce that you can get in most Japanese restaurants and was delighted when I found out I could get both the dipping sauce (can be found by the soy sauce) and a HUGE bag of frozen dumplings for under a fiver. The Ashoka range of Indian meals (shelf opposite the noodle shelf) are fantastic too for a quick midweek dinner. The majority of the staff are, let's say, efficient so don't be surprised with the lack of smiles but the last time I visited a younger male member of staff was very cheerful and willing to advise. My only gripe is that sometimes you do need to keep an eye out on the best before dates on the items. read more

I walked in here hoping to satisfy my mochi craving, and I loved the vibe of the place. I loved how I had to walk through an area of Asian decorations before arriving at the actual grocery area. The wall of fortune cats was practically hypnotizing. I walked around the grocery store looking at all of the Asian food offerings, and I was really pleased with their selections. Unfortunately, they only had three flavors of mochi available - green tea, coconut, and black sesame. Since I'm not a fan of the first two, I purchased the latter and hoped for the best. I just had a nashi fruit that I was given for free in the Asia Market yesterday. I wouldn't know what to do without them. They are my supplier of green teas. I am dependent on them. They have a great choice, very reasonable prices (unlike the tea shops in the area) and even high quality teas, such as UJInoTSUYU's Sencha from Kyoto. Of course they have all sorts of foods, not only teas. I am also impressed with their organizational talent in this store. Although it's always packed you will never wait long. This place is tucked away but it's packed with lots of stuff. I have no idea what most of it is, but if even if you're looking for something common like soy sauce you'll have a huge selection (very reasonably priced) and they have some brands you're probably familiar with, I was excited to find a full liter bottle of Kikkoman so cheap (homemade teriyaki sauce, here I come!) They have a produce section, tons of spices, and a great selection of candy and snacks. They also have quite a few things in bulk, which is great because I use vinegar for household cleaning and got a very cheap 5 liter jug for something like 5 euros. I found the younger staff very nice and helpful, I had no idea where to begin with the selection of noodles, but I was able to ask and was directed to the ones best suited for what I wanted to make. Very much looking forward to trying some more recipes now that I have access to the full range of authentic, specialty ingredients; it will be easy to make Japanese, Chinese or Thai dishes. read more

If you are looking for spices and you can't find them anywhere, go to Asia Market. If you want a snack with ingredients written in a language you don't understand, go there too. I like going around the place and get things just because of the packaging and what I guess might be inside. I discovered a lot of things I wouldn't have tried otherwise. I usually go there to buy giant packs of lentils (so what!), Japanese treats for the husband (and myself, it grows into you) and other kitchen staples. The staff is efficient but customer service is pretty basic. I don't mind. It feels like you actually are somewhere is Asia. That and the weird sea food in the fresh section. read more

Love, love, love this place - as I try and experiment with different things the more I like - I recently had the unbranded pork dumplings from the refrigerated section - I followed my own guidance on cooking - no boiling, as the package instructed, but pan fried with my homemade dipping sauce - the best chinese pork dumplings(aka peking ravioli) that I have had in Dublin by far. I also tried some chinese pork pastry from a bakery in London - packed full of tasty sweet pork - but they must be microwaved or heated to bring out the best flavors. I wandered in here in search of edamame- found that and way more! There is an incredible variety in this shop, and it is particularly useful for spices and Asian delicacies that wouldn't be available in any Tesco. There's a great vegetable and fruit section, and a whole row just for spices. Teas, crackers, buns, you name it. I'm definitely going back for the five spice tofu!
