My party and I ordered a good number if dishes from the menu and everything was disgustingly sweet. none of us finished or food everything was pretty much left untouched. Wow....The shrimp spring rolls were bigger than any I've received anywhere else. I would have like a little more mint but still very nice. They also serve it with peanut sauce but unlike most it's served warm which was a pleasant surprise because I usually add some to my pho. The pho is flavorful with all the normal toppings & sauces to customize to your taste. I did notice the noodles here are a little thicker than I've gotten at other places, for me, it didn't really add or take away from the dish. I stopped in for lunch, the service was quick & friendly. If you want yummy Pho....this is the place. We have sampled the available Pho in Memphis and Pho Saigon is definitely the best. The staff is very efficient and always pleasant. The dining room is no nonsense... tables, chairs, bad lighting, horrible music and a new massive flat screen above the register. Everything here is adequate or subpar. Their Vietnamese coffee, their pho, their bun bo hue, their boba, their rice dishes...EVERYTHING. Don't expect refills (this is not unusual for Viet restaurants) or for them to even bring your drinks (happened 3x in a row). My wife and I are on a cross country trip from NYC to SF this April 2008. My wife is Thai and she grew up near the Laotian border and is also quite familiar with Vietnamese food. We couldn't find a Thai restaurant after visiting the Martin Luther King Jr memorial, so we stopped in this place located on the east side of the railroad overpass on Poplar Street. Now, we also live in Thailand part time, so I can come to expect a bit of filth in foreign countries that are borderline third-world. But this is America and when I sat down in the Pho Saigon restaurant I was completely put off by how incredibly filthy the place was. All the floors were full of crud, crumbs and debris. The table-tops were unwiped and the condiments had discusting fingerprints and food all over them; they had not been cleaned in a long time! The service was terrible and they barely said a word to us. They had all their personal junk stuffed in corners of the restaurant like books, business papers, old boxes, etc. The windows were dirty, too. It was quite apparent that they didn't have any pride in their business. So....I declined to eat anything. I couldn't fathom eating from a kitchen I couldn't see when the dining room was so disgusting. My wife, who was very hungry, ordered her clear-glass noodle soup and enjoyed it. But even she agreed that this place was a haven for pests, rats and in need of a health inspector. I say NO WAY...unless you have a stomach made of iron. To top it off, they had old articles framed on the wall about the awards they receieved. Perhaps those awards were given by someone that did take-out and not dine-in. :) read more

This is one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in Memphis. Their vermicelli is the best in Memphis as are their spring rolls. I love the curry chicken soup-it is the ultimate sick food and I crave it when illness strikes wherever I am in the world. Some of their other soups can be a bit bland. They offer an incredibly cheap lunch special. As others have said, this is not a great place for vegetarians and the decor is weak. read more

i wanted this to be good. i really did. but it just wasn't. i ordered rice noodle soup with mixed vegetables and vegetarian egg rolls - both for pick up / to go. the service was excellent. my food was ready when i arrived and the man who helped me was really friendly and jumped right up when i walked in. but once i got home and assembled my soup, it just didn't have the flavor of other soups i've had (tycoon in east memphis on kirby is the bomb). and it had a weird taste to it. and while the egg rolls were somewhat tasty, i'm not entirely sure they were vegetarian. i may try it again - i have friends who speak highly of this place, but in retrospect am kicking myself for not ordering from crazy noodle or pho binh - both places that i've eaten at before and really enjoyed. read more

I went there over the weekend with my wife, I have been craving pho since I moved from LA, so we started with the appetizer that was a spring shrimp roll, they presented it to us with a special sauce with peanut on top, we did not like it as it was tasteless pretty much, after that I ordered the Large beef brisket pho and my wife ordered the thick rice udon noodle with shrimp , quite honestly the portions were huge, the noodle and the soup are delicious, but my beef was not so good, but my wife loved her shrimp, the people are very generous, and it looks like one family runs the place. Come to this place often with my girlfriend. We used to love this place but after tonight I am really questioning whether we will come back. The food which is usually wonderful was just okay and the service tonight was awful. Only one woman was working the floor while three others stood around and watched her. Worst pho I've ever had in my life. The broth was bland and tasteless, they were out of basil and the beef was sliced too thick. My boyfriend is Vietnamese and we eat pho at least twice a week (so we know good pho, this was not it). We were passing through Memphis on our way home from Florida and were craving pho, needless to say, we left incredibly disappointed. The spring rolls were awful as well. Full of noodles and shredded iceberg lettuce with 2 thinly sliced shrimp. Egg rolls were over fried to the point where it the shell was completely falling apart. Saigon Pho is the furthest thing from authentic Viet food, definitely caters more towards the American palate if you catch my drift. read more

I went here with a few of my friends, and we love cheap Vietnamese food, which is what this place offered; however, the service was absolute trash. The best service probably came from the 8 year old daughter, who brought us our drinks. Now while I don't mind family members helping out a family business this little girl seemed to do most of the work while the older generations played on their iPads at the table next to us. Also, me and my four friends were the only people at the restaurant other than the table next to us with two other people. I asked for simple things along with my meal like lime for my drink, cilantro and bean sprouts for my fried egg roll. The waitress instead didn't listen to me when I asked for her to bring those things out when I wanted them and waited to bring just the cilantro and lime our with my final meal. I ordered fried egg rolls and the beef vermicelli bowl. The fried egg rolls were prepared well but I preferred to eat it with something fresh wrapped with it such as cilantro, lettuce and bean sprouts which they never brought out to me. The vermicelli bowl's beef was very dry, and the bowl needed something extra. My friend had also ordered a meal and it never came out. At some point I also went to go use the bathroom and the bathroom door was kept open by using cleaning supplies. Nice ambience. Lastly, my friends and I ordered to go boxes because the portions were large which I love, but the waitress never helped my friend pour her pho in the bowl. Therefore, she spilled a large amount on the floor. Thanks for the help. Before we had left tho I finally saw the older generation get up to clean after my friend and they looked angry, but if they helped us and served us better as waiters should then there wouldn't have been a mess. The pho had a good scent but the flavoring was a little bland, but still it was alright. The bubble tea was straight powder and wasn't as smooth as many others that I've had in the past. I love pho saigon. They have really good food that is reasonably priced. I have gone there for years. I love the curry chicken with the noodles. I chop the fried egg roll up and put on top. My husband loves the sea food soup. I accidently asked for a "Thai coffee" today and they reminded me they only have "vietnamese coffee" . It is very sweet and very strong. The sauces on the table are so good. Now I often read about how long it takes there and about the people that work there not being friendly. I disagree with those points of view. This is not a fast food restaurant and honestly I think their interactions with us customers is ok. It is not an AMERICAN cuisine place, it AUTHENTIC Vietnamese food, right down to the folks that take the order, cook the food and deliver the items to the table. I dont mind the wait, nor do I take it personally because they are not intentionally trying to he rude just "their authentic selves" living the american dream. They offer an extensive menu of Vietnamese dishes: noodle soups, rice plates, specialties, etc. I recently enjoyed their "rice pancake" with sausage: probably the best meal out I've had in weeks.
