We're lucky to have such a wonderful family run establishment. I haven't explored much of the menu however it's safe to say the place called Pho House has dank pho. It's a comforting embrace on your dehydration from partying the night before. It's the gentle kiss of the sunlight on the first spring day. It's the caress of the lover that got away. Today I needed food to hit my soul. I've had a lot going on and sometimes it's hard to find that special dish that will make your day. This bowl gave me hope and vitality. After the owner of the former Vietnamese Restaurant retired, she started helping out here, and the pho tastes very similar to what they used to serve. The broth has a slightly sweet flavor that I personally really enjoy. Their salted lemonade is really fresh and refreshing, it's a must-order every time I visit! My only complaint is the portion size. The bowls are a bit small. As a female, I need to order a large to feel full. Most males may probably want to order an appetizer or another dish on the side. Service is pretty much the same as it was at the old Vietnamese Restaurant, minimal and not particularly attentive. Overall, the food keeps me coming back, especially the pho and salted lemonade. As for now: the absolutely best phò in midtown Memphis! Well, I have not tried one of the $100 small craft bowls at BT, but this phò hits all of the marks. The service is quick, the food is very good, and the ambiance is terrible! Can't have it all; Best 2 out of 3 - not bad. This place is more of a Vietnamese place for Vietnamese. Quality over beauty. You won't see rows of paper lanterns, or murals of Vietnamese coast. No lacquered carvings or Christmas lighting. In fact, the neighborhood is just so-so. We were very surprised by the quality of food at Pho House. Very authentic and broth for Bun Bo Hue was excellent. Pho broth was little light but very fragrant and tasty. Where do I begin if I ever go to any restaurant that serves can drinks I will not eat there this was my first time here I mean .... service was very slow seems that the waiter forgot about us food took a very long time we was the only black people there every time i ask for something they didnt have it like how we was about to leave they seem kinda racist to us like he didnt wanna serve us but when he sat down all other races he was more than eagerly to serve them we felt left out but thats ok i wont spend my money here ambience. Stopped by on a Friday at 8pm and there was 1 group and 1 takeaway order before us. Prices range from $7-9 for sandwiches and appetizers to $14-22 for entrees and special items. This seems to be the average for downtown. Note that this area is a little run-down and the parking lot has a tall fence. You won't want to hang around after 9pm, when the restaurant closes. The inside is simply decorated with the typical padded synthetic chairs you see at many pho restaurants including the sauces, chopsticks, and spoons on the table. You first receive a plate of greens and items to add into your soup. Afterwards, the piping hot bowls of noodles arrive. The broth has a very light flavor -- in this case, either beef or a seafood flavor depending on your order. They also add some crispy onions for extra flavor. I loved the addition of chives in my soup. If you want extreme umami or shocking flavors, you'd have to add generously with the sauces on the table. Personally, I did enjoy the light broth and pig trotter even though I was expecting a deeper flavor and a large piece of pork. The shrimp and squid definitely provided a seafood flavor to the soo Overall, the food is good and filling. The price is a bit high, but on par with other restaurants. What a find. Tasty, authentic Vietnamese food in Memphis? Yeah, that's a thing, now. We had delivery from here because we saw they had Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup) on the menu, one of our favorite soups of all time. Along with the soup we ordered all the traditional things- grilled pork chop w/ rice, a vermicelli noodle dish, and even a banh mi for good measure. Service was terrible. The waiter did not come to our table for 20 minutes. After asking if we can order several times, he showed up and took only one order. He left without asking anyone else for their orders and sat down in the front??!? Decided to leave after waiting a total of 30 minutes without any assistance. Apparently another worker was confused on why our orders weren't already taken.... Terrible communication and terrible service overall. 1/10 do not recommend coming if I can't even get my order. Being from San Diego I've been on the hunt for a legit pho spot. I've tried all the hyped up spots around Memphis and they all disappointed. I ordered the pho Thai nam. Clean fatty broth. This place is so good and the staff is very friendly. I get greeted kindly every time I come, the foods never disappoint, and the place is very clean. When they first open, like any business, it was a little overwhelming. I must admit that the wait time was extensively long on my first visit. My new go to spot for pho! This is one of the better pho broths in Memphis in my opinion. Clean tasting but not bland if that makes sense. You can tell they put a lot of work into skimming the broth for impurities. I also love their bun bo hue. It's packed with flavor and lots of meat. You can make it spicier by adding the chili oil provided on the table. We always get the little old lady as our server. She's so sweet but doesn't speak a lot of English. She honestly reminds me of my own grandma. On my first visit I tried to ask for beef on the side (I like my beef rare). I could tell she was having a hard time understanding so I said it was okay and closed the menu with a smile because I totally get where she's coming from. She opened the menu back up was determined to get it right. So I pointed to the Vietnamese word for beef (tai) and pretty much "charaded" the entire moment.
