Just had a very tasty dinner at Pho Saigon and my husband and I loved it! I had the lemongrass chicken with vermicelli. They made it spicy for me and all the extra sauces on the table let you personalize your dish. My husband had Pho and it had a rich but slightly sweet broth and not very salty. Pho Saigon is nestled in a tiny strip. Blink and you'll miss it. Sorely missing in Macon are good Asian joints, so a Vietnamese place like this is a welcome addition. The inside decor was very Vietnamese, clean and quite bright. We were seated promptly and had a big bowl of Pho Ga and a pork and chicken Banh Mi (which, if you want, add a fried egg and oh boy you won't regret it). It was good, not amazing but not terrible either. If you want to scratch your pho itch, this is the best place within 50 miles for proper Vietnamese food. read more

I just moved to this area from NorCal and was in search for some good Vietnamese food. There aren't many options in Macon compared to where I'm from. This restaurant was located in an empty plaza that is very outdated. Despite its looks, the food and service was actually good! I am glad that I've found some good Vietnamese food because I know I'll be homesick soon and miss my parents' authentic Vietnamese cooking! This will definitely help with my cravings. This is my favorite Vietnamese place. I went here throughout college and ever since I moved away, I find myself craving the lemongrass chicken and delicious pork spring rolls. The service was always great and food was excellent every time. My stomach usually hurts after I eat out, but not at pho saigon, meaning the ingredients are fresh and wholesome. I ordered a large Pho and an icewater, and I walked outta here spending less than $10 with a bellyfull of ARVN-goodness. This place has successfully won my heart and mind, so put away your zippos and let this Ville stand. The owners are very attentive and do everything there is to do here together, from cooking to waiting to bussing. The broth was complexly flavorful, and the ingredients were perfectly done. While I honestly prefer a little spot up at exit 233 (Vn Pho, Morrow), this stuff here in Macon is jam-up. I'll write this tidbit here, as well as in that review: if you put the chili oil in your soup, be aware that it WILL splatter and it WILL stain. I keep a "pho shirt" in my car just for wearing when I have pho. I believe that shirt will be getting lots of local use in the near future. The only thing that'd make this place better for me would be to blast Jefferson Airplane, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and maybe some Hendrix. Pho is okay for being in the middle of Georgia. The place is old and grunge and the workers spoke very little english. The prices are bit high compare to California prices and the pho lacks the spices of Pho with the beef of very poor quality and taste. Delicious delicious delicious. For South Georgia this is an amazing find. Even if in a big city this place would still stand out. Top five things to point out: 1. Authentic Vietnamese food. This place is family owned and run, which makes it all the more appealing to me. 2. Very reasonably priced. The spring rolls I posted a pic of were only $3. In the city these go for $5-6 easy. 3. Your plates come with a very healthy serving of noodles, meat and veggies. Good luck finishing it all. 4. Service was quick. Need I say more? Actually I do because this is after all a top five list. 5. House fish sauce is on each table. Some places don't make the house fish sauce, and if they do they don't offer it with each meal. The location may not look perfect. Aging decor and small restrooms, but really, does it matter? At this point in my excellent dining experience as long as the restrooms are functioning properly I'm fine. I also love that the owners obviously run the place on their own and as a family. In the back there was a kids bike. And you could see that one of the kiddos wrote on the wall with a permanent marker, yikes. But that's character. That shows me its a family business. I try and stick to these kind. Way better than a chain restaurant. So if you live in Macon or just passing through, don't settle on something like Applebee's or Steak and Shakes or whatever that place is, do yourself a favor and go to this place. I went on a road trip on weekend with a college girl friend. We went to visit her sister in Macon with our daughters. When arriving in Macon, she wanted to eat Vietnamese so I Yelp and found Pho Saigon. My friend's nephews never had Vietnamese so they were excited to try. One of my childhood friend told me that Pho Saigon has the best pho broth she's ever had so I was excited to try their food (I don't eat pho). For appetizers, got spring (summer) rolls & calamari. The presentation for the spring rolls was great! The calamari had great flavors and can tell it was fresh and just made. I got the grill chicken bun. It was really good. I had so much food and couldn't finish all the chicken. Daughter got the bbq pork banh mi. I am glad that my friend's nephews loved their dishes. They got pho and really enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and attentive. They never rushed us. When we were ready to go, we went to cashier to pay. Definitely coming back when in Macon. read more

My favorite meal begins with Goi Coun, Vietnamese style spring rolls with cold vermicelli, shrimp, salad and bean sprouts. Pho Chien Bo Vien, a steaming large bowl of pho noodles with well done brisket and meat balls is the main course. A plate of garnishes arrives with each noodle bowl. For dessert, a boba drink or cola or Vietnamese ice coffee. I have visited three times. I gave the restaurant four stars because the waiter has been distracted and forgetful with menu items. We were in the area and had heard good things about this place so figured we'd try it. We had pho somewhere else so we had something to compare it to. We got a large bowl and shared it between the two of us. It was decent but we both felt the Pho we had at the other restaurant was better. This place is close to perfect. The only issue I had was the slow service but other then that its great. I ordered a banh mi ( the first / original one ) and it was amazing. It was full of meat and veggies on a baguette. I love the amount of liver pate they added on the sandwich. Just the right amount so you can taste it but not to the point where it's the only thing you can taste. My friend ordered the fried calamari appetizer which was crispy, delicious and not over cooked. It came with a dipping sauce which was sweet and spicy. I also ordered pho with the assortment of meat and the broth was rich and flavorful. My issue here is that I was trying to get a small dish for my sauces for my meat ( hoisin and sriracha ) since I don't like it in my soup but our server was no where to be found. I continued eating my food until I was finished, couldn't find him at all on the floor. I ended up just putting the sauces on a soup spoon. I didn't get boba myself but I did try some of my boyfriend's Thai spiced tea and it was perfect. My friend also loved his pineapple sunrise boba also. I stop by here every time I visit Macon. Not sure where all these two and three star reviews are coming from... Since this is Macon, GA please don't come here straight from Vietnam and expect exact replication of your mommas Pho. This family owned restaurant needed to manipulate the Vietnamese cuisine to mesh with Macon society... Does it work? Yes! Is their food amazing? YES! The dishes here are all made fresh to order. It's too hot to have pho in the summer so order the claypot or rice. DO NOT ORDER THE PHO TO-GO, YOU ARE DUMB IF YOU DO. If you want to order something for carry out I'd suggest fried rice, claypot, or the crispy noodle dish. My dish suggestions are as follows (favorites on top): App: #1 Fried egg roll, DELISH (Mix the sweet dipping sauce with sriracha) Entree: #36 Wonton Noodles Soup - Most Amazing wontons you'll ever have - sub egg noodles for rice noodles #65 or #66 - Seafood or Special (Combination) Claypot - If you are in the mood for rice, protein, and a healthy portion of veggies then this is your obvious choice. This dish comes out piping hot in a claypot. I love the crispy rice on the bottom of the pot, mmmmmmmmmmm #52 or #53 - Seafood or Combination Fried Rice - Best fried rice you will ever have. They put some sort of addictive seasoning in there ;) #24 Bun Bo Hue - Lots of meat, very spicy, and will get your sinuses running. great for hangovers and winter time. #40 Mi Xao Gion Thap Cam - chicken, beef, and seafood served over a bed crispy noodles and secret sauce. The bubble tea is good if that's your thing. I also recommend their Iced Coffee and Lemonade (ask them to go light on the ice if you order either of these two). My review is for those looking for vegan options. I have sampled a few different vegan Pho places in SoCal but had not seen anything that served a vegan pho in the southeast... so I made a point to stop by here when driving through Macon. Now... the thing is.. I really do not know how they make the pho broth... there is a language issue so I did not ask. But I do not think it is vegan at all. If someone has different information, let me know and I will amend this review. But it seemed to me like they use the same beef broth for the "vegetarian" pho and just toss in veggies and tofu instead of the meat. So that is a little disappointing. The place is fine. Typical slightly rundown strip mall place. Seemed clean enough. The chopsticks thing where they reuse them is a little odd, but no biggie. Service was fine except for getting the check to leave. I ended up having to go up and ask for the bill at the register. The other thing was communication about the order was a little difficult. I tried using the numbers on the menu and the server still pointed at pictures (and not the right ones). My kids had the chicken pho and they liked it a lot. If I was rating this only on the quality of the pho, I would go to 4 stars. Certainly all in all a better option than the crappy chains all around Macon. read more

I lived in Tacoma, WA where pho is found around every corner in every strip mall. As many others have been I was extremely surprised to find that Macon, GA had pho. This was one of my first eats upon moving to town. As in most pho restaurants Pho Saigon is located in a strip mall. However, this strip mall appears to be on it's last leg. The exterior of the restaurant itself looks like it could have previous been named "Granny's Old Time Country House of Pancakes." The interior could benefit from that kind of decoration. This restaurant helps me to realize what a precarious market Asian restaurant decorations must be. But whoever created the semi-3D wall art of the Asian mountain town that is in every Asian eatery must be a bazillionaire. I took my non-adventurous friend to lunch at Pho Saigon. I immediately recommended the chicken fried rice. He agreed. I order pho and Inari tofu along with egg rolls. The tofu and eggs rolls were outstanding. I thought slightly above average. The pho was a bit bland, but did have enough spicy jalapeños to make up the difference. It's easy to gut check myself on rating this restaurant 4 stars. I ask if it's just me being uppity about enjoying pho. After all the pho was average at best. After taking into consideration where this restaurant is located I think it does deserve an extra star due to it's ability to offer something different to Macon. And, hey, even if 90% of the people who go here never try the pho my friend said the chicken fried rice was excellent. read more

Hidden gem. Pho Saigon was a last-minute meal on a road trip through the southeast. After a quick search, we found this place located on a strip mall in Macon (what good mom-and-pop Asian restaurant isn't in a strip mall?). Overall, it was a somewhat run-down strip mall and there was no one in the restaurant when we were there (mid-week 4pm) but all the reviews were excellent. As an asian, I have been somewhat skeptical on asian restaurants in the south but we were both pleasantly surprised. As a vegetarian, I ordered their vegetarian pho. There are a number of vegetarian options on their menu in a vegetarian section (the only other one I remember was a lemongrass tofu noodle bowl but there were 4 or 5 other choices). The vegetarian pho was excellent. The broth was nice and clear, incredibly good flavor and had that great umami flavor. I'm almost certain there was MSG in the broth but it wasn't overpowering or unpleasant. All the vegetables were very fresh and the soft tofu was also very fresh. This was definitely one of the best veggie pho's I've had and I've had some great ones in Seattle's Little Saigon. My girlfriend had a meaty pho (I don't remember which) but she loved it. Service: The service was slow but pleasant. I think this was an off-time and so service was slow. Restaurant: The tables were clean and each table had the standard utensils (chopsticks, soup spoons) and condiments. The booths and rest of the restaurant are definitely dated but this might be what you expect at a mom-and-pop restaurant. Overall, great food. I will maybe make an effort to stop by even if it's out of the way. read more

WTF! That was awful. It looked like we were served leftover scraps, and it felt like we were at a Vietnamese Denny's. There were hardly any vegetables in the dish, just some cabbage and pieces of boc choy, and the meat they used were tiny pieces and not a lot of them. Safe yourself a stomach ache and go somewhere else. Oh also, the bubbles in the bubble tea were all wrong and it was just like having a milkshake. Gross. read more

I kicked around Asia for a couple of months in 2009, and the fact that I didn't get to Vietnam on that trip always made me really sad. My Vietnamese friends have consoled me by pointing out that the Pho here is about as authentic as you'll find anywhere in the Southeastern US. I love their Pho. Simple broth, great flavour, comes with plenty of veggies and the meat is typically prepared perfectly. A friend always gets their seafood noodle soup dish, and loves it as well. I'll occasionally mix it up and get one of their vermicelli bowls, which are always tasty once you've added the right amount of Hoisin sauce. They also have outstanding spring rolls. Their traditional shrimp spring roll is spot on, and their BBQ Pork spring roll is phenomenal--don't miss it. Their sauces on the table are perfect, and bring plenty of heat to the meal. All in all, a great place with great food at wonderfully cheap prices. read more

Very limited selection as far as the menu is concerned, and don't expect much inside the spring rolls or eggrolls. I ordered a clay pot entree and was told that there would be "golden rice" in the bottom of the pot. The only thing in the bottom of the pot was a liquid. No way there was going to be any "golden rice"! Very disappointing and unprofessional. You can get much better food in any of the Vietnamese restaurants on Buford Highway! And you have to chase after them to pay your bill which is only presented as a digital total on a four-function calculator! Sorry but overall, it was not a good experience. read more

Listen, you really gotta know what to get here. They have quite an extensive menu with a whole bunch of stuff that looks and sounds awesome, and it usually is! BUT they are not as prepared for the extravagant menu items as much they are prepared to serve a delicious bowl of pho. I ALWAYS order the #10 with extra onion, cilantro, and meat. The round eye in the soup is amazing. Also- the BBQ Pork Springrolls are so much better. Always tasty. And the fried rice, strangely enough, is probably the best tasting fried rice I've ever had. The clay pots are really good as well as some of the vermicelli bowls in the menu. The key is to keep it simple here. The service is not all that great, but it is owned by one family- husband and wife, with two young daughters. They do the best they can and I only speak this way about them because I have been going since they were located in a small shopping center in a not-so-good neighborhood and their daughters were babies.
